Once upon a time, a baby girl was born into a family with four boys who were older than her by 6 - 12 years. She was adored, cherished and loved completely. While they didn't play with her much growing up, the brothers were always sweet and attentive, inviting her to climb up on their laps or finishing her lima beans at dinner. She would press her face against the living room picture window, watching for them to return home from college and bask in their warmth and energy. Now, with one lost to AIDS, three brothers (and another little sister) continue to surround their baby sister with unconditional love and support. I'm the luckiest girl in the world!
This month, we salute the men in our lives and honor those who celebrate Father's Day.
Enjoy our annual MEN'S issue, chock full of amazing guys and the stories that interest them.
All my best,

ARTICLE BY ZACH HAHN
This year, I had the once (first) in a lifetime experience of attending the Emmy Awards as a nominee. A miracle happened and I was able to score tickets for my sister, my mom, my husband Jake and a close family friend so they could all be there with me. Getting to share that moment with them was everything.
In the end, I didn’t win the Emmy. But I didn’t lose either. What I gained that night meant more than a trophy. I got to walk the red carpet with Jake by my side, and for once in my life, I truly felt respected and loved for the work I’ve spent decades pouring myself into. It sometimes feels like you need a little gray hair before the world decides you belong, but that night I genuinely felt like I had a seat at the table. Moments like that make you reflect on the road that brought you there and the people who were beside you along the way.
Jake and I first met almost two decades ago on the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. At the time, we were both kids with big dreams, convinced we were going to be rock stars. Life had other plans, but we followed our careers wherever they took us. Today, Jake is an E6 engineer at Netflix, and I run my own audio production company, audio.expert. Every now and then, our worlds even cross professionally
when I work on projects connected to Netflix. It’s one of those funny ways where tech and entertainment collide in our lives.
These days, however, our favorite place in the world isn’t a studio or a red carpet, it’s our home in Johns Creek. Our kitchen is where a lot of our life happens. Most nights you’ll find us there talking about work, goals, ideas and what comes next. Jake has always been my number one fan and biggest supporter, and one of the things that makes our partnership special is that he genuinely understands the complex world of audio and sound design.
Leading up to the Emmy Awards, I was probably the most stressed and nervous I’ve ever been in my life. A chemical spill in Tennessee destroyed my custom-fitted suit and delayed shipments across the region, including the fertility medication our surrogate needed for the next step in our journey. What was already a long and complicated process suddenly got pushed back another month.
When you’re standing on a red carpet, it’s easy for people to assume that everything must feel glamorous and easy. But like most milestones in life, that moment came after years of work, uncertainty and having Jake beside me supporting the journey the entire way.

“Today, Jake is an E6 engineer at Netflix, and I run my own audio production company, audio.expert.”
I grew up in rural Indiana with no connections and no roadmap into sound design. What I did have was a loving mother who believed in the same dream I had and was willing to co-sign a massive student loan so I could chase it. Years later, I also found a partner in Jake who believed in those same dreams just as strongly. When I took the leap and started my own company, he stood beside me and supported the risk, while I built audio.expert from the ground up. Between the faith my mom had at the beginning and the support Jake has given me every step since, I’ve been incredibly lucky to have people who believed in the path even when it wasn’t easy to see where it would lead.
Now our focus is on the next chapter of our lives together. Jake and I have spent the last five years navigating the long and complicated journey of surrogacy. Between waitlists, paperwork and patience, it has truly been a marathon. But we are hopeful that by the end of 2026, our family will be growing right here in Johns Creek.
For us, Johns Creek isn’t just where we live; it’s where Jake and I are building our life together. It’s the place where our kitchen conversations turn into plans, where we’ve supported each other through career risks and long waits and where we hope to raise our future children. The Emmy red carpet was an incredible moment, but the life we’re building together here at home is more meaningful than a trophy.

Zach Hahn was nominated for a Children’s & Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing for a Live Action Program for his work on Makayla’s Voice: A Letter to the World on Netflix. The 2024 documentary follows a teen with autism who unlocks a joyful world of self -expression as she shares her voice for the first time using a letter board. We loved this film!

Featuring Cal Couch, North Atlanta Real Estate Advisor
In a market where most chase transactions, Cal Couch has built his business— and his life—around something deeper: momentum, connection and purpose. A top real estate advisor serving Johns Creek and North Atlanta, Cal operates at a high level professionally, but it’s how he lives outside the deal that defines him. Whether it’s what’s playing through his speakers, what’s on his grill or how he gives back, there’s a clear theme: intentional living.

