September is known as the fashion and style issue in the magazine world, and we are thrilled to participate in the trend. Not only are we into bringing you fashion trends in the pages of our publication, but we are also sharing stylish real estate, interior spaces, artwork, and trendy hotspots around town. Styles are ever-changing, and the fashion world continuously brings us a fresh new take on something from generations past or entirely new con cepts for us to enjoy. Each decade has its own unique trends, and although some cycle back decades later, the originality of each look that is reflected is connected to the culture and music of the day.  this issue, we’ll introduce you to our friend and neighbor  Tatiana Shabelnik . She’s a Laguna Niguel resident as well as an internationally acclaimed fashion designer and photographer. I first met Tatiana a few years ago during an OC Fashion Week event at the Ritz-Carlton. She’s extremely talented and a hard worker dedicated to her craft, and her community—and it shows in her amazing designs. With the changing of seasons comes the time for a closet refresh, and we have you covered with where to find some best boutiques around that are now presenting the newest fall styles for women. Fashion choices can reveal a little bit of our personality, so it is a great way to express ourselves. So bring on fall in your own best style, and we will see you around town!

LOCAL LIMELIGHT | LIFE + CULTURE Jeff von Waldburg ARTICLE BY MIKE GERARD | PHOTOGRAPHY BY KAREN REUTER Panoramic Software President and CEO Discusses Work and Family Life in Laguna Niguel Jeff von Waldburg 14

YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE LAGUNA NIGUEL MILITARY SUPPORT COMMITTEE. WHAT’S THAT LIKE? It's an honor. I am not a Veteran, but because of the work my company does, I've become very passionate about helping our Nation's Heroes. The military support committee has collected baby supplies for expecting mothers on base. We're also planning a car wash in September and a fundraiser in October. It's a great cause. WHAT OTHER COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH?

I moved to Laguna Niguel in 1999, so 23 years now. I grew up in a small rural town in Northern California.  I still remember driving down Crown Valley Parkway for the first time and being blown away by the parks, sidewalks, and shopping centers. Perfect weather and next door to the most beautiful beaches in the world. I've never left.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAINTAIN WORK/LIFE BALANCE?

15|

My wife and two daughters keep me busy and grounded. I love spending time with them and walking our dog Rosie. I attend lots of dance and cheer events.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY... AND WHAT DO YOU ALL DO FOR FUN? My beautiful wife is incredible. She launched a healing platform called Our New Earth. We're both strong advocates for victims and are involved with anti-human trafficking organizations. My daughters stay busy with sports, dance and social life. I love see ing them light up with excitement, so whatever they're into, I fully support.

I would love to open a Jiu Jitsu school and teach. I earned a black belt from one of my heroes Royce Gracie in 2020. I learned so much about myself from sports growing up, and Gracie Jiu Jitsu has con tinued to change my life as an adult. I would love to pass that on to kids and adults in our community.

Panoramic Software uses technology to make government agencies more efficient.  We do that by streamlining and automating processes. There are very good, dedicated people who work in govern ment, but there is a massive bureaucracy. We help reduce overhead and give our users access to infor mation when they need it.

IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE A DIFFERENT JOB IN A DIFFERENT INDUSTRY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN LAGUNA NIGUEL AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT IT?

We recently caught up with long-time Laguna Niguel resident, Jeff von Waldburg . Jeff is President and CEO of Panoramic Software, Inc.--a technology company that helps government agencies operate more efficiently.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS, PANORAMIC SOFTWARE. WHAT DOES IT DO?

In the early 2000s, I coached football at Dana Hills which was great. I also coached NJB basketball before I had kids. Then I coached my daughters in soccer. Lots of coaching :) I also led our Adventure Guides Circle for two years. If you have young kids, definitely get involved in this YMCA group. We went camping, off-roading, and boating to Catalina. The memories are priceless.

I'm most proud of our Veterans product, VetPro. VetPro is used by State and County Veteran Service Officers to help disabled Veterans receive earned benefits from the VA. Over the past 15 years, VetPro has facilitated over 6 billion dollars in award payments to disabled Veterans in California alone. I'm incredibly proud of the fact that we pro vided free access to VetPro during 2020 so that offices could continue serving Veterans remotely using our remote signature and document sharing functional ity. This kept vulnerable Veterans safe at home and on track to receive earned benefits.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO?

TATIANA SHABELNIK: THE POWER OF CONTRAST

Meet Tatiana Shabelnik… an internationally acclaimed fashion designer and photographer who lives right here in Laguna Niguel. Born in the Soviet Union, Tatiana had no idea what life in the West was like as a child. Nevertheless, she has always believed in dreaming big, uniting world cultures, and making a positive impact through fashion.

