LIFESTYLE LETTER
Local Love
February 2022 PUBLISHER
Sharon Duffy | sharon.duffy@citylifestyle.com EDITOR
William Thomas | william.thomas@citylifestyle.com
Art comes in many different forms, and it gives us a glimpse of someone’s heart—a part of them we don’t see on the surface. We are all drawn to various expressions of art in different ways, and we tend to appreciate artistic expression that makes us feel something and that resonates with us. I have always admired the vast creativity that artisans of all kinds pour into their craftsmanship. Our February issue is dedicated to sharing about local products, makers and experiences available in our area. As you read about these in our community and their stories of passion and self-expression, we hope you are inspired to pursue what you love. After all, February is the month of love. With the hectic schedules we often keep, it is easy to let our hobbies, talents and special interests fall by the wayside. We just have to be deliberate about allowing ourselves time to pour into interests that we love and that fill us up. Local Jimmy Mauldin shares his love of fishing with the youth of our community and is spreading his love to youth nationwide. Servant leaders love our community and a few are featured in this issue. Please tell me about of any servant leaders that you know that I can also feature in our publication. We are very fortunate in McKinney and Prosper to have so many people that care! So, while you fill your home with chocolates, flowers and valentines (and perhaps college basketball) this month, remember to give yourself some time to do what you love. Find what makes you feel alive, and don’t forget to share it with us. And while you are at it, don’t forget to shop local and support our local makers and artists right here in our community.

The Community Food Pantry of
McKinney Serving Those in Need 20
LOCA LLY SOU R CE D | LOCAL S E RVI CE S
Proving it is never too late to learn new ways to skin a cat— or, in this case, feed people who are going through tough times for whatever reason, the Community Food Pantry in McKinney is changing to better serve the community. They found that their method of providing food in a manner that required a stringent application process to be less than optimal. To date it was simply handing out bags of food that included things such as bread and peanut butter, as well as other non-perishable products. However, now they are going to change to a more outward-looking approach and focus on things like senior citizen centers and students and children while focusing on a healthy balance of products delivered. Although the Pantry has the infrastructure and donations to support the change, donations, either food or cash, as well as volunteers are always welcome. Currently, the needs are for fruit cups, protein bars, and more as they build up supplies for the student outreach program. The Pantry is also partnering with City Church, a church for children only. As you consider donating, please remember that cash will provide extra flexibility . The Community Food Pantry of McKinney is a 501(c)3 organization. To donate, drop 307 Smith Street or call 972-547-4404 Traci Hutchins serves as a member of the Board of Directors. She says she has “Found it’s been a blessing to her as well as to those served.” While her husband, Tim, is busy at Hutchins Barbecue, their three adult children had always been involved with the Pantry as well. Hannah, 23, now studying architecture and is also an artist. Collin, 24, works in San Antonio for JB Hunt and is an aspiring actor. Adam is following his family’s tradition of helping and is a missionary. All have worked at least part-time at the Pantry. All volunteers and those who donate are very much appreciated, so chip in for this worthy cause

