There’s something quietly powerful about the women who shape our lives. They don’t always seek the spotlight, yet their impact runs deep— woven into the very fabric of who we are.
It’s the mother who held us through heartbreaks and celebrated our smallest victories like they were her own. It’s the friend who shows up with coffee and support. It’s the teacher who sparked a passion we didn’t know we had, or the colleague who reminded us of our strength on a hard day.
These women—our sisters, mentors, grandmothers, neighbors—leave lasting impressions. Through their words, their actions, and often just their presence, they give us courage, offer grace, and remind us of our worth.Their impact isn’t always loud, but it is lasting. It’s in the way we love, the way we lead, and the way we care for others. Because of them, we stand taller. We dream bigger. We become better.
I am so incredibly lucky to have many strong, inspiring and uplifting women in my life for whom I lean on and look up to. I know my life would be incredibly different without a few key women in my life. As we move into the month of May and prepare to honor not only our Mothers but the women who have had an impact on us, let’s celebrate the bold, brilliant, compassionate, resilient, and inspiring women who shape our lives and our world in ways both big and small.
So here’s to the women who have impacted us in one way or another.

A trip to the salon is more than just a makeover – it's a chance to rediscover and express your personal and professional self. No matter if it's a fresh cut, blowout, or new color, your emotional well-being, social interactions, and professional identity are impacted which is why finding the right salon can be a huge undertaking.
“Our work speaks for itself; we decided instead of offering every type of service out there, we know exactly what we’re good at.”
— TABITHA MOHLER
As a result, Babes & Bubbles in Overland Park has become the go-to destination for transformative experiences, and thrilled clients are taking to social media to flaunt their gorgeous hairstyles, spreading the word, and inspiring others.
"After years in the industry, I wanted to build a salon environment that not only provides top-tier services but also feels like a community,” explained co-owner Tabitha Mohler. “Babes & Bubbles is about more than just hair; we create relationships, boost confidence, and make sure every client leaves feeling their best.”
Business partners Tabitha Mohler, Brooke White, and Madeline Sutmiller opened Babes & Bubbles Hair Salon in 2023.
So what sets this salon apart? It's the confidence that comes with knowing they're experts in their craft, especially in blonding.
Many of their clients book their appointments after coming across videos of women sharing their dramatic blonde transformations, courtesy of Babes & Bubbles.
“Our work speaks for itself; we decided instead of offering every type of service out there, we know exactly what we're good at,” added Tabitha. “I think that people know that they can trust us.”
Tabitha and the team routinely take educational classes to keep up with the latest trends and perfect their exceptional blonding services. From annual hair classes to online programming, Babes & Bubbles is continuously adding new styling techniques to their arsenal while discovering innovative products and gaining a deeper understanding of hair care and maintenance.
Tabitha says finding the right stylist is all about looking for someone who knows what works with your face shape and overall lifestyle.
"I would recommend finding somebody that specializes in what you're looking for," said Tabitha. “We get a lot of our clientele from Instagram, where people search for blonde specialists or lifting specialists. I’d say the majority of my clients – about 9 out of 10 – come from Instagram.”
It’s a new year, and with the turn of the season, Tabitha says to get ready for one-length bobs enriched with glossy hair color as an up-and-coming trend.
Root melts, a hair coloring technique that blurs the transition between darker roots and lighter, highlighted hair, is also making a splash, along with voluminous blowouts, which captivated runways and fashion magazines in the 90’s. Think bouncy, salon-ready Cindy Crawford hair, guaranteed to be picture-perfect.
“I really love that the volume hairstyles are coming back; we're seeing a lot of velcro rollers, we love to do blowouts, and we'll actually be starting a blow-dry membership at some point,” said Tabitha.
It’s been two years since Babes & Bubbles opened their doors, and over the years, hundreds of happy clients have become loyal to the team, knowing they can trust them for weddings, corporate parties, a quick touch-up, or in need of beauty therapy. Just remember, maintaining healthy hair is a team effort.
“Do what makes you feel good, and hair is so important; we look at it every day, and I always tell my clients, I know it feels great when you leave here, but you have homework too, to keep it and maintain it,” said Tabitha.

