owners of the world’s only weather prognosticating Scottish Terrier. Weather data kept since 1887 shows that the Punxsutawney groundhog has been accurate just 39% of the time. Tradition states that if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd we are due to see six more weeks of winter weather. If no shadow is seen we are gifted with an early spring! Our wheaten-coated Scottish Terrier, Albie is five years old and has been making his own Groundhog Day observations since he was born. With his 80% accuracy rate he leaves Punxsutawney Phil in the dust. In addition Albie can bark in seven languages, and yes, his own bark does show a touch of a yodel-like Scottish brogue. He’s very naughty but we’re quite proud of him.
All you need is Love and Macarons This Valentine’s Day
If you’d like to trust your dental health to something a bit more science-based than the groundhog’s weather forecast, Albie would suggest it is time to contact us at the dental office. Dr. Webb just completed a course devoted to management of pediatric medical emergencies. Our dental diagnostic and treatment skills are finetuned at the prestigious Spear Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. We’re here in Mason and eager to hear your story. Consider yourself invited to visit our office.

Thank You Readers! I moved Wagner Law to Deerfield Township in 2016 because this is my community. We live here; my children attend Mason Schools; they play and I coach Mason SAY soccer; we shop and see our doctors here. And during this past, challenging year, we have quarantined, worn masks and stayed socially distanced with our community. This year marks my 26th year practicing law and my career has taken me all over the world. But my practice has never been as meaningful to me as it is now—helping the people right here in my own home community. So, from the bottom of my heart: Thank You for your support.

WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU COMBINE A GROUP OF INSPIRED, THEATER-LOVING INDIVIDUALS WHO SEE A GAP IN THE MASON ARTS COMMUNITY? A one-of-a-kind solution. With deep roots in the Children’s Theatre of Mason which became the ROYAL Theatre Company (Regional Ohio Youth Actors League),

zations to flourish and thrive,” Karen says. “We also envision the Center as a multi-use space to host enriching experiences from arts and theater educational classes to large-scale events. Its creation will no doubt have a significant and long-lasting impact on our region.” The privately-funded facility will offer a stateof-the-art venue allowing for major events to come to Mason, thereby increasing access to quality entertainment options and bringing visitors, revenue and excitement to the community. But the MAC hasn’t forgotten its history in the midst of their exciting, grand plans: In 2003, the ROYAL Theatre Company was founded with a mission of being the premier youth-focused performing arts center in southwestern Ohio. As a passionate advocate for the arts, ROYAL has been one of the lead supporters of the creative vision to

From the ROYAL Theatre Company production of the Wizard of OZ.
As a result of its work toward this vision, ROYAL was invited to be part of the MAC at its inception in 2019 and will be an in-house resident partner with the Center. In addition to this partnership, the MAC is partnering with Mason City Council and the City of Mason to identify the location for the Regional Center for the Arts. MAC President and 60-year theater alum Tom Huff was hesitant at first to lead the group. “I said I would serve only if we were serious about creating the Center to be far more than just a social gathering space,” he says. “We needed to create a facility and infrastructure that celebrates and fosters the development, growth and appreciation of the arts in our community.” Tom’s hesitancy quickly disappeared once he saw the support pouring in—even in the midst of a pandemic. “In the past 22 months, we began to see our vision of a one-of-a-kind amazing arts facility take shape,” he says. “Just the fact that being involved in what I consider to be the most important addition to our region in the future justifies all of our efforts.” Although COVID-19 has delayed the MAC’s plans and fundraising activities, the group has persevered through this tumultuous time and continued to spread the word about their exciting pursuits. In December 2020, Mason City Council passed a unanimous resolution in support of the efforts and vision of MAC, forging the path for future cooperation and partnership to bring the Regional Center for the Arts to life in Mason. Next on the agenda in 2021 is acquiring land, select-

will happen in two phases: first, the Center for the Performing Arts and next, the Center for the Visual Arts. “This has been a passion and dream of mine for many years,” Karen says. “Finally getting to see this come to fruition reminds me that dreams really can come true. If you put the right people together with a shared passion, anything is possible.” Just as Dorothy experiences many trials and is confronted by almost impossible odds in Karen’s favorite musical, The Wizard of Oz, she continues along the yellow brick road until she understands that “there is no place like home.” “Mason is our home,” Karen says. “And there is no better place to have this world-class facility than right here.”

MASON STUDENT AHAN PRASAD TURNED HIS PANDEMIC HOBBY INTO BAKING FOR THE COMMUNITY.
CULINARY CREATIONS
F R E S H LY BAKED I N S P I R AT I O N MASON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT AHAN PRASAD OCCASIONALLY BAKED CAKES BEFORE THE PANDEMIC. However, as an active tennis player and third degree black belt, he gravitated toward physical activities. It was after watching various cooking and baking shows during quarantine that he discovered a new passion for culinary arts. “I really enjoyed it and began baking for my friends and family,” Ahan explains. “They liked it and a few of them suggested that I start selling.” After receiving further encouragement from his parents, he decided to start his own business: Baking with Notjeffrey - AHAN (Notjeffrey is a nickname among friends). “At the age of 13 I never imagined that cooking could be so fun,” he proclaims on his business Facebook page. Willing to try most recipes, Ahan learned a lot very quickly. “I like to challenge myself with different kinds of recipes,” Ahan shares. He was surprised how fast his business picked up and decided to do something special with the money he was earning. “I wanted to help people with my earnings so I got in touch with my principal (Lauren Gentene). She gave me a list of organizations to donate to,” Ahan elaborates.

He decided to donate 10% of his earnings to the Mason Schools Foundation. After his donation, President of Mason Schools Foundation, Nathalie Neuburger, stopped by his house to personally present him with an appreciation card for his donation. Ahan’s favorite cake flavor is chocolate, but that’s far from the only type he offers. His most popular cake flavors are mango, pineapple, tiramisu, vanilla and cheesecake. Ahan’s cake designs often feature expressive and intricate accents, including fresh florals and fruit. As for upcoming baking plans, Ahan has a couple of personal goals: “I heard that croissants are hard to make so I’d like to try to make those. I’d also like to make different types of bread and European desserts.”
