Memorial Day Parade Downtown Medina kicked off the season of summer with a bang this year. Hot weather and a patriotic crowd converged at Medina Square and welcomed those participating in the annual Memorial Day Parade, which ended at Spring Grove Cemetary to honor our local service men and women who served and died for their country. SANDRIDGE CELEBRATES NEW ADDITION On April 20 Sandridge Food Corporation celebrated the expansion of its Soup Kitchen. The 19,000-square-foot project added several pieces of new equipment and infrastructure that have helped expand its capabilities and capacity. Sandridge is headquartered in the City of Medina and the expansion is expected to bring new employment opportunities.
MEDINA COUNTY ARTS WEEK From July 9-13 the Medina County Arts Council will host the 2018 Arts Week Festival. The festival will have many kid-friendly activities, live music and art performances. People of all ages are invited out to enjoy this week of family fun!
LADIES NIGHT OUT Get out your poodle skirts and saddle shoes! On July 12, Main Street Medina will host its second of three Ladies Night Out events. The theme: 1950's sock hop. Women around the community are invited to experience an evening of shopping, snacking and socializing.
MEDINA COMMUNITY BAND SUMMER CONCERT SERIES The Medina Community Band will continue it's summer concert series, playing every Friday beginning at 8:30 p.m. throughout the month of July. Under the lead of conductor Marcus Neiman, the band plays three to four concerts on the road and at home throughout the fall, winter and spring in addition to their popular summer concert series.

Their Covered Bridge Tour begins just east of Cleveland, taking passengers to six different covered bridges and historic structures. The tour lasts six hours and along the way there is a lunch stop at a covered bridge-turned-pizzeria. The Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, otherwise known more simply as the Metro Parks, is a public agency serving the citizens of Central Ohio by providing a regional system of clean, safe and natural area parks. Metro Parks feature 20 outstanding natural area parks with more than 230 miles of trails and over 27,000 acres of land in seven Central Ohio counties. Some things to know about this independent system of parks: The Metro Parks protects 2,400 species of plants and animals, including 297 species of birds. Within the system of parks are two golf courses, two disc golf courses and four nature centers with displays. The Parks offer over 3,600 different programs and activities for all age rages. They are also extremely dog-friendly with 19 pet trails, three dog swimming areas and six fenced-in dog parks. What more can you ask for?

Holden Arboretum’s Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Family Emergent Tower takes its guests on an explorative adventure through the forest and tree canopy. The Murch Canopy Walk is a 500-foot-long elevated walkway that is 65 feet above the forest floor. The Kalberer Family Emergent Tower provides a view like none other, taking guests above the trees to a height of 120 feet. On a clear day, guests may even be able to see Lake Eerie. Tickets are sold at the Corning Visitor Center and cost $14 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-18 years old. Children under the age of five are free.

SUMMER IS UPON US AND WITH THAT, SO IS FESTIVAL SEASON HERE IN NORTHEAST OHIO. The 2nd Annual Uncorked Medina Wine Festival will be held at the Buffalo Creek Retreat in Seville. The event takes place on July 20 and 21 and will give locals an opportunity to taste up to 80 wines from all over the world. Craft beers and food trucks will also be available. All this, thrown in with live entertainment and a marketplace amidst the Tuscan-like setting, will provide locals with a truly unique experience. Jeanne Hurt, one of the event organizers, estimates that nearly 2,000 people will attend the festival and promises an experience that wine connoisseurs and novices alike will thoroughly enjoy. General admission tickets that include 10 tastings are $25. Tickets for Friday night’s Sip & Savor event are available for $50 and tickets for a multi-course twilight dinner on Saturday featuring wine pairings prepared by local chef Anthony Scolaro can be purchased for $150. All the proceeds will directly benefit Friends of Medina County Parks. 34
