July always brings a sense of celebration, but this month holds a historic weight as our nation marks its 250th anniversary. I am old enough to remember the Bicentennial celebration in 1976—complete with my bell-bottom jeans of the era. As children, many of us walked through Independence Hall, stood by the Liberty Bell, and visited the Betsy Ross House (a site close to my heart, as my wife Karin is actually a relative of "Aunt Betsy" - as the family refers to her). It is awe-inspiring to think that Philadelphia was the cradle of American liberty. This semi-quincentennial is a truly momentous occasion.
Reflecting on this milestone brings a deep wave of patriotism. Travel has granted me the privilege of seeing many corners of the world, yet every journey home reminds me how fortunate I am to live in the United States. Without discounting the beauty of other nations, there truly is no place like home.
While we strictly keep politics out of this publication, I will always use this space to advocate for a community rooted in inclusion, support, and kindness. We were all taught the Golden Rule early in life, a principle mirrored in the mottos I strive to live by daily: Rotary’s Service Above Self and Business Network International’s (BNI’s) Givers Gain . At their core, these philosophies ask a simple thing of us: to be better for the people around us.
Our modern world faces unprecedented challenges. As we celebrate our nation’s birth and foundational values, let us pause to honor those who came before us—the individuals who served, protected, and guided our country forward. These are gifts we cannot take for granted.
God Bless America, and may you and your families have a wonderful Fourth of July.

ARTICLE BY NEIL KNASIAK, TRAVEL ADVISOR
The world of cruising has exploded over the past 25 years improving and refining every style of cruising including ocean cruising, river cruising and adventure expedition cruising.

No matter your choice, a gangway awaits you for your perfect cruising experience.
European river cruising offers an intimate journey through the heart of the continent, with industry leaders like Viking, AmaWaterways, and Avalon Waterways leading the way.
Unlike massive ocean liners, these small ships carry under 200 passengers, creating an exclusive, relaxed atmosphere. The onboard vibe radiates casual elegance, where luxury is sophisticated yet completely unpretentious. Guests unwind without strict dress codes, relaxing in beautifully appointed staterooms featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that frame ever-changing views. Every need is met with elegant, world-class service from a dedicated crew that anticipates your every desire.
Dining onboard is a cultural exploration. The ships feature award-winning food and beverage offerings crafted by talented chefs who source fresh, local ingredients at every port. Perfect pairings are delivered by
knowledgeable sommeliers, matching regional vintages with exquisite meals.
The curated itineraries seamlessly connect Europe’s greatest treasures, offering interesting excursions in most every port. Passengers choose from guided walking tours, active bike rides through the countryside, or private tastings. You will glide along popular itineraries featuring notable capital cities and charming Old Europe villages. Each day brings new discoveries: fairytale castles on rocky cliffs, gothic cathedrals, and rolling vineyards galore.
Traveling during the holidays reveals the seasonal, festive atmosphere of the Christmas markets. Towns transform into winter wonderlands filled with twinkling lights, handcrafted gifts, and the aroma of gingerbread and glühwein. It is a seamless, luxurious way to experience the timeless magic of Europe.
No travel segment has advanced faster than ocean cruising. The industry is redefined by new mega-ships acting as floating cities with unique neighborhoods, while older vessels undergo extensive luxury renovations.
“Your CruisePlanners® travel advisor will create a cruising experience that will leave you breathless with joy and wonder!”
— Neil Knasiak, travel advisor

