LIFESTYLE LETTER

Love Local I don’t know about you, but this time of year, I am always torn. I find myself torn between resisting the commercialization of another greeting card holiday and indulging in all the sweet excuses to enjoy the season. I also just recently survived Christmas, vowed to eat healthier, and then I’m bombarded with more chocolate availability. To do a Valentine’s Day date out or enjoy a cozy night at home? To buy a card or just say a kind word? I usually land somewhere a little in between. We’ll each arrive at different answers based on our preferences and personalities, but what we hold in common is an opportunity to make sure those around us know we love them. And regardless of how you choose to celebrate, we hope the pages of this month’s magazine will help you do just that as we celebrate and highlight what’s to love in Lake Minnetonka. While we teeter between the chill of January winter and the excitement of spring, we hope you’ll be inspired to take a moment to come together with the people in your life. The ones in your home and on your street. In your neighborhood and our community. “Love local” means your local businesses, those in your community - but it also means loving what is near. Those under your own roof included. So grab a coffee at 318, The Lobby, or Dunn Bros and head home for a game night around the fire with the family. Or snag a bottle of wine from Schram Vineyards and some cheese from Kowalskis and indulge in a movie night in. We’ve always believed what we can do together is so much more than what we can do apart. And we continue to see that demonstrated through the many stories told in these pages month after month. Thanks for letting us be a part of the life you’re building, whatever that may look like. Our hope is that we inspire you to love it just a bit more than you did before. Happy February, and we will see you around the Lake!

Our Customers Say it BestMy older Excelsior area home needed repairs and more usable space. With so many home remodelers and builders to choose from, I didn't know where to start. I had seen Danberry Building/Excelsior Design signs in the Minnetonka area for years and within minutes of meeting Jeff and his contracting team in person, I knew I liked them and that my project would be in good hands. Jeff and his team were extremely knowledgeable and insightful discussing my vision to expand my 1920's home with the goal of making the indoor and outdoor space more usable while maintaining its character that I loved so much. Now that the project is complete, I have 3 beautiful new rooms that look like they've always belonged there (a spacious formal entry, living room with custom fireplace & beamed ceiling, and a stunning walk-in pantry). Jeff's team also transformed my steep hillside landscaping (that was once very uneven) to include an amazing stamped concrete patio. Throughout the process, Jeff was always readily available to answer questions, stopped by to ensure things were getting done on time, and most importantly - he made sure that I was happy with how things were progressing. I was extremely impressed with his talented crew who worked nonstop all winter (and during one of the snowiest seasons on record in MN), not only did they do an incredible job with the new additions, but they were also so helpful with decisions, very kind, and always kept me informed of next steps. I am so happy to have chosen Danberry Building Corp and would definitely recommend his team. ~ Gabrielle (Galpin Lake area) For Project Photos Lookup Murray Street on our Houzz

EXPLORING LAKE MINNETONKA NEIGHBORHOODS WITH THE ULRICH REAL ESTATE GROUP

Loving My Minnetonka Beth Ulrich and Chelsey Danielson

Neighborhood ARTICLE BY KENDRA JOHNSON

16

O UR TOWN | HO M E + DESIGN

When you’re house hunting, how much thought do you give to the neighborhood where a house is situated? My guess is not as much as you should. Finding the right neighborhood can be just as important as the house itself, especially if you’re house hunting in Lake Minnetonka and the surrounding area. Real estate experts Beth Ulrich and Chelsey Danielson of Ulrich Real Estate Group have lived and worked in the area for more than 22 years. They know the ins and outs of the Minnetonka real estate market and how to identify the right neighborhood for you.

A mother-daughter duo, Beth and Chelsey, have made names for themselves in new construction and the luxury home market. Beth’s real estate career began in 1993 in the Twin Cities, where she quickly became a top agent working with firsttime homebuyers. When Chelsey graduated college, she began learning the real estate ropes from her mom. Before they knew it, the pair had created a team that Minnetonka area residents could count on. “We have loved working as a mother-daughter real estate team. People find working with both of us allows for consistency and ease when one is available and CONTINUED >

