WHO ARE THE INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY? The most inspirational women in my life have been my mother and my wife Wendy. My mom was smart, educated in English at DePauw University, funny and TOUGH. She raised my siblings and me while my dad was defending our country as a fighter pilot and fighter pilot instructor in the United States Air Force. He served in WWII, Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He retired a Colonel after 30 years of service. He was tough, but mom was tougher! My lovely wife, Wendy, is a devoted servant. She is a bookkeeper for Sibley Water Company, Stadia Church Planting and the Praise and Worship Pastor at our church. She also volunteers at Hope House Independence. And, still has dinner on the table for us almost every night. She supports my passions and takes care of all our household needs. WOW, did I win the lottery with those two women.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PASTIME THIS SPRING SEASON? My favorite pastime during the spring is picking up my daughter from school on Friday afternoon and heading over to Fred Arbanas Golf Course. She loves spending time together and getting a snack at the clubhouse before we head home. We recently tried out disc golf on the course at Legacy Park and she seemed to enjoy that as well. My wife enjoys golfing too, so we try to make it a family affair. If you don’t find us on the courses, you will likely find us visiting with the neighbors. We have a wonderful neighborhood and have several gatherings throughout the year; outside while social distancing wasn’t difficult in that aspect over the past year.

My wife inspires me every day. She is an amazing mother to our kids, my best friend and is truly the glue that holds our family together. When we got married, I thought I loved her as much as I could. I was wrong. Now that we are 7 years in, I realize we have grown so much closer and my love for her is so much more. Our family has a place at Stockton Lake, so spring is the beginning of our lake time! We get to enjoy fishing, hiking, running trails and going out on the boat. It is nice to just get away from day to day life and enjoy nature with my wife and our four kids.

I am sure all of us can think back on experiences with our own former teachers, both positive and negative, that influenced how we felt about learning and about ourselves in general. Shelly English is a teacher that is intentional about connecting with every student in her class and meets them exactly where they are. She discovers greatness in each one and inspires them to be the best version of themselves. My oldest son struggled with the tough combination of being both ADHD and gifted simultaneously, and while we now realize those have turned into strengths as a teenager, it can be a very tough combination in elementary school. After kindergarten, his first few years were rough, and as a result, he began to develop a few nervous habits. Thankfully, he was placed in Mrs. English’s 4th grade class at such an influential time in his life. She was like a soothing blanket to his soul, and she found ways to help him overcome those nervous habits without calling attention to them and not only made him feel loved and accepted, but helped him flourish. She was so instrumental in the development of the

LEMON SUGAR SCRUB INGREDIENTS + 1 cup sugar + 1/2 cup avocado or fractionated coconut oil + 20 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil + Juice from one lemon DIRECTIONS Mix the ingredients in a bowl adding more or less oil until desired consistency is achieved. Store in a glass jar with a lid and use within a few days. To use, gently rub over skin. Rinse with warm water and dry with a towel. Your skin will be left silky smooth! You can place the scrub by the sink to be used on hands after washing or left in the shower to be used as a body scrub (just do not use on face).

DETOX FOOT SOAK INGREDIENTS + 1/4 cup epsom salts + 2 tablespoons baking soda + 2 tablespoons salt + Rose Petals (optional) + 5 drops of oil of your choice (Stress Away, Valor, Peppermint or Panaway are suggested) DIRECTIONS Mix salts, baking soda and oil combination of your choice. Fill a foot basin large bowl with warm water and add your mix to the water. Gently stir to dissolve ingredients. Sprinkle rose petals on top of water. Soak your feet for 15 minutes or until the water has cooled. This recipe is for a single foot soak, but I like to make larger batches (2 cups epsom salts, 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup salt) to keep it on the counter until ready to use. If you’re making a large batch for later, just make sure to exclude the oils and dried flowers until you’re ready to use the soak.

Well, scratch no longer. As the warmth of spring settles in for good, Kansas City’s outdoor music venues are back in business, welcoming patrons once again. LARGER VENUES STARLIGHT THEATER Designed by local architect Edward Delk, Starlight Theater officially opened in 1951, hosting plays and musicals. Famously, former president Harry Truman, aptly playing the role of “President” in a production of Mr. President, had to be rushed from Starlight to the hospital at intermission due to a bout of appendicitis. With its sloped seating, towering brick façade, and lush surroundings, an evening spent at Starlight Theater is as delightful as they come. Amey says those working from home are appreciating the ability to take an hour in the afternoon or evening to get out in nature on the lake. Additionally, kids are looking for increased activity outdoors after virtual school. These factors combined with low interest rates have led to a flood of buyers. Amey says they wish there were more sellers in the market, and they have found themselves knocking on doors to see if there are other owners who might consider moving. “We have found buyers are willing to spend more for a ‘packaged deal’ where they not only get a home but also included are outside entertaining spaces—outdoor kitchens and firepits, docks, swimming pools, and great lake access,” she says. “The market for luxury lake properties is definitely up.” In fact, of the homes Amey and her
