I want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who made our fashion shoot run so smoothly this year! Thank you to our lovely boutiques and shops, Alley Boutique, Mainstream Boutique, and Dale Robertson Jewelry, who selected and styled the most amazing fashion-forward outfits, complete with accessories, of course. A big thanks goes out to the Loveland Museum Center for providing our shoot location, and also to Retro Rentals, whose VW bus was the perfect prop in photos. Thank you to our beautiful models Sage and Farrah from Heyman Talent. You were both a joy to work with. I can’t forget about Exquisite Design Salon and Spa. Thank you, 100 times over, for spending the day with us and ensuring not a hair was out of place and lipstick was freshly applied. Thank you, Matthew J. Capps, for your incredible eye. You always know just how to capture the perfect photo. Last, but not least, thank you Steph Meinberg and Ali Waychoff for not only keeping track of each earring, sandal, and jacket, but for the dynamite article that accompanies these photos.

There’s a particular kind of morning that only happens in early fall ... the air has a bite to it, but the sun still remembers summer. You reach for a sweater without thinking, toss an overnight bag in the car, and somewhere between pouring your coffee and pulling out of the driveway, you remember why this season feels different. Fall doesn’t ask you to reinvent yourself. It simply invites you to slow down, layer up, and see where the road leads. So, we did what any fashion-loving traveler would do — we went shopping for answers. Deb Popp and Debby Walker of Alley Boutique and Lori Avallone of Mainstream Boutique helped map out this season’s standout looks, proving that refreshing your wardrobe doesn’t require starting over. Instead, it’s about choosing timeless pieces, embracing effortless style, and wearing what feels like you. “We’re especially happy to see people mixing designers to fit their personal style,” Deb and Debby share. “Getting dressed up feels fun again.” CONTINUED >

The season can be summed up in three words: “elevated, relaxed luxury.” Silhouettes skim rather than cling, while lace, fuzzy knits, subtle shimmer, and unexpected animal prints add texture to every look. Wide-leg jeans continue their reign, and short-sleeve sweaters become versatile staples. The biggest trend, though, isn’t found on a hanger — it’s personal style. At Mainstream Boutique, Lori sees fall take on a polished, approachable personality. “We’re seeing a little more casual wear that’s elevated,” she says, as cleaner denim and tailored pieces return to everyday wardrobes. Oxblood, cobalt blue, olive green, and burnt orange create a palette that feels unmistakably autumn.

SS 18K tulang naga bar bracelet, $369. SS tulang naga bar bracelet with pave black spinel, $360.

The mood is effortless, blending familiar favorites with fresh details that feel current without chasing passing trends. But some trends never leave, and Lori is happy to see them stay. “We like it when a classic is a trend,” she smiles. “It’s easier to get on board, and it’ll stay in your closet.” Mixed-media denim jackets, crisp stripes, Americana-inspired prints, barn jackets, cozy Fair Isle knits, and slim straight jeans prove wardrobes aren’t built around trends alone. They’re built around pieces you’ll reach for season after season. Ask either boutique what belongs in a fall suitcase, and the packing list comes together almost instantly: wide-leg pants for the drive, cozy sweaters for cool evenings, and one outfit reserved for wherever the weekend takes you. Whether it’s a mountain cabin, a downtown getaway, or a brunch across town, this season is built around clothing that travels as easily as you do.

If there’s one piece both boutiques agree every closet needs this fall, it’s the wide-leg jean. “Wide-leg jeans are a must for your wardrobe,” Deb and Debby explain. “They’re great in every event, dressed up or down, elevated or casual.” Tie-neck sweaters and blouses add softness, while scarves pull double duty as head wraps or waist accents. Mary Janes, kitten heels, and streamlined sneakers replace the chunky silhouettes of recent seasons. “Our customers are falling in love with feminine styles and fun colors this season,” Deb and Debby add. Each piece effortlessly balances comfort, versatility, and confidence for every adventure ahead. For Lori, though, the most important trend has nothing to do with colors or hemlines. “Trends are fantastic,” she shares, “but if it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work for you. You need to do what’s best for you.” It’s a simple reminder, but perhaps the most stylish one of all.