S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLNE S S
If you’ve spent any length of time browsing McKinney and Prosper community groups on social media recently, you’ve likely seen your neighbors or friends asking: “Who do you recommend for a Mommy Makeover?” And the resounding answer: Dr. Naveen Setty So, what exactly is a “Mommy Makeover,” and why is Dr. Setty the emerging top choice for North Texas moms’ groups? We visited Setty Plastics & Aesthetics to find out more. “Pregnancy is great,” Dr. Setty says. “Having kids is wonderful. But it does change a woman’s body, especially after having multiple children. So the Mommy Makeover is a very popular procedure. It typically involves a breast lift, with or without implants, a tummy tuck, and liposuction. More recently, what’s become popular is adding a Brazilian butt lift, where we transfer fat to the buttock area to help contour that as well.” Setty points out how many moms today don’t have the luxury of taking post-operative downtime for numerous surgeries. “The nice thing is we’re taking care of multiple areas in one procedure,” he says. “A lot of these women may work outside the home as well as take care of their kids. So having just one procedure, where moms can get everything done and then get back to life, is really helpful.” Setty relocated his thriving practice from North McKinney to his new location in 2020, just as Covid hit and began to close businesses. Yet he considers that downtime “a blessing in disguise” for his patients. “We were shut down for six weeks from a surgical standpoint,” Setty says. “So it really gave us plenty of time to get everything up and running, to make it as seamless of an experience as possible when patients started coming back.”
And Setty’s facility, complete with its own surgery center, is built for a post-Covid era. “We have everything here,” Dr. Setty says. “Before, I would have to take my patients to a hospital facility for surgery, where you get exposed to more people, other patients—maybe sick patients as well. Versus now, it's a very limited group of people that are coming in here. It’s a more controlled environment, so I think patients feel more comfortable with that.” The policies and procedures Setty has in place were created with the well-being of his staff and patients in mind. “Early on, we adapted a lot of safety protocols to really make it as safe as possible so our patients can feel comfortable coming here,” he says. “We still continue with mask-wearing. We still do pre-screenings before people come in. With surgery, we’re very strict about pre-operative Covid testing. We do a lot of different things for the safety of the staff, and also to make sure patients heal well after surgery.” The emergence of Covid impacted Dr. Setty’s business and clientele in other fortunate ways as well. “I think a lot of people during the pandemic realized that life is kind of short,” Setty says. “It seems the mindset is that, ‘if there are things I’ve been thinking about doing, I should just go ahead and do them.’ I think plastic surgery became something that people realized they’ve been thinking about for a long time, so now it’s just ‘go ahead and do it.’ I’ve heard that from a lot of patients.” Setty also credits the increase in remote work for giving his clients the opportunity to undergo procedures they may not have been able to logistically consider in pre-pandemic times. “People have been working from home,” he says. “Where before, people were worried about taking that time off from work, now it’s a lot easier to manage your life after a big surgery like a Mommy Makeover.” Plus, the doctor says, being at home during the pandemic has provided people more opportunity to research and become exposed to various operations, as well as gaining awareness of what’s available. Add to that the increasing candor of celebrities and others in the public spotlight, and Dr. Setty believes plastic surgery has become more accessible and more acceptable than ever before. “Just the fact that you see on these Facebook groups, people talk about it openly—it has changed a lot,” he says. “I started my training in 2001. At that time, people kind of kept it quiet. They didn’t talk about it as much. But now cosmetic surgery is pretty mainstream.” CONTINUED >

And it’s not just for moms. Dr. Setty says men actually make up 10% - 20% of his clientele. “Statistically, across the country, male plastic surgery is growing significantly,” he says. “Liposuction and Botox are very common now for men. Male plastic surgery is becoming a lot more accepted. It’s still a little more hush-hush, obviously, than it is for women. But it’s becoming much more popular.” Setty’s passion for his work is even more evident as he shares stories about his male clientele. The doctor says many of his male patients were unaware, and become quite excited when they find out, that a common condition called gynecomastia can be treated with male breast reduction. “That is actually one of my favorite surgeries,” Setty says. “Seeing these guys coming in, being very embarrassed by the situation, and then seeing how confident they are afterwards is rewarding. I even had a gentleman in his seventies who came from Arkansas to have this treated. He sent us a picture six weeks later. He said, ‘I haven’t worn this type of shirt in fifty years because I was always embarrassed about my chest.’ So, male plastic surgery is definitely very satisfying. It’s nice to see that it’s becoming more accepted.” For men who may be considering a cosmetic procedure, Setty says his staff is welcoming. “There is no judgment here,” he says. “We definitely treat plenty of men, so it’s not like an, ‘Oh, what are you doing here?’ type of thing. It is different treating a man versus a woman. There are different expectations; it’s a different experience. But we’re very comfortable treating men, and we try to make it as comfortable as possible for them.” In fact, it’s not uncommon for couples to come in together for consultations, according to Setty. He’s happy to see romantic partners and spouses coordinate their schedules to each take care of the other during their post-operative stages. Dr. Setty calls Prosper home, and enjoys any opportunity he and his wife, a pediatrician, can find to get out of the house and explore the community offerings. They like to try new places for date nights, and the doctor credits his amazing staff with helping him balance business and his personal life. The Setty family was initially drawn to Collin County from the midwest while searching for warmer winters. Now, more than a decade later, Dr. Setty draws patients to McKinney from all over the country, and even the globe, through the warmth of his practice. “I think if you look at our online reputation, a lot of it is about the time we take with patients—making them comfortable, really walking them through the process, and being there every step of the way,” says Setty. “It’s not that you just come in, and once your surgery is done here, it’s over. We really take pride in—not just the surgery, but the whole process—making it as pleasant of an experience as possible for people.” Setty speaks with empathy for his clients, understanding how daunting it may feel to seek out cosmetic procedures. “It can be a very nerve-racking experience, even for the initial consultation,” he says. “Coming in for the first time and having to disrobe in front of a stranger, and you’re showing your biggest insecurities. So, we’re trying to make our patients as comfortable as possible, and make it a good experience. I think that’s why people come.” NAVEEN SETTY, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Of course Setty acknowledges the results are what has truly driven the growth of his clientele. “A lot of who we see are patients who refer other friends and family,” he says. “And that’s still the best way to know that you’re making an impression on people.” Dr. Setty says the biggest increase he’s seen at Setty Plastics & Aesthetics has been throughout the non-surgical services. “We have a lot more non-invasive body contouring options,” he says. “We have a nurse injector who does Botox, fillers, and other non-surgical facial rejuvenation options.” The medical spa offerings include laser hair removal, Coolscuplting, microblading, and various skincare options. And Setty says future plans for his practice include expansion of these service lines. “We’re always thinking about growing and offering more kinds of wellness-type services” Setty says. “Whether it be weight loss management, nutrition in general, even alternative medicine types of options. Because all of this is important to the surgical process—from the pre-operative to the post-operative—having my patients in overall good health is very important to the healing process.”
With a second medical spa location already open in Dallas, Setty says there’s always potential for opening additional medical spas around the area. Until then, Dr. Setty remains focused on what keeps him motivated: bringing his clients’ groove back. “It is a kind of self-love,” Setty says. “it is about my patients doing something for themselves, and it doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks. So many people feel youthful; they still feel like their younger selves. But they don’t necessarily see it anymore. So we’re just restoring that confidence.” And Dr. Setty says that’s what he loves most about his industry. “When I first started, I was doing reconstructive surgery. But now I’ve transitioned to a purely cosmetic surgery practice,” Setty says. “I think it’s powerful. We really do make people happy, and it’s a nice feeling. It’s not like other aspects of medicine, where people are having to come to you because they’re sick and they need something taken care of. They’re coming because they want to, and they leave here happy.”