the other is not. Our similarities allow for comfort for our clients and for ourselves,” Chelsey says. When it comes to helping clients discover the right home and neighborhood for them, Chelsey and Beth need to “stay in the know and stay top of mind.” Minnetonka neighborhoods boast everything from ramblers and two-stories to condos, townhomes, and new construction homes. There’s also a strong market for custom and luxury builds. So, knowing what neighborhoods are optimal is an important part of the job. “There is so much variety in such a small community — variety in price, people, and product. Your reputation, knowledge, and networking are what keeps you relevant in the area and in this industry,” Chelsey notes. But, the style of home isn’t the only important aspect of matching the right neighborhood to a client. The amenities found in certain communities set them apart. The Groveland, Oak Knoll, and Minnetonka Mills neighborhoods are perfect examples of how certain neighborhoods attract specific homeowners. The Regatta Wayzata Bay Residence. Luxury condos in downtown Wayzata

18

O UR TOWN | HO M E + DESIGN

The Groveland neighborhood offers stunning views of Lake Minnetonka and a strong sense of community, making it a great option for higher-end, luxury homeowners. The Oak Knoll neighborhood of Minnetonka boasts several exceptional schools and single-family homes — the perfect neighborhood for families with children. The Minnetonka Mills neighborhood is great for active, outdoorsy type homeowners as it features plenty of outdoor parks and trails. These neighborhoods are just a few examples of what Minnetonka has to offer. However, Minnetonka isn’t the only area worth noting. Chelsey’s family recently finished building a new house in a Wayzata neighborhood that she loves. She shares that the “proximity to the city, Lake Minnetonka, our favorite shops and restaurants, and a community that feels like family” is what makes her excited to live so close to Minnetonka. And if you’re interested in a certain neighborhood but aren’t impressed with the housing options, Ulrich Real Estate can help you build a custom home you love. In fact, Chelsey recently became part of a woman-owned development company that builds custom homes for clients. Helping people create their own unique home has been a trend she loves. As we get closer to the spring season, the real estate market will begin ramping up, which means you’ll want to start thinking about what’s important in a neighborhood for you. Is it a tight-knit community and good schools? Parks and trails? Luxury views? Whatever it is you’re looking for, Chelsey and Beth are the perfect duo to help you find it. https://ulrichrealestategroup.com/

WHEN CUPID MISSES

Valentine’s Day is a much-maligned holiday these days. It’s criticized for being too commercial, too manufactured, too consumer-focused, too much. I always loved the childhood Valentine swaps, and I like red- and

22

pink-themed clothing and can even choke down some chalky conversation hearts. There are the charming chocolates in faux velvet heart-shaped boxes. The bouquets of expensive roses in the dead of winter. The cards. Again, the chocolate. Plus, America now boasts a National Tortilla Chip Day and a National Squirrel Appreciation Day. Love deserves at least one day of

recognition if we are devoting time to celebrating chips and squirrels. February 14th, 1987, was one of my favorite Valentine’s. I was a sophomore in high school. And I’ll speak for myself, but high school was a time of intense feelings, obnoxious laughter, a steady diet of cookies and French fries, and boldly exhibiting almost zero common sense. In 1987, my childhood bestie and I sent anonymous Valentine’s down to the front office at school to the two boys we were fixated on that month. Let’s call them Jeff and Aaron since they are named Jeff and Aaron. We waited nervously for their names to be called over the schoolwide intercom system, alerting them that they had something to pick up at the front desk. When we heard JEFF and AARON boom out of the speakers, we were beside ourselves with anticipation. At no point did our fifteen-year-old brains consider what a colossal waste of time this was for the school secretary. She was an integral part of our scheme. We hatched this brilliant plan to set in motion the most memorable, most romantic, most special Valentine’s

nded

Day of all time. We figured these boys would puzzle out that these Valentine’s cards were from us, ask us out (together), profess their undying love, and we’d likely have some sort of awkward double wedding before we even graduated from high school. None of that happened. What did happen was they got the Valentines from the desk. That’s it. They didn’t immediately assume it was us who sent them. They did not magically fall in love with us. They did not track us down through the girl hive at school to uncover our identities. They did not swoon. They did nothing. And because we were fifteen, we were legitimately SURPRISED by this result. While devastated, we needed to move to an alternate plan for the evening of the fourteenth now that the double wedding had clearly been postponed. We ended up at the majestic Eden Prairie Center to see the movie Mannequin and then to Rocky Rococo’s to share a heart-shaped pizza. We spent a large majority of dinner poring over the details of our original plan and where it went awry. We landed on “it’s their loss, and we are better off