Her creations have been featured in publications throughout the world including L’Officiel Australia, Los Angeles Times, VOGUE UK, GLAMOUR UK, GQ UK, TATLER UK, Madame Magazine (Dubai), and oth ers. She is highly regarded in fashion circles and loved by models and artists alike. Most importantly, Tatiana Shabelnik is a philanthropist with a giving heart and feet on the ground. A longtime Rotary Club member, she is always looking for ways to give back to the community and serve the greater good.

Tatiana Shabelnik is a brand that values diversity and is incredibly passionate about female empower ment. Her garments are all one-of-a-kind and sustainability conscious. Contrasting contemporary Los Angeles glitz and glamour with a vivid ancestral past, Tatiana Shabelnik’s brand philosophy embraces the concept of “Contrast.” Her designs express a dramatic cosmopolitan fusion of bold colors and unexpected textures, inspired by the colorful work of artists Marc Chagall and Wassily Kandinsky. Tatiana’s chic, timeless designs reflect traditional folk dresses; and her selection of bold colors cele brates the spirit of risk-taking, physical confidence, vivacious competition, and independence. This is the same spiritual force that guided her own life journey from East to West. Tatiana’s signature use of orange reflects enthusiasm, warmth, and happiness while also capturing energy and cheerfulness.

During the meeting, Burnham Ward Properties President and Partner, Bryon Ward, and Sares Regis Managing Director, Chris Payne, presented to the City Council, City staff, and a full audience of com munity members and stakeholders. The architecture pre sented pays homage to Laguna Niguel’s ranching heritage, with the use of natural woods, steel and stone depicting an agrarian modern feel to evoke the impression that the buildings and site were developed over time. “We have been incredibly detailed and thoughtful in our design to highlight Laguna Niguel's deep ranching, agrarian roots and commitment to open space. We pushed the design to deliver a unique Napa Valley-esque experience that will prioritize food offerings and great spaces between the buildings - all in a vibrant mixed-use and dynamic livework setting,” Mr. Ward said. “Not only does the architec ture respect Laguna Niguel's history, we will also include romantic patio spaces, meandering paseos, herb gardens, water features and a range of public art within the project that will continue to tell Laguna Niguel’s unique story for future generations."

Mayor Elaine Gennawey noted that residents will no longer have to travel to neighboring cities for the best culinary experiences. “My City Council colleagues and I fully sup port the Laguna Niguel City Center and look forward to the dynamic mix of restaurants, retail, new library, and ame nities that this brings to our city,” Mayor Gennawey said.

The unique and distinct architectural concept and proj ect features were influenced by numerous public meetings and input received from community stakeholders.  “We are very appreciative of the community's interest in the property and willingness to engage with us to help shape the best project possible for the site.” Mr. Payne said.  “Our community engagement efforts were well received and input from city staff, community leaders and concerned citizens was a critical component of how the project evolved over multiple years leading to approval of this iconic project which we anticipate will become the heart of The Laguna Niguel City Center isthe city.”  a great example of how public-private-partnerships (P3s) work to benefit the residents within the County of Orange. Lisa Bartlett, Fifth District Supervisor, has long been a strong supporter and advocate for P3s across the County. “This project demon strates the many benefits of P3s and will not only allow for a long-term revenue stream for the County with no taxpayer burden, it will also be a tremendous asset for the City and residents of Laguna Niguel,” said Supervisor Bartlett.

In many ways, the challenges of 2020 proved to be a blessing in disguise, pushing The Ecology Center to lean deeply into its values for ecology, economy, and equity in the local food system.

Today, with the annual participation of 150,000 community members and over 30 programs providing nourishment, education, and cultural enrichment, they find themselves ahead of schedule on the path to building a Village into a world-class destination for collaborative change, and a replicable model for communities around the world. The Ecology Center is located at 32701 Alipaz St in San Juan Capistrano.  theecologycenter.org

Organizers describe Campesino as a bright and wel coming environment where the community can gather over ethically sourced coffee drinks, hand-blended teas, juices pressed from fresh farm produce, and light breakfast and lunch fare that celebrates the center’s cropOpenrotation.tothe public five days a week, the offering will be more than simply an inviting new point of entry in the community - it will serve as another arm of experiential education, showcasing the commercial viability of their regenerative ethos through a work ing demonstration of a zero-waste, closed-loop food and beverage model. As they put it, “learn by doing” never tasted so good. Our community invites you to join us in this public gathering place where individuals, families, locals, and visitors, can connect over healthy food, experi ence the reality of a healthy village, and leave inspired to foster healthy change in their lives.

Farm-to-Table comes to life at The Ecology Center with the opening of Campesino Café this month. Since its founding in 2008, the San Juan Capistrano nonprofit has been on a mission to nourish and inspire the community with the vision of an ecological food future. Planned for a September opening, Campesino Café will be at the center of The Ecology Center's efforts to engage the community with a taste of the abundance that is possible through the creative collaboration for the health of people and the planet.