A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT SERVANT LEADER MAYOR RAY SMITH
30
LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L IFE + CULTURE
He’s tall, but not gigantic in size. However, anyone who knows Ray Smith, Prosper’s mayor for almost the past twelve years, knows he is a giant of a man with a wonderfully disarming sense of humor. His true servant leadership has been the heart of the explosive growth of the Town of Prosper and he has been a steady and conscientious leader. Prosper could not have asked for a better person to guide its growth and keep the community expanding while becoming an outstandingly positive and beautiful place in which to live and raise children.
Mayor Ray Smith
MAYOR R AY SMITH
Ray’s humility belies his knowledge and experience. An avid Cowboy fan, his father played in the 1960s, Ray was a member of the 1980 Southwest Conference Champion football team. Earning his BBA from Baylor, Ray also serves his community as Market President for Farmers Bank and Trust. He and his wife of over 31 years, Lena, raised three sons and are currently raising two teenage grandsons Jacob and Jackson. This “gentle giant” must have an outstanding ability to multi-task. Before moving to Prosper in 2005, Ray served the also exploding population of Frisco in the City Council, Economic Development Corporation, Community Development Corporation, Planning and Zoning Board, as a volunteer firefighter, and the Frisco Education Foundation. Prior to being elected mayor in 2010, Ray was elected President of the Economic Development in 2004 and still serves on the Board of Directors. A member of the 2006 Home Rule Charter Committee, which wrote the charter dictating how the Town of Prosper is governed. The Town Council benefitted from his service for 3 years prior to his becoming mayor. In 2016, the mayor was elected to serve on the North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Council, of which he was elected President in 2020. Besides currently being the chair of the Collin College Foundation Board of Directors, he is also a member of the Meals on Wheels of Collin County Board of Advisors. You have to wonder how he balances so much responsibility that even includes as an alternate member of the Regional Transportation Council. The Town of Prosper limits mayors to 12 years, and in May of 2022, Mayor Smith will be stepping down. When asked what he enjoyed the most about his tenure, Ray named a few things, including figuring out all the different situations that arose while working as a team with the Town Council. While remaining humble, you can still see the pride he has in what has been accomplished. One of his main goals were to make sure that there was plenty of green space and that not all neighborhoods would be surrounded by high walls. The downtown area has been improved CONTINUED >

