He credits country music rapper Lil’ Nas X’s overnight rise to fame by gaining attention on social media. Admittingly, he is still trying to figure out how to position himself on social media platforms, which he calls a job.

“I just have to shift my thinking,” Jordan said, which includes his passion about reversing the legacy of hip hop, which he calls “our music.”

When asked about his favorite song in his catalog, he answered, “Now They Beggin’ on the Curve,” which contains a catchy hook stating, “They used to say I was a nerd, but now they beggin’ on the curve. They be like, Jordan what’s the word? I don’t know girl, what you heard?”

He performs this song because it reminds him to be resilient and confident in who you are.

His thoughts on what he envisions his legacy to be are reminiscent of the message he sends in his music and today’s political climate.

“I want people to know that no matter how progressive or how woke you think you are, if you can’t sit down at the same table with somebody you disagree with and break bread with that person, then we’re going to continue to lose,” Carter said.

SHELIA MANTS HAS DESIGNED HUNDREDS OF EVENTS IN ATLANTA THROUGH HER COMPANY, ADDED PIZZAZZ,AND WITH EVERY EVENT, SHE KNOWS TO EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. No matter how prepared she is for every job, she realizes the likelihood of a challenge will inevitably happen. She recalled one local event where she had to hustle and recreate an indoor event space three hours before an event due to the oppressive Southern heat. Her team had to move several tables indoors at the former site of Tyler Perry Studios and rearrange setups for the bar, DJ, food trucks and mobile massage units while still aligning with the vision. In the end, her team managed to pull the event off as guests were entertained while they visited house to house on the studio lots. Mants calls this line of work her passion.

“I love it,” she said. “I know that it’s a gift when I can wow myself.”

Mants, a native Atlantan, previously was a crisis counselor and later owned a kiosk at Underground Atlanta. In the past, she would throw elaborate events in her spare time. She also studied floral design and attended balloon school to build her skills that she refers to as God-given. “It’s kind of a natural talent,” Mants said. “It’s one of my gifts. We’ve all got them. I’m a creative and that’s my talent.” Mants’ Added Pizzazz offers services including event design, event management, catering, venue rental and additional services with a DJ, bands, photography and videography. She has worked with local celebrities, 18

government entities and major corporations. She built her clientele by partnering with celebrity event planners who lacked design skills. That is where she steps in to transform spaces based on a client’s vision.

“Whatever your imagination is, I create experiences for people,” Mants said. Mants said planning an event can vary and she prefers to work with people who share her same passion. One of the trends that she has noticed among local events include stations. Stations can range from a themed food station, like a dessert station to an “action” station where a chef prepares food live. Another design trend includes using spandex covering instead of linens to create a sleek effect, while millennials tend to favor natural design elements with moss, wood and earthy features.

Mants prides herself on being a detail-oriented person. She keeps a consistent theme in every element including a sports-themed event featuring professional football players and a bouncy-house printed with soccer balls. The Mants Estate includes a five-acre ranch with a private lake for events. She saw the need for the venue in her hometown of South Fulton and hopes to create more memorable experiences for her clients. When asked about her favorite or most memorable event, she referenced her 50th birthday where she showcased an Academy Awards theme at Atlanta’s City Hall together with a red carpet, award categories, awards and a Diana Ross impersonator.

Mants’ upcoming events include the Taste of South Fulton and the annual It’s All About Me event in October at Morehouse School of Medicine featuring fashion, beauty, career and alternative health vendors for women.

COSF Residents Must Acquire License for Short-Term Rentals South Fulton Residents interested in making extra money by renting their property on short-term rental websites like AirBnb, will now have to apply for a license through the City.

District 2 Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs sponsored the legislation that led to the new rule requiring residents to apply for the license.

Residents who rent their property are now required to pay a $200 application fee for a license and obtain an occupation tax certificate.

hat may at first seem like an odd question becomes an extremely relevant question with further reflection. Whether or not you and your physician mesh may at times be a decisive factor in whether or not you are receiving the best healthcare possible and could very well impact the results of your treatment and outcome. When you are choosing a doctor, you should most certainly consider his or her training, background and board certification status.

You may also want to look at online reviews of your doctor, but make sure you take the good and the bad evaluations with a grain of salt and look at the evaluations as a whole. Studies show that patients with bad reviews are more likely to respond to anonymous evaluations than those with good experiences.

Likewise, it is highly unlikely that a doctor will legitimately have 5 stars in all categories on every review.

Now that you have done your basic homework and researched your new doctor to be, how do you know if he or she “fits your style?” In my experience there are several components of a good physician patient relationship and several questions you should ask yourself after meeting your doctor.

The most important aspect of a physician patient relationship is respect. Does your doctor and his staff treat you with respect?

Does your doctor listen to you and address your concerns?

Studies show that patients perceive a doctor as being more attentive when they sit down and make eye contact with them rather than stand over them or stare at a computer screen.

Some people find it impressive to have a doctor who is direct and to the point and simply tells the patient what they need for treatment and leaves out what other patients feel is compassion, or a personalized touch.
