LIFESTYLE LETTER
Lifestyle Letter
September 2026 PUBLISHER
Amy Bailey | amy.bailey@citylifestyle.com
When I was 10 years old I wrote Huntsville news reporter Liz Hurley and pitched an idea for a tween fashion show entitled 'Dazzling Fashions'. I assured her that this content was immensely needed for my age group and that I was the person to host. I included some ideas for segments as well as sketches of my ideas. Needless to say that idea didn't come to fruition, but this passion for style and design was one that existed in early childhood and has continued to be fueled and fed my whole life. There isn't a week that goes by currently in which someone does not remark on how 'beautiful' the magazine is and that the content is such incredible quality. This little girl from New Hope may not have had lots of beautiful things growing up, but she knew beauty when she saw it - whether it was in a flower or a friendship bracelet. Style and beauty are often dismissed as superficial, but they have a profound effect on our emotional health and confidence. The environments we create and the way we present ourselves communicate not only with the outside world but also with our own minds. When you put on clothes that fit well, wear a favorite lipstick, or style your hair with intention, you’re sending yourself a subtle but powerful message: I matter. Psychologists refer to this as “enclothed cognition”—the idea that what we wear influences how we think, feel, and perform. Dressing intentionally can increase confidence, improve focus, and even make us feel more capable. Beauty works in much the same way. A thoughtfully designed room, fresh flowers in an entry, or a beautifully set table can calm the nervous system and reduce stress. Our brains are constantly taking in visual information- colors, natural materials, and organized spaces help create a sense of peace. It’s one reason a beautiful home or garden leaves us feeling restored—they appeal to our innate desire for order, comfort, and inspiration. Beauty also invites us to slow down. Savoring a cup of coffee in a favorite mug, arranging fresh peonies in a vase, or taking a walk through a historic neighborhood reminds us to notice life’s small pleasures. These moments cultivate gratitude which is linked to greater happiness and lower anxiety. Importantly, beauty doesn’t require extravagance. It isn’t about labels or perfection. It’s about intentionality. Long. Live. Print. And Style.

Madison’s Most Stylish CELEBRATING SOME OF MADISON’S MOST FASHIONABLE, CREATIVE, AND CONFIDENTLY AUTHENTIC PERSONALITIES.
Madison is home to an array of unique styles and personalities. Anywhere you go, you’ll see people embracing their own uniqueness with their personal style. From timeless classics to the latest trends, these local fashion lovers show that confidence and creativity is always in style.
Yunus Hassan, Providence Bar and Loonas WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE? Watches. I start by looking at my day and choosing a piece that matches my activities and the watch tones and material will guide my subsequent wardrobe decisions. WHAT IS YOUR FASHION ADVICE? Fashion is personal, but it’s what everyone sees. My advice is to find people that inspire you and use your inspirations to create your own looks! WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM? My style inspiration comes from English Premiership soccer coaches, and my trips to Tokyo. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP? My favorite places to shop are freeflyapparel.com, Zappos.com, vintage watch stores, concert merch when seeing a band I like, and Hermes and Burberry. WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN? My love for fashion started when I first saw the Victoria’s Secret fashion show on TV. WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS IN TOWN? Most days in town I’m wearing relatively relaxed clothes that I can take to the gym and then make my rounds at the restaurants. Photo Credit: Tresa Peppers

WHAT’S ONE FASHION TREND YOU’D NEVER TRY? Skinny jeans. HOW HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS? My style has changed from slightly more urban to much more professional, with light all weather blazers and pull overs so I can feel a bit more age appropriate.

WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE? A great blazer! I love a blazer-and-jeans look for my day-to-day at work. One of my favorite staples is a green Aritzia blazer I bought a couple of years ago. WHAT IS YOUR FASHION ADVICE? Wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable. Comfort goes a long way, but so does wearing pieces that make you feel your best. Try different styles until you find what truly feels like you. WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU’D LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK? I’ll say it… skinny jeans! Especially in the winter with tall boots. WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM? A lot of it comes from Pinterest. I search words that describe my style and save looks that inspire me. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP? Aritzia and DISSH are my favorites. Honestly, Abercrombie has made such a great comeback too. WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN? I didn’t really get into fashion until I started working. Over time, I learned to trust my own style and wear what I love instead of dressing for other people’s opinions. WHAT’S ONE FASHION TREND YOU’D NEVER TRY? I just can’t get into jorts… HOW HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS? Completely! My style is so much more “me” now. I’ve become more confident in knowing what I like and sticking to it. WHAT’S A STYLE ERA YOU LOVE? The ’90s, for sure! WHAT IS ONE FASHION TREND YOU’D NEVER TRY? Y2K coded low rise jeans + mini crop tops are one trend I will happily leave in the past.

