for what we want our future selves to be like and look like. We take a glance back at where we have been and what we have done, and we try to remember to extend ourselves grace. January is a time to cleanse, to start fresh and not dwell on who we were 12 months ago. So much change can happen in a year, so as we plan our future and commit to resolutions, we also leave some room to change our minds—to grow and be human. Here at Westfield Lifestyle, we are so proud of the growth in our community and we cannot wait to see what is coming for 2020. As new businesses open, old businesses expand, charities fundraise and we all turn one year older, we will continue to be right there to share your stories and celebrate your milestones. Happy New Year, Westfield and Southwick! Thank you for being a part of our story. In good health,

It’s important to remember that you have a right to be upset. Everyone who loves you respects this right so don’t be so hard on yourself. Take as much time “out” as you need.
January is Wellness month. Studies show fresh flowers in your home or business significantly reduce stress and anxiety.
GNORE OBLIGATIONS.
Don’t feel obligated to do anything you don’t feel up to doing. If you have locked yourself into prior commitments, it’s o.k. to say “no.” Your friends and family will understand, so be sure to give yourself permission to change your mind.
IND FRIENDS TO CONFIDE IN.
Lean on the shoulders of those who love you and let them provide encouragement. Don’t feel bad about unloading your emotions on them. They want to help you. You need only tell them how.
RY NEW TRADITIONS.
There’s nothing wrong with adapting a new set of holiday rituals. Why not incorporate a special ceremony to commemorate the life of your loved one? Or consider honoring another endeared family member with the previous roles of your deceased loved one. Know that it’s o.k. to change the rules.

Dust mites, mold, animal dander and fragrances are more concentrated indoors during the fall and winter, when windows are usually shut and there's less ventilation. TRIBELIFE ATHLETICS HOME OF CROSSFIT TLA PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING OTHERS EVOLVE THEIR MIND, BODY & SPIRIT. ARTICLE CANDICE BERUBE PHOTOGRAPHY KAT KATTLER 18
Westfield Lifestyle | January 2020
But I had no coaching or community. No one cared if I didn’t show up or if I had poor form or poor movement patterns. CrossFit gyms are super welcoming. No matter your fitness level or age or gender, you are welcomed and encouraged to do what you can. You can always just walk right into TLA, and know we have your best interest as our top priority.” WHAT IS IT ABOUT CROSSFIT THAT DRAWS PEOPLE IN, AND KEEPS THEM COMING BACK? “It’s the community! TLA has a wonderful community. It’s one of the best groups of people this area has to offer; we have educators, law enforcement, engineers, firefighters, all walks of life. We all meet here at 809 College Highway for the same reason. It really brings people together. No one person is better than another. Yes, there are many different skill levels of athletes; however, you won’t see anyone feeling inadequate or left out. TLA members and staff encourage and motivate each other. There is zero judgement.” HOW CAN NEW MEMBERS GET INVOLVED, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW IF CROSSFIT IS FOR THEM? “We “scale” or modify each work out to the individual’s current level of fitness. Everyone has a different level of fitness, so it’s totally normal to walk into a class and have 3 members doing 3 different (but similar) movements. However, it can still be daunting for a new CrossFitter to walk into a gym and join a class. As a result, a new member can enroll in a one-to-one foundations class, to get them comfortable with the most common movements and verbiage. In addition, we will be starting Couch to Richelle, Leighton and Peyton King

Westfield Lifestyle | January 2020
COUNTRYSIDE WOODCRAFT HANDCRAFTED KITCHEN AND HOME FURNISHINGS WAS STARTED 25 YEARS AGO IN A TWO CAR GARAGE BY RON HESS AND BRIAN BOLL. The mission was to provide job opportunities and teach the art of craftsmanship by building chairs. It didn’t take long for the community to ask for tables, hutches, and bedroom furniture. The reputation for this finecrafted furniture quickly grew and customers were soon asking for Kitchen Cabinetry. In 2000, the Countryside Woodcraft team established build their current shop and 6,500 square foot showroom located at 665 Huntington Road in Russell, MA. Kitchen cabinets have become big part of the business, but not the sole focus. If you have not visited them yet, you are missing out! “We welcome folks to visit the shop, attached to the showroom, where all the action happens,” says Ron Hess, Master Craftsmen. high quality custom cabinets that we fully expect to serve your family for generations to come. It is a great place to visit and experience a showroom full of kitchen cabinetry and beautiful handcrafted furniture.” In 2006, their second showroom was opened about an hour from Westfield, in Ghent, NY. It is here, in Upstate NY, where Architect Christina Griffin and Kitchen Designer Lawrence Martin of Countryside Woodcraft, collaborated on this classic elegant kitchen with a touch of modern accents. This family kitchen serves up as a peaceful space for family and friends alike. It is thoughtfully designed, showcasing functionality and openness. “Stately and Subdued” beautifully describe the integrated refrigerator, and dishwasher panels that seamlessly blend in with the hard maple cabinets in this refined white kitchen. Modern gold pendants anchor the pop of color from the oversized island, which draw your eye to the tiled mosaic above the gas range. Cup pulls on the bottom cabinets add a touch of farmhouse, while the gold color keeps it modern and classic. The open bookcases give the homeowner the flexibility to showcase their personal taste. And glass cabinets highlights the eloquent china service. Natural light softly filters through the windows onto the gorgeous white quartz countertops. Thinking of updating your kitchen in the next few years? Attend the next Free Kitchen workshop on January 18th at 10:00AM, or stop in the showroom and pick up your FREE copy of the Kitchen Idea Book, full of ideas that just might inspire you to a better kitchen design!