dramatically under his leadership and, of course new schools and a fantastic football stadium that would make any “Friday Night Lights” fan envious. Ray enjoyed working with the contractors such as Jim Williams and Chris Martin among others. Anyone residing in Prosper for several years can only imagine how much of an undertaking the management of the growth has been. As Ray began his initial term in 2010, the population of Prosper was 9423. By 2020 it had more than tripled in size and is currently over 33,000. And if you were a new resident that received a welcoming letter, Ray personally signed them all. That is the signature of a great leader. Just one example of accolades. From Mary Ann Moon, Executive Director, Prosper Economic Development Corporation: “As an Economic Developer having worked with numerous communities and elected officials, it has been, to steal

an adjective from Ray Smith, a tremendous experience to serve with and work for him. Mayor Smith epitomizes the definition of servant. He possesses no hidden agendas, ego, or desire for political gain. Ray’s focus is on what is best for Prosper’s residents. Every decision he makes is done with thoughtful consideration and analysis of long-term implications for the community. He does all of this with a killer sense of humor and a positive attitude. His love for his family, combined with a deep abiding faith and genuine regard for others, has made him an incredibly effective Mayor. Ray has left a solid foundation upon which others may build as his tenure has had a profound and positive impact on our Town. His leadership will be missed.” An evening of tribute will be held on April 7th, 6:00 pm at the Omni Hotel in Frisco. For tickets or information, email theleansmithgroup@gmail.com. Fishing! Kids Need to Fish
Getting children outdoors and into fishing can make a difference in their lives. Fish America Now (FAN) offers a unique platform for mentoring, educating, and inspiring kids to learn to fish. Kids Need to Fish. This thought is what inspired Jimmy Mauldin to start the Fish America Now Foundation. With technology use at an all-time high among school-aged students, Fish America Now strives to get kids away from their devices and outside to gain valuable skills and instill a love for the outdoors.

"There is something magical that happens sitting by a pond that doesn't happen anywhere else," says Jimmy Mauldin, CEO/President of Fish America Now Foundation. The tagline "Kids Need to Fish" is the heart and soul of Fish America Now. From day trips to the local pond to weekend getaways at area lakes, Fish America Now helps form bonds and bring people together, providing children and families with fun, educational opportunities. FAN's platform consists of three programs –– FAN Club, FAN News, and FAN Guides. With the inaugural launch of FAN this spring, the organization will reach out to local parents and community members, recruiting teachers and mentors. After proper training, these volunteers will help lead their local FAN Club to get kids out to fish. Kids kindergarten through sixth grade can join their local FAN Club for a one-time administration fee of $29. Each member will receive a FAN tackle box, a fishing shirt, and sponsor amenities. Kids will receive lessons via online modules and in-person training, covering topics such as casting techniques, equipment, tackle assembly, fish handling, fish identification, fishing safety, aquatic education, and conservation. Kids will take what they have learned and hit the pond. Another important piece of the organization is FAN News, a fishing blog and printed newsletter. This monthly publication will allow those involved with FAN Clubs to learn about local fishing events and other important information to further aid in helping kids love to fish. The final piece of Fish America Now is FAN Guides, a network of licensed, professional fishing guides. FAN is launching in Prosper, Texas, and then expanding to other local communities later this year. Long-term plans include organizing FAN on a national scale. "Fishing is a lifelong skill and something that people will continue to learn over their lifetime," says Mauldin. "It is important to start young. Kids need to fish." For more information on how you can support or get involved with Fish America Now contact Jimmy Mauldin at jimmy@fishamericanow.org or visit www.fishamericanow.org.

