Health & Wellness Guidance

For many of us, this time of year is full of excitement. It presents us with a reset, new horizons and goals to pursue. But for others, January can be a reminder of failed or unfinished attempts from years past and the burden of expectation that 2025 will be different.

We approached this edition of the magazine from a mindset of not supplying quick fixes to check boxes in the short term, but valuing efforts that are sustainable over the long haul. We wanted to provide inspiration for making lasting, realistic, long-term improvements to everyone's physical, emotional and mental health.

When it comes to anything in life, including business, finances, food, home and personal health, it’s not what you do some days that move the needle. It’s what you do MOST days. For better or worse! It’s not the sometimes choices we make, it’s the most of the time choices that will punctuate this new year.

And, it’s what you choose to do most days that can lead to a more peaceful, filling and fabulous year.

Here’s to you! We’re rooting for you.

D1 Training Prosper Delivers Athletic-Based Fitness With Cutting-Edge Programs, Personalized Support For Athletes Of All Ages

Performance.

Character. Community.

D1 Training Prosper, located at 100 S. Preston Road, opened on July 15, 2024, bringing an elite training facility to the heart of the community, marking the arrival of the sports-science-backed fitness concept that’s redefining what it means to train like an athlete.

The facility operates under the leadership of Kevin and Jen Hanks, lifelong Texans and Prosper residents for the last decade, with a strong commitment to the local community. “Being able to work with both the youth and adults to achieve their athletic goals allows us to give them that edge in whatever sport

they’re looking to take part in,” Kevin shares. “With D1, we not only get to help them grow in their sports, but we’re able to work with children on their character to be the best student-athletes they can be.”

D1 Training isn’t known as being a typical gym. The franchise offers group fitness programs built around five core tenets of athletic-based training: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool-down. Every training session is led by certified coaches, ensuring athletes of all ages and abilities can reach their goals.

Programs are tailored to four age groups: Rookie (ages 7–11), Developmental (ages 12–14), Prep (ages 15–18), and D1 Adult. Additionally, D1 offers one-on-one and semi-private training, team training and specialized in-season and off-season programs. The focus is on helping participants of all fitness levels achieve their personal “edge” in athletics or overall wellness.

“Our D1 Adult Program and Rookie program for ages 7–11 have been the most popular so far,” says Jen. “It’s amazing to see such a diverse range of people coming together to work toward their goals.”

While D1 is known for its high-performance training programs, Jen and Kevin emphasize that their mission goes toward more than

physical fitness. “Beyond the weights and the turf, D1 Prosper is unapologetically committed to helping create your best trajectory in life, building athletes of character,” Kevin explains.

“Positive mentorship is at the heart of everything we do to build confidence and resilience in every athlete, at every age.”

The Hanks’ dedication to mentorship and community aligns with the broader mission of D1 Training. The franchise has more than 100 locations open, and more in development, with a roster of owners that includes professional athletes such as Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, Tim Tebow and Michael Oher.

Jen adds, “Our members start as names on a roster, but they quickly become part of a family. Our mission isn’t complete until we’ve positively influenced every life we touch.”

“OUR GOAL IS TO BE THE GO-TO SPOT FOR ATHLETES TO TRAIN, SET AND ACHIEVE GOALS, ELEVATE THEIR LIVES AND

INSPIRE OTHERS,” SAYS KEVIN HANKS. “WE WANT TO POSITIVELY IMPACT AS MANY LIVES AS WE CAN AND BE PART OF A TRANSFORMATIVE JOURNEY.”

Prosper, with its growing population and strong focus on youth athletics, proved to be the perfect location for D1 Training. Centrally located and easily accessible, the facility serves as a hub for student-athletes and adult members seeking a transformative fitness experience.

“As we continue to grow, we’re adding more class times to accommodate busy schedules. Our goal is to become the go-to place for athletes to train, set goals, reach goals and level up their lives,” Kevin says.

The Hanks say they have big plans for the future of D1 Training in Prosper. In addition to expanding their class offerings, they aim to foster a culture of achievement and support that leaves a lasting impact on the community.

