Driven Together: Amy and Tom Buckley of Salt Lake City Motorcars

A Magical Day Awaits

A Tribute to the Gentlemen

Hello neighbors, and welcome to the gentlemen’s issue!

Ever since we started this journey a year ago, I’ve been looking forward to this issue. Not just because I’m a man and I like man stuff, but because I think that sometimes in our social media world with its focus on celebrity, image, and trends, we often forget to celebrate the average, hardworking men who do ordinary things in extraordinary ways. Men who show up, put up, and keep up with the ever increasing demands of modern life. Don’t get me wrong, most often these incredible men are married to equally incredible women. But just for a moment, let’s salute the hardworking men who wear multiple hats: dad, soccer coach, landscaper, handyman, bicycle repairman, church leader, and partner.

Like most men, I have a not-so-small obsession with luxury sports cars. That’s why we’re thrilled to feature Tom and Amy Buckley of Salt Lake City Motorcars. The Buckleys are as classy as the cars they sell. Humble, kind, and constantly (and quietly) serving others. In fact, they received the 2025 South Jordan Corporate Citizen Award for their generous involvement in the community.

Then there’s Zach Kemp with Picture Perfect Homes. Zach is one of those guys who sees an opportunity to improve the way something is done, and then makes it happen. Not only has he built a business that serves the community, but he also provides a mentoring atmosphere for youth to learn new skills and get a solid start in life.

What gentlemen’s issue would be complete without highlighting our community’s premier men’s grooming lounge, Hammer & Nails? Serial entrepreneur Damien Olsen’s new endeavor is a refuge for the weary warrior. A man cave where guys can come to relax, recover, and rejuvenate.

Finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t provide some tips on regaining and maintaining optimal men’s health. Luckily, our local expert Dr. Kat Lofley of Renewal Aesthetics and Sexual Wellness has a wealth of experience helping men look and feel their best. Her insights and recommendations will help you feel like the best version of yourself again.

I hope you enjoy this tribute to the gentlemen.

Tom and Amy Buckley’s

Full Throttle Success of Salt Lake City Motorcars

DRIVEN TOGETHER

For Tom and Amy Buckley, the road to building one of Utah’s premier luxury automotive dealerships didn’t begin with a grand plan—it started with grit, long hours, and a shared belief in what hard work could create.

“Tom started selling Chevrolets in Memphis, TN in 1991 to pay for college,” Amy recalls. “I started working as a receptionist at a Toyota, BMW, and Mercedes dealership in Florida in 1993.”

Their personal and professional lives quickly intertwined. Married in 1995, both climbed steadily, learning every department in dealerships. Today, those experiences are the foundation that defines their hands-on leadership style.

POWERED BY PARTNERSHIP

Spending nearly every moment together—at work and at home—might challenge most couples. For the Buckleys, it’s their greatest strength.

“Working together is all we’ve ever known,” Amy laughs. “We bounce back and forth between work, life, and kids all day long. We discuss the kids and grandkids at work, and we also discuss work when we’re at home.”

Their four children are spread across the country— from Idaho to Tennessee to Virginia—and their growing family now includes two young granddaughters.

Their family and constant working connection has shaped a partnership that’s defined by immense respect for one another and each other’s talents. And after decades together, their relationship is one of trust and instinct.

BEHIND THE WHEEL OF SALT LAKE CITY MOTORCARS

With more than 65 years of combined dealership experience, launching Salt Lake City Motorcars in July 2021 was a calculated next step. Paired with what they describe as an “incredibly intense work ethic,” that confidence helped them establish a dealership that feels as personal as it is prestigious.

Their long-term working relationship with Bentley proved pivotal, ultimately helping them secure both Bentley and Lamborghini franchises that’s positioned them among an elite tier of automotive retailers in Salt Lake City. They added Lotus and Aston Martin to their offerings as well.

But for the Buckleys, success isn’t defined by the brands they carry—it’s measured by how people feel when they walk through the door.

REDEFINING THE DEALERSHIP EXPERIENCE

Step inside Salt Lake City Motorcars, and the difference is immediate. “Whether it’s a teenager who is excited about the brands or a seasoned Bentley owner, we want everyone who walks through the door to feel like a friend,” Amy says.