Chloe’s New visionary designer, Chemena Kamali has inspired a whole new generation of bohemian dressing. This trend is making a statement with romantic ruffles, puff shoulders, and easy, relaxed denim. It’s all about feminine dressing with a twist—soft, flowy silhouettes paired with tough details that add a cool, modern edge. Think breezy fabrics balanced by structured elements for a look that’s effortless yet fashion-forward.
There is no better way to channel Spring 25 than to blend crisp, classic elements of preppy style with the laidback charm of coastal living. Think breezy linens, nautical stripes, and a palette inspired by the sea—soft blues, crisp whites, and sandy neutrals. But here’s the twist: it’s all about adding a quirky flare. Picture playful patterns, unexpected pops of color, and fun accessories that bring a little personality to those polished pieces.

Denim on denim has been a staple for the past few seasons, and for Spring ‘25, it’s showing no signs of slowing down. Designers are keeping this trend fresh with unexpected silhouettes—think oversized jackets, asymmetrical cuts, and wide-leg jeans—or elevating classic pieces with fantastic washes that range from vintage fades to bold, saturated hues. It’s all about taking your denim game to the next level with fresh textures and unique styling.
Novelty fashion pieces with a surprising touch of laid-back sophistication. It’s about making a statement with eye-catching textures and details—think dazzling sequins, intricate embellishments, and standout accessories—while keeping the overall vibe effortlessly chic. The trick? Pairing these dramatic pieces with relaxed, minimalist accessories and neutral tones to keep the look grounded and sophisticated. This trend lets you have fun with fashion without feeling overdone, creating a perfect balance of playful luxury and subtle elegance.
Welcome to Inside the Bubble, where one fun detail is making waves this season: bubble hems. From skirts and mini dresses to nylon vests for layering, this playful, voluminous trend is popping up across a multitude of categories. It’s all about adding that little touch of drama and movement to your look, creating a fresh and fun silhouette that stands out. Fashion is all about reinventing the details, and bubble hems are the perfect way to keep your wardrobe feeling fresh, relevant, and totally in the know.
WARM NEUTRAL
Spring is getting a color makeover! Gone are the days of sticking to just pastels or primary hues. This season, designers are embracing a warmer palette—think rich browns, deep burgundy, and earthy olive, perfectly balanced with soft, romantic tones like baby pink and butter yellow. It’s a fresh, unexpected twist that brings depth and sophistication to your spring wardrobe.

In a world where inclusivity is often a buzzword, a groundbreaking new project is striving to turn those words into reality. It’s not just about creating an entertainment park or a space—it's about creating an experience where everyone, regardless of ability, feels welcome, seen, and valued. At the heart of this development are James Arkell and Lamar Hunt Jr., and a deep collaboration between local, state, and federal partners, as well as a number of public and private entities, all working together to build something truly remarkable.
“We’re thrilled about this amazing project coming to our community. It’s another huge win for our City, and for the families who will benefit from the oneof-a-kind services and experiences that will soon be available right here in Olathe. We’re eager to see this area continue to grow into a true destination for visitors from across the region and the entire country,” says John Bacon, Olathe Mayor.
The vision for this new hub, located at the intersection of 119th and Renner, is unlike any other in the country. Loretto Properties, owned by Lamar Hunt Jr. and son-in-law, James Arkell, and owners of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team, is constructing a sports arena to accommodate a junior league team as well as a multi-sports arena for cheer and adaptive sports. Originally slated to be solely a youth sports complex, the plans have evolved into something far greater. Today, this sprawling, flat 64-acre site will house an amusement park, a medical facility, restaurants, a hotel, and a sports venue for all abilities, all built with one central idea in mind: accessibility for all.
“Everyone has a part to play in this project,” says Arkell. “Whether it’s nonprofits, local governments, medical institutions, or private companies, each partner brings something unique to the table. We wouldn’t be where we are in the process without all these groups joining forces. Our development partner Vantrust has been crucial to our progress and its rare to find a company that believes in charity as much as profitability. The most exciting part is seeing them all work together to turn this vision into something spectacular.”The inspiration behind this project began with the desire to create more opportunities for hockey in the Kansas City area, but what once began as an idea to bring more awareness to the sport of hockey grew to something much larger,’ says Arkell. “Once we obtained the 64-acre lot, we started to dream bigger. Using my own family’s experience with enjoying time together and traveling as a family,
we decided to create a space that would be accessible for all. In honor of my son, Michael, who is disabled, we began the journey of creating an entertainment district that allows families of all sizes and abilities to enjoy time together easily.”