without them.” And while it was not a romantic evening, it was filled with love and absolutely memorable. We are still dear friends. We have been friends for forty-five years now and have probably laughed and cried together over more boys than is reasonable. Life lessons in adolescence are often painful but can be valuable in the future. First, never keep love anonymous. No need to waste it. Spend it all. Second, the minds of fifteen-year-olds are a complex and confusing place. Like a funhouse maze with no exits. Teenagers are not mind readers as they are most commonly focused on their own minds. This is actually a very keen insight to be used as a future parent of a teenager. And most importantly, any evening can be salvaged with a good friend, a bizarre movie (a department store employee falls in love with a mannequin who is under an ancient Egyptian spell!?), and hysterical laughter. And if all else fails, celebrate the pizza. Pizza does not disappoint. There are ten national days devoted to celebrating pizza, and I bet very few of them end in heartbreak.

HOW A NON-BAKER BECAME A SWEET SENSATION

NOTHING BUT NOTHING BUNDT CAKES 26

C ULIN A RY C R E AT ION S | F OOD + BE VE RAGE

Kim Cassens, owner of the Nothing Bundt Cakes in Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Eagan, and the Mall of America, admits she is no baker. Her background is in business and marketing, and before coming

And make no mistake, Nothing Bundt Cakes makes a lot of cakes. In a single location, a store can go through more than 350 pounds of eggs and nearly 100 quarts of frosting in a single day. And

“A STORE CAN GO THROUGH MORE THAN 350 POUNDS OF EGGS AND NEARLY 100 QUARTS OF FROSTING IN A SINGLE DAY.” to Nothing Bundt Cakes, she worked as a project manager at a software development company. After leaving her position, Kim stopped in the Eden Prairie store to pick up a bundt cake. After that one cake, she decided it was a business she wanted to be a part of. It was that good. Beyond the bundt cakes themselves, what appealed to Kim was the culture. “It’s a product you can do a lot with in your community.” Not only is Nothing Bundt Cakes a part of so many celebrations big and small for so many families, Kim also partners with The Birthday Party Project to extend her reach even further. The Birthday Party Project is a non-profit that helps to throw birthday parties for kids and families who can’t have them otherwise. Kim provides all of the cakes the Birthday Party Project uses in their Minnesota celebrations.

all of that goes into bundt cakes. “I hesitate to call them bakeries because we only make bundt cakes,” says Kim. She settles on the term ‘bundt bakeries,’ which is fitting for the store’s name. Kim’s initial store was located in Minnetonka. It opened nearly nine years ago, and for most of that time, she only had the one location. Just last year, she took over Eden Prairie, Eagan, and opened the Mall of America location. This expansion is set to continue, with Kim opening a new store in Prior Lake in the first half of this year. From her time as a project manager, Kim uses a lot of the same skills at Nothing Bundt Cakes. “Managing people, building teams and processes” are perennially applicable, as well as “figuring out what’s going to work and what’s not going to work,” says Kim. Kim Cassens

As the business has grown, more and more of her family has come to work with her as well. Her eldest son is her accountant, and her middle son is her director of operations, who plans to take over the business someday. When it comes to Valentine’s Day, Kim is tight-lipped about how bakers can capture some of Nothing Bundt Cakes’ deliciousness. For baking, “follow the recipe,” she says simply. If, like Kim, baking isn’t your forte, Nothing Bundt Cakes is unveiling a number of cakes just in time for Valentine’s Day. The new flavor, Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter, comes out this month. In addition to their regular bundt cakes, for February, bundt cakes can come in towers with wrapping for that extra touch. Whether it’s for a birthday, a special occasion, or simply an excuse to try a new flavor, Nothing Bundt Cakes provides the best. www.nothingbundtcakes.com

HOW VI BEAUTY LAB DELIVERS CONNECTION AND LOVE FOR EVERYONE WHO WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR

Beauty That is More Than Skin Deep ARTICLE BY SARA SCHLUETER HOEMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANNIE SCHABER PHOTOGRAPHY