A great wardrobe has never been about chasing the next destination. It’s about feeling comfortable wherever you arrive. Pack the sweater. Bring the wide-leg jeans. Take the jacket that makes you feel like yourself. Relaxed tailoring, thoughtful layers, and timeless textures make every outfit feel effortless, wherever fall leads. Because the best journeys aren’t remembered for what you wore, they’re remembered for how confidently you lived while wearing it. GRAND LUXURY POOLS BRINGS A CUSTOM DESIGN AND COMPLETE OUTDOOR LIVING DREAM TO LIFE

ARTICLE BY LISA FLETCHER PHOTOGRAPHY BY MATTHEW J. CAPPS

These days, the backyard is doing a lot more than growing grass. It’s where families gather, friends linger, and life’s everyday moments unfold. For more than two decades, Donnie and Amy Powell have helped homeowners create outdoor spaces that are as beautiful as they are functional through their Loveland-based company, Finer Lawn & Landscaping. As demand for custom pools continued to grow, the couple recently launched Grand Luxury Pools & Outdoor Living, a sister company dedicated exclusively to pool design and installation while working seamlessly alongside Finer Lawn & Landscaping. If there was ever a project that showcased what’s possible when the two companies work together, it’s the backyard they created for Jon and Jennifer Haines of South Lebanon. The Haines family came to Donnie with a simple goal: transform their backyard into a place where family and friends could gather. Before construction even began, they knew they had found the right team. “Donnie’s team showed us a 3D rendering of the project, and it surpassed our expectations of what we imagined was possible,” Jennifer recalls. What followed became the largest project Donnie and his team have completed to date. The transformation included a custom in-ground pool with a diving board, waterslide and tanning ledge, more than 3,000 square feet of custom pavers and coping, retaining walls, a pergola, a covered outdoor living space with custom cabinetry, an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, lighting, fencing, raised landscape beds, and multiple entertainment areas. But the biggest challenge wasn’t the wish list, it was the property itself. “The backyard had a significant slope all the way down to the creek,” Donnie explains. “Everything had to be done with precision. The retaining walls had to be beautiful, but they also had to be structurally sound. Just getting materials from the road to the backyard was a challenge.” Watching the transformation take shape made every obstacle worthwhile. CONTINUED >

29

“My favorite part of every project is seeing it all come together,” Donnie shares with a smile. “On this one, I really love the waterfalls, the lighting at night, and the covered structure with the fireplace. The pool speaks for itself. It’s large, it’s fun, and I know the kids won’t be able to stay out of it.” For Jennifer, the finished backyard was everything the family had hoped for. “We love using the outdoor kitchen, and the fireplace lets us enjoy the space well into the fall. My favorite spot is the hanging swing where I can relax with a good book.” But they didn’t stop there. Jennifer shares how the transformation extended beyond the backyard. “Donnie also completed our driveway and refreshed the landscaping in the front yard. Our entire property was transformed.” Projects like the Haines’ are exactly why the Powells decided it was time to launch Grand Luxury Pools & Outdoor Living. “We knew it was time to create this company when we were doing more than 10 to 15 pools a year,” Donnie explains. “Finer Lawn & Landscaping just didn’t sound like a pool company anymore. We wanted to separate the pool business while still allowing the two companies to work together.” And work together they do. That partnership gives homeowners something Donnie believes is increasingly valuable: one experienced team from concept to completion.

30

O PE N H OU SE | HO ME + D E SIGN

“Our goal is to be a one-stop shop,” he says. “From design to installation, we develop a plan that fits the customer’s needs and budget. Our pool team handles everything from excavation through installation, then our landscaping and hardscape division completes the retaining walls, pool deck, and special features. We’re a turnkey, white-glove service from start to finish.” While Grand Luxury Pools & Outdoor Living is on pace to complete 25 pools this year, Donnie says the company’s foundation was built long before the first pool was installed. After graduating from Warren County Career Center’s horticulture program, he launched Finer Lawn & Landscaping in 2002. As projects became more ambitious, so did the company’s expertise. “We quickly evolved into a hardscape business, and it was off to the races,” he says. “We didn’t just learn new skills — we mastered them.” Today’s homeowners, he says, are embracing clean, rectangular pool designs, tanning ledges, and sport pools that invite families to spend more time together outdoors. “We’re always looking for the next challenge and the next opportunity to grow,” Donnie shares. “We want to continue transforming backyards one project at a time, but never lose sight that it’s not just about the work ... it’s about the relationships we build along the way.” GrandLuxuryPools.com | FinerLawn.com

Beauty in the

Next Chapter Inside The Skin Cliniq, Loveland’s Newest MedSpa

S KIN CA R E | BEAUTY

Have you ever noticed that on a good hair day, there’s more pep in your step? Or how after a tough workout, you feel like you could conquer the world? When you feel good in your skin, confidence just overflows. That philosophy is the foundation for The Skin Cliniq, a new medical aesthetics spa in the heart of downtown Loveland. Founded by Sally Mills, DNP, the new practice comes as a next step after nearly three decades as an emergency medicine and critical care nurse practitioner. A proceduralist with comfort suturing and performing rapid assessments and interventions, Sally found a natural draw to the precision of skincare and lasers. But her approach remains the same whether she’s in the ER or her serene new office space. “Diagnose the root cause first, then build a plan around it,” Sally explains. “Aging and skin damage happen over time, and meaningful healing takes patience and a plan.” Sally discovered the perfect intersection of her medical background and specialized skincare years ago, beginning with a makeup trial for her daughter’s wedding. And to our readers, I’ll note: the only thing more surprising than learning Sally is old enough to have a married daughter is discovering she has grandchildren. She has the glowing, natural skin of a woman with an unfair advantage, and now she’s ready to share her secrets with all of us. CONTINUED >

