A FRIENDSHIP THAT SPARKED A DREAM
Some of the best stories begin right next door. For Ashley Lindquist, one of the owners of Mama’s Happy in Maple Grove, it began with a simple prayer for neighbors her family could grow alongside. In 2022, that became reality when a family moved in beside them with children the same ages as hers, and a mom who, by chance, was also named Ashley.

What began as friendly waves between yards grew into a lasting friendship. The two Ashleys discovered a shared love for decorating, design, and meaningful community. “Over time, we realized how much we both love creating,” Ashley says. “We dreamed about having a place where we could bring people together and inspire them.” That shared dream eventually led them to Mama’s Happy.
CARRYING ON A BELOVED LEGACY
Founded in 2010 by entrepreneur and creative spirit Amanda Ficek, Mama’s Happy began as a vintage shop filled with locally crafted artisan pieces and refinished furniture. Over time, the store became known for its charm and creativity. When Amanda decided to move south, she passed the opportunity to continue her beloved brand to others who shared her passion. The Ashleys stepped up to lead the Maple Grove location, honoring what Amanda built while expanding the vision to include experiences, events, workshops, and classes that bring people together in new and inspiring ways.
Their goal has always been that Mama’s Happy would be more than a store. “We have built an experience,” Ashley explains. “It is a place to slow down, be encouraged, and reconnect with what makes you happy.” The store has become an oasis, a welcoming escape where customers can pause, breathe, and rediscover joy in simple moments.

Created by local fashion and image stylist Elen Martianova, this one-day experience brings together Maple Grove’s best boutiques, beauty experts, and creative professionals to celebrate real women and the light that shines from within.
This season’s Glow Day honored two remarkable women, Heather Lanari and Jenna Kuhlman, who were lovingly nominated by their families to enjoy a day focused entirely on them. Heather was nominated by her daughter, Isabelle, who shared, “She takes care of everyone and can forget to take care of herself.” Jenna was nominated by her mom,
Corliss O’Donnell, who described her as having “an old soul, always so kind and considerate to others, and deeply in tune with people’s feelings.” Both women are known for their warmth, generosity, and the way they lift up those around them. Glow Day invites them to step away from routine and rediscover the joy of being cared for.
The day began with a personal consultation, where Elen took time to understand each woman’s personality, lifestyle, and what makes her feel beautiful. “That first step is the foundation,” she says. “It’s not just about fashion. It’s about helping each woman feel like the best version of herself.”

Crimson Christmas Cheer Takes Stage
Mick Sterling brings a joyful blend of music, laughter, and community giving.
For decades, Mick Sterling has been a beloved staple in Minnesota’s live music scene, known for his powerhouse voice, generosity, and contagious energy. “I began singing at five years old,” Mick shares. “After high school, I joined my first band, but it wasn’t until forming Mick Sterling and the Stud Brothers in 1988 that everything opened up.”
Sterling’s journey has spanned from smalltown gigs to headlining some of Minnesota’s most iconic stages while staying true to his soulful rock roots. His “Mount Rushmore” of influences includes Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, and Van Morrison, reflecting his passionate and heartfelt style. “The Twin Cities audiences have always been outstanding and supportive,” Mick says. “I’m honored to be a veteran of this scene.”
Now, Sterling is channeling his energy into a brand-new holiday tradition: Crimson Christmas Cheer, debuting Sunday, December 7 at Town Green in Maple Grove. The event kicks off at noon with an outdoor LED-screen viewing of the Minnesota Vikings game, surrounded by family-friendly activities, food trucks, and festive beverages. As the sun sets, the evening culminates with An Andy and Bing Christmas, featuring Mick Sterling, Super Bowl Champion Ben Utecht, Cate Fierro, and Wayne Anthony, backed by a 13-piece orchestra.

“This will be a one-time show this year,” Mick says, “but I hope it becomes an annual tradition.” The event is a free-will donation fundraiser supporting The 30-Days Foundation, which Sterling founded in 2011 to help Minnesota families in financial crisis. “Every show brings awareness to the Foundation,” he adds. “Music is powerful. It connects, uplifts, and helps people when they need it most.”
Looking ahead, Mick plans to release two new books and continue expanding The 30-Days Foundation. “Consistency, passion, and purpose keep me going,” he says. “And this Christmas, we’re going to make some magic happen.”

HOLIDAY COCKTAILS & COZY CREATIONS
SPICED CINNAMON RUM FLIP
A luscious holiday cocktail with warming spices, rich texture, and a beautiful cinnamon garnish.
INGREDIENTS:
• 2 oz dark or spiced rum
• 3/4 oz cinnamon simple syrup
• 1 oz heavy cream
• 1 whole egg
• Dash of ground nutmeg
• Dash of vanilla extract
Garnish: cinnamon stick and a light dusting of nutmeg or cinnamon
Make Cinnamon Simple Syrup:
Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 2 cinnamon sticks in a saucepan. Simmer for 10 mins, let cool, and strain. Store in the fridge.
Add rum, cinnamon syrup, cream, egg, vanilla, and a pinch of nutmeg to a shaker. Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to emulsify the egg. Strain into a coupe or stemmed glass like the one in your photo. Top with a cinnamon stick across the rim and a dusting of nutmeg or cinnamon. Optional: Add 1/2 oz chilled espresso for a coffee kick.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• 2 oz gin
• 1 oz cranberry juice
• 3/4 oz lemon juice
• 1/2 oz simple syrup
• 1 egg white
Optional: splash of sparkling water or club soda
Garnish: fresh rosemary or thyme sprig
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a cocktail shaker, combine gin, cranberry juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white. Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds to create the frothy top. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass to get that smooth, foamy top. Add a small splash of sparkling water if you’d like a bit of fizz. Gently place a sprig of rosemary or thyme on top of the foam.
