There’s something truly special about taking a moment to recognize the women in our lives who make the world more vibrant and beautiful. Whether it's our mothers, daughters, friends, or colleagues, these women are often the silent forces that shape our days and make life richer.

With Mother’s Day this month, our thoughts naturally turn to all those incredible women—biological mothers and mother figures alike—who have made an unforgettable impact on us. It’s the teachers, the friends, the neighbors, and the family members who offer their love, wisdom, and support in countless ways.
This month, as we celebrate these remarkable women, I also want to encourage you to support local businesses owned by women in our community. One of my favorite parts of this job is connecting with and championing the incredible women here in McKinney and Prosper. From movers and shakers to makers and builders, these women bring so much to the table, both seen and unseen. Their contributions, often behind the scenes, create beauty and impact that cannot be replicated.
Take a moment this month to recognize the women in your life. Send a text, make a phone call, or arrange a video call with the women who have made a difference for you. It’s a simple but powerful way to brighten someone’s day and remind them how much they’re loved.
Here’s to celebrating the women who make life so much more meaningful. Happy Mother’s Day and cheers to the ladies who inspire us every day!

CELEBRATING INSPIRING WOMEN, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND PARTNERS AT A THOUGHTFULLY CURATED TEA GATHERING.
Each year, McKinney and Prosper Lifestyle magazine publisher Sharon Duffy Thomas brings together the remarkable women who help shape our community—valued advertising partners and influential leaders whose impact extends far beyond business. This year’s ladies’ event was an elegant tea party held at The Bingham Estate, where 21 inspiring women gathered for a morning of connection, conversation, and appreciation. After pausing last year’s event during Sharon’s breast cancer diagnosis, this gathering carried even deeper meaning. Her strength and resilience made the occasion especially powerful—a celebration not only of community, but of support, perseverance, and the women who continue to lead it forward.

Omni PGA Frisco Delivers Pools, Golf Adventures, Glowing Nights, and Nonstop Family Fun

In Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa, summer unfolds as a carefully curated blend of relaxation and energy, designed with families in mind. A back-to-back Travel + Leisure World’s Best Award winner in 2024 and 2025, the resort has quickly become one of North Texas’s most dynamic destinations for multigenerational travel.
From the moment guests arrive, the tone is set for an easy, immersive getaway. Four expansive pools anchor the daytime experience, including resort-style pools with splash pads and cabanas ideal for families. While kids stay entertained poolside, adults can retreat to the serene sixth-floor adultsonly pool or recharge at Mokara Spa. With 13 dining venues ranging from casual bites to elevated cuisine, even the pickiest eaters find something to love.
“Summer here is about giving families the space to connect while offering something new around every corner,” says Monica Smiley, Director of Marketing, Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa. Monica adds that the goal is to create “a destination where every member of the family feels like the experience was designed just for them.”

That philosophy shines through in the resort’s summer programming, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weekends transform the PGA District into a lively hub of activity, beginning with Friday Night Movies under the stars. Saturdays bring the standout Summer of Glow Drone Show, where synchronized lights dance across the Texas sky in a vibrant, choreographed display.
Weekend evenings wind down with complimentary s’mores around the terrace fire pits, while younger guests get hands-on with cookie decorating workshops. “It’s those small, shared moments that families remember long after the trip ends,” shares Monica.
The fun continues poolside, where a tiki bar pop-up serves tropical-inspired cocktails, mocktails, and frozen treats perfect for cooling off under the Texas sun. This season also introduces the Summer Scoop, a sweet perk that gives registered guests with this package unlimited complimentary ice cream throughout their stay. Available for stays from May 25 through September 7, 2026, the offering is part of the resort’s Signature Summer Hotel Package.

Summer Highlights at Omni PGA Frisco Summer of Glow lights up weekends with drone shows, neon mini golf, fire pits, and spa treatments. The Summer Scoop Package adds unlimited ice cream at select outlets all stay long. Fourth of July brings fireworks, live music, movies, pool parties, kids’ activities, and rooftop viewing, creating a full lineup of festive, family friendly experiences.
Golf remains at the heart of the experience. Fields Ranch East, designed by Gil Hanse, offers a championship-level challenge that will host the 2027 PGA Championship, while Fields Ranch West, by Beau Welling, provides a more playful and approachable round.
Beyond traditional play, the resort reimagines golf as family-friendly entertainment. The Swing, a lighted 10-hole par-3 course, invites evening rounds, while The Dance Floor, a two-acre putting green, pairs casual competition with ice cream and social energy. Nearby, the PGA District buzzes with dining, retail, and interactive experiences, including Lounge by Topgolf and the PGA of America Coaching Center.
Accommodations are equally thoughtful, with more than 500 guest rooms and private ranch houses offering ample space for families to unwind. Whether it’s a quick weekend escape or an extended stay, the resort balances luxury with comfort in a way that feels effortless.
Holiday weekends elevate the experience even further. Over the Fourth of July, guests can enjoy fireworks on the fairway, live music, pool parties, and a rooftop viewing experience, all included for resort guests.
“At the end of the day, we want families to leave feeling like they discovered something special together,” says Monica. At Omni PGA Frisco, summer isn’t just a season. It’s a shared experience, filled with light, flavor, and connection.

