Style That Feels Like You Have you ever noticed how your personal style often finds its way into your home? For me, the connection between fashion and interior design has always been undeniable. The colors, patterns and textures I’m naturally drawn to when choosing something to wear are often the very same elements I love surrounding myself with at home. I’ve always had a soft spot for florals, whether they are on a beautiful dress, a blouse or tucked into a favorite fabric. I’m equally drawn to soft blues and pinks, and those colors have found their way throughout my home. From the subtle pink tones of my sunroom to the floral, outdoorsy wallpaper in my bathroom, the choices feel very much like me. Grey-blue hues are another favorite—and you’ll find them repeated throughout my home and, not surprisingly, hanging in my closet. Perhaps that’s why I believe the best design—and the best fashion—isn’t necessarily about following every trend. Trends can be fun and inspiring, but ultimately, our surroundings and what we wear should make us feel good. Choosing colors, patterns, pieces and spaces that reflect who we are can bring a little happiness and inspiration into our everyday lives. And isn’t that what personal style is really about? Finding what makes you happy. In this month’s Fashion & Style Issue, I hope you’ll be inspired not only by the latest looks and trends, but also by the incredible creativity right here in our community. The same is true for our homes. We are fortunate to have so many talented interior designers and design professionals who can help us create spaces that are beautiful, personal and uniquely our own. As you explore these pages, please take a moment to support the incredibly talented interior design partners featured in our publication—and remember to shop and support our local clothing boutiques and their owners. These small businesses bring creativity, personality and so much style to Lee’s Summit. Here’s to surrounding ourselves with the colors, patterns and pieces that make us smile—and wearing our personal style with confidence.

A BLEND OF FASHION AND FUNCTION 16
FASH ION F OR WA R D | BE AU T Y
A purse does more than hold your phone, keys, and wallet. It quietly pulls an outfit together while also handling the practical side of everyday life. That balance between fashion and function is what makes a great purse feel less like an accessory and more like part of a personal style. Some bags are designed to stand out. A bold color, metallic detail, or structured shape can instantly become the statement piece of an outfit. Even with simple jeans and a white T-shirt, the right purse adds personality and intention. Other times, a purse works best when it blends in. Neutral tones, soft leather, or minimalist designs create a polished look without stealing attention from the rest of the outfit. These subtle bags are often the ones people reach for every day because they work with almost everything. CONTINUED >

Of course, style only goes so far if a purse is impractical. The best bags are the ones that fit real life. A roomy tote helps someone move from work meetings to errands without missing a beat. Even a small clutch has a purpose for evenings out when only the essentials matter. Fashion trends may change every season, but the role of a purse stays the same. It adapts while still serving a purpose. That’s why people often invest in bags they truly love. A good purse is dependable, but it also can make a fashion statement. In many ways, a purse is one of the few accessories that people use every single day. It carries necessities, reflects personal style, and can completely change the tone of an outfit. Whether bold and eye-catching or simple and understated, a purse proves that fashion and function can exist beautifully together.

LUXURY WITHIN REACH
ARTICLE BY LAUREN POWERS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
A designer handbag is more than an accessory—it's a statement piece, an investment, and often the finishing touch that brings an outfit together. At Clothes Mentor Lee's Summit, shoppers can discover luxury handbags from some of fashion's most recognizable brands without paying luxury retail prices. From Louis Vuitton and Gucci to Burberry, Versace, MCM and more, the store's collection is constantly changing as new pieces arrive throughout the week. Because inventory turns over so quickly, every visit offers something different, making each shopping trip feel like a treasure hunt. Today's shoppers are embracing pre-owned luxury not only for the value, but also for the unique styles they can't always find in traditional retail stores. Vintage handbags continue to be especially sought after, with timeless silhouettes and classic craftsmanship making them more desirable than ever. In fact, some vintage luxury bags have held, or even increased, their value over time. Every luxury handbag at Clothes Mentor Lee's Summit is authenticated through a trusted thirdparty service, giving shoppers confidence that they're purchasing the real thing. Whether you're investing in your very first designer bag or adding another favorite to your collection, you'll find carefully selected pieces that combine quality, style, and exceptional value. For those ready to refresh their own closet, Clothes Mentor also purchases designer handbags every day, creating a sustainable cycle that allows pre-loved fashion to continue its story while helping someone else discover the perfect piece. It's luxury shopping that's stylish, smart, and uniquely local.

