CUSTOM PUTTING GREENS ELEVATE OUTDOOR LIVING ACROSS DALLAS AREA
In a region where golf culture runs deep and outdoor living is part of everyday life, DFW Turf Pros is helping homeowners rethink what their backyards can be. Known for luxury artificial turf and a strong focus on service, the company has seen growing demand for custom backyard putting greens that blend recreation, design, and long-term value.
ARTICLE BY ALEXIS JACOBS
What started as a way to meet different household preferences has evolved into a sought-after offering. “We always say it is like bacon and eggs,” says Marc Freidberg, Owner. “Some people want a beautiful low maintenance

yard, and others want a place to play. When you bring both together, it creates the perfect outdoor space.”
That balance is especially appealing in North Texas, where golf is woven into the community. With major tournaments and the PGA headquarters drawing attention to the area, more homeowners are looking for ways to bring that experience home. From casual players to serious golfers, the appeal is broad. “Our customers range from families with kids who want to learn the game to avid golfers who want to practice every day,” says Marc. “It also becomes a great space for entertaining. People just want a backyard that feels complete.”
Convenience is a big part of the appeal. A personal putting green removes the need for tee times or travel, letting homeowners practice whenever they want. DFW Turf Pros enhances that experience with thoughtful features, including innovative cup technology that allows golf balls to be retrieved without bending down, as well as aluminum and steel construction for durability. Lighting options add another layer, with LED cups that can change colors and extend play into the evening. “We want it to feel like a true experience, not just a surface in the yard,” shares Marc.
Customization is at the heart of every project. Designs can start as small as a simple green and expand into a multi hole layout with chipping areas. Each installation is tailored to the space, skill level, and vision of the homeowner.
“We can create anything from a small practice area to a full backyard course,” explains Marc. “The goal is to design something that looks great and plays even better.”

Beyond recreation, the investment carries longterm benefits. Artificial turf requires minimal upkeep, saving time and eliminating the need for mowing or fertilizing. It also maintains its appearance yearround, an advantage in the Texas climate. “It is one of those upgrades that makes your home stand out,” says Marc. “It looks clean, it adds function, and it gives future buyers something they will remember.”
DFW Turf Pros backs that value with a 25-year warranty, a five-year labor warranty, and a maintenance plan that keeps each installation looking its best. For Marc, the real difference comes down to how customers are treated. “We focus on being responsive, professional, and easy to work with. If we can keep the process simple and deliver exactly what someone imagined, that is what matters most.”
As interest continues to grow across the area, one thing is clear. Backyard putting greens are no longer a niche upgrade. They are becoming a defining feature of modern outdoor living.

Owner Jay Ericson

TruBlue Home Service Ally Provides Trusted Home Repairs, Home Upgrades, and Senior Safety Home Modifications
After more than two decades in corporate consulting, TruBlue Home Service Ally owner Jay Ericson was ready for a change that felt more personal. His career had long centered on improving operations, systems, and workflows for businesses, but he found himself wanting something closer to home, both literally and figuratively.
That shift led to the launch of his TruBlue Home Service Ally franchise, now serving Frisco, Prosper, and Celina and surrounding areas. Rooted in service, trust, and community connection, the business reflects both his professional background and deeply personal experiences.
“I was looking for something where I could really have a direct impact on people in my next chapter,” says Jay. “After years in consulting, I wanted to be closer to the community and provide something meaningful.”
That meaning comes from more than just business ambition. Jay’s path to TruBlue was shaped by his own family’s experience. Losing both of his parents at a relatively young age, he saw firsthand the challenges seniors face when trying to maintain independence at home. Falls and mobility
issues became a reality, highlighting how critical safe living environments truly are.
“I lost both my parents in my 40s, and they each struggled with falls that impacted their independence,” says Jay. “That experience really stayed with me and pushed me toward focusing on senior safety.”
Today, that mission is central to everything TruBlue offers. While the company provides a wide range of home repair and improvement services, from drywall and painting to kitchen upgrades and fence repairs, its focus on aging in place sets it apart. As a Certified Senior Home Safety Specialist and Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist, Jay brings both expertise and empathy to every project.
“Seniors want to stay in their homes, and most homes are not set up for safely aging in place” says Jay. “We can assess those risks and make modifications that help people live safely and confidently.”
Those modifications can include installing grab bars, reducing thresholds, updating bathrooms with walk in showers, and applying anti slip surfaces. Combined with general maintenance and repair services, TruBlue becomes a single, reliable partner for homeowners who want peace of mind.