One of the most exciting aspects of this project is the amusement park, which promises to redefine what it means to be “accessible.” Drawing inspiration from Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio—the world’s first ultra-accessible theme park known for catering to people of all abilities—this new park in Olathe will offer rides designed for full accessibility, so that families, no matter what their needs, can enjoy a day together without limitations.
“Ultra-accessible means that all of the rides are designed to be wheelchair accessible,” explains Arkell. “The rides are engineered in a way that allows wheelchairs to be securely locked in, ensuring that people with mobility challenges can experience the thrill of the rides without feeling singled out. The park is designed for everyone in mind so that every person, disabled or not, can enjoy a day of fun.”
But it’s not just about the rides. This will be a place where families can come together to enjoy fun and memorable experiences. It’s about creating an environment where no one feels out of place, and everyone can just enjoy the park as a family. There will be restaurants, shops, and sports courts to enjoy as well, so there is something for everyone.
“We live in a world that often speaks of ‘lifestyle’ and of desiring to experience the goodness, beauty, and truth that surround us each day. But what about those who are on the fringe due to some ‘special needs,’ unable to fully participate in all that life legitimately has to offer?” says Lamar Hunt, Jr. “Michael’s Wonder World addresses this challenge in a fully comprehensive way, with an invitation that says, ‘All are welcome.’ All of the accommodations are ultra-accessible and, thus, ultra-accessible —meaning no matter what a family is dealing with, everyone can fully participate in all that is offered at Michael’s Wonder World.”
In addition to the amusement park, the development will include a medical facility designed with families in mind. Inspired by a multi-assistance center in San Antonio, the facility will house a variety of services under one roof, including everything from hair and nail care to sedation dentistry and optometry.
This project will be a game-changer for Kansas City and beyond, bringing together families, communities, and businesses in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and valued.
But perhaps most importantly, it will feature a network of community partners, offering services for families who have family members of all abilities.
“The goal is to create a 'one-stop shop' for families, where they can access medical and support services in a centralized location. With the help of local institutions like KU and Children’s Mercy, the medical facility will offer a range of services, including mental health support for both children and parents. This is a much-needed resource, as many families caring for children with special needs often experience burnout without the proper support,” explains Arkell.
For the families who need it, there will be a navigator or ambassador to help guide them through the available resources. “It’s not just about providing services, but also making sure families don’t feel overwhelmed by the process” says Arkell.
Tucker Trotter, CEO of Dimensional Innovations adds, “ Getting to be part of such an important project—one that's really changing the patient experience—has been incredible. It's more than just creating something remarkable; it’s about touching lives, bringing creativity and care together in a way that gives people hope when they need it most. What James and the team have put together is genuinely a game changer for Kansas City. It captures what KC is all about: people and companies coming together for the greater good.”
This project isn’t just about creating a fun destination— it’s about creating a lasting legacy of inclusivity and community. The idea is to make sure that families, no matter where they come from, have access to the resources and experiences they need to thrive.eWithout even being open the group has a rapidly filling calendar of events for the 20227 season including 28 dates already booked for e adaptive hockey, and plans for national championships and international games, it’s clear that the future of this development is bright.
Lamar Hunt Jr., one of the driving forces behind the project, has a personal connection to the idea of creating spaces for families. His dad, Lamar Hunt Sr., built Worlds of Fun, so this project is in their DNA.
With its mix of sports facilities, medical services, restaurants, and entertainment, the new development is slated to become a major travel destination. A third-party study on this development expects that it will draw over a million unique visitors annually, providing a boost to local tourism and the economy in Olathe and Kansas City as a whole. On weekdays, the focus will be on youth sports, especially hockey, dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading.
But on the weekends, the area will transform into a vibrant destination for families and tourists from all over the country coming to enjoy the amusement park and amenities that the development has to offer. It will also serve as a world class destination for youth sports tournaments with amenities for everyone.