Dani Anderson

30

S ELF CA R E | ST Y LE + B EAUTY

Opened in March 2020, right before a global pandemic, Vi Beauty Lab in Wayzata has been serving the community with open arms and hearts. “When we started, I had heard this idea that we are sent to love each other and love the human in front of you. I thought my purpose was to change the world, but I thought, ‘How can I do this?’ In that moment, the answer was all I have to do is love people,” says owner Danielle ‘Dani’ Anderson. Showing up every day to serve others is no easy task, but Dani and her team vow to love every human that comes through the door—just the way they are. “We believe when we show up to work with positive assumption, we are better, and the people we serve are better,” says Dani. She prides herself on cultivating a culture of love, empathy, and vulnerability with her team, which, in turn, translates to their clients. “If you give people a safe space, they will go there. We have clients that really open up to us,” says Dani. “This is because we show up with each other, and even our clients can feel it when they come in the door. That is why they feel so loved.” Creating value and mission was integral to Vi Beauty Lab. In fact, Dani created her core values “before I even had a team or chairs.” The core values of bravery, connection, curiosity, grace, grit, and possibility keep

the entire business grounded and serve as a way for everyone to hold each other accountable and be vulnerable. “Beauty and these values are so connected,” says Dani. “We don’t make people feel confident when they come to us. That comes from something inside. I believe what you feel inside is attached to the outside,” reflects Dani. Clients get a space to share the beauty treatment they might want but then also have the space to dig a little deeper to be the best version of themselves—inside and out. Besides the feeling of love and inclusivity, clients can expect an array of beauty services and treatments from top-notch professionals. Some of the most popular skin services are Vi Dermaplane, wrinkle relaxers, and Vi Signature Facial. “Our team shows up for you,” says Dani. “If you are able to make that appointment, spend the money on yourself, and take the time to be here, we better be showing up for you!” Give your skin (and yourself!) the love and pampering you deserve, and book an appointment at Vi Beauty Lab. Or give that special someone the gift of self-indulgence during this season of love. Visit vibeautylab. com for more information, to purchase a gift card, or to book an appointment.

Sculpting a Lifestyle You Love HOW ARTIST CRAIG SNYDER HAS LEFT HIS MARK ON OUR CITY

Someday, if there is a competition to enter for those of us who enjoy painting with watercolors in coloring books, please let me know. While I wouldn’t expect to win a grand prize for the many pages I have painted to date, I can’t deny its therapeutic benefits. When I carve out that precious hour or so from an already too-hectic schedule, my blood pressure subsides immediately. A tranquility fills my mind and soul, which becomes my personal grand prize. I doubt anyone would call it “art,” but I love how it simplifies my day, even if for an hour. Perhaps art is medicinal. After all, just as an aspirin can relieve the pain of a headache within a short time, my mood improves significantly from the first stroke of the brush and lasts throughout the remainder of the day. I recently met local sculptor Craig Snyder from Plymouth to ask about his metal sculpture “FIREFALL,” which sits prominently in front of the Hopkins Center for The Arts entrance on Mainstreet in Hopkins. From the moment we sat down, I saw something very different in his eyes. I could only compare it to the excitement seen in a child’s eyes on the eve of Christmas. As he spoke of his sculpting, his personality bubbled to the surface with enthusiasm. There truly was a sparkle in his eyes that elevated my interest to learn more. For many years, Craig made a living as a web designer and still does. However, in 2009, he felt an urge to do something different. Craig decided to take an eight-week-long welding class at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts in Orono. As if magical, he fell in love with the art of welding, and as with anything one pours their heart into, his talents began to exceed even his expectations. Today, there are many very large “Craig Snyder sculptures” around our country.

Craig Snyder and his sculpture 'Firefall'

The colorful FIREFALL sculpture that welcomes all visitors to the Hopkins Center for the Arts is eleven feet tall. At times, it is necessary to use a flatbed and crane for the installation of his larger sculptures. Craig’s “Moment of Tangency” is 20 feet tall and can be found at the Bridgewater Bank in St. Louis Park. I was curious about the inspiration for this piece so I asked Craig if he could expound. “Life is a series of connections. We crave a meaningful relationship between ourselves, our colleagues, and the natural world. There’s a moment of tangency in everyone’s life as we make that incredible journey, which leads to joy, sorrow, and the entire range of human emotion. We never know who we will meet on the path,” says Craig. I wondered if it was difficult to find supplies for his larger pieces, and apparently, it is not. Who knew there are actual metal warehouses here in Minnesota where he can find stainless steel and aluminum pieces large enough to weld into these amazing pieces of art? Craig occasionally will use found objects that he picks up from recently demolished buildings but doesn’t need to rely on that source alone. I was also curious about his usage of color in some of his pieces. “I have always loved color in sculpture, so I have used color since the beginning. The problem is maintenance. The sun and elements are brutal on color, so it must be repainted or stained regularly.” CONTINUED >