“
Helping seniors stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home is at the heart of everything.

Trust is a cornerstone of that relationship. All TruBlue technicians are background checked, bonded, and insured, and they are trained specifically in senior home safety. For many homeowners, especially older adults, that level of accountability is essential.
“One of the biggest concerns people have is letting someone into their home,” explains Jay. “We have built a model where trust, safety, and professionalism are not optional, they are standard.”
Beyond individual homes, Jay is also committed to building partnerships within the local community. Jay partners with Frisco Family Services to provide free senior home safety education, and as an active committee member for the Aging and Disability Resource Center in North Texas, he is working to connect with organizations that share a similar mission.
“I want to scale support for the aging in place community,” shares Jay. “That means building relationships, understanding needs, and being a resource people can rely on.”

For Jay, TruBlue is more than a business. It is a way to combine his professional experience with a purpose that matters on a daily basis. Every repair, modification, and maintenance visit becomes an opportunity to make someone’s life a little easier and a lot safer, while giving families added confidence and reassurance in their loved ones’ environments.
“At the end of the day, this is about helping people protect their homes and the people inside them,” says Jay. “If we can do that well, everything else falls into place.”

In the heart of downtown Prosper, a new restaurant is preparing to open its doors with a concept rooted in history, hospitality and community. 1902 takes its name from the year the Town of Prosper was established, a detail that reflects both its inspiration and its purpose.
“When I learned of the opportunity to acquire the building at 209 West Broadway in downtown Prosper, I knew immediately that I wanted to create a special culinary and hospitality experience that paid tribute to the history and the people that makes Prosper so special,” says Jason Young, Owner. “1902 felt like the perfect way to represent all that we were pouring into this effort while honoring those that brought us to now.”
For Jason, the opening of 1902 is not just a new business venture, but the continuation of a long-standing connection to North Texas. After relocating to Frisco in 2004 with Nordstrom, he spent years serving the region before transitioning out of the corporate world to build Verona Villa, an event venue known for its elevated service and community focus.
“After relocating to Frisco in 2004 with Nordstrom, I’ve spent years serving the North Texas community,” says Jason. “With so many of our customers in Prosper, I’ve always been aware of the strong sense of community and Prosper Pride. When this location became available, it was the perfect opportunity to create the restaurant experience it deserves.”
That sense of place is central to the vision behind 1902. Positioned in the historic downtown, the restaurant is designed to complement the existing fabric of the area while contributing to its continued growth.
“I believe that downtowns are the heartbeat of every community,” shares Jason. “They are the place for the intersection of business, gathering, giving and where the community can truly come together. My wish is that our new establishment can both
complement the tremendous businesses that existed prior, honor the history of the community as well as encourage other people to bring their investment and ideas to continue to make downtown special. We hope that we can play a role in lifting all boats as downtown continues to flourish.”
At the center of the dining experience is a menu led by Chief Operating Officer and Culinary Director Chef Amy DiBiase, whose approach blends elevated comfort with thoughtful sourcing and bold flavors.
“One of our main goals is to introduce our COO and Culinary Director Chef Amy DiBiase to the people of Prosper and surrounding areas,” says Jason. “She is a culinary giant that has created an amazing menu that I believe people will flock to.”
Guests can expect a wide range of offerings, from appetizers like steak tartare, oysters and ham and cheese hush puppies to composed salads and hearty entrées. The menu will also feature quality steaks, alongside signature dishes such as a French dip sandwich, rotisserie chicken, house-made pastas and a bourbon and brown sugar glazed Kan Kan pork chop. The menu is designed to appeal to both casual diners and those seeking a more elevated night out.
“We are a food-first concept that prioritizes amazing hospitality. But it all starts with having delicious, fresh, best sourced ingredients paired with amazing beverage program and impeccable service,” explains Jason.
Beyond the menu, the physical space itself is a major part of the experience. The restaurant spans 8,000 square feet indoors, paired with a 3,500 square foot rooftop patio that offers a dynamic setting for everything from casual gatherings to special occasions. Inside, guests will find a lively bar, a comfortable booth-filled dining room and an intimate speakeasy designed for late-night experiences.

