The Style Issue S E P TE M B E R 2 02 6
LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Beauty of Style There's a moment every fall where the closet stops making sense. The pieces that carried you through summer suddenly feel like they belong to someone else. You stand there for a second, coffee going cold, thinking: I need something that actually feels like me this season. The beauty of style is that, just as quickly as the seasons change, so can you! Sure, you’ll have your staples you reach for, but then there are those monumental pieces that just make THE difference. Not trend-chasing. Not "what everyone's wearing." Real style—the kind that's personal, considered, a little bit collected over time. You'll see it in AK Couture's Indo-Western collection, where a local designer is blending two traditions into something entirely her own—rich fabric, sharp tailoring, pieces that don't ask permission to stand out. You'll see it in a Timmy Woods handbag—hand-carved acacia wood, thousands of hand-set crystals, the kind of piece that isn't just an accessory, it's a small piece of art you carry into every room. And if you haven't wandered into Monkee's of Hyde Park lately, go. It's the kind of boutique where someone actually helps you build a look, not just ring you up— curated, personal, the way shopping used to feel before everything went generic. I used to think I needed to be loyal to one style. What I’ve found out is how much fun it is to experiment day to day, season to season. It’s not about perfection. It's about the pieces—and the moments—that make you feel like you the second you step into them. The blazer that makes you stand up straighter. The bag that makes you feel finished even on the days you weren't sure you'd get out the door. The night out that reminds you life is still supposed to be beautiful. This season, we're celebrating the people, the pieces and the experiences that help our community do exactly that. With gratitude,

AK COUTURE
In a stunning new fall collection, local designer AK Couture introduces intentional, thoughtful design that unites culture and couture. East meets West in the original designs by Amrita Chehil, founder and owner at AK Couture in Mason. She takes local closets global with the history and traditions of her native India. The traditional Indian garments usually reserved for cultural weddings and special occasions transition to everyday life in Amrita’s styles: dresses that sparkle at dinner, richly colored jumpsuits for running errands around town and embroidered blazers for the office. “In this fall collection, Heritage Reimagined, I was inspired to bring quality craftsmanship and extraordinary fabrics into everyday fashion,” Amrita says. “This collection features Indian textures and silhouettes in fall colors—burnt orange, olive green—that are approachable and wearable.” AK Couture offers custom, made-to-order clothing that stays within your budget. Clients meet with Amrita one-on-one to get measurements and explore ideas. A skilled team of thirty in India crafts the clothing in all sizes for women, men and children, typically ready to wear in just 3-4 weeks. No time for couture? Shop off the rack from her extensive inventory, available to view by appointment. Delight in this fall’s rich hues, bright embellishments and fabrics that move and breathe like they were made just for you—because they are. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . Inside Timmy Wood’s Beverly Hills World
ARTICLE BY HEATHER SPINKS PHOTOGRAPHY BY KOHTA RINCON PHOTOGRAPHY
The Legacy of the Accessory 20
M UST SE E | STYL E + BEAU T Y
If you want to truly know someone, don’t look at what they wear, look at what they carry. Often, getting dressed is governed by a quiet set of rules: what’s appropriate for the office, what’s expected at a dinner party. Accessories, by contrast, remain untouched by these unspoken social rules. The handbag you reach for each morning is one of the few style decisions made entirely on intuition—a small, daily act of self-expression, unbound by convention. Few designers understand that creative freedom as intimately as Timmy Woods. Born and raised in Beverly Hills to parents in the real estate industry, Timmy was constantly surrounded by inspiration and design. Sitting in the backseat of her parent’s car, she would tag along to appointments and meetings, often finding herself drawing in a sketchbook or shaping natural materials in the backyard into small designs. Those years shadowing her parents instilled two lessons: the discipline of hard work and the rarer skill of recognizing beauty before it’s fully developed. What many might have discounted as childhood whimsy became the launch pad of her career, an instinct that took her from a sketchpad to the red carpets and closets of Hollywood. In 1975, Timmy Woods Beverly Hills was born, blending glamour and old-world craftsmanship—not out of formal training, but natural creativity. Timmy crafted her first leather bags entirely by hand, cutting the leather with scissors, and bringing them to New York City, where they landed at Bendel’s, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s. Bloomingdale’s later honored the collection with its own window display, a moment that would mark Timmy’s career as proof of what she’s always believed: that true creativity, paired with courage, can transcend experience. When American costume designer and stylist Patricia Field spotted one of Timmy’s designs, it wasn’t long until the rest of the world knew the luxury boutique brand. First came the pop-culture debut of the now-iconic Eiffel Tower handbag that Sarah Jessica Parker carried as Carrie Bradshaw in the 2008 Sex and the City film, which would later make its reprise in 2022’s And Just Like That. Hand-painted onto acacia wood and set with more than 7,000 Swarovski crystals, the landmark bag ignited a cultural moment. Legacy publications like Elle, and countless corners of the internet, asked the same question in unison, “Where can I find Carrie Bradshaw’s Eiffel Tower bag?” The spotlight didn’t stop there. Timmy found further recognition when Heidi Klum held the designer’s playful Luscious Lips bag inside the glossy pages of 2009 German Vogue. Since then her designs have stayed in steady rotation among stylists and collectors—all of them drawn to the true intention behind her designs: pieces that aren’t just accessories but conversation starters and works of art. While the fashion industry tends to favor mass production of products, Timmy’s designs celebrate what happens when you appreciate patience instead. Her belief that maximalism and craftsmanship were never meant to compete, but rather to work as two ingredients of the same designs, has led to one-of-a-kind luxury bags that are less about seasonal purchases and more about small investments of permanence. That belief runs through her aptly named Art to Wear collection, where an onyx oval clutch is adorned with a hand-carved, crystal-embellished orchid in full bloom, or in an intricately beaded typewriter-shaped bag. Each piece reminds the wearer that boldness and craftsmanship aren’t opposing forces, but complementary ones. In a more understated approach, her Naturals collection takes sustainably sourced, fallen acacia wood and turns it into hand-carved bags. Each grain and knot is left visible, making every piece inherently one of a kind. From an event-ready clutch to a handbag that draws inspiration from the temples of Kyoto, these pieces aren’t simply accessories meant to be used and replaced, but heirlooms to be passed from one generation to the next. It’s in the tension between eye-catching glamour and streamlined beauty that Timmy’s true ethos and inspiration can be found: the world itself, and the people who reside in it. Each piece captures the countries she has wandered and the cultures whose presence have found their way into the textures and patterns of her designs. That CONTINUED >