A colorful destination rooted in community, creativity, and global fashion inspiration.
On McKinney’s historic downtown square, Cynthia Elliot Boutique stands as both a fashion destination and a testament to vision. Founded in 1990 by Cynthia Elliott VanLandingham and her husband Steve, the boutique began during a challenging economic period, when many storefronts sat empty. Together, they took what Cynthia calls a “leap of faith,” transforming a quiet corner of the square into a vibrant retail experience.
With a background in Fashion Design, Merchandising, and Art from Texas Tech University, Cynthia brought both training and instinct to the business. Early experience with Zale Corporation and boutique retail shaped her understanding of style and customer experience. After that first leap, Cynthia Elliot Boutique became part of the revitalization of downtown McKinney, inspiring other small businesses to follow.
Over the years, the boutique has grown from a modest 300-square-foot space into a beloved shopping destination known for its distinctive point of view. Cynthia curates collections that celebrate color, pattern, and artistry, sourcing pieces from around
the world. From tailored designs out of Spain to handcrafted accessories discovered during travels, every item reflects her passion for unique, expressive fashion.
Equally important is the experience inside the store. Cynthia emphasizes creating a welcoming environment where clients feel known and valued. “We treat our clients the way we want to be treated, with patience, honesty, and integrity,” says Cynthia. That philosophy has helped build a loyal following, with many customers returning for decades.
This year, that dedication was recognized when Cynthia Elliot Boutique was named McKinney’s Small Business of the Year. For Cynthia, the honor reflects more than business success. It celebrates lasting relationships built with clients, staff, and the community over 35 years.
As retail continues to evolve, Cynthia Elliot Boutique has embraced change, launching an online presence and expanding into live digital shopping experiences. Even so, its heart remains firmly rooted in community, creativity, and connection. Values that continue to define the boutique’s enduring legacy.

We took a leap of faith and created something joyful for our community to experience.

HISTORIC CHARM MEETS CURATED GATHERINGS IN STORYBOOK NORTH TEXAS SETTING.
ARTICLE BY ALEXIS JACOBS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY PARLOR PICTURE CO., KCDC PHOTOGRAPHY
Tucked into the heart of historic McKinney, The Bingham Estate offers a rare blend of preservation and imagination, where the past is honored while new memories unfold. The estate’s story begins in 1883, when Captain John Henry Bingham, a Civil War veteran and publisher of the McKinney Enquirer, built the main house for his family. With six children and a growing town around them, the Binghams became part of McKinney’s earliest chapters. Today, that same home remains the centerpiece of the estate, thoughtfully restored and surrounded by six cottages named after the

Bingham children. The result is an experience that feels both rooted in history and entirely transportive.
For owner Erika McWilliams, the vision was immediate. “I’ve always loved historic homes and preserving pieces of history, but when I walked onto the property it felt like something truly special,” says Erika McWilliams, Owner The Bingham Estate. “I immediately knew it had the potential to become a place where people could gather, slow down, and experience something beautiful.”
Inspired by the charm of Charleston, South Carolina, Erika set out to create a Southern-inspired retreat in North Texas. Working alongside residential designer Mark McReynolds and interiors by Sidewalk Dreamery, each cottage was designed with intention, reflecting the personality of a Bingham child while maintaining a cohesive, elevated aesthetic.
Over time, that vision has expanded beyond design into experience. “It’s really become a place for connection, whether that’s a quiet weekend, a retreat, or a special celebration with close friends,” says Erika.
The estate now welcomes a wide range of gatherings. From girlfriends’ getaways and mahjong weekends to curated tea parties hosted with Chef Donna of the Jelly Queens, the property is designed to bring people together. Guests often reserve multiple cottages, or the entire estate, allowing for both privacy and shared moments.
Preserving the integrity of the original home remained central throughout the transformation. “The goal was never to change the soul of the property but to restore it and build around it in a way that feels authentic,”

explains Erika. That philosophy is evident in every detail, where historic charm meets modern comfort through features like soaking tubs, fireplaces, and thoughtfully designed interiors. Beyond the estate itself, local partnerships enhance the guest experience. Collaborations with small businesses and creatives throughout McKinney allow visitors to connect not only with the property, but with the community that surrounds it. Because of its intimate scale, planning ahead is key. “We recommend booking several months in advance, especially for weekends or group gatherings,” notes Erika. The process begins with a personalized inquiry, ensuring each stay reflects the group’s vision.
What ultimately sets The Bingham Estate apart is its ability to transport. With gardens, gathering spaces, a pool, pickleball court, and a charming tearoom, the property offers more than accommodations. It offers atmosphere.
“My hope is that when people visit The Bingham Estate, they feel like they’ve stepped into a story,” says Erika. “It’s a place where people can slow down, enjoy beautiful surroundings, and make lasting memories together.”

