The Month of Love FEBRUARY—IT’S THE SHORTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR, BUT THERE’S DEFINITELY NO SHORTAGE OF EXCITING HAPPENINGS IN BRIDGEWATER.

When thinking of ideas for our Arts + Love issue, we were inspired by our cover model, Isabel Rita, who recently had the opportunity to sing on a charity holiday album to help raise funds for Children’s Specialized Hospital and David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation. Looking for a Valentine’s Day gift for your child? Why not support a local author this month? Felicia Sanzari Chernesky published a series of books focused on various Hunterdon County Farms. Just because you’re trying to lose weight, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to enjoy a Valentine's date night meal. Profile by Sanford owners, Tiffany and Anthony Brigante, provide us with a delicious Cauliflower Fried Rice recipe. Sticking with the healthy theme, did you know that couples that exercise together are more likely to stick to their fitness routines long term? We interviewed the owners of Club Pilates Bridgewater to find out more about the benefits of working out together. The owners, Karen and Todd Spidare, also want to let the world know that Pilates is not just for women! Some of their most dedicated members are actually men. Are you considering a private school education for your child? This month’s Open

This month brings the Day of Love, which is of particular significance to us, because February 14 is also our wedding anniversary. While getting married on a holiday is perhaps cliche, the upside is it makes it easy to remember the date. The downside is you squander the opportunity for additional gifts and flowers—which could also be considered an upside, depending on how you look at it. Happy Valentine’s Day Bridgewater! This month we hope you enjoy all of the vibrant offerings of our amazing community.

cause your insulin levels to rise and blood sugar to drop, making you crave sugary, fatty foods. All of the above research on the inefficiency of dieting is what attracted Anthony and Tiffany to Profile by Sanford. As they are the first Profile to open in NJ, there’s a good chance you haven’t heard about them—yet! So what exactly is Profile and what makes it different from the plethora of diet programs on the market? Profile is medically sound and backed by Sanford Health, one of the world’s largest and most innovative integrated health systems. A diversely experienced team of researchers, physicians, and geneticists came together to assemble this comprehensive, evidence-based program. Profile uses genetic testing to teach their members how their metabolisms work. With this information, they create a truly customized weight loss plan that takes advantage of each person’s unique genetic makeup. No two plans are identical! At Profile, members receive access to Profile Foods—healthy meals that are designed to give them the precise nutrition they need. They offer a variety of options to suit flavor preferences. more starches and carbs are worked into the plan. Once you hit your goal weight, you move to the Reboot/Sustain Stage to ensure the weight stays off. The end goal is to be eating mostly grocery store foods. While Profile encourages higher protein consumption and less carbs, it is not a true keto diet. This is good news because the keto diet can be very difficult to follow long term. Profile puts members in a mild state of ketosis, where they reap the same benefits without an emphasis on fats. It is still low carb/ high protein in the beginning, but as you get closer to your goal you gradually work toward a balanced eating plan. Another benefit of Profile is that you are still able to eat out and feed your family. Tiffany and Anthony have two teenagers at home. “On Sunday night I like to cook a big pot of sauce. I’ll serve my kids white pasta, but then use Profile pasta or spaghetti squash as a substitute for me and Anthony,” says Tiffany. Other nights she might cook a lean protein for the entire family, but then skip the starchy side and add extra vegetables to her plate. Below is one of Tiffany’s favorite date night recipes. This tasty, yet healthy, Cauliflower Fried Rice, is on regular rotation in the Brigante household. Proving that you can follow Profile and still eat delicious food too. Students are also encouraged to embrace a life of service and each class completes a student-led service project. “It is so important that we teach our students to be sensitive to the needs of others and to live a life that responds positively to those needs,” says Principal Sue Florendo.

“WE CHALLENGE EACH STUDENT TO BECOME A LEADER AND TO USE THEIR GIFTS TO BETTER OUR SOCIETY.” - SR. JOANN AUMAND

The school is blessed with an active and supportive parish and Home School Association that works closely with the school to organize events and raise funds. Each year the graduating class receives an average of $400K in scholarships to attend the top private high schools in the state. The Saint James Parish pastor, Monsignor Sylvester Cronin, sees the close relationship between the Church and school, “It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child. In much the same way, the success of Saint James School is the result of the hard-working parents, alumni, and parish.” Schedule a tour at sjsbr.org

GIVING BACK

IZZY WA R R I O R PR I N C E S S ISABEL RITA RECENTLY LENT HER VOICE TO SING “SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN” ON A CHRISTMAS ALBUM TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR CHILDREN’S SPECIALIZED HOSPITAL AND DAVID’S DREAM AND BELIEVE CANCER FOUNDATION. The Van Holten first-grader resides in Bridgewater with her parents, Sonia and Marco Rita, and their nine-year-old dog, Tucker. The album is part of a project called Duets from the Heart (DFTH) and was developed by Calista Quinn, a 17-year-old New Jersey native who has been featured on Radio Disney and was on The Voice in 2018. DFTH is an ongoing series of holiday albums featuring amazing children. The purpose is to not only provide children battling chronic illnesses with an opportunity to experience the process of music production, but to also give back to the organizations that help them live their best lives. “I have been so fortunate to be where I am and I really want to give other kids the chance to embody what it feels like to do what I do,” says Calista. Isabel was nicknamed “Izzy Warrior Princess” after she was diagnosed with a

spinal cord tumor at just one-year-old. No stranger to chronic illness, Isabel continues to battle through a tumor and the side effects that have come with it. Inspired by Isabel’s strength, her mother co-founded Izzy's Infantry Fighting Pediatric Cancer and Spinal Trauma. Their goal is to raise money for important, underfunded childhood cancer research. They also want to provide support to

patients and their families through various programs and groups. Isabel was excited to sing on the album. "I accomplished something that I never thought I would at this age. It made me feel really proud of myself,” says Isabel. The album was produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter Desmond Dennis who is also known for “Desmond’s Kids Jamz,” which is a collection R&B remakes of classic nursery rhymes. All proceeds are split between Children’s Specialized Hospital and David’s Dream and Believe. The CD and digital versions are available online with a minimum $10 donation at DuetsfromtheHeart.org or by emailing sonia.e.rita@gmail.com.