“From an event-ready clutch to a handbag that draws inspiration from the temples of Kyoto, these pieces aren’t simply accessories meant to be used and replaced, but heirlooms to be passed from one generation to the next.” reverence extends well past Timmy’s workshop, channeled into giving back to the communities she has visited: street lighting in Laguna, a village in the Philippines or helping support a local reforestation project. For Timmy, legacy isn’t something fixed or finite, it’s measured by what we give and the lives we are able to touch along the way. See the designer bags in the Queen City for the first time this fall. A brand-new collection, inspired by and created in honor of America’s 250th semiquincentennial, will be on display and available for purchase at a Trunk Show at The Barn in Mariemont on October 8. Shoppers will step into a curated showcase of Timmy’s signature mixed-media artistry, including leather paired with hand-carved acacia wood, woven bamboo cane, hand-crocheted floral details and other luminous accents. For a career and brand built on the belief that someone’s arm can hold not just their belongings, but their history, their travels and the version of themselves they choose to present to the world, the latest collection celebrates exactly that. If there’s one thing to learn from Timmy Woods, it’s that everything we love, see and know is art—all it takes is for us to see and acknowledge it. Experience Timmy Woods, ELEVATI and more at l’Arte 3D, where we will be bringing the style issue to life at The Barn in Mariemont featuring Timmy Woods’ latest collection along with light bites and refreshing beverages, 5:30-8 p.m., October 8. lArte3D.com

INGREDIENTS: • • • • • •
1 bottle, standard size, of pinot grigio 2 1/2 cups fresh apple cider 1 cup club soda 1/2 cup ginger brandy 3 honey crisp apples, chopped 3 pears, chopped
DIRECTIONS: Combine all ingredients together and stir. Refrigerate for an hour or so (or longer) before serving. The drink can be enjoyed immediately, if desired, but the longer you let the ingredients sit and mix, the deeper the flavors will be.