HOW GENEROUS DONORS AND SPONSORS ARE HELPING SUMMIT CHRISTIAN ACADEMY SHAPE LIVES, STRENGTHEN FAMILIES, AND INVEST IN THE NEXT GENERATION. ARTICLE BY LAUREN POWERS PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES

EDU CAT ION COR N E R | LIF E + CU LT U RE
Behind every classroom, scholarship, athletic field, and student success story at Summit Christian Academy is a community of people quietly investing in something much bigger than a school, they're investing in lives. For Summit Christian Academy, donors and sponsors aren't simply financial supporters. They are ministry partners whose generosity allows the school to continue its mission of providing a Christ-centered education while creating opportunities that impact students for years to come.
“Every gift becomes part of a much larger story of faith, opportunity, and transformation.”

“Every classroom improved, every teacher equipped, every student encouraged, and every future shaped reflects a community choosing to invest in something lasting.”
That impact can be seen across campus. Over the years, donor support has enhanced classrooms, expanded technology, strengthened campus security, improved learning spaces, and created new opportunities in athletics and the fine arts. Most recently, generous giving made possible one of the school's largest improvements to date: a new turf complex featuring two full-size football fields along with the baseball and softball infields, creating spaces where students can thrive academically, athletically, and spiritually. Some of the most meaningful gifts, however, are the ones many people never see. Each year, Summit Christian Academy provides approximately $2 million in financial assistance, opening doors for families who desire a Christ-centered education but may not otherwise have the resources to attend. Beyond tuition assistance, donor dollars also fund classroom resources, professional development for teachers, technology upgrades, campus safety initiatives, student programming, and countless behind-the-scenes projects that help create an exceptional educational experience. Local businesses also play an important role in that mission. Through sponsorships, scholarships, athletic support, and campus improvements, community partners help strengthen not only the school but the Lee's Summit community as a whole by investing in the next generation of leaders. While new facilities and updated technology are easy to celebrate, school
leaders say the greatest impact is found in the individual stories. It's the student who receives financial assistance and discovers a place where they are known, loved, and challenged to grow in Christ. It's the teacher equipped with the resources to inspire learning. It's the athlete, musician, artist, or servant leader who uncovers God-given talents because someone chose to invest in their future. Every gift becomes part of a much larger story of faith, opportunity, and transformation. That is why so many donors continue giving year after year. They see students growing academically, spiritually, and personally, and they recognize that investing in Christian education creates an impact that reaches far beyond graduation. Looking ahead, Summit Christian Academy remains focused on expanding opportunities while staying true to its mission. Continued support will allow the school to strengthen financial assistance, invest in outstanding faculty and staff, enhance campus facilities, and grow academic and extracurricular programs that prepare students to make a difference in their communities and around the world. To every individual, family, church, and business that has supported Summit Christian Academy, the message is simple: thank you. Every classroom improved, every teacher equipped, every student encouraged, and every future shaped reflects a community choosing to invest in something lasting. And because of that generosity, lives continue to be changed every single day.

IS BACK There was a time when wallpaper felt like a relic, something you'd find peeling in an old dining room and immediately plan to remove. That era is over. Wallpaper has made a striking comeback, and at Jami Meek Designs, it has become one of our favorite tools for giving a space real character and depth. CONTINUED >

What changed? For one, the quality. Today's wallpapers are richer, more textured, and far more durable than what previous generations worked with. Grasscloth, hand painted florals, subtle metallics, and bold geometric prints have all found their way back into high-end homes, and they read as intentional rather than dated. Wallpaper has shifted from something you settle for to something you seek out. We also think the appeal comes from what wallpaper does that paint simply cannot. A well chosen pattern adds dimension to a room in a way flat color never will. It can make a small powder bath feel like a jewel box, or give a primary bedroom a sense of quiet luxury the moment you walk in. It's one of the fastest ways to make a space feel finished and designed, rather than just decorated. That said, wallpaper is not a decision to make casually. Two things separate a wallpaper choice that elevates a room from one that overwhelms it: scale and color. Scale matters more than most people expect. A large, dramatic pattern can be stunning