Tiffany Pack, Dream Key Realty WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE? Heels, without a doubt. I love them all, but I definitely have a soft spot for a pair of red bottoms. WHAT IS YOUR FASHION ADVICE? Wear what makes you feel confident. If you feel good in it, you’ll look good in it. WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU’D LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK? Denim on denim. It’s classic, effortless, and always makes a statement when done right. WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM? My personality. My style is eclectic and reflects whatever mood I’m in that day. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP? I love a good mix of local boutiques, Amazon finds, and Nordstrom staples. WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN? In my early twenties, when I realized fashion was a form of self-expression. WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS IN TOWN? Something uniquely me, usually a skirt or dress paired with heels. WHAT’S ONE FASHION TREND YOU’D NEVER TRY? Crocs. HOW HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS? The older I get, the more I appreciate classic, timeless pieces.

Kenyonna James WHAT IS A FASHION STAPLE IN YOUR WARDROBE? A great pair of statement pants will always have a place in my closet. They make even the simplest outfit feel intentional and are the easiest way to look put together without trying too hard. WHAT IS ONE TREND YOU’D LOVE TO SEE MAKE A COMEBACK? I will always vote for more 90s fashion. It was the perfect mix of effortless, sporty, and timeless. WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR FASHION BEGIN? I’d say it started back in middle school with a pair of bell bottoms I wanted to wear almost every day. Looking back, that was probably the first sign that getting dressed was going to become one of my favorite forms of self expression. WHERE DOES YOUR STYLE INSPIRATION COME FROM? I’d say it comes from somewhere between streetwear with a feminine edge. I love relaxed silhouettes with soft colors, bold prints, and pieces that make getting dressed feel fun. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOP? My closet is a mix of Amazon, Old Navy, Fashion Nova, and ASOS. I love finding affordable pieces that look elevated when they’re styled well. HOW HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS? Now that I’m a toddler mom I keep it easy but fashionable. Matching sets, oversized shirts, and easy pants have become my go to because they make mom life easier without sacrificing personal style. WHAT IS A STYLE ERA YOU LOVE? The 90s will always be my favorite style era. It mastered the balance between casual and cool in a way that still feels relevant today.
“Style has nothing to do with size. Every color and pattern can work on every body when you find the silhouettes that make you feel your best.” 16

WHAT CAN WE CATCH YOU WEARING MOST DAYS TOWN? You can almost always find me in a patterned or animal print pant, an oversized button up, and my Adidas Sambas. WHAT IS ONE FASHION TREND YOU’D NEVER TRY? Y2K coded low rise jeans + mini crop tops are one trend I will happily leave in the past.

GATHER IN STYLE ARTICLE BY AMY BAILEY
TA K I N G G A M E N I G H T T O A N E W L E V E L There was a time when every well-loved home had a room dedicated to gathering—a place where laughter flowed, stories were shared, and friends lingered around the table long after dessert had been served. Today, that tradition is enjoying a stylish revival as mahjong, bridge, canasta, and classic card games have become the social centerpiece for a new generation of hosts. The modern game room isn’t tucked away in a dark basement. Instead, it’s one of the most thoughtfully designed rooms in the home, blending timeless elegance with playful sophistication. Equal parts cocktail lounge, conversation space, and entertaining hub, it’s where beautiful interiors meet meaningful connection. The always on-point interior design firm, Accents of the South (@accentsofthesouth) by designer Beverly Farrington brings this room to life in dramatic detail with eye popping hues, lush upholstery, a custom glass wall, and the focal point - a game table curated with beauty and intentionality. START WITH THE TABLE Every unforgettable game room begins with a beautiful table. Whether you choose a custom wood pedestal table, a lacquered finish in a cheerful color, or an elegant round dining table, the goal is comfort and conversation. Four upholstered chairs allow players to get comfortable through long rounds of mahjong. The stunning coral velvet creates an old Hollywood vibe that oozes glamour and sophistication.