“We loved everything about our experience working with Countryside Woodcraft. The cabinets are beautiful and top quality, and it was great having so many style options. The layout is extremely intuitive, and we appreciate the usefulness of the various inserts, dividers, and pull-outs. We also appreciate the excellent customer service and responsiveness, and how Countryside was able to adapt to changes that arose during the construction. Homeowners Michael and Valerie Farkas January 2020 | Westfield Lifestyle

AS JENNIFER AND DAVID STAUFFER, ALONG WITH MICHAEL SADOWSKI, CELEBRATE THEIR ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SINCE TAKING OVER THE BUSINESS FROM JENNIFER’S PARENTS, BOB AND LINDA WILLIAMS, WE WERE ABLE TO CHAT WITH JENNIFER ON THE HISTORY AND FUTURE OF WESTFIELD FEED. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A FAMILY BUSINESS. TELL US ABOUT THE BEGINNINGS OF THE STORE. The feed store has been an active business in town going back more than 100 years. In 1988, the opportunity arose for my father to buy the business and he did so, with my mother joining him a few years later. I am so proud of the work they did, building the business up over the next 30 years! My father built great relationships with his customers and his vendors, and cultivated a positive work environment. He expanded the store to carry a larger variety of high-end cat and dog food, and followed energy trends by diving into the wood pellet market, and becoming one of the most reliable sources for wood pellets in the area. Mike and I began working at the store in 1994. Two
Jeremy Silva
other employees, Jeremy Silva and Joe Sinico, were working at the store, as well. All of us left to pursue other opportunities, but couldn’t resist coming back to rejoin the team! In 2007, when Bob and Linda bought Community Feed in Easthampton and turned it into our sister store, Easthampton Feed, David joined the crew as manager of Easthampton Feed. In January of 2019, Bob and Linda sold both Westfield Feed and Easthampton Feed to Mike, David, and myself. We are so proud to be entrusted to keep the tradition going! WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING IN BUSINESS IN THE WESTFIELD COMMUNITY? All three of us grew up in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. Mike still lives in Westfield with his wife Caitlin and their family. David and I are raising our family in Easthampton, down the road from Easthampton Feed. We love seeing our friends, family and neighbors come into the store. We buy local products when possible, and are happy to live in a place where farming is still a way of life for some and a hobby for many.

MEET YOUR LOCAL CHIROPRACTOR – DR. KRISTEN HOOK OF IDEAL HEALTH & BODY Dr. Kristen Hook has been a resident of Westfield, MA for nearly 20 years and has worked as a chiropractor in Western MA for the past 19 years. She now owns and practices at Ideal Health & Body on Court Street in Westfield. After a high school soccer injury led Dr. Hook to a chiropractor, she became increasingly interested in the musculoskeletal system and how chiropractic care can help various conditions without the use of drugs. She went on to study at New York Chiropractic College, graduating summa cum laude in 2000. While in chiropractic college, Dr. Hook was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She remained in school while undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Fortunately, Dr. Hook recently celebrated 20 years of remission, but she looks back on that difficult time as an opportunity to explore nutrition and the impact our diets have on our wellness. Several years ago, Dr. Hook became a weight loss consultant, utilizing the Ideal Protein weight loss method. At Ideal Health & Body, you will find
version of themselves. Therefore, she is offering a “New Year, New

MEET YOUR LOCAL PHYSICAL THERAPIST, DR. ROGER ST. ONGE OF MOVE ATHLETICS Like many new serviceman in the marine corps, Dr. Roger St. Onge joined right out of high school and found himself out of shape. Local to Springfield, MA, he started CrossFit to get fit, achieved his goal, and then helped others to do the same. Once out of the marine corps, he coached CrossFit for 6 years and saw many of his athletes go to the doctor for various ailments. Often times, these athletes were told that CrossFit was bad for them, even when several of them had complete health transformations, including losing hundreds of pounds, weaning off diabetes medication, etc. They would then see a physical therapist who would give them advice to stop doing weights, stop working out, do more reps/less weight, etc. And this was all without ever looking at the movement patterns to identify the root cause of the issue. Roger decided that he could do better. He felt there was an underserved population and, with his background, he was well-suited to provide a solution. Roger enrolled in the Physical Therapy program at American International College and graduated with his doctorate in 2014. He then went on to complete 3 years of residency and fellowships at Boston University and the Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. With his extensive experience coaching and competing in CrossFit, combined with his degree and training, he was ready to make difference. In 2019, with the goal to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and athletics, he founded Move Athletics Physical Therapy.
Move Athletics’
patients are active adults and athletes of all ages, who need help getting back to the sports and activities they love. Move Athletics works to identify the underlying root cause of the pain, to empower patients to stay active throughout recovery, and to give them the least likely chance to ever find themselves in that situation again. Move Athletics offers wellness programs and ongoing visits to be preventative instead of reactive. Once initial treatment is complete, Move Athletics sees patients on a monthly follow-up basis, to provide any work they might need to help them avoid future issues. Call Move Athletics at 413-203-9359, and mention Westfield Lifestyle to receive your free phone consultation. 30

For any business/corporate returns, reconcile your bank and loan accounts through 12/31 as early as possible. This will allow you to get an early jump on preparing the return and beat the rush in February and March. 2. For personal returns, gather all tax forms (W-2’s and 1099’s) as they come in. Ensure to reach out by mid-February if any appear missing. Missing forms can either lead to a delay in preparing your return or notices from the taxing authorities. 3. If you are going to receive a refund – think long term how it can be used. This is a great time to sit down with your financial advisor. 4. Consider your withholdings and estimated tax payments for 2020. If you received a refund for this year, think about lowering them. No need to give the government an interest free loan. If you have a balance due, consider increasing payments during the year. Jim, and his wife Megan, live and raise their two children, Jimmy and Haley,
