Home. So much contained in that little four letter word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.
Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.”
As we thought about home, we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers — specifically your physical homes, where you gather around the dinner table with loved ones and snuggle up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn for a family movie night.
As such, these pages are filled with local businesses that aim to help you make your home the best it can possibly be — from remodeling to HVAC services that help ensure you and your family love where you live.
Every month, we hear from readers who say that they keep this magazine for longer than the month labeled on the cover. They say that they hold onto it for months as coffee table art or an accessory in their home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.
Until next month,

Dan and Mary Shetler, a husband and wife team, are owners of Parkview Shades, located in the heart of Amish Country. It all began with the opportunity to purchase a small shade business that was retiring. Upon moving the business to their current location in Millersburg and renaming it, they decided to start doing outdoor shades as well.
What sets Parkview apart is not just the handcrafted range of blinds and shades that they offer, but the personalized touch of local expertise. The entire Parkview team understands the importance of precise measurements and professional installation, ensuring that each customer receives a tailored solution for their unique needs.
As spring and summer approach, the allure of outdoor living spaces becomes irresistible. As such, Parkview often sees an increase in requests to incorporate shades around outdoor kitchens, of which have become focal points for social gatherings, family meals and entertaining guests.
The addition of shades to al fresco spaces serves a dual purpose — providing shelter from the sun's intensity while enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the space. As a result, these shades, crafted for outdoor durability, become an integral part of the living experience, creating a cozy and stylish
ambiance. What makes these "locally made right here in Ohio” outdoor shades even more appealing is that they functional practically year-round.
When working with Parkview, the process of selecting your dream shade or blind for indoor or outdoor use is not just easy, it's a personalized journey tailored to your unique preferences. Nestled in the charming town of Mt. Hope, where craftsmanship thrives, the majority of Parkview’s blinds and shades are meticulously handcrafted locally. Dan firmly believes that local production translates to superior quality.
"Handcrafted and local is better quality," he emphasizes, reflecting the commitment to excellence that defines Parkview Shades. Choosing the perfect materials, colors and sizes for your window coverings is a seamless experience guided by a team passionate about delivering satisfaction.
There is also a level of unmatched precision that goes into the creation of every shade. Dan says, "Parkview uses a high-frequency welder to ensure that the seams on their shades are stronger than if they would have been sewn on. Similarly, they use crush cutting technology to keep the edges from fraying. This dedication to detail, along with the utilization of top-notch machinery and components,

Another standout is Parkview Shade's motorized option for indoor and outdoor shades. With just a touch of a button, you can operate shades in windows that are hard to reach. You can also set up all the shades in one room to be part of "a group" that will all raise and lower via your remote or phone. Motorized shades help to transform your space by making it simple to adjust light and privacy levels, adding comfort and style to your home.