Everyone knows mahjong tiles are a work of art too. And what a beautiful way a game table, styled into the room as a focal point, is to display your favorite set.
LAYER COLOR AND PATTERN This is the room where you can embrace personality. Softer jewel tones inspired by Palm Beach—think mint green, blush, coral, smoky quartz —offer a fresh, feminine take. Textured grasscloth

CREATE AN INVITING GLOW Lighting sets the tone for every gathering. Statement sconces flanking the table provide both function and drama. Layer in table lamps and a large pendant in the
center of the room which is a work of art itself, to eliminate harsh shadows and create an atmosphere that is relaxed and intimate, encouraging guests to linger. Dimmers are essential—bright enough to read a mahjong card, soft enough for cocktails afterward.
ELEVATE THE COCKTAIL EXPERIENCE Every sophisticated game room deserves its own beverage station. CONTINUED >

A beautifully styled bar cabinet stocked with crystal glassware, favorite spirits, sparkling water, and wine allows guests to help themselves. Display trays, linen napkins, fresh citrus, and seasonal flowers to make entertaining feel effortless. What makes this bar so very special, is the custom glass wall featuring varying colors of handcrafted glass tiles created by artist Matt Kolbrener @mattkolbrener and installed within a custom trellis by Mike Knox. An absolute showstopper in this space.
STORAGE CAN BE BEAUTIFUL Mahjong tiles, scorecards, trays, and playing accessories deserve a home that’s as elegant as the room itself. Built-in cabinetry keeps supplies organized while maintaining the room’s polished appearance.
ADD LAYERS THAT TELL YOUR STORY
LUXURY MAHJONG SETS Choose a beautifully designed acrylic mahjong set that is as much a work of art as it is a game. Colorful tiles, coordinating racks, and stylish carrying cases make these sets worthy of display even when not in use. Look For: • The Mahjong Line • Oh My Mahjong • Emily Nichols Mahjong
CHIC BAR ESSENTIALS Stock your entertaining station with timeless pieces that elevate every gathering. • Juliska glassware • Juliska serving bowls and trays • Estelle Colored Glass stemware • Matouk embroidered cocktail napkins • Crystal ice bucket and bar tools • Handwoven rattan serving trays

The most memorable entertaining spaces reflect the people who gather there. Original artwork, collected antiques, family photographs, travel souvenirs, and favorite books bring warmth and personality. Velvet pillows, embroidered linens, cashmere throws, and tailored drapery soften the room while creating a welcoming atmosphere. Fresh flowers are never out of place.
MORE THAN A GAME ROOM The beauty of today’s game room is its versatility. One evening it hosts a lively mahjong tournament. The next afternoon it becomes a book club gathering, a holiday cocktail party, or an intimate dinner with friends. In an increasingly digital world, these spaces encourage something refreshingly analog: eye contact, conversation, laughter, and genuine connection. Perhaps that’s why the sophisticated game room has become one of the most desirable spaces in luxury homes today. It’s not simply a room designed for games— it’s a room designed for living well.

A Soulful
House
Alabama architect Jeffrey Dungan has long believed that the best homes do more than provide shelter—they tell a story. In his new Rizzoli book, The Soulful House: Stories of Beauty, Belonging, and the Spirit of Home, Dungan expands on that philosophy, inviting readers into a collection of residences that celebrate timeless architecture, thoughtful craftsmanship, and the emotional connection between people and place.
Known for designing homes that embrace natural light, honest materials, and timeless craftsmanship, Dungan has spent his career proving that great architecture is about far more than square footage or style. His homes invite families to gather, memories to unfold, and traditions to take root. Whether overlooking the Gulf Coast, tucked into the mountains, or nestled beside a quiet pasture, each residence reflects a deep respect for both the land and the people who call it home. In The Soulful House, readers are welcomed inside more than a dozen remarkable homes, including Dungan’s own, through stunning photography and thoughtful storytelling. Rather than simply showcasing beautiful spaces, the book explores the emotions behind them—why certain rooms become gathering places, how natural light changes the mood of a home, and why the simplest details often leave the greatest impression. For Dungan, whose Alabama roots continue to influence his work, architecture begins with listening. Every project is designed around the lives, dreams, and rhythms of the families who will live there. That philosophy shines through every page, making the book feel less like a design portfolio and more like a conversation about what truly makes a house a home.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A resonant voice in the world of architecture, Jeffrey Dungan’s many honors include awards from the American Institute of Architects, the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, and the Palladio Award. In 2024, Forbes named him one of the top 200 architects in the United States. He is the author of The Nature of Home. Buy Online $60 rizzoliusa.com