in a spacious entryway with high ceilings, but that same pattern in a small bathroom might feel cramped rather than cozy. Conversely, a delicate, tiny print can disappear entirely in a large room, reading as texture from across the space instead of the statement it was meant to be. We always consider the size of the room, the height of the ceilings, and the amount of uninterrupted wall space before landing on a pattern's scale. The goal is for the paper to feel proportional to the room it lives in, not fighting against it. Color is where the real transformation happens. Wallpaper gives you the chance to bring in color with far more nuance than paint alone. A paper with several tones woven through it lets you pull accent colors into pillows, art, and trim in a way that feels layered and considered. We also pay close attention to how a paper's undertones interact with the room's natural and artificial light throughout the day. A wallpaper that looks warm and inviting in a sunlit showroom can shift entirely under the cooler lighting of an interior hallway. Seeing large samples in the actual room, at di!erent times of day, is a step we never skip. When scale and color are both right, wallpaper does something remarkable. It stops being a backdrop and becomes part of the story of the room. We have used it to turn a builder grade laundry room into a favorite corner of the house, and to give a formal dining room the kind of presence that makes guests want to linger at the table a little longer. Wallpaper's comeback is not a passing trend. It reflects a broader shift toward homes that feel personal, layered, and rich with detail rather than safe and neutral. If you have a room that feels like it is missing something, wallpaper, chosen thoughtfully, might be exactly the elevation it needs.

A LITTLE SOMETHING
for Everyone
Tucked into the heart of downtown Lee’s Summit, Lilac, An Outfit Bar is a small boutique with a big personality. At just 400 square feet, the shop is thoughtfully filled with women’s clothing, accessories, gifts and home fragrance, with new arrivals coming in regularly. Step inside and you can expect more than a quick shopping trip. The three owners take a personal approach to helping customers find pieces they’ll actually love wearing. Whether you need an everyday outfit, something for an upcoming vacation or wedding, or simply a little something new, they enjoy helping put the whole look together. The boutique’s style is approachable, elevated and thoughtfully curated. With three owners and three distinct personal styles, every purchase is chosen together. The result is a collection that feels cohesive while offering plenty of variety. Most importantly, they want customers
to feel comfortable, inspired and welcome. That personal touch is what sets Lilac apart. The owners love getting to know their customers and helping them discover pieces that fit both their style and their lives. And because the shop is constantly receiving new merchandise, there is always a reason to stop in and see what’s new. One of the boutique’s signature offerings is its exclusive Lilac home fragrance, available as both a candle and a diffuser. It is an easy way to bring a little of the Lilac experience home, whether you’re treating yourself or looking for a thoughtful gift. At its heart, Lilac is about making shopping feel personal and fun. With a carefully chosen selection, plenty of fresh finds and owners who genuinely enjoy helping women feel their best, it is the kind of boutique where you can pop in for one thing and leave with an outfit you didn’t know you needed.

OLD WALL, NEW TRICKS HANG UP THE OLD WAY AND TRY A GALLERY WALL HANGING SYSTEM IN YOUR HOME.
ARTICLE BY PAM REID
One of my happy places is sitting in front of a museum wall gallery. I can admire art for hours, and if I’m with a friend, there’s no telling how long we’ll sit, reflect, and share our individual perspectives. If you’ve admired gallery wall displays in magazines, catalogs, or on social media and would like to create one in your home, it’s much easier than you might think.
WHY CHOOSE A GALLERY WALL HANGING SYSTEM? The beauty of a gallery wall hanging system lies in its flexibility and ease of use. Traditional picture hanging methods can leave walls full of holes, making it cumbersome to adjust placements or update the display. A hanging system, however, allows for easy adjustments without additional damage to your walls. This feature is particularly advantageous for renters or anyone who likes to refresh their decor frequently.
DESIGNING YOUR GALLERY WALL The first step in creating a gallery wall is planning. Start by selecting a theme or color scheme that complements your space. Themes can be as varied as black-and-white photographs, abstract paintings, or a mix of personal and artistic prints.
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED: • A gallery wall hanging system, which typically includes mounting rails, cables or rods, and hooks. You can find them pretty much anywhere, online or at your local home improvement store. • A collection of frames and artwork. • A level, measuring tape, and perhaps a laser pointer for precision.

