LEESA ROWLAND UNLOCKS THE MYSTERIOUS FORMULA FOR CHARM AND INFLUENCE WITH HER NEW BOOK THE CHARISMA FACTOR

LEESA ROWLAND UNLOCKS THE MYSTERIOUS FORMULA FOR CHARM AND INFLUENCE WITH HER NEW BOOK THE CHARISMA FACTOR
For me, July – not Memorial Day - has always meant the beginning of Summer. I grew up in Seattle, which really does have the most amazing summers, but summer doesn’t really start until July 5th, the beginning of what we like to call our “not so rainy” season (and if this isn’t telling enough about the weather there, Labor Day marks the end of summer with a festival called Bumbershoot –trust me, Seattle lives up to its rainy reputation!)
But now I live here in Manhattan, and July means many more things: outside terrace dining at great restaurants all around the city, going to Coney Island, Central Park, and of course – heading out to play on the beaches in the Hamptons! In this issue, we feature Leesa Rowland - animal activist, philanthropist and actress – who gives tips on how to unlock the mysterious formula for charm and influence, what events to attend while you’re out east, and how to best maximize your fun.
And if you’re NOT leaving Manhattan, you might check out our write-up on a wonderful restaurant in Kips Bay called Riverpark – if you’re looking for great food and amazing drinks all with a view overlooking the East River, try their nowopen outside terrace (restaurant reviewed in this issue).
And finally, what would a summer in New York be without attending New York Swim Week? Dive into the captivating realm of “Swimtopia” with founder and swimsuit designer Evita Scoccia – read about her work and her passion in the pages of this issue.
So no matter WHAT you end up doing, be sure to get out there, have fun, and make the most of July that you can … no matter what it is. Remember, no matter what you end up doing, it could be worse: it could be raining.

Evita Scoccia Has Taken The Swimwear World By Storm And Shown She’s Much More Than Just A Pretty Face!
ARTICLE BY DON SEAMAN PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOHN AGNELLO, EVITA SCOCCIA
There are people who you could look at and you might think, “They should be a model.” It’s usually a snap judgment about their look, their poise, their aura. There’s the “it” factor that can be hit upon simply with a glance. Evita Scoccia certainly has that. But it’s what is inside that makes her positively transcendent.
Most people in their mid-twenties aren’t willing to take on as much – or as driven to persevere – as Evita. She has a full-time job as an event planner, a swimsuit designer, founder of New York Swim Week, and, yes, a model.
It’s not a bad list of accomplishments for a young woman from a small town near Pittsburgh who had no intention of heading to New York. But Evita has never been one to stop at “not bad.” Can’t is simply not in her lexicon.
In fact, one of her main motivations throughout has been to help people push past the idea of “can’t.”
New York Swim Week is her baby and swimsuit design is her passion project. Yet the underlying thread is to be an influence for young women, particularly those who don’t have the correct support systems to help them maximize their potential – or their dreams.
“It’s not about having all the answers. You’re staring into the abyss, but you keep hustling despite what people might think,” explains Evita. “Persistence makes the impossible possible.”
Evita launched her swimwear brand, Evita Luxury Swimwear, straight out of high school, before she ever even thought of one day attending Parsons New School in NYC. It started a chain of events that led her to the biggest stage in the world, although her humble beginnings didn’t presage where she would end up. She first unveiled her swimsuit designs at Pittsburgh Fashion Week. But New York is where some of the biggest fashion schools in the world are. It was her family who suggested that she take on that challenge if she was going to be a success. And it was their example that she followed that set the tone for her future.
“My mother is really my rock, my right hand,” she says. “She helps with the packaging of my swimwear from Pittsburgh.” Her father’s own efforts in giving back inspired her to devote a portion of her profits to charity.
It’s this commitment to a greater cause that has Evita seeking out speaking engagements. She was invited to sit in on a panel at this year’s NY Fashion Week where she once won the award for Best Petite Model. She’s had her own Times Square billboard. However, her NY legacy will likely be built away from the runway.
Before Evita, there was no New York Swim Week. It was an idea that came to her simply considering her apartment’s pool. Soon, she took her trademarked concept and built it into an annual event, now poised to host its fourth show in July of 2024. She took it all on entirely by herself, with no mentor or guide to help bring her ideas to fruition.
“It’s not about having all the answers. You’re staring into the abyss, but you keep hustling despite what people might think. Persistence makes the impossible possible.”
“I’ve always had the drive to be self-sufficient and take things on,” she says. Her experience in event planning was an advantage, while her swimsuit design life told her what was important for success. There was no blueprint to guide her, yet she’s created something that’s having a lasting, far-ranging impact.
The idea of Swim Week is now being held in cities across the country, inspired by the indomitable spirit of one small-town girl who’s conquered Manhattan. Evita is simply someone who will upend any preconceptions you may have about models. Her beauty comes from her mind, her heart, her spirit. She’s an articulate, driven businesswoman who brightens the world simply by what she says and what she does. It’s what’s inside that makes her radiant.
Her New York Swim Week website explains her modus operandi and why it’s so important to her: “…empowerment to all female entrepreneurs to never stop the hustle until you walk into a room with everyone knowing your name.”
Evita Scoccia is special. Yet, it’s just as important to her that others know that they are, too.
Wayne Lifestyle was invited to cover 2024’s New York Fashion Week, and we were fortunate to engage with such a bona fide, down-to-earth star as Evita. For more information about her show, go to nyswimweek.com . To browse her swimwear, go to www.Evita.shop and visit her on Instagram @evitascoccia