Sally and client

Owning her own practice has finally given Sally control over the quality and care her patients receive. Backed not only by decades of nursing experience but also a Master of Legal Studies focused on compliance and the medicolegal aspects of patient care, The Skin Cliniq is rooted in strict safety standards and ethics. This exceptional approach to care begins before the appointment does. “My goal is to never have anyone waiting here,” she asserts, gesturing to the gorgeous front room. Her appointments are designed to be unhurried from the first consultation on. No surprise, Sally’s patients span generations. From teenagers troubleshooting acne and new moms noticing the first signs of aging, to women well into midlife who want to feel like themselves again. A message she hopes to drive home is that medical aesthetics isn’t about drastic change. “It’s not vanity to take care of yourself,” Sally shares. “It’s about supporting the health of the body’s largest organ — your skin! Aging gracefully looks different for everyone.” It’s why she has a solution for every patient. The NOUVADerm laser is a favorite, prized for improving scars and stimulating collagen. “I didn’t know I could love an inanimate object this much!” she laughs. She also offers Cellenis Derma PRP bio-filler, a natural volumizing option using a patient’s own blood, often preferred for under-eye treatment or by those who can’t or don’t want to use traditional filler. Microneedling rounds out some of her favorite offerings, targeting fine lines and enlarged pores while restoring overall texture. But The Skin Cliniq offers more than procedures. Many come in to enjoy a facial or browse new skincare products. SkinCeuticals is Sally’s premier brand, and she is Cincinnati’s premier partner for Jane Iredale, one of the few authorized to carry this makeup line designed for aging or acne-prone skin. After an afternoon touring the space and seeing Sally’s offerings firsthand, I was ready to scrap the rest of our interview and book an appointment myself. So naturally, I asked her to walk me through what firsttime patients can expect. Initial visits start with the Aura 3D Skin Analysis to map what’s happening below the surface, followed by a conversation about goals and options that best suit your skin. But what sets her apart is that Sally isn’t afraid to say no if a treatment isn’t the right fit. “You just get that intuition after nearly 30 years in healthcare,” she says.

“It’s not vanity to take care of yourself ... it’s about supporting the health of the body’s largest organ — your skin! Aging gracefully looks different for everyone.”

Her intuition remains the same, but her new space is wildly different from the emergency room or helicopter. Situated above Curated Fine Furnishing and Design, the natural light and spacious office anchors you in a spa-like serenity. The space is thoughtfully designed by Jill Dowd of Curated FFD, a dear friend of Sally’s who initially brought her to the space. Immediately after seeing it, Sally knew she was home — and our community has embraced her right back. “The response has exceeded every expectation,” Sally shares, noting that support from the City of Loveland and Little Miami River Chamber Alliance has been outstanding. “Being embraced by the community has really made this leap feel worth it.” If you’re ready to explore The Skin Cliniq, you don’t need to wait. Sally will be hosting events this year to introduce neighbors to the space and its services while welcoming this next chapter. “It’s never too late to start over,” Sally adds. Wise words from someone who has found beauty in the path ahead. TheSkinCliniq.com | 113 Karl Brown Way, Loveland 513.586.6977

As Railway celebrates five big years of helping Greater Cincinnati look its best, Brian was eager to share a few of his fondest memories. Here’s to an epic five years — and what’s to come for many more.

Railway Barber Shop

After

Styles on Parade “Two years ago, we performed actual haircuts while on a moving float right through the heart of Loveland,” Brian says. At the city’s 4th of July parade Brian both turned — and fashioned —more than a few lucky tops. First-ever “BarberCade” “Railway Barber Shop is the first of its kind in several respects,” Brian enthusiastically shares, “but one area that really stands out is our famous ‘BarberCade.’” Located in the back of Brian’s shop, the Railway BarberCade offers a constant rotation of free-play pinball machines. “Of course, we also have Frogger,” Brian offers, with a laugh. Railway Barber Shop hosts occasional pinball tournaments, as well.

Before

Tattoo Pop-ups “Last Valentine’s Day, we hosted our first tattoo pop-up event,” Brian says. Local shop Esoteric Tattoo was on hand to skillfully ink a number of sharp creations. Podcasts Railway Barber Shop has also been utilized as a host location for an up-and-coming podcast, one that will highlight a variety of local Loveland legends. Curious to hear more? Ask Brian for the scoop next time you’re passing through. RailwayBarbershopLoveland.com 106 Railroad Ave, Loveland Photo by Steph Meinberg

And, Of Course, a LOT of Haircuts Over the past five years, Railway Barber Shop has handled about 21,000 haircuts. Which means you’ve likely seen Brian and his team’s handiwork on the heads of about 7,000 neighbors throughout the area.