“Every day, we hear from members about how our coaching staff is changing lives both on and off the turf,” says Jen. “We want D1 Prosper to be a pivotal part of people’s journeys, a place they’ll look back on as a game-changer in their lives.”

D1 Training’s mantra is simple yet powerful:  Athlete = anyone with a goal. Whether someone is training for a sport, recovering from an injury or working toward a healthier lifestyle, Jens says the D1 Prosper staff welcomes them to join its community.

“At D1 Prosper, you’re joining a team, not just another gym,” Kevin emphasizes. “Every training session is expertly coach-led and results-driven. Let’s hit the turf together—we’ll meet you at the door.”

D1 Training Prosper is open six days a week, offering flexible scheduling for every lifestyle. Whether a parent looking to build a child’s athletic foundation, a student-athlete aiming for the next level, or an adult seeking a supportive community, the Hanks vow that D1 Prosper can help reach those goals.

TIPS FOR STARTING STRONG IN 2025

With the New Year approaching, the D1 Training Prosper team shares three essential steps to kickstart your fitness journey:

Hydrate: Drink water before workouts to prevent dehydration and optimize performance.

Fuel Your Body: Eat a balanced meal or snack 1–2 hours before exercising for sustained energy and muscle support.

Warm-Up: Spend 5-10 minutes doing dynamic stretches and light cardio to prepare bodies and reduce the risk of injuries.

YogaSix McKinney Classes Offered At Two Convenient Locations

ARTICLE BY ALEXIS JACOBS | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY YOGASIX

Located in McKinney, YogaSix has become known as a hub for health and wellness in North Texas. With two locations—YogaSix West McKinney, established in August 2020, and YogaSix North McKinney, which opened in January 2023—the franchise’s managers say they are redefining the yoga experience to be accessible, interactive and welcoming to all.

YogaSix offers six core classes tailored to practitioners of all levels: Y6 101, Y6 Restore, Y6 Slow Flow, Y6 Hot, Y6 Power and Y6 Sculpt & Flow. These classes are designed to enhance strength, agility, flexibility and balance through dynamic movements, targeted stretches and accessible modifications. Each class is held in a warm-to-hot environment, which supports muscle elasticity and joint health, ensuring what the originators indicate is a safe, effective practice.

Those seeking relaxation can enjoy classes focused on stretching and mindfulness, while high-energy options cater to individuals aiming to build stamina and endurance.

“With six distinct class types, there’s something for everyone. Our classes are both challenging and fun, ensuring a positive experience for all,” says Jessica Ware, general manager of YogaSix West McKinney. “Whether you’re looking to align your body, build stability or increase confidence, the variety of classes caters to all fitness goals. The heated environment enhances recovery and mobility while helping participants achieve a deeper connection between mind and body.”

Jessica notes that two classes stand out as member favorites: Hot Yoga and Sculpt & Flow.

Hot Yoga, conducted in a room heated to 100-105 degrees, features a set sequence that helps practitioners build muscle memory, track progress and improve endurance. Sculpt & Flow combines yoga poses with high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in a room heated to 85-90 degrees. Jessica says this dynamic blend of strength training and yoga provides a full-body workout that tones muscles, boosts metabolism and enhances flexibility and balance.

“These classes provide members with a dynamic, results-driven experience,” explains Jessica. “From increased muscle tone to a greater range of motion, members consistently share positive feedback about their progress.”

The atmosphere at both McKinney locations is set up to be vibrant, welcoming and full of positive energy. YogaSix studios are designed to feel like a home away from home, a space where individuals can unwind, recharge and interact with others. “Our community is one of

connection and encouragement,” Jessica adds. “Whether you’re new or experienced, you’ll feel embraced and inspired by others on similar wellness journeys.”

YogaSix is equally committed to maintaining immaculate, thoughtfully designed spaces that enhance the yoga experience. From the soothing ambiance to the cleanliness of the studios, every detail is crafted to support members’ wellness. “You can focus on what truly matters: your well-being and growth,” says Caterina Sica, marketing assistant for YogaSix.

YogaSix’s mission is to make yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age, experience or fitness level. Jessica states that instructors are trained in the YogaSix methodology, ensuring each class type delivers a consistent yet creative experience. Instructors lead each class, offering modifications and progressions tailored to individual needs. She says the staff is dedicated to helping members find the class that best aligns with their goals, providing personalized guidance and support.