Cal’s playlist is not background noise—it’s fuel. Think a mix of country storytelling, classic rock and modern feel-good energy. Artists like Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Zac Brown Band still dominate weekends, while 90s and early-2000s throwbacks are favorites.
One track has been on repeat. “I’ve been listening to ‘I Celebrate Me’ by IngaRose and it caught me off guard,” he says. “It’s raw, it’s powerful and it’s about strong women choosing to celebrate themselves even when no one else is clapping.” Raised by a single mother, Cal connects deeply to that message of resilience and quiet strength. “There’s something about watching someone share their story, stand up and say, ‘I’m enough. I’m proud of who I am, and I’m celebrating my success through the hard and trying times.’ That hits home.”
Right now, he’s reading Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, inspired by stories of growth, risk, discipline and relationships.
When Cal’s not negotiating deals, he’s mastering another craft—grilling. At the center of it all is the Kamado Joe, but Cal will tell you, you don’t need anything fancy—just a grill that can hit 700 degrees and a commitment.
His go-to method? Start with a 2-inch ribeye to easily feed two to three people. Let the steak rest at room temperature for several hours, then coat generously with olive oil and heavy on the McCormick steak seasoning. The magic is in what he calls the “2–2–2–5 method:” Two minutes on one side, rotate for two more minutes (for that perfect cross-sear), flip over for two minutes, then close the grill completely for five minutes. Finish with butter, wrap loosely with foil, and rest for 10 minutes. Cal slices the meat into thin, shareable pieces—presented beautifully so guests can take a few slices at a time.
For all the success, the deals and the accolades, what defines Cal most happens quietly—away from listings and closings. Each year, he carries out a personal mission. In honor of his mother— who passed away after a battle with brain cancer—Cal seeks out a single mother in need. “I watched my mom do everything she could to shield me from the hard days,” he says. “But kids see it. They always see it.” That perspective never left him. So every year, he seeks out and gives $1,000 to a single mom—no strings attached. “Just telling someone, ‘I see you. You’re doing an incredible job.’ That’s what stays with them.” For Cal Couch, the formula is simple: Build momentum. Celebrate the journey. And never forget where you came from.

Dr. Naylor on hips, knees and all the body's moving parts.
Dr. Brandon Naylor believes in the body and its wondrous capabilities. As a hip and knee replacement specialist and orthopedic surgeon, he utilizes the minimally invasive and muscle-sparing Direct Anterior hip approach, proven to minimize postoperative pain while improving function when compared to traditional approaches. We caught up with him at his practice at Total Joint Specialists to find out what drives him.
YOU ARE CONTINUALLY SEEKING A PATIENT-CENTRIC APPROACH TO JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERY, INCORPORATING PERSONALIZED KINEMATIC KNEE ALIGNMENT STRATEGIES, RAPID RECOVERY PROTOCOLS, ROBOTIC ASSISTANCE TECHNOLOGY AND CUSTOM IMPLANT MANUFACTURING. TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAY.
An average day is a mix of clinic, surgery, teaching and research. In clinic, I spend a lot of time listening while helping patients understand why they’re hurting and what their best options truly are. The three most common complaints I see are knee arthritis, hip arthritis and pain or stiffness that’s limiting someone’s ability to stay active or independent. In the operating room, my focus is on hip and knee replacement, increasingly in outpatient and ambulatory settings, with an emphasis on precision, safety and rapid recovery.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS AREA AS YOUR BUSINESS HOME?
Alpharetta and Johns Creek have an incredible blend of growth, community and quality of life. It’s a place where people are active, engaged and invested in their health. From a practice standpoint, it allows us to deliver high-level, academic-quality care in a setting that still feels personal and accessible.
WHAT NEW MEDICAL TOOLS, STRATEGIES OR TREATMENT PATHS ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT FOR 2026?
I’m particularly excited about the continued expansion of outpatient joint replacement, including more complex cases being done safely in ambulatory surgery centers. Advances in robotics, navigation and patient-specific alignment strategies are allowing us to better restore a patient’s natural anatomy rather than forcing

everyone into a “one-size-fits-all” model. I’m also enthusiastic about improved perioperative pathways, with better anesthesia techniques, pain control and preoperative education that meaningfully improve the patient experience.
WHEN YOU CAN TAKE A BREAK, WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO GRAB LUNCH IN ALPHARETTA?
Downtown Alpharetta has become a go-to. I’m a fan of places like Flatlands Bourbon & Bayou or Butcher & Brew when I have time to sit, and quick stops around the Avalon area when the schedule is tight.
AND WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO GO ON A DATE NIGHT IN ALPHARETTA?
Date nights usually mean downtown Alpharetta or Avalon. A nice dinner followed by a walk through the area is hard to beat. It feels relaxed but still special.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.
At home, it’s my lovely wife Caitlin, our young daughter Blair, and our two Whoodles (Wheaten Terrier/Poodle), Rylee and Larkspur.