In expanding into residential HVAC and plumbing installation and service, Medinabased Steingass Mechanical Contracting (Steingass) is returning to its roots. Founded as a residential plumbing company in a barn on Bill Steingass’ farm in 1970, the company recently grew into one of the largest commercial plumbing and HVAC contractors in Northeast Ohio through its acquisition of the Mentor-based Burrier Service Company.
Burrier, which had focused largely on supporting customers in Lake and Geauga counties, is now able to provide client service — air conditioner and furnace repair as well as preventive maintenance for systems of any manufacturer — across the Steingass footprint, as far west as Toledo, south to Ashland and east to Youngstown. Additionally, Steingass is now a dealer for Trane heating and air systems, a partnership that dates back to Burrier’s founding in the 1960s.
Even with the acquisition and expanded service offerings, Steingass still provides plumbing services, including backflow testing, water heater and boiler installations, pipe and fixture repair and jetting for homes and businesses. Earlier this year, the company became authorized to install and service Generac backup power generating systems. Additionally, Steingass conducts ad hoc repairs when customers call and preventive maintenance contracts for HVAC, plumbing, sprinkler and backup generators.
The Steingass service team are Medina natives who are passionate about customer satisfaction and retention. Steingass service manager Tom Wolke says, "We pride ourselves on taking care of customers. We don’t believe in gimmicks." Tom has always lived in Medina, except for the seven years that he served as an Army Ranger. His polite, but matter-of-fact style characterizes the team’s modus operandi.
The Steingass/Burrier partnership is a good fit since both are family-owned businesses that reflect value and pride in their respective family names. The staying power of both businesses attests to this. Both companies are still staffed with managers from the legacy families. With 25 certified field technicians and installers, the team is experienced, knowledgeable and ready to assist you when your home or business requires it. Visit SteingassMechanical.com and BurrierService.com for more details.
DISCOVER THE BEAUTY AND DURABILITY OF WOODFORGE CUSTOM CABINETRY
Cabinets, the unsung heroes of the home. People use them to “hide” everything, to showcase kids’ artwork and display seasonal decorations. Cabinets are the focal point of the kitchen and connect your home into a cohesive design.
Look around. Where do wish for new cabinetry? Consider the options of using space efficiently — and with style! Let WoodForge Cabinetry make your vision a reality.
WoodForge Cabinetry brings together experience and modernization. Owner Aden Yoder has been woodworking for 24 years and sons Elijah and Kyle are also skilled craftsmen. Using 3D rendering, WoodForge and homeowners can enjoy designing cabinets, or a full kitchen remodel, to match every taste. Once designed, each cabinet is handcrafted using top end materials.
The heart of cabinet quality is the material. WoodForge takes pride in creating cabinets using the highest quality, locally sourced, hardwood. The natural wood lends to the cabinet’s stability, durability and longevity. Customers can choose from a diverse selection of materials. High quality paints provide endless color options. The look right now: natural white oak.
A functional kitchen makes life easier. A solid design should make good use of combining cabinet space with countertops and appliances. With custom cabinets, you can alter the height of the shelves to optimize storage. For example, you could incorporate tall cabinetry for larger kitchen equipment or adjust the width on smaller shelves to your needs, such as a spice rack, customized silverware drawer or a pet treat carousel. Custom cabinetry can also be modified for those with disabilities.
Not quite ready for a full kitchen remodel?
Revitalize the look of your kitchen with a cabinet reface. Give your kitchen a facelift by simply replacing worn out cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Also, consider a new countertop for a new and rejuvenated look.
Don’t limit yourself to the kitchen. Look for gaps which can be used for storage. Let WoodForge build cabinets specifically for your space within or along the wall, even around existing features such as a fireplace and mantle.
WoodForge custom cabinets encompass superior quality due to intricate and skilled craftsmanship coupled with excellent materials, hardware and finishes. Customer satisfaction is at the forefront of their business. Each cabinet comes with a lifetime warranty. Custom cabinets are a one-time investment adding a unique complement to your home’s theme while increasing the value. Cabinets by WoodForge are built for life. Make the investment in your home by calling WoodForge at 330-473-5797.
When I learned about a European hot tub manufacturer, Wellis, who had taken over the lion’s share of that market and was breaking into the North American market, I had to find out more. You see, for the past 57 years, my family has brought quality products to families in Northeast Ohio — you know of us as The Place. Our two major product lines are hot tubs and fireplaces. With a motto of “We make it easy, are the experts, and carry the best brands” I had to find out what was so special about this manufacturer.
My brother, Ray, who had worked at The Place before moving to Las Vegas 20 years ago to open Hot Tub Liquidators, had already purchased several truckloads and his clients loved them. However, I am still firmly rooted in Ohio conservatism and needed more research before taking the leap. I wanted to make sure that the manufacturer and their hot tubs met or exceeded our quality and support standards. After all, I see myself as a personal buyer for our clients. They come to The Place for high-quality products and services that aren't found in big box stores or online. I don’t take that responsibility lightly.
After doing all the research I could from here, I packed up and headed to Budapest, Hungary to check out Wellis. I have been to many hot tub factories in the United States and Canada, but I quickly saw that this factory operates at the Super Bowl level compared to many others that are in high school leagues.
The all new, state-of-the-art robotic factory was cranking out high-quality products with amazing precision, organization and speed. December is a slow month in this industry, but they were still building 75 hot tubs a day with the capacity to ramp up to 300. What's more, is that their team of engineers was creating exciting product innovation, adding value for the end user.

“Although cold, wet and wintery, I thoroughly enjoyed the Buda, west of the Danube River, and Pest, on the east.”
For example, hot tub water diverters have been the same design for 30 years — sometimes having issues like being loud and hard to turn. The newly designed Wellis diverter is electronic, silent and operates with the touch of a button. So many positives and the efficiency of scale results in these tubs being sold for less than comparable brands currently in the US. The deal was closed and I purchased several models to add to The Place's “Master Menu of Premium Spas for every budget."
While I was in Budapest, I stuck around and explored for a couple days. Although cold, wet and wintery, I thoroughly enjoyed Buda, west of the Danube River, and Pest, on the east. The architecture is superb — one castle looked like home to a Disney princess! I found a restaurant named after my patron saint and even ran into Ronald Reagan walking across Liberty Square. (Fun trivia to Google if you don’t know why he is there!)
Although worth a trip just to see Budapest, you can now buy the No. 1 European hot tub right here in Medina at The Place. We're located at 2377 Medina Rd., on Route 18 between Beach and Bonita. Learn more about us at YourPlace4.com or call 330.239.4000.