INSTALL ATION TIPS: CREATIVE ARRANGEMENTS • The arrangement of your gallery wall can follow several patterns, depending on your taste: • Linear: Artworks are hung in a straight line at eye level, creating a clean and orderly appearance. • Grid: Perfect for a collection of similarly sized frames, this layout emphasizes structure and uniformity. • Salon Style: This more traditional arrangement involves layering pieces closely together, often extending across the wall. It’s ideal for creating a rich, filled look. Enjoy curating a space that is uniquely yours, evolving with your tastes and lifestyle.
01
MEASURE YOUR SPACE:
Carefully measure the wall space where you want to install the gallery. Consider the height and width available, keeping in mind furniture and other room features.
02
LAY IT OUT:
Arrange your artwork on the floor to finalize your layout. This “dry run” is crucial to get a feel for how the pieces will interact with one another. I like to use painter’s tape to create a visual of what my display will look like on the walls.
03
INSTALL THE RAILS AND HANG YOUR ART:
Following the manufacturer’s instructions, mount the rails at the top of your wall. Ensure they are level and securely attached. Attach cables or rods to the rails, then use hooks to hang your frames. The beauty of the system is that you can adjust the height and position of each piece easily.
04
BALANCE AND SYMMETRY:
Step back to view your layout from different angles. Adjust the spacing and alignment as needed to achieve visual balance.

When Haley O’Neill of Haley O’Neill Home began reimagining the bedroom in her 115-year-old home, she could have approached its quirks as problems to solve. Instead, she saw them as part of the room’s story. Two tiny, almost child-sized closet doors tucked into the dormers and a small window that doesn’t quite align with the others might have been architectural inconveniences, but O’Neill saw them differently. “Rather than trying to disguise those irregularities, I leaned into them and treated them as charming little details you might find in a fairy-tale cottage,” she says. Her goal was to create a room that felt “enchanting, whimsical and calming,” a vision that came together through a mix of historic inspiration, collected pieces and a dreamy color palette. Much of the inspiration came from Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, a National Historic Landmark and summer home of Henry Davis Sleeper, one of America’s first professional interior designers. O’Neill fell in love with Beauport the first time she saw it and has continued to draw inspiration from Sleeper’s imaginative approach to design. “Henry Davis Sleeper wasn’t afraid to be playful or imaginative, and every room has hidden details,” she says. For this bedroom, O’Neill looked particularly to Beauport’s Belfry Chamber, which features Zuber chinoiserie wallpaper covered in flowers, branches, birds and butterflies against a vivid celadon-green background. “Although it is undeniably floral, the vivid green keeps it from feeling overly feminine to me,” she says. “I wanted to capture that same balance in my own room.”
That idea carries through in the bedroom’s color palette. The trim is painted in Little Greene’s Ambleside, a lagoon-like green with blue undertones that picks up the leaves in the wallpaper. “It makes the room feel like an enchanted garden at dusk,” O’Neill says. The effect is dreamy and atmospheric, giving the room an almost otherworldly quality. One of the most meaningful pieces in the room was there from the beginning. The home was purchased as is, and among the many things left behind by the previous owners was a beautifully carved vintage bed frame. It quickly became an anchor for the design and helped set the direction for the rest of the room. Vintage nightstands add to the collected feel, while bedding from Quince keeps the space comfortable and inviting. Lighting was another opportunity to blend beauty with function. Brass swingarm sconces from Pooky flank the bed, providing practical reading light while also pressing back against the wall for a softer glow. “Lighting is so important in a bedroom,” O’Neill says. “WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN AWKWARD ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS BECAME CHARMING FEATURES, PROVING THAT SOMETIMES THE MOST MEMORABLE ROOMS ARE THE ONES THAT WORK WITH A HOME’S HISTORY RATHER THAN TRYING TO ERASE IT.” One of her favorite details is a small but thoughtful one. She placed the light switch above the nightstand, much like you might find in a hotel, so the sconces can be turned off without getting out of bed. And, she says, “I always put bedroom lighting on a dimmer!” The window treatments from TwoPages Curtains complete the room without competing with the wallpaper or architectural details. The result is a bedroom that feels collected rather than overly designed, rooted in the history of the home while still feeling fresh and livable. Most importantly, O’Neill allowed the character of the old house to remain part of the story. What could have been awkward architectural details became charming features, proving that sometimes the most memorable rooms are the ones that work with a home’s history rather than trying to erase it.