WHERE SERENITY MEETS THE THRILL OF THE CATCH.
Once again, Newman-Dailey Properties delivered with 3112 Sanctuary by the Sea in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, a spectacular four-bedroom condo that really captures the essence of refined beach living. As one of their many luxury rental properties, it blended elevated design with sweeping, panoramic views, creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable stay.
ARTICLE BY KARYN SLOVIN
Inside the condo, the decor is a sophisticated take on contemporary French country style, with a hint of contemporary and subtle beach-inspired accents. The palette blends warm neutrals with organic textures that evoke both European charm and seaside serenity. Every detail has been

considered to create a space that feels elevated, yet comfortable, suited for quiet mornings and effortless entertaining.
Just beyond the main living space, expansive doors open to a generous balcony that serves as a true extension of the home. From here, panoramic views stretch across a tropical oasis below, with two sparkling pools, a tranquil hot tub and the endless ocean horizon. “Sanctuary by the Sea residential vacation rentals offer a unique way to experience 30A like a local. Guests are welcomed into a one-of-a-kind luxury residence overlooking one of the area’s rare coastal dune lakes,” says Tracy Louthain, marketing director for NewmanDailey Resort Properties. “The coastal dune lakes are not only scenic but also offer a wealth of recreational activities. In addition, guests enjoy access to all the property amenities, including two pools, hot tubs, fire pit, fitness center and more. And while you feel tucked away in a pristine, quiet setting, you are just minutes from Grayton Beach, WaterColor and Seaside.”
The unit’s media room is a stand-out, centered around an oversized, floorlevel sofa, seating up to ten guests to stretch out in complete comfort.
The kitchen is equally impressive, outfitted with top-of-the-line Viking appliances. My guests and I enjoyed the beautifully appointed kitchen and dining area, where we prepared the fresh fish we caught during our charter fishing excursion. The team at Newman-Dailey thoughtfully arranged a private outing for us just minutes away, departing from Grayton Beach.
Early one morning, we all headed out in our sporty 50 SPF long-sleeve t-shirts courtesy of Crupi Legacy Fishing and met Captain Phil and Donna of Captain Phil’s Charters. We launched directly from the shore, heading out into the Gulf for several unforgettable hours on the water.

As a first-time angler, I was thrilled to land two fish on my very first attempt. Others each contributed by catching impressive grouper, which we were able to eat that evening and also keep for a future meal. By the end of the excursion, my friends and I returned to the condo with around 15 pounds of freshly caught grouper and red snapper, ready to be transformed into a memorable meal.
From the excitement of a memorable fishing charter to the unhurried pace of a few relaxing days on the beach, everything naturally flowed into the comfort of the condo, complete with a few wellearned mojitos along the way. A clear commitment to design excellence is evident throughout the residence, where statement lighting, custom upholstery and carefully curated artwork come together in a cohesive, intentional and undeniably sophisticated aesthetic. Every detail reflects a designer-level finish, making it immediately clear why Unit 3112 is proudly featured as one of Newman-Dailey’s luxury properties.

