Happy New Year!

Emily Shea-Owen | emily.shea@citylifestyle.com
For many of us, this time of year is full of excitement. It presents us with a reset, new horizons and goals to pursue. That's why we approached this issue of Medina County Lifestyle from a mindset of not supplying quick fixes to check boxes in the short term but valuing what is sustainable over the long haul. After all, when it comes to anything in life — business, finance, food, home and personal health — it’s not what you do some days that moves the needle — it’s what you do MOST days. Inside these pages, you'll find articles about hormone balance, skin cancer screenings, smoothie bowls and so much more. To bring you the best content, we've partnered with local businesses like Recrea Health & Wellness and Trillium Creek Dermatology — be sure to look for their names as you flip through the issue. As always, thank you to our readers, marketing partners and members of the community for supporting Medina County Lifestyle year after year. It's an honor to create content you love to read every month. Happy New Year,

Hormone Balance Matters
ARTICLE BY ERIN BAKA

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
Welcome to 2024, where hormones matter. And not only for women. Today, we're talking directly to the men. Do you experience extreme fatigue, mood swings, anxiety, sleep disturbances and difficulty focusing? Have you ever dealt with brain fog, night sweats, weight gain or joint pain? Your hormones could be the culprit! According to Angela Jayes, a nurse practitioner and owner of Recrea Health & Wellness, it could be a testosterone deficiency.
“It’s a new year and it’s time to recreate your health,” Angela says. In addition to BHRT, Recrea offers multiple options to take your body and mind to a new level. Don’t wait to recreate the new you this year. Call 330-9520391 or text 330-212-4884 for a free consultation. Learn more at RecreaHealth.com. As you go through the aging process, your body naturally reduces the production of crucial hormones such as estrogen and testosterone, essential for optimal functioning. The good news is, Recrea Health & Wellness can help. Their service, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT), is a technique designed to restore your body's hormones to a balanced level by incorporating compounds identical to those naturally present in your body. Results can include enhanced muscle mass, decreased body fat, mitigated fatigue and diminished mood swings.

Skin cancer screenings are vital for your skin’s health. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, so skin cancer screenings can reveal much about your overall health. Dermatologists and their physician assistants are trained to catch the early signs and symptoms of skin cancer; pre-cancers, basal cell cancers, squamous cell cancers, and malignant melanoma. A good way to ensure early detection is with an annual full-body skin cancer screening examination performed by our physician assistants at Trillium Creek Dermatology. We realize that some patients may have initial concerns that a skin exam may be embarrassing; however, our professional medical care staff will put you at ease. We have both male and female providers so you can choose the person you feel most comfortable with to perform your examination.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR SCREENING
During your skin cancer screening exam, you will undress to your comfort level and put on a gown, and a Trillium Creek Dermatology skin healthcare expert will check every part of your body for skin cancers — from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Your provider will be looking for discolored areas, bumps, unusually shaped freckles, unusual moles, and suspicious spots with irregular borders. Most skin cancers, if caught early, are 100% curable. If an area or bump looks suspicious,
it will be biopsied through a simple procedure of numbing it and then shaving off a portion to send to a laboratory. Patients with a biopsy of proven skin cancers on the head and neck are referred to our Mohs Surgeon, Dr. Bryan Baillis, at the Mohs Skin Cancer Center at Trillium Creek Dermatology. The entire skin cancer screening procedure takes only 15 minutes — and those 15 minutes may save your life.
COMPASSION WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST
At Trillium Creek Dermatology, we understand that a skin cancer diagnosis can be life-changing. That is why we take a caring, compassionate approach to skin cancer screenings, treatment, and Mohs surgery. When you come to our state-of-the-art facilities, we’ll take the time to answer your questions and address any concerns you might have. Our dedicated staff will be at your service before, during, and after your treatment. During January and February, we are offering a Preventative Skin Cancer Screening with no copay or out-of-pocket expense. Insurance required. Visit one of Trillium Creek Dermatology’s four locations in Brunswick, Medina, Wadsworth and Wooster. Coming in July 2024 — our fifth location in Strongsville. To book your appointment with one of our providers, visit us online at TCOhio.com or call 330.725.0569 and start your journey to healthy skin!