One of the defining features of YogaSix is its holistic approach to wellness. Each class integrates physical movement with mindful breathing and mental focus, creating a blend of fitness and mindfulness. This approach helps members stay present, release stress and build deeper connections between mind and body.

“YogaSix nurtures a sense of balance and clarity,” says Jessica. “Our goal is to help members achieve overall well-being, both physically and mentally.”

YogaSix offers a sensory yoga experience that is accessible to all, believing that everyone deserves the mind-body benefits of yoga. By providing energizing, empowering and fun classes, YogaSix aims to deliver life-enhancing benefits. YogaSix West McKinney, 3041 S. “McKinney’s vibrant culture and growth make it the perfect place to build inclusive, connected fitness communities,” says Jessica Ware, general manager of YogaSix West McKinney.

Caterina emphasizes that what sets YogaSix apart from other fitness studios in McKinney is its unique focus on accessibility and empowerment. She says the studio fosters a non-intimidating environment where individuals feel comfortable and supported in their yoga journey. Caterina shares: “We aim to provide an environment where people feel supported and inspired to reach their goals.”

YogaSix’s impact is evident in the testimonials from members. Jessica shares that many members report significant improvements in strength, flexibility and overall well-being. Classes, such as Sculpt & Flow, are particularly praised for boosting muscle tone and endurance, while regular practice has helped others reduce stiffness and improve mental clarity.

Ultimately, the stated mission of both these YogaSix studios is to empower individuals to live healthier, happier lives through accessible and innovative yoga practices. “No matter your age or fitness level, you’ll find a safe and supportive environment at YogaSix,” Caterina concludes.

In general, health professionals assert that yoga helps with long-term wellness goals in that yoga regimens help manage stress, encourage better sleep, promote better heart health, improve energy, boost mental moods, help balance metabolism, aid digestion and provide pain relief.

“Our members feel stronger, more flexible, and more balanced in both body and mind,” says Jessica. “The supportive community and amazing staff are key factors in their success.”

EAT YOUR WAY Around the Globe

Exploring culture through food

Food has always been at the forefront of humanity; after all, we need it to survive. But as people and trade developed, food has become so much more than survival. It has become an art in itself. Some areas hold onto tradition and nostalgia while incorporating new ideas and other cultural influences. If one truly wishes to experience the culture, there’s no better way to dive right in than over a meal.

Paso Robles, California Allegretto

Tucked into the rolling hills of Paso Robles, California, sits the Allegretto Winery and Resort. A unique hotel curated to showcase art worldwide and give visitors a relaxing, spiritual stay.

The Cello Restaurant & Bar is open all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lunch menu highlights were the Muffuletta sandwich, Tuscan style, served with sun-dried tomato hummus, pistachio mortadella, salami Toscana, mozzarella cheese, roasted tomatoes, baby arugula, cello olive tapenade, and a house-made ciabatta roll.

For dinner, plates of miso-crusted bay salmon served with ginger butter as well as their 8-ounce certified black Angus filet mignon, oak pit grilled, seasonal vegetables, dauphinoise potato, red wine Demiglaze with a horseradish mascarpone.

Ending the night with dessert, a “triple chocolate bomb,” a chocolate soufflé cake, raspberry dark chocolate mousse, framboise scented ganache, toasted almonds, fresh raspberries, and white chocolate curls.

Aruba

Manchebo Beach Resort & Spa, located at Eagle Beach, boasts the biggest private beach on the island. Here, there are four different restaurants on the property, each cultivating unique aspects of Aruba’s culture, encompassed by their famous Aruban hospitality.

Ike’s Bistro

Ike’s Bistro, open for breakfast and dinner, is an open-air location boasting a huge Mediterranean-inspired menu.

Menu highlights feature their homemade chia pudding made with coconut milk, chia seeds, agave, homemade granola, and berries, and a variety of smoothie bowls featuring the açaí peanut butter bowl - made with açaí smoothie, freshly sliced banana, granola, seasonal berries, and peanut butter.

