There are a multitude of diverse spots around town to discover, whether it is a new restaurant with a great patio to enjoy with friends and family, a hiking trail to take in nature and the surrounding scenery or a niche boutique hotel for a relaxing staycation—there is something for everyone.

Those outcomes are objectives of supporters for Treasured Vessels Foundation, a nonprofit whose staff provides safe communities that restore survivors of sexual exploitation and help them achieve their true potential.

"We seek justice, dignity and hope. We desire for people to look past brokenness and cracks on the outside to reveal the treasure inside. We provide a longterm safe place for healing and growth to individuals impacted by this type of trauma, including food, shelter, education and emotional care," says Treasured Vessels Foundation Founder/CEO Alicia Bush, who adds a calling was placed on her heart to launch this initiative during 2015 after she discovered the lack of long-term placement for trafficking survivors.

Human trafficking occurs in every country and state, says Alicia, and Texas is ranked No. 2 in the nation for human trafficking calls. According to the Trafficking Institute statistics, 83% of trafficking cases in 2020 started online.

WHERE PEOPLE ARE FREE As a Texas native, wife, homeschooling mother of three, author and international missionary, Alicia is an active member in the C7 Coalition, North Texas Coalition Against Sex Trafficking, C3ST, Youth Homelessness Committee, Frisco Chamber of Commerce, Plano Chamber of Commerce and the CEO Non-Profit Council.

Alicia says they currently have a lengthy waitlist of survivors. "Once our funding goal has been met, we'll break ground and start building adjacent to our current property. This will increase our bed count to 12-plus beds, hopefully by the end of 2022," she adds.

The foundation assists survivors from Collin, Denton, Dallas, Tarrant and Grayson counties.

Treasured Vessels Foundation staffers also are working to create a property to house up to 80 individuals, and have a goal to launch a community for minors by 2024. The program includes treatment plans, educational support, life skill support and other therapies, such as equine, yoga, gardening, art and music.

Morgann Delaney, TVF marketing manager, says the length of their program is between 12 and 36 months for ages 18-24 years old. "The women within this program have experienced a significant decrease in PTSD, depression and anxiety," she adds.

“Once a woman is recovered, people just kind of put a band-aid on it or pigeonhole her in a substance and alcohol abuse rehab or some sort of other shelter.

Driving a vehicle can be one of life’s joys (depending on the car!), a rite of passage when we receive our driver’s license, and even an extension of our independence and freedom. It offers the ability to drive to a job to earn an income or to hit the open road on vacation. Owning and driving any vehicle also comes with the responsibility of maintaining it, having regularly scheduled check-ups, as well as handling unexpected repairs that may arise. That’s where Honest-1 Auto Care of McKinney comes in. Their goal is to provide honest service with integrity, just like their name.

Honest-1 offers a wide array of services, including alignments, brake services, diagnostics, electrical, engine maintenance and repair, fluid flushes/oil changes, preventative maintenance, HVAC, steering and suspension, and comprehensive vehicle inspections. Blake Sellers, owner of Honest-1 McKinney, spent the majority of his career in consulting, followed by several years working with start-ups. He then decided he wanted to run his own business. He chose Honest-1 because of its brand promise of having high integrity and being “eco-friendly.”

“Unfortunately, the auto care industry as a whole generally has a bad reputation when it comes to honesty and the environment. We’re trying to differentiate our shop,” he says.

Sellers says there are several features that differentiate Honest-1 from other auto care facilities. Among them are a 36-month/36,000-mile warranty on repairs. This nationwide warranty gives customers warranty coverage and service at more than 35,000 authorized facilities across the country! In addition, they offer complimentary vehicle health inspections with an accompanying digital report, and free customer shuttle service within McKinney.

They’ve also recently launched a customer loyalty/rewards program called H-1 Rewards. Sellers believes these benefits collectively have helped to earn Honest-1 its 4.8 rating on Google since they opened in 2018.

Honest-1 not only serves its customers but strives to serve the community. They offer discounts to teachers and school staff, veterans and active-duty military, first responders, and health professionals. They also collect donations from their customers that support three local non-profit organizations: Hugs Café, Hope For The Warriors, and Hope Clinic. Donations are collected via collection boxes at the complimentary snack bar.

Sellers has been married to his wife, Cristina, for 36 years. They have two grown children, Nick and Cary, and a dog named Dobby. His family loves to travel and see the world. Sellers and his family even lived in Italy at one point during his previous career. His favorite place to visit is Breckenridge, Colorado. “It’s our happy place!” Sellers says. Any road trips they take in their travels (including their most recent trip to Breckenridge in their 2011 Lexus with 153,000 miles!) will no doubt be in a well-maintained vehicle, thanks to Honest-1.

Yaghi has been an interior designer for 21 years. Her educational experience started at LSU and then continued to the Art Institute in Minneapolis, where she received her bachelor's degree. She has worked for small and large companies doing both commercial and residential projects. Yaghi’s biggest and proudest work was a 250,000 SF commercial project. She started Sue's Chic Interiors last fall when her husband retired, and it was time for her to bring to life a dream.

“Despite being new, I've built this business over 20 years and my track record speaks for itself,” says Yaghi. “My hope is that Sue's Chic Interiors will become the go-to brand for chic design and interiors.”

In addition to offering design services and sourcing furniture, Sue’s Chic Interiors is one of the few businesses in the United States that combines Interior Design and Professional KonMari organizing services. I can, however, grow some things and do so very well! I can’t wait to share with you the plants that have lived in my home for over 15 years… successfully!!