“Sculpting is my thing; working in three dimensions appeals to me in so many ways. I enjoy the collaboration and teamwork when putting together a large piece. It’s really the ultimate showcase for my work.”

Craig enjoys talking about his craft. “It’s kind of fun. I love meeting people who are enthusiastic about a new, commissioned piece that I am working on in their area.” He continues, “Sculpting is my thing; working in three dimensions appeals to me in so many ways. I enjoy the collaboration and teamwork when putting together a large piece. It’s really the ultimate showcase for my work. It’s out there for all the world to see, to love it, or leave it.” When asked how he would like to be remembered, he replied, ”Ideally, I’d like to be remembered as a great and well-known sculptor who made amazing public art. If not that, I’m happy just to be known as a person who enjoyed his family, friends, and life.” See more of Craig’s incredible work here: Fireshapes.com

Founded by George and Dee Gunderson, Gunderson’s Jewelers has been bringing smiles and beauty into people’s lives for over 75 years. Still family-owned and operated, its high standards of customer service, selection, quality, and integrity have been passed down from generation to generation. Today, their grandson, Brian Gunderson, is the owner and CEO, taking over from his father, Gary, in 1999. “I know there are other family-owned businesses in town, but you don’t see that a lot anymore,” says Wayzata store manager, Samantha Bergmann, who has been with the company for 10 years. “It’s not a rare occurrence to have Brian or Breanne, our president, walk into the store and hang out with us for a day or two.” Whether celebrating a marriage, birth, graduation, or other happy occasion, many families love honoring a milestone with a special piece of jewelry or a stately timepiece. “We have all these special moments and it’s very exciting to mark those with a piece of jewelry or a watch that can be passed down to family members,” she says. “It’s just one of those things that can last a lifetime.” CONTINUED >

Of course, Valentine’s Day is one of these occasions where people want to delight and surprise their loved ones with a special gift. It’s a busy time of year for the store with customers looking for just the right thing to express their love and appreciation for the important person or people in their lives. “We definitely have a great assortment of pieces and something that would hit everybody’s price point,” says Samantha. “Some of my favorites would be from our newer line called Messika. It’s all about how diamonds move and how the light plays with the different diamonds. It’s just a really fun and unique look.” With its array of delicate and lovely rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, customers can buy one piece or mix and match to make their own collections. “And for men, we have a very extensive line of watches,” she says. “We carry some that are only offered by us in the Twin Cities like IWC Schaffhausen and ORIS. They make some really fantastic timepieces for men. We also carry William Henry, which has some fun gifts and unique bracelets for men.” If a customer doesn’t want to choose from all that’s available in the store or has a particular image in mind, Gunderson’s can make a custom piece and turn their vision into reality. Whether it’s an image in someone’s mind or on a piece of paper, the master jewelers and designers can create exactly what’s desired. “Our team here is very capable and willing to help with a custom piece,” says Samantha. “We do tons of them as a company and especially here in the Twin Cities.” Another option is to repair or remake a piece of beloved jewelry. “We have an in-house jeweler who’s absolutely fantastic and very talented with coming up with ideas for revitalizing pieces that might not be someone’s current style.” Of course, Valentine’s Day is not just for romantic partners. Often, customers want to buy something for their parents or other family members. For this, Gunderson’s is a one-stop shop. There are wonderful home items including pretty heartshaped crystal bowls and culinary options. “We have very nice kitchen knives,” she says. “They also come with a beautiful wooden display.”