SHOPPERS HAVEN HAS THE STYLE AND FIT FOR KIDS IN NEED

“We wrap kids in care – one outfit at a time.” That’s the mission statement of RePete’s Closet for Kids. One that’s so important to them, they have it hanging up in their office, making it an unforgettable daily reminder for one truly special cause. Because RePete’s Closet is not just a shop that provides gently used children’s clothing to families in need. It’s a space where families can come and shop, letting kids choose clothes that best fit their personal style, outfitting both boys and girls from newborns up through their teen years. And it’s all free. As soon as you walk through RePete’s doors, it’s impossible not to feel welcomed by the staff, including founder and executive director, Linda Bergholz. RePete’s Closet is full of colorful clothing, stocked to the brim, organized and inviting. You can’t help but itch to shop as soon as you walk in and see all they have to offer. The store is bright and friendly, with volunteers who greet you with a smile as they straighten and stock. All of the clothing sits out on shelves just like it would at a high-end boutique … which is the whole point. “We didn’t want it to look like a thrift store,” Linda explains. “We want our families, especially the teenagers, to walk into this place and feel good about it.” And it’s hard not to feel good about such a worthy cause. RePete’s is a donations-based store run entirely by volunteers. “Donations have been phenomenal,” Linda boasts about the Loveland locals who stepped up to help get RePete’s feet off of the ground. Not only through donations of kids’ clothing, but also monetary gifts that allowed RePete’s to purchase new items such as kids’ shoes, socks, and underwear, things that are often better new than donated. So how does it all work? Families in need only need a few simple things to qualify: proof of address that they live in one of the seven zip codes RePete’s provides for (covering most of Loveland, Lebanon, Goshen, Milford, Montgomery, Maineville, Mason, and surrounding areas), that the children live with them, and that they fall within the federal poverty guidelines. “People who come to us to shop aren’t trying to scam the system, they’re not here because they’re trying to take advantage,” Linda explains of the clientele at RePete’s. “They love their kids … and they’re trying to take care of their kids.” So, RePete’s makes it simple. Each child in a family gets 40 points to spend on clothing per quarter, which covers more than it sounds. For example, T-shirts are two points, leggings are three, meaning 40 points can go a long way. And it doesn’t all have to be spent at once — families can make multiple visits per quarter if they’d prefer, because available pieces are always changing. “It’s not like a Macy’s, right? We’re not going to have the same item in different sizes or another in that size,” clarifies Linda. “As long as they have the points, kids can come back and shop as often as they want.” Lovingly named in honor of Linda’s mother, who was known as “Pete” due to her passion for baseball and the legendary Pete Rose, this whole endeavor was built from a place of love and understanding. And Linda has high hopes for what’s to come for RePete’s Closet. “Eventually we’d love to have a van, and people

“Your clothes ref lect your personalit y, ref lect who you are, what you like … we aim to let kids make their own choices about what they want to wear.”

who could go pick up parents to come shop.” Of course, Linda can choose clothing for families who can’t make it to the store, but it’s more personal and empowering when they can come shop for themselves. It means more, giving them autonomy. Giving them choices when so many are often taken from them. What Linda really wants people to know, though, is that each and every family that walks through RePete’s doors has their own story. Even if a family is only there for 10 minutes, that’s 10 minutes that Linda and her team strive to make effortless and easy for them. “Everyone who comes in is an individual person dealing with their own struggles. We have no idea what’s going on in their lives.” On this, she’s adamant. “If what we’re doing here makes even a tiny impact to make their life easier, that’s why we’re here.” Despite their incredible work, Linda and her team are always in need of help, specifically through donations — kids’ clothing, volunteer time, monthly donations, and more. Giving back, paying it forward, taking care of our neighbors in need … RePete’s works to hit grand slams every day, for every family. Ready to step up to the plate? INGREDIENTS: • • • • • •

1 bottle, standard size, of pinot grigio 2 1/2 cups fresh apple cider 1 cup club soda 1/2 cup ginger brandy 3 honey crisp apples, chopped 3 pears, chopped

DIRECTIONS: Combine all ingredients together and stir. Refrigerate for an hour or so (or longer) before serving. The drink can be enjoyed immediately, if desired, but the longer you let the ingredients sit and mix, the deeper the flavors will be. Giving it time to develop will make the drink more captivating and interesting.

NOTE: Regular brandy can be used, but ginger brandy gives it an extra kick of flavor.

sangria A LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL TREAT

As the season transitions into fall, it still features the warm, sunny days of summer but nights start to drop into the crisp temperatures.