It’s less showroom and more an experience in southern hospitality and genuine connection.

“It’s not uncommon to see us on the sales floor helping customers find their dream cars, under a hood in the service department, or problem solving alongside our staff,” she explains. “Our priority is to set the highest customer experience and ensure every customer interaction is unparalleled,” Amy continues.

“Whether it’s a teenager who’s excited about the brands or a seasoned Bentley owner, we want everyone who walks through the door to feel like a friend.”

THE EMOTIONAL PULL OF CARS

For Tom, the love of cars began with a single image of a 1989 Lamborghini Countach photographed by Brad Wagner under the Golden Gate Bridge.

The lasting impression it left on him is something he recognizes in customers today and it’s what draws people to certain vehicles.

While the automotive industry continues to evolve, Tom remains passionate about an earlier era. “Naturally aspirated V12s before digital technology came on the scene were a true driver’s car,” he muses.

At the same time, he’s not immune to innovation. “The performance and technology of Pininfarina is mind blowing and unexpected,” he adds, pointing to the future of high-performance design.

Those features are shifting the luxury automotive world rapidly. “Luxury customers are demanding more technology and performance upgrades than ever before,” Tom says.

At the same time, a new generation of buyers is entering the market. “As more people enter their 40s and 50s and have the ability to buy their teenage dream car, the collector’s market has grown exponentially.”

PRECISION, POWER, AND PURPOSE

Despite working in the world of luxury automobiles, the Buckleys’ perspective remains grounded in community.

“The City of South Jordan has been so welcoming, accommodating, and supportive to our business and customers,” Amy says. And the Buckleys take every

opportunity to give back through support of children’s causes, service members, and first responders.

Last year, South Jordan City presented its 2025 South Jordan Corporate Citizen Award to Tom for their active involvement in the community.

“The largest private contribution to our Gold Star Families Memorial Monument came from Salt Lake City Motorcars,” Mayor Dawn Ramsey stated. “They’ve always been so generous and have been warmly embraced by the community.”

DRIVING UTAH’S LUXURY MARKET

The Buckleys people-first mindset has helped shape the way they hire, lead, and grow, influencing everything from client relationships to longterm strategy.

“We would love to add a few more franchises to the portfolio and expand our facility,” Amy says of the next five to ten years.

With a loyal clientele and a team that reflects the standards they value most, they’ve built their reputation on trust, consistency, and the belief that exceptional service begins behind the scenes.

As the couple looks ahead, growth remains part of the vision, but only if it aligns with the culture they’ve worked so intentionally to create.

“A successful business is built on culture and its people,” Amy concludes. “If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.”

Ultimately, success for the Buckleys isn’t just about cars. It’s about the journey, the people, and the partnership that’s been driving it all along.

When Good Isn’t Good Enough

WHY MEN'S HEALTH DESERVES A CLOSER LOOK

MORE THAN

SKIN DEEP

For many men, a doctor’s visit happens only when something is unmistakably wrong. Preventative care, hormonal health, and sexual wellness often fall to the bottom of the priority list, dismissed as unnecessary, too personal, or simply not discussed. But according to Dr. Kat Lofley, nurse practitioner and founder of Renewal Aesthetics and Sexual

Wellness, that mindset is quietly costing men their vitality, confidence, and long-term well-being.

“Men are underserved and undertreated,” says Dr. Lofley, whose career spans urology at a VA hospital’s Male Sexual Dysfunction Clinic to advanced training as a women’s health nurse practitioner and certified nurse midwife.

“I wound up in urology by accident, but I loved it,” she observes. “Having that background in men’s health is part of what positioned me in private practice as the only provider that I know of who specializes in both men’s and women’s health. I really enjoy being able to not only serve both men and women but also couples. It’s a unique and fulfilling opportunity.”

THE TESTOSTERONE TRUTH

One of the most urgent—and widely misunderstood—areas of men’s health is testosterone. Research suggests that the general population today produces roughly 40% less testosterone than their counterparts did only a few generations ago, a decline driven by environmental hormone disruptors in plastics, pesticides, and the food system, among other factors.