For dinner, some of our favorite highlights were the Filet Mignon, 6-ounces of beef served with mashed potatoes, vegetables, porcini mushroom sauce, and homemade chimichurri, and the Vegan Steak and Shrimp, which was made out of lentil steak with grilled New Wave shrimp served with potato wedges, steamed broccoli, and sesame-ginger glaze.

The Chophouse

While the atmosphere on Manchebo creates a feel of casual relaxation, for those looking for a more elegant evening, there is The Chophouse.

The star of The Chophouse and our favorite server was Harold Rasmijn, who received the Caribbean Employee of the Year Award in 2018.

Aruba, Harold Making Banana Foster

Menu highlights were the lamb chops, marinated with garlic and herbs from Manchebo’s herb garden, and the Almond Grouper - a pan-seared grouper served with potato puree, green beans, and coconut white wine sauce.

Harold completes the experience by serving a special dessert of banana foster which he makes table-side for a spectacular end-ofthe-night show.

Venice, Italy

Venetian cuisine is characterized by its fresh seafood; however, Venetian people take pride in making food with fresh meats, fish, fruit, and locally sourced vegetables.

Body Fit Training Delivers 50-minute Functional Training And Strength-Based Program In McKinney

Cardio U. Hyper. XTX. Pump. Balanced. Strength Endurance. Power. Beast Mode. Among these Body Fit Training fitness classes in McKinney are coach-led options that complement various wellness goals. In essence, members indicate it’s like having the benefits of personal trainers in a small group setting.

Body Fit Training, located at 7560 State Highway 121, Ste. 300, is a 50-minute total body workout, backed by science, tracked by technology and inspired by certified trainers to transform bodies, minds and lives.

“We believe Body Fit Training is the most well-rounded fitness modality out there, providing both positive mental and physical results,” says BFT McKinney general manager Jake Shaver.

BFT coaches say programming goals are to challenge energy systems, train every muscle fiber type, and work through different planes of movement. Designed by an elite strength conditioning coach, it’s a program originally developed for athletes, now accessible for all fitness levels.

This training facility opened during February 2023. The studio offers 14 different classes that range in intensity and include cardio, strength training, hybrid resistance training and mobility. Classes are led by two to three coaches and intentionally cater to a variety of fitness levels.

Jake says BFT’s revolutionary progressive programming builds lean muscle and

reduces body fat. He adds that classes follow eight- to 11-week programs, however, participants can start at any time because trainers meet with first-timers before their first class to conduct a Body Composition Scan and to discuss fitness backgrounds, injury histories and current goals so they can be paired with the best-match class. Movements in the classes also are modified if necessary for individual circumstances.

“As a fitness enthusiast, the BFT workout has supported my continued growth with fun but challenging strength and cardio training in a community of like-minded individuals,” says Jake. “The coaches hold me just as accountable as the members during workouts.”

A BFT trial offer provides potential members the opportunity to experience multiple classes to give them an example of the facility’s progressive programming. Jake shares that BFT members take classes at least four to five times per week, which he says is far higher than other fitness concepts.

“Committing to a fitness program can be intimidating to new members, but the BFT team is your teammate in the process, providing motivation, support and guidance in and out of the studio. Many members are busy professionals or parents with limited free time to prioritize their needs,” states Jake.

He says the studio’s inclusive community celebrates wins along the journey as well as the destination.

For competitive gym enthusiasts and former pro athletes, BFT also is a training facility for HYROX global events, which are high-intensity, hybrid fitness races that tackle eight exercise stations, with each preceded by a 1-kilometer/0.62-mile run. HYROX tests participants’ strength, endurance and overall fitness.

“Most new members ask why BFT is different from other fitness concepts. To me, it’s simple: Give me 8 weeks, and you’ll see the transformation to your mobility, strength, confidence and sleep. Not only will you feel the changes, we can also show you your progress with our heart rate monitor system tracking, monthly body composition scans and live adjustments during class,” explains Jake.

BFT is a global boutique fitness brand with 300-plus studios worldwide. The business was founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2017, and is headquartered in Irvine, California. BFT is a part of Xponential Fitness, a global franchisor of health and wellness brands across a variety of verticals, including pilates, barre, cycling, dance, yoga, boxing, strength training, stretching and metabolic health. Xponential has 3,000-plus global locations.