RIVERFRONT VIEWS AND DELICIOUS FOOD
ARTICLE BY SVETLANA DALE
Have you heard the buzz? There's a new must-visit spot in New York City that offers a culinary experience transporting you to a charming seaside resort.
Perched along the serene banks of the East River in New York City, Riverpark Restaurant is a haven of culinary excellence and understated luxury. Stepping inside, guests are greeted by a chic yet inviting ambiance, where sleek contemporary design harmonizes with breathtaking waterfront views.
PHOTOGRAPHY BY SVETLANA DALE AND JOHNNY ANDON
Led by the culinary vision of renowned chef Kishen Jagmohan, the menu at Riverpark is a testament to seasonal bounty and culinary innovation. Each dish is a masterful composition of flavors, meticulously crafted from locally sourced ingredients and imbued with Chef Jagmohan’s signature touch. Whether savoring delicate seafood offerings or indulging in expertly grilled meats, diners are treated to a symphony of taste sensations that celebrate the essence of American cuisine.
Riverpark, located in Kips Bay, owned by Arthur Backal of Backal Hospitality Group right above the FDR and East River with views overlooking Queens, is an exquisite escape from the bustling city streets. It's the perfect destination for a date, a night out with friends, or even a solo retreat, allowing you to appreciate the city's vibrant energy in a serene setting.
Behind its doors, Riverpark boasts an ambience that is both unique and unforgettable. The restaurant features gorgeous
wooden tables, gold accents, a stunning bar design with metal details, and exquisite light fixtures that come together seamlessly to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The design, crafted by the renowned architectural firm Bentel & Bentel, strikes a perfect balance between sleekness and comfort.
The staff at Riverpark is exceptionally welcoming. We had the pleasure of speaking with Nadine Pizzuto - Director of Service who recently received her Level 3 WSET (wine) certification.
“RIVERPARK BOASTS AN AMBIENCE THAT IS BOTH UNIQUE AND UNFORGETTABLE”
Her extensive knowledge and dedication to providing the highest level of service truly enhance the dining experience. The entire team, including Oscar Antonio - Head Bartender known for his impressive cocktail crafting skills and deep understanding of spirits, shares this commitment to excellence. Oscar’s flair and creativity shine through in the cocktail menu he has curated, adding a personal touch to every drink. Our favorite drink of the night was "Smoke Signals" - a boozy creation.
While the interior of Riverpark is sleek and beautifully designed, it’s the outdoor terrace that truly stands out. As the season for outdoor dining begins, we highly recommend making a reservation to enjoy this exceptional space. Open from 4pm to 9pm, Monday through Friday, the terrace features a spacious patio with some of the best views the city has to offer. Guests can relax in Adirondack chairs on artificial grass, surrounded by lanterns that create a cozy, glamping-like vibe. For sunnier days, umbrellas provide a cool respite.
Riverpark’s summer offerings include seafood towers and small bites, all prepared in a farm-to-table style. Our favorite dish to share is the NY Strip Steak with grilled spring onions, baby carrots cooked to perfection. The dish is completed with a generous handful of fresh watercress, adding a peppery note and vibrant color. Additionally, live music is performed every Wednesday on the patio, adding to the delightful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for the after-work crowd to gather, unwind, and enjoy the view with a glass of wine in hand.
Riverpark is more than just a restaurant; it's a destination that provides a refreshing escape from city life while celebrating the vibrancy of New York. Whether enjoying a romantic dinner for two or hosting a celebratory event, Riverpark sets the stage for memorable moments against the iconic backdrop of the New York City skyline.

SITTING DOWN WITH ARI
Ari Bokovza's venture into the world of cooking began with his father, a restaurateur in Philadelphia. His father’s passion for the culinary arts was infectious, and young Ari was captivated by the vibrant atmosphere of his father's restaurant. When he was 12, the family moved to New York City, where his father opened a nightclub called The Amazon in the early 1990s. This new venture introduced Ari to a different facet of the hospitality industry which, later on, showed him that the kitchen was his home.
Later, his father launched another concept in Sag Harbor. Ari started working as a busboy but soon found himself drawn to the kitchen. He admired the creativity and skill of the cooks and asked the chef if he could help with simple tasks like peeling carrots or washing dishes. This humble beginning ignited his passion for cooking and marked the start of his culinary journey.
Despite having no formal culinary training, Ari’s dedication and enthusiasm led him to work at the renowned Union Square Cafe. There, he found camaraderie and mentorship under Chef Michael Romano. Ari describes himself as a sponge in his late teens and early 20s, absorbing every lesson and skill imparted by his mentors. The brotherhood he experienced at Union Square Cafe profoundly shaped his approach to cooking and hospitality.
We had the honor of trying the lamb and salmon skewers, a new menu item at Acadia that is all the rage and a must-try! Cooked to perfection, it speaks to the restaurant’s theme and cuisine. Skewers are an integral part of the culture and heritage of the Levantine culture, embodying the vibrant street food scene where vendors expertly grill chicken thighs and hearts over open flames. This tradition, rich with aromatic smoke and the tantalizing sizzle of meat, evokes a communal and joyous eating experience. Bringing these skewers into a restaurant setting elevates this beloved practice, enhancing the flavors while retaining the casual, hands-on enjoyment. The smoky scent wafting through the air, and the tactile pleasure of eating straight from the skewer adds a fun, sensory dimension that connects us to our culinary roots in an elevated, yet familiar, way.
Ari told us an important thing to remember is “don’t take yourself too seriously” and “If you truly love what you do you’re never working.” I love teaching, as it allows me to share my passion and knowledge with others. My approach to cooking involves mentally preparing dishes through my experiences. That what it's about.
