IF YOU COULD BUILD A NEW HOME TODAY AND MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
If I had unlimited resources, I wouldn’t buy or build a new home. I’d invest in a historical villa in Italy or France that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. If you’ve ever seen the movie, “An Affair to Remember,” you might recall the scene where Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr go to visit his grandmother. Their ship is docked along the coast of Villefranche, France, and they climb up steps to enter an amazing home with breathtaking views of the sea. Watch the movie and you might also long to live in a place like this! The Mediterranean style of architecture with its rustic, “old world” charm, has always been my favorite. But, more than any style, I love magnificent and incomparable views, especially of a turquoise sea!

MARCH 2021 PUBLISHER
Laura Paszkiewicz | laura@lifestylepubs.com EDITOR
Letter from the Editor THIS MONTH’S ISSUE IS DEDICATED TO HOME AND DESIGN, AND WITH THE UNIQUE YEAR THAT WE HAVE ALL JUST HAD, MANY OF US HAVE SPENT A LOT MORE TIME IN OUR HOMES. We have transformed our space to accommodate in-home classrooms and study spaces, home offices and extra areas for entertainment and working out. I have always enjoyed renovating and redecorating our home, but this year was more about utilizing the space we have in the best way possible for functionality.

I love having my kids at home, but I’m not going to lie—this year has been a lot of togetherness and trying to find ways to accommodate individual needs. With hybrid learning and kids home on zoom classes, my house has felt a little bit like a library with a barrage of text messages received daily reminding me that I need to talk quieter because their zoom class can hear me. I know many of us have learned to be more flexible and creative about how we use and share our space this year. Although it has been challenging to find a new way of learning and working from home, I do value the extra time we have had together. As the temperatures start to warm up, and I dream about our next home renovation project of updating our outdoor living space, I know what truly matters is the atmosphere in our home and the love we give and receive. We really enjoy the media room in the evenings where we relax and watch movies or our latest and favorite series.” AS ONE TOURS THE HOME, THERE ARE SEVERAL NOTICEABLE HIGHLIGHTS. + All the windows allow for the home to be filled with soft natural light from dawn until dusk. The kitchen features custom white cabinetry flush with the wall as well as floating glass shelves and a 12-foot island with a waterfall stone countertop. + The downstairs media room includes a full wet bar and showcases a modern Star Wars art collection. The screened porch off the lower level houses a hot tub, cold tub, and a sitting area with direct walk-out access to the dock and cove. + The home features two master suites as well as two additional bedrooms with a Jackand-Jill bathroom. + The kids’ favorite feature of the home is the loft by their bedrooms that gives birdseye views of the lake and a “kids-only” place to watch movies. In addition to stargazing from the deck or the upper dock, they also enjoy jumping off the top of the two-story dock into the water. Overall, the home is a welcome shift from their primary residence, which is a French Tudor style. It gives them a place to display their modern art collection, procured mostly from the Kansas City Art Institute’s auction as well as from close friends.

David and Noelle agree that being thirty minutes from their Kansas City home makes for a quick and easy drive, yet it is far enough away to feel like a true getaway without the headache and hassle involved with air travel. He also says the proximity and access to their cove off the main channel of the lake allows the kids to swim, kayak and adventure safely without risk of large waves or speeding boats. Through its the sleek and modern design, access to the lake and places to relax, the Manica’s Lake Lotawana home provides for time as family while taking a break from the normal routine of life.

NO VACANCY Opening in this environment has proven the importance of adaptability. The concept pivoted as inquiries began pouring in from small groups wanting to rent out the whole place. The ‘hotel buyout’ allows guests to enter a clean and curated environment and trace all who come in. It’s essentially like stepping into your own personal hotel. Fortunately, the place offers ample room for distancing, a courtyard for outside hangs, keyless check-in, no shared ductwork, and operable windows. OUR TOWN
ARTICLE BRAD ZOLLARS
IF YOU SPEND MORE THAN 15 MINUTES IN THE KANSAS CITY METRO, ONE THING WILL BECOME VERY APPARENT: KC LOVES THEM SOME KC. The pride that residents feel for their town (and the surrounding area) is truly palpable. But what drives a collective populous to outfit in a sea of KC heart tees, wax poetic to outsiders, and root, root, root for the home team? Full disclosure: I wasn’t born in Missouri. Or Kansas. I spent my adolescence shuffling around various states and countries before finally settling down in the KC area, where I’ve remained the last 18 years. But what better person to assess this KC pride than an outsider turned insider? Someone who can put “Paris of the Plains” in context because, well, they’ve been to Paris. Having lived in the Midwest, overseas, and Canada, it was apparent that each of those places had a uniqueness and local camaraderie that stood out. But no locale matched the self-fandom Kansas City possess, it’s rare. It’s intoxicating. To know Kansas City is to love her.

TOP PICKS WITH MEGAN GENSKY INTERIORS
06 1. Antelope is the new black! Everybody loves it, and it's a subtle way to add in some pattern to your space, and who doesn't love a cute ottoman stool? 2. I like to integrate natural elements in a space, and fresh greenery is a nearly impossible look to get in a silk stem. A good solution is to add dried greenery to your space. 3. Tortoise decor elements give a classic and feminine touch to your space. 4. I love anything and everything marble, but it's so fun
07
to have just touches of marble in little accents like this table top frame.
09
5. This decorative lamp adds a nice accent to your space but gives a cozy feel in the evenings. 6. You can't go wrong with a traditional coffee table book. These are so popular right now and are the perfect way to layer items on your coffee table. 7. Lucite is great for a modern chic look while being practical, too.
08
8. It’s all in the details, just like this caned feature on the sides of this chair. 9. Light fixtures are a great way to introduce gold to
10
your space. 10. Abstract art is a great way to incorporate a splash of color to your space. MEGAN GENSKY INTERIORS Phone: 979.209.4238 info@megangenskyinteriors.com www.megangenskyinteriors.com