The global contemporary market is dominated by powerhouse brands like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival, Princess Cruises, Holland America, Disney Cruise Line, and Viking. For an intimate, ultra-luxury experience, travelers can turn to Silversea, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Windstar Cruises, and Azamara.
These technological and design marvels offer world-class onboard entertainment, expansive spas, high-tech gyms, and endless dining outlets tailored to every palate. Itineraries span the globe, charting courses through the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Baltic, Aegean, Adriatic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
An ocean cruise can be as relaxed or energetic as you desire, packed with
onboard thrills and diverse on-shore excursions. An experienced travel advisor can seamlessly match these options to your precise wants, needs, and budget.
To help you choose between a mega-ship or an intimate luxury cruise, consider:
• Your ideal pace of travel (energetic with onboard thrills, or quiet and relaxed?)
• The regions or oceans you are most eager to explore
• Who is traveling with you (e.g., a multi-generational family or a couple's getaway?)
For travelers who view the world as a classroom and an adventure, expedition cruising offers the ultimate frontier. This distinct style of travel completely redefines the voyage, trading the traditional cruise ports and mega-ship crowds for raw,

untamed wilderness. It is a journey designed for the curious, where the destination itself takes center stage.
What truly distinguishes expedition cruising is the spirit of exploration and flexibility. Instead of following rigid timetables, these voyages adapt to the whims of nature. Ships navigate by ice conditions, weather patterns, and wildlife sightings, making every single itinerary completely unique. You might wake up to an impromptu detour to watch a pod of orca whales or change course to land on a remote, volcanic beach.
The vessels themselves are marvels of rugged engineering and refined comfort. Built with ice-strengthened hulls, brands like Ponant, Silversea Expeditions, Viking, Quark Expeditions, and Hurtigruten Expeditions safely venture into the world's most hostile environments. Onboard, the traditional cruise staff is replaced by an elite Expedition Team of marine biologists, geologists, and historians who lead daily lectures and guide shore landings.
Every day brings exhilarating, hands-on field research. Passengers board rugged Zodiac watercraft
to cruise past towering blue icebergs, kayak alongside inquisitive penguins in Antarctica, or hike through remote Galápagos trails. There are no Broadway shows or massive casinos here; instead, the evening entertainment consists of recaps with scientists and stargazing under pristine night skies. It is an immersive, thrilling escape that transforms passive tourists into active explorers of the planet's final frontiers.
If you are ready to plan your ultimate adventure, think about:
• Your dream expedition destination (e.g., Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos Islands)
• Your preferred activity level (e.g., casual walks, rugged hiking, or active kayaking)
• If you have a specific wildlife encounter on your bucket list

Hunting Can Be For More Than Treasure Boxes and Jewels
ARTICLE BY CHEYENNE FORBES

Treasure hunting has been around for as long as there was, well, treasure to find! When we hear the words “treasure hunt”, our minds wander to historic shipwrecks with pirates and sunken chests full of gold. Modernly, after metal detectors became more popular in the 70’s however, treasure hunting has been associated more with beach combing. Nowadays, beaches and parks are the most popular sites for searching for treasure— especially here in the Delaware County area.
Lots of people know that if you want to hunt for treasure, you need a good shovel and a metal detector. However, if you want to keep better track of all your treasure finds, you can bring a field notebook! This will help with documenting coordinates of search areas, weather conditions, and anything of note you want to jot down. A camera will also be effective as you can take pictures of your findings; this helps with identification for your finds. Longtime treasure hunters are exceptionally great at identifying objects; they’re able to by looking through the object through a historical lens.
Before you arrive at your destination (whether it is a national park or a coastline) make sure to research the area. Reading up on the local history and viewing old maps is a great way to get an idea

on the types of items you might find. For example, if you know you’ll be searching around fairgrounds or a home that was built in the 1800s, some objects you could expect to find are iron objects such as horseshoes or oxen shoes, harmonica reeds, and even musket balls from time to time. This not only gives insight to the land but also its people and their culture.
Coins are a common find throughout treasure hunting and some certainly color our American history. An infamous one is the Liberty Head nickel (also known as a V nickel): a coin sporting Lady Liberty with stars on one side and the Roman numeral “V” surrounded by a wreath on the other. It was a five-cent piece that came into circulation in 1883 but it didn't have the word “cents” to signify its value as it was deemed not necessary. Scammers learned that the coin was close in diameter to a five dollar gold piece and would plate the nickels in gold to use it as such.
The government did eventually catch on and later that same year, the newer versions of these coins had the word “cents” on them.
History and knowledge are two great treasures that you can get from hunting, but nothing beats the fun you have when you’re searching in a group. There are many treasure hunting groups and clubs who would love to have new members join them. There are different websites that not only have equipment for sale but also lists groups to join such as Kellycodetectors.com or Metalpursuits.com.
If that feels too daunting, you can always ask some friends and family to join you while doing other hobbies for the summer. Treasure hunting while hiking or camping can add more fun to your outing. You don’t have to be a professional to hunt for treasure—just someone who enjoys nature and loves to learn about history.

