SLEIGH BELLS ARE RINGING, AND HALLS ARE DECKED. Boys and girls are donning their finest attire and best behavior knowing that Santa Claus is coming to town. The fireplaces are warm, and the hearths welcoming. Gathering with our loved ones over the holiday season is something many of us look forward to all year. There is something so very special about this time of year that warms a person's heart. From children dancing with excitement in line to see Santa, to the anticipation of a new dress and working feverishly on a Christmas list, baking cookies with your mother, grandmother—or both if you’re that lucky—and visiting the Kiwanis tree lot with grandpa to select the perfect tree; it’s all big stuff this time of year, and it’s all about the little ones. The little ones, and of course, giving. During the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I hope we can all take a moment to look around, absorb our surroundings and our abundances, and open our hearts to those who might need a little extra love and support or a bit more encouragement this time of year. It might be carrying someone's groceries if they are struggling or buying someone's groceries if they are struggling in a different way. Maybe you volunteer downtown and serve meals in the busy kitchens that feed our homeless, or perhaps you stay home and make your donations online. The beauty of giving is that it's your choice, and it reflects on your heart. This truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Kirkland Lifestyle readers. AL LOCKE PAVILION An icon in Kirkland, the Marina Park Pavilion, has officially been named after Kirkland’s first City Manager and will forever be known as the Al Locke Pavilion. Al's family, friends and Kirkland city officials gathered to celebrate him during this touching ceremony. In 1970, Al obtained a federal grant to develop downtown Kirkland’s waterfront park, which is home to the pavilion.