Adventure Awaits

Chance Adventure Co gives families the freedom to hit the open road in classic style.

Kelley and Sam Chance have it figured out when it comes to spending quality family time together with their two young sons, Sully, 9, and Grady, 7. They literally took a chance in 2013 and bought Stella, a 1984 Airstream Excella, as a renovation project. One family camping trip and they were hooked. Now they are true vintage Airstream enthusiasts.

They sold Stella, but the “silver bullet” calling never left and Chance Adventure Co was born. Sam had talked for years about renovating and renting Airstreams.

“There’s something magical about those silver trailers, especially the old ones. They have such character, and many stories within their aluminum walls.”

“Once the pandemic hit, it was now or never,” Kelley says. “We welcomed Carolina into our family, a 1983 31’ Excella, and she’s been rocking out camping trips with us and our clients since early last year. In 2020, she traveled to Yellowstone, Glacier, the Badlands, Upper Peninsula in Michigan, Indiana Dunes, Kannapolis, Kansas and more. Georgia, a 1978 31’ Sovereign Land Yacht, is currently being renovated from the frame up.”

They will be adding to their fleet soon and are adding an Airstream Renovation Workshop on their Tonganoxie property. They also have the Chance Adventure Co shop, loaded with outdoorsy inspired items.

Adventure is a part of life for this active couple, who live on 10 acres. They have horses, garden, hike, bike and explore.

“By far, our favorite thing to do as a family is travel and spend time outdoors. We hiked the three miles roundtrip, 480-foot climb to Delicate Arch when the boys were 8 and 5, biked through the Badlands, kayaking Lake Michigan. We’ve had so many incredible experiences connecting the four of us, and connecting us to nature via camping,” she says. “The boys have learned a deep appreciation and love for Mother Earth, to navigate the terrain using a compass or their own wits, to identify and care for the flora and fauna around us, and they’ve gained so much confidence and courage through it all.”

Each trailer is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each rental. Airstreams are available for rental for road trips, or they can deliver and set up at local locations.

“There’s something magical about those silver trailers, especially the old ones. They have such character, and many stories within their aluminum walls,” she says. “Making them a part of our family story just made sense.”

smart SWEETS

The beginning of the year is packed with inspiration and motivation to get back on track after a sweet-filled holiday season. It can feel extreme, and it also can be depleting to cut oneself off from everything indulgent after weeks of eating favorite sweet and savory recipes. For sugar lovers who believe going cold-turkey feels intimidating or overwhelming, nutrition-packed desserts are a great way to stick to healthy food goals without the guilt.

Nutrient-Rich Dessert To The Rescue

Frozen PEANUT BUTTER Bites

Danger ahead: this snack is amazing. It’s the easiest of the bunch and also satisfies a sweet tooth craving. This can be whipped together in just 5 minutes and makes just a small amount. Feel free to take creative liberty here with your amounts, but if you make it to this recipe, they are around 90 calories per bite.

1. Cut a banana into 8-10 small slices, around 1/2 inch each.

2. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter (or your choice of nut butter) on each banana slice.

3. Drizzle a small amount of melted chocolate chips or caramel over each bite.

4. Freeze for 15-20 minutes and enjoy!

Pro tip: A dash of sea salt flakes on top of these can be *chef’s kiss.*

These are great to keep on hand in the freezer all weeklong. Once they set, add them to a closed container to keep the bananas from browning.

Late night snack cravings are real! When finding yourself rooting through the cabinets for a sweet fix, these protein cookie dough bites are a great way to curb temptation. This recipe yields around 20 small bites, which can be cut into small squares or rolled into dough balls. Each bite is around 105 calories. If you find the dough is a little too dry, add a dash of milk as needed.

Ingredients

• 1/4 cup milk

• 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder

• 1/4 cup maple syrup

• 1/4 cup peanut butter (or alternate nut or sunflower butter)

• 1 cup almond flour

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

• Chocolate chips as desired

Pro tip: Use mini chocolate chips and for a dash of savory add sea salt flakes on top. Once combined, store the bites in the refrigerator in a covered container to keep them moist.