For the young men of the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) Johns Creek chapter, service is more than a requirement—it’s a way to take on real challenges in the community.
YMSL is a four-year program where high school boys and their mothers volunteer together in support of local philanthropies. Each year, the Johns Creek chapter partners with 28 organizations, helping members build a lifelong commitment to service through hands-on involvement.
Over the past year, that commitment has taken shape through a focused effort to address food insecurity. In the U.S., nearly one-third of food goes uneaten, even as 1 in 7 Georgians and 1 in 5 children face food insecurity.
To help bridge that gap, the chapter partnered with Second Helpings Atlanta. In just four weeks, YMSL mother-son teams collectively served 400 hours and rescued over 6,000 pounds of fresh food from going into landfills. By delivering the food to local nonprofits, they provided immediate access to food to families in need. Students also packed 75 boxes filled with 750 snack bags for children at three schools.
“It feels good to give back to my community. I’m walking away feeling incredibly lucky for what I have and more committed to making sure my neighbors have enough to eat,” said Joshua Kempiners, an 11th grade student at Johns Creek High School.
For Laura Bennison, VP of Philanthropy for YMSL Johns Creek, the experience is designed to be both hands-on and eye-opening.
“We want our young men to understand both the scale of the need and the power they have to respond,” Bennison says. “When they see the full picture of taking food that might have gone to waste to organizations that can use it to support families right away, it becomes real.”
That sense of purpose carried into a rapid-response effort later in the year. When delays in SNAP benefits left local food banks struggling to keep shelves stocked, the chapter quickly organized a community-wide food drive.
More than 73 percent of members participated, rallying neighbors, collecting donations and delivering more than 4,000 items to six local organizations. On collection day, more than 25 volunteers sorted and loaded donations in just 30 minutes, filling 10 SUVs bound for partner nonprofits.
The chapter’s food drives support organizations including Community Assistance Center, Meals by Grace, Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries, North Fulton Community Charities, Solidarity Sandy Springs and Stella Love.
“When your group arrived with car after car of donations, it was honestly overwhelming—in the best way. Our shelves had been running low, and what you delivered made an immediate difference for the families we serve,” said Stella Love, founder and CEO of Stella Love non-profit.
Through each project, the goal remains the same: developing young men who lead with empathy, take initiative and understand the value of serving others.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST
Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short
Creative Director: Jen Birn
Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill
Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX
MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.
After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.
Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?
A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?
A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”
This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.

Meet Ari Bowles, co-defensive coordinator for Johns Creek High School
Aristotle “Ari” Bowles makes it clear that relationships are paramount. As the incoming co-defensive coordinator for Johns Creek High School’s football program, he hopes to use his collegiate football experience to help guide student athletes through the recruiting process.
He will join the faculty, teaching chemistry to sophomores and juniors. “I believe students don’t truly engage with or understand content unless there’s a strong relationship in place,” he says. “The same is true in coaching.”
A native of Charlotte, NC, and graduate of NC State, Ari has a strong family foundation. He considers his grandfather an influential figure in his life, having demonstrated values of resilience, caring for people, embracing change and prioritizing family.
Father’s Day this year will be celebrated early by Ari and two important fathers in his life – his dad and brother (a new dad), in Anderson, SC.
In his spare time, Ari follows football content, especially the Carolina Panthers and the NFL draft. Staying connected to the game and observing how teams build their programs brings his personal interests and career together. Outside of sports, he enjoys listening to Wes Huff, a Canadian theologian, and shares an impactful book entitled “The Men We Need” by author and radio personality Brant Hansen.
In June, Ari celebrates his first anniversary with his high school sweetheart, Myah, whom he met in seventh grade and has been with since freshman year.
We wish Ari all the best for a wonderful summer and fab football season.

Men who swap reactive care for a proactive approach are more likely to experience the best possible quality of life well into their 80s. With this in mind, and in honor of Men’s Health Month, I compiled a preventive care roadmap for men ages 40 to 80.
As men enter their 40s, it’s time to focus on blood pressure and cholesterol. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), key screenings help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, including blood pressure, cholesterol, body weight and blood glucose.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says more than 40 million Americans have diabetes, with most having type 2. Those ages 45 and older are at higher risk. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in overweight or obese adults ages 35 to 70.
The American Urological Association (AUA) suggests that those with increased risk of developing prostate cancer, including Black men and those with a family history, begin screening at age 40 to 45. Others should start screening between the ages of 45 to 50. For men ages 50 to 69, regular prostate cancer screenings should take place every two to four years.
The Colorectal Cancer Alliance notes that colorectal cancer has become the deadliest cancer in men and women under 50. Screening guidelines have recently changed, and the USPSTF recommends that all people at average risk begin colon and rectal cancer screening at age 45.
The USPSTF says adults ages 50 to 80 who have smoked a pack a day for the last 20 years, or two packs a day for the last 10 years, and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years, should be screened for lung cancer.
An abdominal aortic aneurysm happens when the lower part of the aorta weakens and bulges outward. The USPSTF recommends a one-time screening for men ages 65 to 75 who have ever smoked.
Immunizations prevent millions of deaths annually. The CDC offers vaccine schedules by age, including those for older adults. These include shingles, RSV, pneumococcal, RSV, COVID-19, and more.
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) advises checking for geriatric syndromes, including dementia, depression, hearing and vision loss and falls at every annual wellness visit.
AllCare offers preventive health and immediate care for urgent medical needs at 15 Atlanta-area locations. Additionally, we provide comprehensive primary care, including management of long-term chronic conditions, weight management programs and behavioral health services.
AllCare accepts most major insurance plans and offers affordable self-pay options. Same-day and walk-in appointments are available.