Dr. Paul Chabot
Have you ever heard the saying, ‘I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could’? It’s not uncommon to see those words on a bumper sticker adorning the vehicle of a proud Texan while driving around town. This saying definitely applies to Paul Chabot, the native Californian, who fell in love with McKinney and has now made Texas his home. After reading about the town of McKinney in a magazine article ranking the best places to live in the U.S., Chabot’s interest was piqued. He looked further into what McKinney had to offer and discovered it’s thriving businesses, safe neighborhoods and quality schools. “It reminded me of what California used to be,” says Chabot. The family-friendly atmosphere appealed so much to him and his wife, Brenda, that they, along with their four children, moved to McKinney in 2016 and became Texans at heart. Another thing that’s not uncommon to see when driving around town these days is an abundance of campaign signs. Chabot’s are among them, reading “Military Commander Chabot Conservative for State Rep.” Chabot says that “Texas is America’s last best hope to right the ship in America.” He believes, “Whichever way Texas goes, so goes the nation.” In 2017, one year after his move to Texas, Chabot founded Conservative Move, a real estate brokerage that assists conservative-leaning individuals and businesses in relocating to states that reflect their values and desire for a better quality of life. Texas is the number one state that transplants are relocating to. Chabot believes the reason why is because, “Texas embodies the values the country was founded on.” He added, “Transplants aren’t coming here to change Texas, but to appreciate and be a part of Texas.”
Chabot has an extensive resume of accomplishments in the military, law enforcement and business, fueled by a desire to serve his community and country. At 16, he became a Sheriff Explorer Scout, which led to his 21-year tenure serving as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. There, he worked in the narcotics and street gang division and as a certified peace officer. He also served as a State Parole Board Commissioner and a Police Officer at the University of Southern California. He’s a proud veteran, having served 15 months of active duty as an intelligence officer with Joint Special Operations Forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He’s a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and holds a Top Secret Clearance with over 20 years of service. His other experience includes being a white house senior advisor, keynote speaker, adjunct professor, author, and earning his doctorate in executive leadership from George Washington University. In addition, Chabot founded Coalition for a Drug Free Texas and Coalition for McKinney Drug Free Youth, which stemmed from his own struggle with addiction at the young age of 12. Sustaining 35 years of sobriety is perhaps his proudest achievement. Not that he has a lot of spare time, but whenever he does, Chabot enjoys fixing things and working with his hands. He’s a self-proclaimed ‘handyman.’ His favorite fixer-upper project is his Chevy Impala, which has over 210,000 miles. Maybe he’ll get one of those aforementioned bumper stickers for it. It sounds like the perfect finishing touch for this proud Texan’s favorite car.

creative planning for your future ARTICLE BY ALLISON SWAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
Creative Planning believes there’s a richer way to wealth. Their team of CFP professionals, CPAs and attorneys work together to create clear customized plans to maximize your wealth, all in one place. Their award-winning in-house services span a variety of financial d isciplines, i ncluding c omprehensive wealth and investment management, insurance, tax prep, trusts, estate, financial and retirement planning. Founded in Overland Park, they have since branched out across the globe, gaining a national reputation that has earned them numerous prestigious awards, including #1 wealth management firm i n America by Barron’s, CNBC and Forbes. President and CEO Peter Mallouk shares his wealth of knowledge with approachable financial advice. Two issues coming together at once inspired the creation of Mallouk’s business. “My dad was a physician frustrated with his financial advisor who sold him products and didn’t really explain things well, and I was an estate attorney that saw a full view of the advisory world and thought there was a better way to deliver
the all around experience. Ultimately, that led to Creative Planning offering investments and planning as well as legal and tax advice in a very approachable, consultative way.” Mallouk has written several books, including 5 Mistakes Every Investor Makes and How to Avoid Them, and has cowritten Unshakeable: Your Financial Freedom Playbook and The Path: Accelerating Your Journey to Financial Freedom with Tony Robbins. “People are generally fearful of investment and feel the market is too low or too high at any given time. When there is a correction (a drop of 10% or more), people generally stay on the sidelines or sell their stocks, fearing the market may collapse and stay lower—there have been over 100 corrections, usually about one per year, and they have all ended with a full recovery. Some of these corrections turn into bear markets, a drop of 20% or more, and all have ended with a full recovery. On the other end of the spectrum, many are worried about investing when the market is at an CONTINUED >