The problem goes deeper than low numbers. “What we see on a lab report is a reference range, not a normal range,” Dr. Lofley explains. “It was created based on averages, not on what is physiologically optimal.” A man at the low end of that range may be told he’s perfectly healthy, yet that lower end can reflect the testosterone levels of a 90-yearold. Feeling and functioning at one’s best typically requires levels toward the higher end of the spectrum.

In addition, testosterone affects far more than sexual health. Energy, mental clarity, mood, motivation, fat loss, lean muscle gain, and resistance to anxiety and depression are all connected to healthy hormone levels. Dr. Lofley works with each patient to find their unique level.

“A healthy testosterone level is different for each individual,” Dr. Lofley notes. “It should be where a man feels and functions at his best. So, what I do is work toward the functional and optimized level for each individual.”

SEXUAL WELLNESS IS HEALTH, NOT A LUXURY

An individual’s sexual health is often treated as an elective concern, something optional, even embarrassing to address. Dr. Lofley challenges that framing. “Sexual wellness affects the psyche of men in ways that are deeply connected to their identity and overall well-being,” she says.

She utilizes an effective procedure using a patient’s own platelet-rich plasma called the P-Shot (Priapus shot). Having performed the treatment since nearly its inception, Dr. Lofley has refined her protocol to achieve a nearly 100% response rate. “It’s been life-changing for a lot of men,” she says, especially those who had already tried conventional options and felt they had run out of choices.

At the core of what Dr. Lofley and Renewal Aesthetics do is offer an integrated approach to health and wellness. “I want to be able to treat my patients not just with hormones or aesthetics or sexual wellness solutions but with a combination of approaches that are designed to fit their unique needs in a comprehensive way.”

CONFIDENCE INSIDE AND OUT

Men are also seeking aesthetic treatments in growing numbers; they’re simply quieter about it. At Renewal Aesthetics, Dr. Lofley sees men for laser skin resurfacing, neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport, and treatments that address skin quality at the root rather than just masking concerns. For Dr. Lofley, aesthetics isn’t about vanity, it’s about empowerment. Her guiding principle: The best results are the ones no one notices. “You simply look like the most refreshed version of yourself,” she explains.

Whether the goal is reclaiming energy through hormone therapy, addressing sexual health, or looking and feeling one’s best, Dr. Lofley’s message is clear: Men deserve comprehensive, personalized care. “I just want to shout all of this from the rooftops,” she says. “And we’re trying to make it as accessible as possible.”

Q&A with Zack Kemp of Picture Perfect Homes

ONE CALL, DONE

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE HOME SERVICES

BUSINESS?

I originally worked for someone else cleaning windows. I noticed that we’d be cleaning windows, and then the lawn crew would show up, and then someone else for the gutters. I thought, “Why not have one company handle all of it?” That idea stuck with me, and Picture Perfect Homes was born. That was about five years ago, and we’ve been growing ever since.

WHAT SERVICES DOES PICTURE PERFECT HOMES OFFER?

We focus primarily on outdoor maintenance. Our core services are window cleaning, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, yard care, weeding, and yard clean-ups. In the winter we do Christmas light installation and removal. It’s a solid mix that covers most of what homeowners need to keep their property looking sharp through every season.

WHAT’S THE REAL VALUE FOR HOMEOWNERS IN USING ONE COMPANY FOR ALL OF THESE SERVICES?

Convenience, plain and simple. Instead of scheduling and coordinating with three or four different companies, you

make one call. I have about 50 to 60 regular clients I service consistently. Clients know what to expect and when. That reliability matters.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE WORK?

The variety, honestly. On any given day I might do a special project in the morning, clean windows midday, and finish with yard care in the afternoon. I’m never stuck doing one thing all day. And I genuinely enjoy the people. You get to know your clients on a personal level, not in an intrusive way, but just through conversation over time. You get to see a wide range of people and perspectives. That’s something I really value.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PICTURE PERFECT HOMES?

The goal is to grow it into something self-sustaining, maybe two or three crews running, with me focusing on forward growth. Right now, I’m still hands-on every day, which I love, but I’m building toward that next level. We serve both residential and commercial clients throughout the Salt Lake valley, and for the right project, we’ll travel farther.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short

Creative Director: Jen Birn

Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill

Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX

MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.

Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:

MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?

A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”

Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”

This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. GUYS’ GUYS’ GETAWAYS GETAWAYS

FOUR GREAT PLACES FOR GROOVES, GRUB AND GAWKING WITH BEST BROS

Has it been too long since your tribe gathered to rib and one-up each other as only guys can do? To help plan a getaway for just the guys, City Lifestyle gathered an eclectic list of locations offering tons of things to see, do and experience. Here’s hoping the only ribs one will get on this guys’ getaway are the kind to hold in hands while barbecue sauce drips onto shirts.

Scottsdale/Phoenix

There’s no other tournament on the PGA Tour like the Waste Management Phoenix Open and no hole like the legendary 16th, where 20,000 boisterous fans boo the tee shots that miss the green. The other 51 weeks of the year, golfers can play TPC Scottsdale or try one of more than 200 courses in the Scottsdale area, a top golf destination. Another winter event is the BarrettJackson Collector Car Auction. Even if one’s only collector car was a Hot Wheels, it’s a blast to peruse the acres of autos for sale before heading inside to watch the unique or renowned cars crossing the auction block. When it’s time to get moving, the strenuous hike up Camelback Mountain in nearby Phoenix is a bucket-list item. Need a more moderate trail? Experience the same magic of the majestic saguaro cactus in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

New Orleans

It’s always a party in New Orleans (NOLA), especially when it comes to festivals, many of them centered around music. Folk to funk, gospel to jazz, zydeco, blues, African and other musical styles are celebrated on the Jazz and Heritage Festival’s 12 stages. If free admission is more desired, don’t miss the French Quarter Festival featuring local musicians and food vendors representing

dozens of New Orleans restaurants. Part of the fun of Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo is admiring revelers’ watercraft, some of them homemade just for this festival on the banks of Bayou Saint John. If one of the festivals can’t be attended, there’s still plenty of NOLA live music, particularly the jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street. And when a break from crowds is needed, take a guided swamp tour. Kitschy, yes, but it’s a hoot to cruise around on a swamp buggy while looking for alligators.

Bowling Green, Kentucky

“America’s Sports Car” is produced at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, where visitors can join guided tours to observe Corvettes being built and learn the fascinating history of these sexy autos. See examples of all Corvette generations at the National Corvette Museum. And if the need for speed is still felt, a few times a year Xtreme Experience offers driving or ride-along events in exotics like Ferraris or Lamborghinis at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. After getting all revved up, cool down at Mammoth Cave National Park, the longest known cave system in the world and a World Heritage Site, where guided tours take participants through tunnels humans have used for thousands of years. And after all this touring, the Bowling Green area is the southernmost point in the Kentucky Bourbon Trail of distilleries.

Austin

Live music rules here, with iconic venues such as Antone’s, The Continental Club, the White Horse and hundreds of other locations, from dive bars to big stages. From rock and blues to country and urban, music is heard every night of the week (and many afternoons as well). When guys are hungry, there are tons of barbeque and Tex-Mex joints. Unique food trucks are truly a thing here, with nearly 2,000 food trailers in town. Burn some calories biking or running the Southern Walnut Creek Trail or one of many paved paths. Get out on the water in a kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard on Lake Travis or Lady Bird Lake. Take a dip in the historic Barton Springs Pool, where the underground springs keep the water around 68 degrees all year.

A Refuge for the Man’s Man

Spotting an unmet need is the hallmark of a true entrepreneur. For Damien Olsen, a self-described serial entrepreneur with an “ADHD type of personality” and a constant desire to “learn, do, and make more,” that need was a luxury grooming space for men. His solution? Hammer & Nails, a unique barber shop and grooming lounge he recently opened in Herriman.

Olsen’s approach to business is simple: identify a niche based on a personal interest, often looking for a service or product he personally needs. He noticed that traditional

nail salons were simply not inviting for men who wanted services like manicures and pedicures. This recognition led him to fill a significant market gap, establishing an environment with services specifically tailored to male clientele.