40

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | BEAU T Y

One of Samantha’s personal favorite offerings are the Mova Globes. “They are interesting and beautiful pieces that can go on any desk or bookshelf. They’re self-moving globes, so they will spin by themselves.” There are a handful that are sports-related, and some that depict a map of the world and other intricate motifs. If customers aren’t sure what to get that special person in their lives, the staff at Gunderson’s, with their years of experience, can make it easy. “Our customers become part of our family,” she says. “Our entire staff takes the time to listen to exactly what a customer is looking for and makes sure they’re getting what is perfect for their wants and needs.” The company also strongly believes in giving back to the communities in which it does business. Some of the ways it does this is by holding special fundraisers and donating funds to the American Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, Boys & Girls Clubs, the Masonic Children’s Hospital, and many more. What started out as one man mastering watchmaking many years ago, and then opening a store in Sioux City, IA, while expanding into diamonds, precious gems, other luxury jewelry and amazing

gifts, now has multiple locations and is still growing. In addition to the Sioux City and Wayzata store, Gunderson’s can be found in Sioux Falls; SD, Omaha; NE, Fargo; ND, and coming soon, a 25,000-square-foot store in Omaha’s Heartwood Preserve. To find an unforgettable and special gift for that amazing someone in your life, visit a store or see all they have to offer on their website and on Instagram. Bring smiles and joy not only for the holiday, but all year round. Gundersons.com

Spotlight: Danberry Building Corporation FROM THE BLUEPRINTS TO THE BUILD, HOW JEFF DANBERRY HELPS YOU CREATE YOUR DREAM HOME The Richter Home After Remodel

The Richter Home Before Remodel

“I’m the guy you go to when you don’t know where to start with your home project. I’m like MacGyver, the one you go to solve problems as they arise,” laughs Jeff Danberry, owner of Danberry Building Corporation and Excelsior Design Group. Jeff is your guide through what can be an overwhelming process and helps navigate the maze of regulations

Jeff explains informal spaces begin with the garage entry and should open to the mudroom and then into a kitchen. Formal spaces start with the front entry and open to the staircase and formal dining room. The kitchen and family room are in between the informal and formal spaces. When your floor plan follows this grouping pattern, your space flows and feels more inviting. Next, Jeff focuses on the views. “To create a space you love, we highlight the views you want to see or block those you don’t want to see,” laughs Jeff. “Nina and Jon’s original floor plan didn’t optimize the amazing lake views they wanted. So, if you have a wooded area or river or pond, we create a design where you can enjoy the beautiful view. Likewise, we can block a neighbor’s house or a busy road.” Jeff and his team make the entire process seem effortless. “Over the past 30 years, I’ve put together an excellent crew of people I rely on. Each project is personal for us, and if there’s a problem, I’ll be the one to come out to solve it,” says Jeff. While tackling your next home remodel project may initially seem overwhelming, now you know exactly where to start. Learn more and connect with Jeff and his team at www.excelsiordesigngroup.com

and details that come with a remodel project or home build when you don’t know what to do first — go to the bank? City? Builder? Create the plans? “The Danberry Building Corp. has the contracting license, and I created the Excelsior Design Group as the design side. This way, we can be involved in the process from the beginning and ensure not only everything stays within budget but that everything follows regulations and zoning procedures set up by the city,” explains Jeff. “So many times, clients have come to me with plans that are not set up very well; if you do things out of order, you can pay for plans that are not buildable.” Jeff and his team helped Nina and Jon Richter navigate this process with a complete remodel, transforming their house into a home they love. “We wanted to create a home we could enjoy retirement in,” shares Nina. “Jeff listened to us and understood what we were trying to achieve. He provided us with his advice and different options, allowing us to make decisions we loved. The lines of communication were always open.” “We rearranged the entire floor plan and added some square footage,” says Jeff. “The laundry room and master suite are both now on the main level with walk-through dual master walk-in closets. We removed the fireplace to create an open floor plan, and we created a plan so everything has lake views — the kitchen, family room, deck, and master bedroom, and you have a clear view of the lake right when you walk in the front door.” “The final result ended up great,” says Nina. “The space is calming, with a great flow and tons of natural light. We love the one-level living, and our new, big dining room is fabulous for entertaining. For us, it’s just perfect.” Creating a home you love is Jeff’s specialty. “Basically, what I do is listen,” says Jeff. “You discover what they’d like to do and their pain points. One of the first things you do, and what I did with the Richter’s home, is group the formal and informal spaces together. For example, if you walk in from the garage and enter immediately into the dining room, it feels wrong.”
