This issue of Tulsa Lifestyle gives you plenty of ideas for your family staycation from cooking hot and spicy gourmet hotdogs on the Fourth, to getting out of the house to pick up a to-go order from one of Tulsa’s locally-owned restaurants. If you want to create a safe family outing while staying socially distanced from others, drive downtown and see Tulsa’s building murals. We include a listing and a link to a map of the best murals in town.

Think carefully about the proposed terms of a divorce settlement The process of divorcing is often complex and difficult. There are a few things that make this even more challenging. Having numerous assets or having an ex who is not willing to work to come to mutually agreeable terms are two of these. Individuals might not want to think about having to battle things out in court, but it may be necessary if the settlement negotiations are not successful. Negotiating the terms of the divorce requires that both parties in the matter be willing to compromise. In most cases, neither party is going to get everything they want. Being able to think clearly about how various arrangements impact them may help as they evaluate the
potential options. It is usually best to think about what aspects of the end of the marriage they want to focus. For example, they might not care about what happens to the marital home, but they may want to keep their special art collection. In these cases, a strategy can be worked out that increases the chance of that happening. Determining what is truly important to them can also help them to save their energy for those matters. Parties should think about the long-term implications of the settlement. This includes taking a look at how the arrangements will affect their finances in the future. Assets that are costly to keep up might not be ideal when they are trying to survive solely on their own income. Therefore, it is important
to evaluate the possible settlement options to ensure they make informed decisions. THIS SAVAGE SONG BY VICTORIA SCHWAB There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains and friends or enemies with the future of their home at stake.
ALL ADULTS HERE BY EMMA STRAUB When Astrid Strick witnesses a school bus accident in the center of town, it jostles loose a repressed memory from her young parenting days decades earlier. Suddenly, Astrid realizes she was not quite the parent she thought she’d been to her three, now-grown children. But to what consequence? It might be that only Astrid’s 13-year-old granddaughter and her new friend really understand the courage it takes to tell the truth to the people you love the most.
SHINER BY AMY JO BURNS An hour from the closest West Virginia mining town, 15-yearold Wren Bird lives in a cloistered mountain cabin with her parents. They have no car, no mailbox and no visitors except for her mother’s lifelong best friend. Every Sunday, Wren’s father delivers winding sermons in an abandoned gas station, where he takes up serpents and praises the Lord for his blighted white eye, proof of his divinity and key to the hold he has over the community, over Wren and her mother. But over the course of one summer, a miracle performed by Wren’s father quickly turns to tragedy. As the order of her world begins to shatter, Wren must uncover the truth of her father’s mysterious legend and her mother’s harrowing history. CONTINUED >

Murals SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF TULSA'S BUILDING ART

ATTRACTIONS CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR OWN HOMETOWN. With more people staying in town this summer, people are creating vacation-worthy activities for the family right at home. Touring Tulsa’s murals might be the ticket for a fun-filled day. Found primarily on the sides of old buildings in downtown Tulsa and the Arts District, the murals are bigger than life, extremely colorful, and range from photo realism to abstract. In fact, the artistry will impress you. Tulsa newcomer, Jeffrey Tanenhaus, moved here from New York City four years ago where he was a tour guide. He loved Tulsa’s murals so much that he created a free, self-guided tour for people to use themselves. He thought the self-guided mural tour would be fun for people who wanted to get out of Woody Guthrie mural on the side of the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa's Arts District.

CENTER (ACROSS FROM GUTHRIE GREEN) ARTIST: AARON WHISNER The famed folk singer of “This Land is Your Land” hails from Oklahoma. Woody Guthrie (1912-67) sang about social, political and economic issues of his day. Time spent in New York City, Los Angeles and the heartland shaped lyrics that rang true across America. This building houses the Woody Guthrie Center, a museum and archive full of Woody’s music and memorabilia, including handwritten lyrics to the song memorialized on this mural.

ARTIST: JEKS A youthful Leon Russell surrounded by a bouquet of roses looks ready to come to life. Jeks, a graffiti artist and muralist from North Carolina, spent three days painting this Tulsa rock legend. Jeks has made a name for himself globally for his hyper-realistic portraits. ARTIST: JOSH BUTTS In between Cathedral Square and the popular coffee shop, Foolish Things, this vibrant mural brightens up a quiet corner of downtown. Against the backdrop of nearby churches (and one cathedral), God reaches out to give Adam life — the most famous scene from Michelangelo’s frescos on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. “This is a visual of God reaching out to humanity and humanity reaching back,” Butts said.

Summer Camp BUILDING MEMORIES AT CAMP LOUGHRIDGE – OPEN FOR THE SEASON
ARTICLE LOUANN BUHLINGER
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER FROM GOING TO SUMMER CAMP AS A KID? I remember getting the camp t-shirt. That was particularly important to me at the time. I also remember making friends, Bible lessons and fantastic food with giant dinner rolls the size of two fists! Wendy Thomas, executive director of Leadership Tulsa remembers her favorite things from summer camp included arts, crafts and campfires where she and her fellow campers sang songs. Local journalist, Kris Miller-Dudley fondly remembers, “Building friendships, hiking, swimming and S’mores.” 28

1. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream, sugar and vanilla with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form in the mixture. 2. Start with a thin layer of whipped cream on the bottom of a springform pan (determine the size by how large or small you want your icebox cake to be). Then top with an even layer of chocolate (or your favorite kind of ice cream). 3. For the next layer, top with an even layer of cookie crumbles, cake crumbles, chocolate candies, crushed graham crackers or anything else you want to layer your cake with. 4. Continue with layers of whipped cream, ice cream and toppings until you have reached the top of your pan. 5. Refrigerate at least 4 hours, top with more cookie crumbles or chocolate sauce, slice and enjoy!

SHORE UP YOUR CUSTODY AGREEMENT BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS
THE SUMMER MONTHS CAPTURE OUR ATTENTION WITH WARM WEATHER AND SUNNY SKIES. For parents, summer distractions make it difficult to stop and think about back to school. But for parents who share and exchange time with their children, summer can provide an important time to be proactive and plan for the coming school year.
1.
Start looking at the school calendar and activities your children will likely participate in and compare that to your current parenting schedule. Most court ordered parenting plans allow for flexibility provided both parents can agree. For example, if your pickup and drop off times no longer work based on school or activity schedules, discuss it with the other parent and

see if you can work out an updated schedule. Discuss how school registration, school fees, supplies and clothes for the upcoming school year should be handled between you and the other parent so there are clear expectations for how these responsibilities should be shared if your parenting schedule or other court orders do not address these types of issues. Finally, public health and medical experts are all forecasting that coronavirus is likely to impact this coming school year, so summer is now an important time for parents to make plans for how they will care and help in the education of their children if schools are forced to close again during the fall or winter months.