It is important to remember that while it is fun to run off and start hunting for treasure, you must make sure you have all the basic necessities to keep yourself safe. Always have a bottle of water to stay hydrated and sunscreen to protect your skin! A hat will protect you from the sun’s harmful rays while you’re searching away. A first aid kit is always handy in case of any minor cuts or burns.
If you’d like to get out there and go treasure hunting on your own—or even with family and friends—there are many places to go in the Delaware County area. The Brandywine Battlefield is in Chadds Ford. There is Brandywine Creek State Park in Wilmington Delaware, which is open all year round, as well as Bellevue State Park in New Castle County overlooking the Delaware river. Dewey Beach in Eastern Sussex County is great for treasure hunters who want a good view of the ocean.
When you find your treasure, you’ll be able to keep modern-day coins and pieces of jewelry. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, coins and relics dating back more than 100 years must be surrendered to the authorities. The Archeological Resources Protection Act prohibits the excavation and removal of objects over 100 years old from public grounds.
As you’re out there, always be aware of private property versus public land. Remember to get permission whenever you want to search on private property. If you’re looking to search on public land, always check the laws and regulations. Some areas are free game while others require a permit. Visit www.pa.gov to learn more about metal detecting in state parks.
Never forget that when you’re out there hunting for treasure, you’re also hunting for knowledge and years worth of history, and those are some of the best things to have!

Long-time treasure hunters are exceptionally great at identifying objects; they do this by looking at the object through a historical lens.

“Trump Accounts” are set to roll out, with contributions beginning around July 4, 2026. Children under age 18 will be eligible to open an account, with total contributions capped at $5,000 per year from any source. In addition, children born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 may qualify for a one-time $1,000 contribution from the Treasury Department, provided the appropriate election is filed. These accounts are designed to support longterm, tax-advantaged savings for families.
Whether the specifics evolve or not, they highlight something more important than any one product—how we prepare the next generation for both wealth and responsibility. For many DELCO families, the bigger opportunity comes not just from investing but from coordinating the investment accounts while thinking about risk, taxes and estate planning.
The biggest risk may not be market volatility—it’s failing to educate our children on how to build, manage, and respect wealth. With a strong foundation, financial education can compound to create amazing results.
Time is the greatest asset. A simple example: $5,000 invested at age 1 versus age 18 can be the difference between a meaningful head start and playing catch-up for decades. Compounding doesn’t just reward returns, it rewards time.
$5,000 invested at birth at 8% grows to about $1.27 million by age 72.
$5,000 invested at age 18 at 8% grows to roughly $320,000 by age 72.
18 years can dramatically impact outcomes!
State sponsored 529 plans (savings vehicles for qualified education expenses, like college tuition) offer tax-free growth for education. Roth IRAs (an individual retirement account that allows your money to grow tax-free), once kids have earned income, provide tax-free growth for life.
Trump Accounts introduce another layer of tax-deferred growth. When used together, these accounts help families keep more of what they build.
Estate
This is bigger than money. It’s about legacy: values, education, and preparedness. These accounts become tools not just for transfer, but for teaching stewardship, responsibility, and long-term thinking.
How They Fit Together
• 529 Plans: Best for education, tax-free if used properly
• Trump Accounts: Early investing, broader flexibility
• Roth IRAs: The long-term powerhouse once kids begin working
The Bigger Picture
• What matters most isn’t the account, it’s the habit.
• Start early. Fund consistently. Talk about it often.
• Let your children see what it means to build something over time.
These decisions should never be made in isolation. Member's Wealth help families align Risk, Investments, Tax, and Estate into one coordinated plan, so wealth isn’t just transferred, it’s understood. This is Wealth Done R.I.T.E.helping families prepare the next generation not just to receive wealth, but to steward it with purpose.
Quick breakdown:
529 Plans
• Tax-free growth when used for education
• State tax benefits (including PA)
• High contribution limits
• Limited flexibility if not used for education
Trump Accounts (New)
• Designed to jumpstart long-term investing for children
• After-tax contributions, tax-deferred growth
• Broader use than education (details evolving)
• Likely lower contribution limits than 529s
Roth IRAs (for working teens)
• Funded with earned income
• Tax-free growth and withdrawals
• Extremely flexible (can double as emergency or first home funds)
• Contribution limited to earned income
Simple Comparison
Account | Best Use | Tax Benefit | Flexibility
529 | Education | Tax-free for education | Low
Trump Account | Long-term investing | Tax-deferred | Medium
Roth IRA | Retirement | Tax-free | High