It ’s a l l a b out b a l a n c e , r i g ht ? ” Prioritizing your health and wellness doesn't mean you shouldn't occasionally indulge. It's all about balance, right? That's why we're excited to feature The Aviator Event Center & Pub that's located in Cleveland. In past issues, we've told you about The Aviator's pristine event and dining spaces, so in this issue, we're diving into their expertly crafted menu that recently received a facelift. The updated menu includes classics that you've come to know and love from The Aviator over the past year, as well as exciting new additions. Executive Chef Jon Standen and The Aviator's leadership team worked hand-in-hand to craft the new menu, utilizing customer feedback to revamp flavor profiles and emphasize local products that will leave a lasting impression on your tastebuds. Instead of telling you more about the menu, we're going to let it speak for itself. Check out our section-by-section rundown featuring some of the dishes that we love.
SHAREABLES
Just like the name suggests, these meals are for sharing. Or not. Be a little greedy and order one for yourself. We won't judge. • Coconut Cauliflower: Who says vegetables are boring? This dish certainly isn't. The cauliflower is dipped in coconut curry, breaded, fried to perfection and served with a side of sweet Thai chili sauce. • Honey Maple Brussels Sprouts: Again, who says vegetables are boring? This dish combines Brussels sprouts with hot honey-infused black garlic, maple syrup, dried cherries, toasted almonds and apple slices.
HANDHELDS AND SMASHBURGERS
We hope you brought your appetite (and then some). Each of these sandwiches and burgers are packed with flavor and a side of waffle fries.
• Gladiator Smash Burger: We don't think you're ready for the deliciousness that is this burger. It features two Angus beef patties, spicy capicola, fried mozzarella sticks, chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion and banana peppers. • Chipotle Chicken Melt: This grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, peppadew peppers, whipped avocado, smoked gouda and chipotle aioli on sourdough bread is a must-try.
HOUSE SPECIALTIES
As the name of the section suggests, these are a handful of dishes that are unique to The Aviator. Below are two that you should order any time you visit for dinner service. • Scallop Risotto: It's not a trip to The Aviator without trying this dish featuring pan-seared scallops, mushroom risotto and citrus beurre blanc. • Braised Beef Short Rib: This customer and staff favorite is The Aviator's No. 1 best-selling entrée. It incorporates barbacoa braised short rib, cilantro lime rice and Mexican street corn salad.
DRINKS AND DESSERTS
No meal is complete without your favorite beverage and a little something sweet. • Layered Chocolate Mousse Cake: Finish your feast with this decadent dessert that's topped with fresh berries, strawberry sauce and shaved chocolate. • Paper Plane: While it's hard to choose a favorite signature cocktail on The Aviator's menu, this one has proven to be a crowd pleaser time and time again. It combines Four Roses bourbon, Mommenpop blood orange liqueur, Nonino amaro and lemon. We have to admit, the new and improved menu brings a whole new meaning to "chef's kiss." View the full menu and make a reservation at AviatorPubCleveland.com. Plus, follow The Aviator on Instagram Instagram.com/AviatorCle to stay up to date about future events and happenings. CONTINUED >