HUMOR “ANDI MARIE TILLMAN REMINDS AUDIENCES THAT EVERYDAY SOUTHERN LIFE IS FILLED WITH EXTRAORDINARY COMEDY.”
Andi Marie Tillman knows how to win audiences over by making them feel like they’re sitting on the front porch with an eccentric aunt, an old friend or the town clerk. From growing up in the South to navigating family dynamics, church culture, and the everyday moments that make life wonderfully unpredictable, Tillman has built a career on one simple truth: authenticity is funny. That genuine approach has transformed the Southern storyteller into one of comedy’s fastest-rising voices. Through soldout comedy clubs, viral social media clips, and an expanding tour schedule, Tillman’s razor sharp wit proves that audiences are hungry for humor that feels honest, relatable, and refreshingly free of pretense. Her comedy isn’t built on outrageous characters or elaborate stories. Instead, she finds humor in ordinary life—the conversations around the dinner table, family reunions, awkward encounters with strangers, and the little quirks that make Southern living so memorable. “I’ve always believed the funniest stories are the true ones,” Tillman has often shared in interviews. “Everybody has that one family member or that one experience they can laugh about.” That philosophy has become the foundation of her success. Like many comedians, Tillman’s career didn’t happen overnight. She spent years performing in clubs throughout the South, refining her timing, learning to read audiences, and developing a voice that feels uniquely her own. Every performance sharpened her storytelling while strengthening her connection with audiences. Social media became another stage. Short clips of her performances introduced thousands of new fans to her unmistakable Southern humor. Those online moments quickly translated into ticket sales, sold-out performances, and invitations to perform at respected comedy venues across the country. One recent milestone came with her appearance in Nashville, where she took the stage before an enthusiastic crowd eager to hear her signature blend of observational comedy and Southern storytelling. The performance highlighted just how far her career has come—and where it’s headed next. Rather than relying on shock value, Tillman’s comedy invites everyone into

the conversation. It’s smart without being complicated, clean without feeling restrained, and deeply rooted in the shared experiences that connect families across generations. Perhaps that’s why audiences leave her shows feeling like they’ve spent an evening laughing with an old friend. For Southern audiences especially, there’s something comforting about hearing stories that sound familiar. Tillman celebrates the culture without making fun of it, embracing the traditions, personalities, and imperfections that make the South unlike anywhere else. As her fan base continues to grow, one thing remains unchanged: she’s still telling stories about everyday life. They’re simply reaching a much bigger audience now. And if her recent Nashville performance is any indication, the next chapter of Andi Tillman’s story promises even more laughter.
AT A GLANCE
Hometown: Huntsville, Tennessee Known For: Relatable observational comedy rooted in everyday Southern life Comedy Style: Storytelling, family humor, Southern culture, and life’s awkward moments Growing Audience: Built through live performances, touring, and a rapidly expanding social media following Recent Highlight: A standout performance in Nashville that showcased her growing national appeal Perfect For: Anyone who appreciates clever, clean storytelling with plenty of Southern charm
“THE FUNNIEST STORIES ARE USUALLY THE ONES WE’VE ALL LIVED.” FIVE QUESTIONS WITH ANDI TILLMAN What first made you believe comedy could become a career? The moment I realized audiences connected with my stories. Once people started telling me, “That’s exactly like my family,” I knew I had found my voice. Your material feels incredibly personal. How do your family and friends react? Thankfully, they have a good sense of humor. They know they’re likely to end up in a joke sooner or later. Southern culture plays a big role in your comedy. Why is that important to you? Those are the stories I know best. Southern families are unique, but they’re also universal in so many ways. People everywhere can relate to them. Who is your favorite character to play? Nashveratu, a vampire trying to make it big in Nashville. It’s just a very quirky character that came to me. Favorite Southern saying? Piddlin’ What’s next? I have more shows coming up in Nashville in November at Zanies. And you can follow along @andimarietillman. CONTINUED >