all time high. This is actually completely normal and happens about once every nineteen days—in other words, all the time! We aren’t surprised when a Hershey’s bar, box of cereal or ticket to Disney World costs more, but somehow are shocked when the market hits an all time high. It’s normal, and inflation has a lot to do with it.” For those with a 401(k), Mallouk says to do everything you can to contribute. “Some 401(k) plans have an employer match, meaning for every dollar you put into the 401(k), the company will match—it usually applies to the first 3%. It’s a guaranteed 100% rate of return, and there is just nothing else you can do that is going to be as good as that. If you have the ability to contribute the max do that as well, but for sure take advantage of the match.” When faced with the choice to either invest or pay off debts first, Mallouk says to start with focusing on the interest rate. “All debts aren’t created equal—if you have credit card debt where you are paying 10% or more in interest, then paying off the debt before doing anything else other than a 401(k) match is the way to go. If your only debt is a home mortgage at 2-4% or so, then investing over a long period of time is very likely to yield you a far better outcome than making extra debt payments.” When planning an estate, it’s crucial to have a healthcare and financial power of attorney and a will or trust. “A healthcare power of attorney names someone to make healthcare decisions for you in the event you can’t make them for yourself. A financial power of attorney names someone to make financial decisions for you if you can’t for yourself. Lastly a will or a trust both name who will handle things for you in the event of your death, and who will oversee and inherit your assets. Trusts tend to make more sense for wealthier individuals as it can bypass the probate court system, which keeps things private, allows for a faster transfer of assets after death, and because it skips the court system, settling the estate is much less expensive.” When looking for a financial advisor, find the right one by asking the right questions. “Most don’t realize that the vast majority of financial advisors don’t have to act in the client’s best interests. A minority of financial advisors

are fiduciaries and operate under laws that share similarities with doctors and lawyers, meaning they do have to act in their client’s best interests. First, ask your advisor if they are registered as a broker or are dually registered. If they say yes to either, that means that part or all of the time, they don’t have to act in your best interests. There are thousands of advisors that will act in your best interest, so take the time to find one. Second, ask your advisor if their parent company, or the ownership of their parent company, own investment vehicles. If the answer is yes, don’t be surprised if some of those investment vehicles find their way into your portfolio. Essentially you may find yourself paying an advisor to then put you in a fund where the company collects another fee. There is no need to accept this conflict. Find a fiduciary that is not dually registered and that does not own their own investment products. At that point, you at least have someone that is incented to act on your behalf all the time. From there, look for education, credentials and experience with people like you.” As for the future, it’s never looked brighter at Creative Planning. “It’s an exciting time—we can do more for our clients today than at any point in our history. In many ways, it feels like we are just at the starting line.” For more information, visit CreativePlanning.com.

OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Sponsored by Jon C. Thompson, MD
Ellie LeBlanc
Imagine International Academy of North Texas
Practice makes perfect, they say. In the case of Ellie LeBlanc, a Varsity senior at Imagine International Academy of North Texas, this turned to be true. Although she also added a lot of dedication and team spirit in the mix to become Volleyball State Champion, four years in a row, together with her Dragon Ladies Varsity Team. Playing club volleyball helped Ellie build a strong foundation, which has made her the outstanding player that she is today. During club seasons, she had two-hour practices twice a week, conditioning twice a week, and games on Saturdays and Sundays. For school volleyball, she has two-hour practices, three times a week. She credits her coaches and teammates as the guiding forces in her development as a player over the years. Commitment and hard work, from both herself as well as her teammates over four years in high school, have led them to be state champions for four years in a row and a track record of being undefeated! Ellie also has been individually recognized as an outstanding player and was named to the Regional and All-State Teams all four years. When asked who inspired her, she is quick to say “I was inspired by Khat Bell who played volleyball at the University of Texas at Austin. I would always enjoy watching her play volleyball. Later in my career, I had the opportunity to attend a couple of volleyball camps with her which significantly helped me develop my skills and volleyball IQ.” Bryan LeBlanc, Ellie’s dad, is the Lady Dragons’ head coach. He started coaching the Imagine Varsity Volleyball team in 2018 and took the team all the way to their 1st State Championship! He did not have prior formal volleyball coaching experience but was heavily involved with his two daughters, Emma and Ellie’s volleyball activities. They both played rec and club volleyball since second grade. Attending all their practices and tournaments over the span of seven years, he gained a great deal of knowledge and appreciation for the game. “Coaching the Varsity team has been a highly rewarding experience getting to work with amazing student athletes over the
years but also getting a unique opportunity to spend more time coaching my two daughters Emma (varsity team from 2017-2019) and Ellie in the sport they loved before they left to start new chapters in their lives.” Ellie is currently a senior at Imagine International Academy of North Texas in McKinney and is looking forward to graduating in 2022 with an International Baccalaureate Diploma. She is currently in the middle of the college admission process and waiting to hear back from a couple of schools before she makes a final decision of where she will go for college. As of now, she is looking at attending business school at Indiana University, SMU or the University of Washington to major in marketing. She does not plan on playing volleyball at the collegiate level, but hopes to continue playing volleyball for fun in college.