The vision for Hammer & Nails is a community retreat. Olsen sees a destination where men can find a “reprieve from the day-to-day hustle and bustle of life.” This isn’t just a quick stop for a trim; it’s a thoughtfully designed sanctuary. The rooms are windowless with dim lighting to ensure total privacy. Every service, from haircuts and scalp massages to hand and foot treatments, comes with personal entertainment: a large 55-inch TV and noise-canceling headphones. The focus remains strictly on grooming and natural nail care.

A key part of Olsen’s strategy is also generational. He wants to invite fathers to bring their sons for a cut or a first grooming experience.

Aside from regular appointments, Olsen plans to host watch parties for sporting events. He’s also developing options for groomsmen or bachelor parties, where the entire space could be closed to the public for private catering and services.

Hammer & Nails is designed to be a comfortable destination, a place where members can drop by to hang out, grab a drink, and watch sports in the lounge even when they aren’t there for a scheduled service.

Olsen has successfully translated a gap in the luxury market into a welcoming, high-end retreat, offering South Jordan men a sophisticated new destination for self-care.

LOCAL ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: GREG BEAN

ARTICLE BY ABI FALIN HORSPOOL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY GREG BEAN
“I wondered if I could use lettering to create a portrait in letters.”

Greg Bean never planned to be an artist. For most of his career, he worked as a police detective and says he was “basically an art imbecile,” completely avoiding art after a discouraging experience in junior high. In 1999, that changed when his lieutenant found out and literally ordered him to learn forensic composite drawing.

Though reluctant, Greg says his instructor was wonderful, explaining that “drawing is 90% in your head.” After a 40-hour course, he began creating composite sketches for real cases. “It was nerve-wracking,” he says, recalling the pressure of

working on serious crimes. But, his drawings helped identify and arrest criminals from across Washington state and beyond.

He grew so attached to art that after retirement, he went back to BYU to get a BFA in illustration. The Mark Twain drawing was one of three 30”x40” pieces he created for his final project. “I wondered if I could use lettering, like hatching, to literally create a portrait in letters,” he recalls. “There’s just lots and lots of itty bitty marks,” he says, noting that each one must work both as a letter up close and as part of a portrait from a distance.

Now retired from law enforcement, Greg works primarily on commissioned pieces and describes art as “a great retirement gig.” His work can be viewed on Instagram at @gbeanarts.

Old Delhi BUTTER CHICKEN

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY CENTRAL BY SAFFRON VALLEY

Butter chicken was born in the kitchens of Old Delhi as a way to transform leftover tandoori chicken into something rich, comforting, and deeply flavorful.

At the South Jordan and Sugar House locations of Saffron Valley and Central by Saffron Valley in downtown Salt Lake City, owner Lavanya Mahate and her team honor that origin while creating a dish that feels both nostalgic and timeless. Try this rich and flavorful recipe at home.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1. Marinate the Chicken

In a bowl, combine yogurt, spices, lemon juice, and ginger-garlic paste.

Add chicken and coat well. Marinate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Step 2.  Cook the Chicken

Traditionally, the chicken is cooked in a tandoor. At home, you can grill or pan-sear on high heat. Cook until lightly charred and just done. Set aside.

Step 3. Build the Sauce

In a pan, heat butter and oil. Add onions and sauté until soft and lightly golden. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until aromatic.

• 1 tsp. ground cumin

• 1 tsp. garam masala

• 1 tsp. sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

• Salt to taste

• ¾ to 1 cup heavy cream (adjust to preference)

• 1 Tbsp. kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves), crushed

• Fresh cilantro for garnish

A Central by Saffron Valley kitchen recipe inspired by the streets of Delhi

Add tomato puree and cook on medium heat covered for 8-10 minutes until it thickens and the oil begins to separate. Stir occasionally so the sauce doesn’t burn or stick to the bottom of the pan. Add chili powder, cumin, garam masala, salt, and sugar. Stir well.

Step 4. Add the Chicken

Add the cooked chicken into the sauce. Simmer for another 8 minutes so the flavors meld.

Step 5. Finish

Lower the heat and stir in cream. Crush kasuri methi between your palms and add it in. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes.

Step 6. Serve

Finish with a swirl of cream and fresh cilantro. Serve with warm naan or basmati rice.