THE CLOSET AT TIFFANY’S Move over ladies of Selling Sunset, Alabama real estate professional Tiffany Pack brings stylish flare to everything she does. Step inside her closet to see a stunning display of luxury meets everyday, as well as a carefully curated design that makes her daily living beautifully functional. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO DESIGN YOUR DREAM CLOSET? I envisioned my dream closet as a harmonious trio: organization for function, storage for sanity, and display for joy. From the beginning, I wanted everything to have a place, but also to be on display like a gallery. WALK US THROUGH THE LAYOUT OF YOUR CLOSET. The centerpiece is a custom island with drawers for jewelry, belts, and scarves. One side of the closet is devoted entirely to a shoe showcase, while the rest of the space is divided into sections for pants, tops, and dress slacks, with dedicated dress areas and handbag storage displayed above. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SECTION OF YOUR CLOSET? My shoe display is my standout spot because I’ve always had a deep love for shoes. It’s like walking into a gallery of personal milestones, with each pair representing a little chapter.

HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE YOUR WARDROBE? I organize primarily by color, but texture plays a role too. My casual and everyday dresses have their own section, while my formal attire has a dedicated space of its own. It keeps everything easy to find while creating a visually organized look. WHICH BRANDS OR DESIGNERS TAKE UP THE MOST SPACE IN YOUR CLOSET? For shoes, it’s a dynamic duo: Christian Louboutin and Nike. It’s an unexpected combination, but it’s authentically me. As for clothing, I don’t stick to a single designer. My closet is a little eclectic adventure that includes everything from luxury pieces to everyday finds. TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE PIECES. I love my vintage Gucci accordion handbag. For shoes, my most treasured pair is my first Christian Louboutins. They’re leopard, shimmery, classic, and a reminder of a special milestone in my journey. WHAT ARE YOUR BEST TIPS FOR KEEPING A CLOSET ORGANIZED AND CLUTTER-FREE? My top tip? A thumbprint doorknob. It keeps my 18-year-old daughter out of my closet! But seriously, everything should have a place. I like being able to look around and immediately know what’s missing, what needs to go to the cleaners, and what needs attention. IF YOU COULD GIVE READERS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR CREATING A CLOSET THEY TRULY LOVE, REGARDLESS OF ITS SIZE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Use every inch of available space. No matter the size of your closet, when every area has a purpose, you can create a space that is both beautiful and functional.

Put Your Best Hair Forward NEO MODE GIVES THE TOP HAIR TIPS AND TRENDS TO E L E VAT E Y O U R S T Y L E F O R F A L L 2 0 2 6 ARTICLE BY CASEY CREQUE Fall is in the air, and this year, we’re embracing warm tones and edgy textures, and revisiting the classic 90’s blowout. Lauren Knox, owner of Neo Mode shares the top trends and hair care tips to have you putting your best hair forward this Fall.
Honey tones | The hottest color trend is honey…. Honey blondes, caramel and honey toned brunettes. Warmth in any hair color adds shine and vibrance. Pureology’s “Color Fanatic” | A summer must! This is a multi tasking leave in spray and is the brand’s premier product for UV protection. This product is also vegan and lists 21 benefits ranging from hot tool protection to UV protection. Texture. Texture. Texture. | The biggest haircutting trend is texture….for short hair the “Bixie”, think edgy pixie with the length of a short bob. For Longer hair we are seeing a modern shag with face framing bangs and long layers. Textured hair cuts set you up for great style with minimal effort. Redken Bonding Products | With hair color still ruling the day in the hair industry the newest bonding lines are our top sellers. These products add strength and rebuild where extensive hair coloring can leave damage. Spray Wax | Don’t skip on spray wax when styling. For finer hair it plumps the root, and it’s great for molding the super textured short styles. High-Gloss Treatments | Regardless of the color, a highshine, glossy finish is essential for the season.
