Scott Young hosts Opening Party: new solo exhibition, Light Up My Life On October 18th, Scott Young hosted the opening party for his new solo exhibition Light Up My Life, taking over 3,400 square feet of gallery space at Dairy Block, using bright colors like crimson reds and deep purples in his neon artwork to capture the viewer's attention in a passionate and thought-provoking way. Attendees viewed the new work, enjoyed food and drinks provided by BRUTØ at FREE MARKET, Foraged and Blanchard Family Wines. Since beginning There With Care in 2005, the organization has evolved through community engagement. Whether it’s the gift of volunteered time and/or in-kind or discounted services, all the individuals and businesses who participate in the mission bring something that is helpful in supporting a family in a medical crisis. Throughout the nearly 15 years since inception, There With Care has brought people together and helped to build a community around each family when they need it most. HOW MANY FAMILIES WERE HELPED THIS LAST YEAR? In 2018, There With Care served 575 families through the life-threatening illness of their child. In 2019, There With Care is projecting to serve nearly 650 families in a medical crisis. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY FOR READERS TO SUPPORT THERE WITH CARE? For Megan Quinn, Broker Associate of Compass Real Estate Broker, she remembers laying underneath the Christmas tree as a child basking in the magic that was about to happen. Her parents did an amazing job of keeping the magic alive during the holidays. She adores the sense of being physically cozy and cherishes the unique ornaments that have been given to her throughout her life. They all hold deep meaning and are her favorite things to put up and her least favorite thing to take down. Christmas lights also always stay up through January as per Denver tradition created in the 1940s when it was declared that all lights must stay up until after the Stock Show.

This winter at Aspen Snowmass, visitors will find themselves in the midst of myriad new options for dining and riding in Aspen’s auspicious atmosphere. BEAVER CREEK Following a snowmaking expansion in Red Buffalo Park, Beaver Creek now offers more reliable early-season terrain, with the goal of providing more than 3,300 vertical feet of top-to-bottom skiing and riding on opening day each year. For its youngest guests, Beaver Creek has renovated the Children’s Ski School, upgrading its services to ensure a seamless experience across the board, from registration and sales to rentals and fittings. The Denver Botanic Gardens have been preparing for this festival since Labor Day and have added all-new features, such as the 360-degree immersive light experience. Available for purchase are HoloSpex glasses that add dimension to the lights; custom-designed for the festival, garden-goers can collect a new design every year. Entering the gardens begins the charm and brilliance of this year’s light trail. Following the lights, visitors should expect to see evergreens, and oaks wrapped and waiting while sipping on warm beverages available from the Offshoot Cafe or other kiosks open during the event. This illuminated journey will transport the public fully into the holiday season. A musicallycoordinated light field, multicolored dripping icicles, and floating orbs of color bring new appreciation for taking a stroll through the garden. Even snow-covered, dormant plants add to the celebration while wrapped in LED brilliance. In tone with the Botanic Garden’s year-round mission of plant appreciation and sustainability, the gardens have nearly replaced every light with an LED alternative for sustainability, longevity, and a bolder, brighter display. This Denver tradition is a strong reminder of why membership to the Garden is a great gift idea; members receive two complimentary tickets to Blossom and a discounted rate on tickets year-round. The Garden is expecting a turn out of 100,000+ visitors and encourages tickets be bought online in advance. This year is also the Merry & Bright engagement package, an all-immersive engagement experience for visitors looking for an ideal proposal location. This exclusive event gives the soon-to-be engaged a private visit of the Woodland Mosaic Solarium and reserved garden times to enjoy their special moment and experience the fully-lit garden from a private location, more details available online. Additionally, Blossoms of Light is available for your holiday and end-of-year parties for that extra sparkle. Blossoms of Light opens November 29, 2019 and runs until January 3, 2020 (includes December 24-25 and the 31). This is a family-friendly, and ADA accessible event beginning at 5 p.m. every evening until the last entry at 8:30 pm.

FOR BASSIST ERIC GOULD, A TOURING MUSICIAN WITH HIS BAND, PARTICLE, PERFORMING TRIBUTE SETS WAS A BIT OF A FOREIGN CONCEPT. But while living on a lake in Kansas City, looking for pickup gigs, Gould was offered opportunities to play tribute sets. As he was enjoying performing the music of Phish with friends, a light bulb turned on, and his musical world changed forever. Now heavily invested in the tribute music world, Gould had an idea that was a bit different from the traditional mold: He wanted to create a setlist that combined the psychedelic sounds of Pink Floyd, the oddities of Talking Heads, and the grooves of Phish. So, he did just that. “I was really jazzed on the tribute world, but I had an idea that I wanted to do something unique with it, something that hadn’t been done before,” says Gould. “So, I took three of my favorite bands that I thought would go well together, put them together, wrote down a setlist that I thought looked amazing, and got some guys together to play. Once we were on stage and felt the energy in the audience, we knew we had something special.” Now more than six years into its existence, Pink Talking Fish has earned a reputation for exciting and unpredictable setlists and wildly entertaining shows. “Pink Talking Fish create an intentional and unique masterpiece with every show,” says Andy Manz, publisher of Boulder and Cherry Creek Lifestyle Magazine, and former Phish tribute band member with Gould. “Without a doubt, one of the top live music experiences on the jam scene today!” As a special treat for their Nederlands and Denver performances in December, Pink Talking Fish will also incorporate music from the Beastie Boys. The life of a touring musician is always an unpredictable journey. Though Pink Talking Fish may not be what Gould envisioned for himself during his days living on a lake, he and his bandmates are going to make the most of the moment.