A simple collective model empowers women to fund meaningful change across McKinney nonprofits each year.
ARTICLE BY ALEXIS JACOBS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LORENA BALAGUER, LOVELYN PHOTOGRAPHY
Founded on the idea that collective giving can transform a community, 100 Women of McKinney has become a powerful force for local change. The organization brings together women who are passionate about supporting nonprofits and strengthening their city.
“It’s a girls’ night out with a purpose,” says Monica Szewczyk, executive board member. “We gather once a year, hear from three charities, and vote to decide where our collective gift will go.”
Each member contributes $100, creating a pooled donation that often exceeds $10,000 for a single organization. The model is intentionally simple, yet its impact is significant, providing both funding and visibility for local causes.
Monica helps secure event locations and sponsors, working alongside a collaborative team. “We all bring different strengths, and that makes everything we do stronger,” she says.
Since its founding in 2017, the group has supported a wide range of nonprofits, many of which have grown significantly after receiving funds and exposure. From grassroots outreach to established community programs, the ripple effect continues year after year.
What sets 100 Women of McKinney apart is its welcoming, no-membership approach. “You simply show up, bring your $100, and be part of something bigger,” explains Monica. The organization also reflects a diverse mix of women, united by a shared goal of giving back.
Originally founded as 100 Women of Eldorado, the group expanded as interest grew across McKinney. Today, it stands as a testament to what happens when women come together. “It’s uplifting, it’s fun, and it truly makes a difference,” says Monica. “When women unite, the impact is incredible.”

With no ongoing dues or long-term commitments, the barrier to entry remains low, encouraging first-time participants and longtime supporters alike. Annual events double as social gatherings, fostering connection while directing meaningful resources to those who need them most. For many, it is philanthropy made approachable, impactful, and deeply personal for all.

The Jelly Queens blends handcrafted preserves, culinary creativity, storytelling, and refined community-driven tea experiences.
What began as a playful challenge has evolved into a celebrated culinary brand built on creativity, craftsmanship, and connection. The Jelly Queens, founded by Donna Collins, Founder and CEO of The Jelly Queens, is known for its award-winning preserves and thoughtfully curated tea experiences, but its origin story is as unexpected as its flavors.
“The Jelly Queens began in the most unexpected way after my appearance on Season 2 of MasterChef,” says Donna. What started as a champagne jelly created on the show quickly sparked curiosity among friends. During a watch party, someone asked if she could make jelly from beer. That simple question turned into a defining moment. “I went home, got to work, and returned the following week with 21 different beer jellies and jams,” she says. “The response was immediate and overwhelming.”
That moment marked the beginning of a brand that has since earned 43 world awards.
Donna’s path to The Jelly Queens was anything but linear. With a background spanning art, feng shui, and culinary work, she has always approached her craft as a form of creative expression. “I’ve always thought of myself first and foremost as a maker,” explains Donna. “Every chapter of my career has simply been another form of art.” That perspective is evident in every jar, where flavor, color, and texture are carefully balanced to create not just a product, but an experience.
ARTICLE BY ALEXIS JACOBS | PHOTOGRAPHY
PROVIDED BY CHEF DONNA COLLINS
That same philosophy extends beyond the kitchen and into The Jelly Queens’ signature tea events, an essential part of the brand’s identity. These gatherings grew organically from Donna’s creative circle, particularly through her collaboration with close friend and fellow creative, Darlene Leiker. Together, they launched Tea & Art = TART, a series of themed tea parties that celebrate friendship, artistry, and culinary innovation.
“When artistic women come together, beautiful things tend to happen,” says Donna. “Darlene and I combine our talents to create experiences that are elegant, thoughtful, and always a little bit magical.” Each event features curated menus where The Jelly Queens’ preserves are woven into pastries, savory bites, and sweets, creating a cohesive and immersive experience.
Hosted in charming settings like the Bingham Estate, these tea gatherings attract a wide and diverse audience. Guests range in age from young children to centenarians, all drawn by a shared desire

to slow down and savor meaningful moments. “In a world that feels rushed, people are looking for a place to pause,” explains Donna. “They come for the flavors, but they stay for the atmosphere. No drama, just kindness and good company.” Often, guests linger long after the final cup is poured, prompting Donna and Darlene to introduce post-tea classes focused on etiquette, cooking, and creative skills.
Despite the brand’s growth and recognition, Donna has remained committed to preserving its integrity. Every jar is still made by hand, using traditional methods and carefully selected ingredients. “We explored scaling, but it meant compromising

the recipes,” she says. “That didn’t align with what we stand for.” For Donna, the awards have served as validation that authenticity and craftsmanship still resonate.
Looking ahead, The Jelly Queens continues to expand its storytelling through new avenues, including an upcoming cookbook and future literary projects. At the same time, Donna and Darlene are dreaming up new experiences, from themed camps like Granny Camp and Etiquette Camp to continued tea events that celebrate creativity and connection.
“For me, The Jelly Queens has never just been about preserves,” shares Donna. “It’s about creating beautiful experiences, sharing stories, and leaving behind something sweet for others to enjoy.” TheJellyQueens.com

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”