“1902 was created to honor Prosper’s past while building a place for gathering, connection, and memorable dining experiences for all.”
“From our carefully crafted menu to the rooftop patio, every detail was designed with intention, creating a space where guests can celebrate, unwind, and experience hospitality that reflects the heart of Prosper.”

“We are taking advantage of the 8,000 square feet of interior space as well as our 3,500 square foot rooftop patio to create excitement and a reason to visit often,” says Jason.
While the concept is elevated, the focus remains firmly on community. The team envisions 1902 as a place where Prosper residents, along with visitors from surrounding areas, can gather regularly.
“Our core guests will be Prosper residents as well as friends and family and others visiting from surrounding communities,” says Jason. “We look forward to showing all the best of what Prosper has to offer.”
After months of planning and development, the restaurant is nearing the moment it will welcome guests, marking the beginning of what Jason hopes will be a lasting presence in downtown Prosper.
“It has been an amazing journey putting this concept together and while it has taken us slightly longer than originally planned, the product we are ready to welcome our guests to experience exceeds expectations,” says Jason. “We absolutely cannot wait to have you with us whether it is a dinner out with the family during the week or a special occasion you are celebrating with loved ones. 1902 was conceptualized for you.”

Cornerstone NCT Blends Financial Help, Mentoring, and Community Events to Prevent Homelessness Locally
ARTICLE BY ALEXIS JACOBS
In Prosper and surrounding communities, Cornerstone Assistance Network NCT is quietly changing outcomes for families facing financial strain.
“We empower our neighbors in need through relationships and comprehensive services,” says Elizabeth Johnston, Senior Director of Growth and Advancement.
The nonprofit partners with families in crisis, helping pay monthly utility bills while providing life coaching that builds long-term stability. “By listening and identifying the root cause, we personalize solutions and hold people accountable for improving their lives,” says Elizabeth. On average, families are in the program for about four months and receive roughly $1,500 in support.
Cornerstone also supports children through two hallmark programs: Back to School Bash and Cornerstone Christmas. “When families struggle, kids’ needs are often missed, so we step in to help with dignity and fun,” says Elizabeth. Each year, hundreds of children receive backpacks, school supplies, new shoes, and a complete Christmas including gifts, stockings, food, and a warm hoodie.
Founded after local leader Jennifer Lutes felt called to act, the organization adopted a holistic model that addresses causes, not just symptoms. Today, it serves Prosper, McKinney, Celina, Frisco, Gunter, and Aubrey, supporting both blue-collar workers and executives alike. “Struggle knows no bias,” adds Elizabeth.
Community support powers the mission through volunteers, donations, and partnerships. This August, the Annual Cornerstone Golf Tournament at Fields Ranch– Omni PGA Frisco invites sponsors and players to fund the financial assistance program while enjoying a premier course experience.

“Events like our tournament rally the community and directly support families working toward self-sufficiency,” says Elizabeth.
For residents looking to help, opportunities range from mentoring families to hosting supply drives and volunteering at seasonal events. “Compassion, consistency, and a willingness to listen can change a trajectory,” shares Elizabeth.
Cornerstone pairs immediate relief with practical coaching to help families avoid repeat crises, stay housed, and rebuild independence. As a result, children walk into school more confident and prepared, helping create stronger, more stable communities across North Texas over time.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST
Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short
Creative Director: Jen Birn
Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill
Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX
MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.
After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.
Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?
A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?
A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”
This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.

In speaking to Whiskey lovers (most happen to be men, but do accept me in their brethren as a fellow enthusiast, writer, and educator), I’ve learned a great many opinions on how to drink Whiskey. Specifically, preferences on adding water and ice vary greatly.
A brand ambassador that I had the privilege of listening to recently said the obvious: both dilution and temperature change when you add ice, so if you are going to add something, a little water is best. I personally prefer to use a water dropper, so I can add one drop at a time until I get to the desired taste.