The inclusion of a hotel, designed to meet the needs of families with varying abilities, will offer a seamless experience. Parents will be able to select amenities like larger pack-and-plays or bath chairs, ensuring that they have everything they need to care for their children without the added stress of packing and planning.
“This is big news for our community. The investment in our market is certainly a game-changer. This truly unique, ultra-accessible theme park and arena will be a draw for visitors across the entire country and is another big win for the Olathe Chamber of Commerce and the City of Olathe, “ says Tim McKee, the CEO of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce .
As the project moves toward its 2027 opening, the team behind it remains committed to building something that will truly benefit the community. With incredible partners, innovative ideas, and a shared vision for inclusivity, this development promises to be more than just a park—it will be a place where families, regardless of their needs, can come together, have fun, and enjoy all that life has to offer.
“This isn’t a park just for those with disabilities; this is a park for everyone. It’s a space where everyone can have a seat at the table, enjoy great food, shop, experience sports, and have fun—all in an environment designed to be as inclusive and accessible as possible,” says Arkell.
This project will be a game-changer for Kansas City and beyond, bringing together families, communities, and businesses in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and valued.
“How we deal with the most vulnerable in our society is a mark of true goodness, beauty, and yes, a joyful encounter. There is no greater good than selflessly serving others, especially the most vulnerable in our community,” says Hunt.
“On behalf of the Loretto Companies, we want to thank our community partners in these endeavors and all those who have graciously brought this amazing concept to the attention of the greater KC community. We cannot wait for you to “come and see” all that this offers for every family dealing with special needs.”

Flowers by Emily Owner: Emily Fyten
Emily’s love for floral design began in her early 20s while working part-time at a flower shop. "I started designing wedding flowers on my own in 2006 and then opened my first retail shop in 2007," she shares. Now, with over 18 years in the business, Flowers by Emily has built a reputation for stunning garden-style arrangements using unique blooms. "You don’t need to know exactly what you want when you order from us, we love getting a few preferences and then designing something special based on what’s fresh that day," she explains. The best part of her job? "Being a part of brightening someone else’s day.”

Flowers have a rich history of symbolic meanings.
As far back as the 19th century, they were used to convey secret messages. Stories throughout history recount how flowers were used to send hidden messages between people. French publishers began producing flower dictionaries that cataloged the many floral codes that had been gathered over time. Some of these meanings were linked to the flower’s root name, often derived from mythology, while others were drawn from the flowers themselves. The colors, medicinal properties, and even the superstitions
associated with these flowers all contributed to the creation of this secret language.
In addition to their symbolic significance, flowers bring natural beauty to any interior, enhancing spaces with their color, texture, and mood-boosting qualities. Floral arrangements not only create a cozy atmosphere but also infuse a room with personality, elevating the overall ambiance. There are multiple ways to creatively integrate florals into your home, and whether using fresh or artificial flowers, creative displays can make quite the statement piece.
“Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.”
Add an extra burst of color and texture to your floral arrangement by layering fruit around the edges of your vase. To achieve this, place a smaller vase inside a larger one, ensuring the flowers stay contained in the inner vase to preserve their shape. Fill the surrounding space with water and then arrange sliced fruit along the vase’s outer sides. For a fresh touch, add ice cubes to keep the fruit looking vibrant longer and to hold them in place. Not only will the flowers’ fragrance fill the air, but the citrus notes from the fruit will add a refreshing scent.
Using a frog to display flowers creates a minimalist yet elegant look that highlights the individuality of each bloom. It helps the stems stay in place. To set it up, place the frog on your chosen display base, whether it’s a vase, bowl, platter, or any container you prefer. Then, simply insert the flower stems by gently pressing them into the prongs. Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.
“Tip: Flowers with sturdy stems and a lighter top work best in a frog, as delicate blooms tend to lose their shape more quickly.”
For a dramatic effect, try creating a hanging floral display. Floral cones are available for this style, or you can craft your own for a more personalized, organic look. The contrast between long-stemmed white flowers and a dark wall creates a striking visual impact.
No matter how you choose to display them, flowers are a wonderful addition to any room. They boost mood, improve air quality, spark creativity, and bring a decorative charm to any space.