aintaining a wellness routine while traveling isn’t easy. But traveling somewhere that’s extremely walkable and bike-friendly is an easy way to ensure you stay active during a trip without having to make the extra effort. Aside from the obvious reasons — it’s a chock-full of attractions, home to award-winning restaurants and is featured on TIMES’ “World’s Greatest Places 2023” list — Vancouver is our pick for its high walkability and bikeability scores. What does this mean? The city’s high scores in these two areas mean that it’s easy to explore on foot or via bike. On scale from 0-100, Vancouver received a score of 81
for walkability, making it “very walkable.” Similarly, the city scored 99 for bikeability, classifying it as a “biker’s paradise.” While the city’s bike friendliness and walkability fosters a healthy vacation, it also means the city is easy to explore. I recently had the chance to visit this buzzing city, and here’s everything I recommend so you can make the most out of your urban adventure.
DO
The city of Vancouver is home to countless activities — both leisurely and adventuresome. Although it’s been coined by some as “The City of Glass” for its sleek and modern architecture, Vancouver is also a hotspot for nature-lovers, as it boasts close proximity to rainforests, beaches and mountains.
If exploration of the area’s biodiversity is on your list (if it’s not, it should be), Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is a must. The park — located 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver — combines nature, history and culture for an experience among the treetops. The scenery is utterly breathtaking and this experience was easily one of my favorites. Stanley Park, the city’s 1,000-acre natural reserve, is also must-visit. It’s home to more than 16 miles of trails, multiple beaches, playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic areas and a paved walking and biking path called the Seawall. Also, the Vancouver Aquarium is located at Stanley Park. If you head there for a visit, don’t miss the jellyfish and the Stellar’s Bay exhibits. CONTINUED >

Granville Island Public Market
A salad from Italian Kitchen
The Gastown Clock
One of the city’s most popular destinations, Granville Island, is the perfect place to explore some of the city’s artisan vendors and small businesses. While you’re there, walk amongst locals and visitors alike at the Public Market and stroll through the Artisan District, all while taking in beautiful city views. Finally, no trip to Vancouver is complete without walking around some of the city’s trendy neighborhoods. Be sure to visit Yaletown, West End and, my personal favorite, Gastown — home to the famous Gastown Steam Clock, charming cobblestone streets and chic boutiques.

EAT
Vancouver is home to some of the best culinary opportunities in the world — including multiple restaurants with Michelin stars like Kissa Tanto and Masayoshi. But what’s great about the city’s culinary scene, is that you don’t necessarily need to go to a Michelinstarred restaurant for impeccable cuisine, service and ambiance. Glowbal Restaurant Group has multiple concepts around the city that boast a variety of delicious cuisines. We enjoyed visiting GLOWBAL, Coast and Black + Blue for dinner, and Italian Kitchen for lunch. Some of my favorite bites included the blackened king
salmon, scallops and mushroom risotto from GLOWBAL; the calamari, smoked salmon flatbread, and lobster and prawn carbonara from Coast; the jumbo shrimp cocktail and Japanese Kobe Beef tenderloin from Black + Blue; and the black squid ink seafood pasta, Caprese salad and tiramisu from Italian Kitchen. For dessert or a little midday pickme-up, you can’t miss Uno Gelato. The gelateria has several locations across the city that boast house-made flavors like Madagascar vanilla, salted caramel, roasted hazelnut, mango and passionfruit. What’s more, is that Uno Gelato
Granville Island Public Market
offers gelato making classes, where you can sample 10 different gelato flavors, make gelato with an expert and take home a pint of your creation.
STAY
There is no shortage of premier lodging options in this British Columbia city. But if you want to stay in the heart of it all, there are two hotels in particular that stand out: Loden Hotel and the Hilton Downtown Vancouver (formerly The Westin Grand). Loden Hotel is an award-winning boutique hotel that offers luxury services and amenities, 77 guest rooms and an
award-winning French restaurant. The Michelin-recommended hotel is centrally located in Vancouver’s Coal Harbor neighborhood and boasts five different types of modern guest rooms as well as a two-bedroom penthouse that comes complete with a kitchen, dining room and rooftop terrace with panoramic views. During my stay at Loden Hotel, I had the pleasure of lodging in a garden terrace room — an urban garden escape that featured a private patio on the hotel’s second floor nature sanctuary. My favorite services and amenities were Loden Hotel’s luxury pillow menu, chic fitness studio and complimentary bike cruisers.
I was also lucky enough to enjoy a stay at the Hilton Downtown Vancouver, a swanky hotel with modern accommodations and amenities. Located on the edge of the Yaletown neighborhood, the Hilton is walking distance to the Vancouver Art Gallery, Library Square and several bars and restaurants, including the afore mentioned Glowbal, Coast, Black + Blue and Italian Kitchen. Are you interested in learning more about Vancouver and its award-winning attractions? Visit DestinationVancouver.com for free travel itineraries, activity guides, and other resources.