If you take nothing away from this entire page, please remember this: BRINE PEOPLE, BRINE!
Now these are my husband’s words and boy is he correct. And I’m from the south and know how to grill. Brining was for the big stuff, not little tiny thighs. I stand corrected.
Brining surprisingly doesn’t make things salty (well depends on if you leave the skin on which you should do – ends up not salty.) Overnight is best but 4 hours will due. Like you suddenly realize at 1pm that you haven’t started…. It’s OK.
Brining is an art – ask anyone who does it. (But it’s really not, it’s salt and whatever else you want to throw in there. I’m partial to hot peppers in a brine. And yes, my husband is in disagreement but he now sees it’s not like pouring hot sauce on something.)
I’m a brine girl – dry rub is “seasoning.” So yeah, salt and water is brining.. You are allowed to disagree. About 4 teaspoons of salt (I do the Celtic salt thing but it’s all salt) to 4 cups water – easy to remember. Me, overnight – you, whatever works. And adding salt at the end doesn’t count. (That’s not brining, but most of you know that.)
Adding crushed garlic and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to the brine is yummy. Cook however you like. Here’s mine: Boneless, skinless
thighs take about 10 minutes over medium-high heat, while bone-in, skin-on thighs require at least 20 minutes. Did I mention GRILL IT!?
If your grill is also a smoker, the chicken will have a pink center –not raw – but make sure its internal temperature is 165. Oven is fine but grilling is great - even those little home grills.
A note about the skin. Even if you don't eat it, it's still best to barbecue with skin on. It helps keep moisture in.
Karin Davidson
Karin Davidson has been grilling since she was little (with Mom’s help.) Her grandmother was a Miami girl and they were all a part of Florida at the time. Grilling was cooking. Karin says her most favorite memory was her grandmother, Irma, saying to her “I’ll never forget how you cooked a pie on the fire in a foil oven!”

• Ripe Pear
• Prosciutto
• Burrata
• Lemon Zest
• Extra Virgin Olive Oil
• Dried Figs
• Red Pepper Flakes
1. Slice the ripe pear into thin slices.
2. Arrange pear slices on a plate, creating a base for the salad.
3. Nestle slices of prosciutto in-between pear slices, a perfect combo of sweet and savory.
4. Tear the burrata into bite-sized pieces and scatter them over the salad adding a velvety creaminess to the ensemble.
5. Grate fresh lemon zest over the entire salad, infusing it with citrus flavor.
6. Top with fresh basil, figs and pepper flakes.
7. Finish by generously drizzling extra virgin olive oil over the salad, creating a silky texture that ties it all together.

Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.
He calls days later.
That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.
The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.
The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.

The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.
Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.
3
No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.
4
Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.
5
The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.
