"THEY ARE A BANK THAT IS INTEGRAL IN BRINGING SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS TOGETHER."
MORE THAN A TRAIN. AN ICON REIMAGINED. How tax credits turned a train station into a destination. Bob O’Loughlin had a vision for St. Louis’ Union Station. He was determined to transform the abandoned local landmark into a source of pride for the city. With the help of Enterprise, LHM was able to secure tax credits and funding to make his dream a reality. Now, the one time largest train station in the world has become a hotel, exhibit hall, meeting place and soon to be aquarium.

Living Over Time A DIFFERENT VIEW OF AGING
“Clients know we celebrate their commitment to self-care. One can only be fully present for life as it comes each day if we have taken time to care for ourselves. We view their choice to take that step with us as both a privilege and a responsibility.” Women and men come to Nouveau for treatment. Carol explains, “How you choose to live each decade, along with genetics, determines what you see in the mirror. The picture you see at 40, 50, or 60 is not the same as your parents at that age, nor is it the same as your friend. Our first line of repair is to choose treatments that encourage your body to repair itself, and then we give it a little help with other treatments, products, or injectables.” “Your skin is the storyteller,” notes Carol. “The skin gives us clues to what is happening all around the body. We apply this information, consider the many facets of your life, and listen to your life stories, all of which contribute to your whole beauty.” Carol reveals, “Then, my job is to sort out the source of interruption in your vibrance and beauty, educate you, provide you with treatment options and WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART SING? One charity is selected. Each member writes a $100 check directly to the chosen charity. The meetings last about 45 minutes, but the connections made for business and continued philanthropy go beyond the quarterly meetings. “Any woman can join! Members fill out a “Commitment Form,” agreeing to write three checks a year to the charity chosen at each meeting. Our members are located all throughout St. Louis and Illinois. We even have one in Bozeman, MT (she moved but wanted to stay in the group),” stated Liz. In 2019, Best Buy and their Richard M. To date, 100+ Women Who Care has donated $437,400 to St. Louis charities in need, including Urban Harvest STL, Caring for Kids STL, Hands That Serve, and Little Bit Foundation.

URSULINE ACADEMY EMBRACES THE VALUES AND THE SPIRIT OF THEIR FOUNDRESS, ST. ANGELA MERICI. “We have a pretty kick-ass foundress,” declares Ms. Peggy Slater, President of Ursuline Academy. “St. Angela’s focus was all about action, and if you see something that needs to be changed, change it.” Angela saw women as significant agents of change in a world longing for love, unity, and harmony. Peggy describes the school’s history of cultivating the vine. “We teach these girls to know their value as a woman and their responsibility to take action. We each have different interpretations, but for me, it gets at the heart of the gifts God gave them. We prepare them to share those with the world in whatever way that looks like.” It’s easy to assume Ursuline is a typical high school. The voices of girls and the things they accomplish are heard around the community. What we don’t often hear about is what is being made possible because of the sparks being lit here. Kim Vogt, Director of Advancement, explains the work that is happening in preparation for the world that awaits them. It’s much more than wearing a red blazer. “Our culture is not ‘Enjoy these four years because it goes so fast. And wear your dresses.’ It’s not like that. It’s – be prepared. These are your four years to get that level set. Learn that discernment. Learn how to flex those muscles and when to take action.” “We have the freedom to put class stuff away and have real conversations,” Peggy says, “There is power in discussing what their world is telling them. The girls search their hearts, examine their value system, and consider whether to be drawn into what the culture is saying. It’s a mindset that they will carry forever.” What is happening here is the work that it takes to be a woman in tomorrow’s world.
Annette Zobel, Ursuline art teacher/ artist, creator of the Angela sculpture (right): “To me, Angela is strong in her conviction, graceful in her movement. She is not still. Grounded in earth, rooted in nature, reaching out to the world and to heaven.

I don’t think of myself as a female dentist. I’m just a dentist. You should be able to do whatever you want to do regardless of your chromosomes. I am a dentist who is also a business owner. I am so proud of being an employer that my employees can rely on and know is going to support them. Just being able to offer jobs in the first place makes me really proud. I like that people want to come to work. My staff drives to our downtown Kirkwood office from Farmington, Granite City, and Festus. I know that they depend on me for their livelihood, and I take that very seriously. During the COVID-19 crisis, I gave up my salary and committed to paying my employees 75% of their pay while we were closed. My accountant gave me this great piece of advice when I bought the practice, “Pay your people until it hurts because loyalty is something you can’t put a price on.” When we open back up, my staff will stick with me, and I value that. I am committed to supporting each person on my team because everyone matters. I support other small business owners who are dedicated to their staff and their community.

T E R I N I C E LY REALTOR, RED KEY REALTY LEADERS A while ago, I worked with a business coach who asked me what I liked to do outside of Real Estate. She wanted to know what I was passionate about, what motivated me, and brought me joy. These three things emerged: taking and teaching yoga classes, entertaining and bringing people together, and being a lifetime learner. I delight in learning about spiritual growth, physical fitness and health, plantbased diets, real estate trends, and technology. This coach helped me realize how my gifts and passions give purpose to my real estate business. Teaching people about real estate while maintaining a calm personality and demeanor, largely achieved through practicing yoga, helps my clients stay calm and breathe through difficult situations... this defines me as a realtor. Bringing clients into my home for educational parties with a designer or gardener brings me great joy. I love to connect people – clients, friends, contractors, decorators. I make sure I am using these gifts and passions every single day to build a healthy business and serve my clients as well as I can.

GAIL KITSIS OWNER, CRAZY BOWLS AND WRAPS People think we are a franchise, but my husband and I own each store. We opened our first location over 25 years ago. We love eating healthy and working out. We couldn’t find healthy fast food in St. Louis, so we decided to open our own restaurant. I always say we were young and dumb when we started. Did you know that we were the first restaurant in St. Louis to serve brown rice, kale, and quinoa? Even though we could eat in our kitchen every day, we intentionally try a new restaurant every week. Especially now. We order out and pick up curbside. St. Louis has some of the best restaurants in the country right in our own back yard, and we support them.
VA N D A D I L B E R BRANCH MANAGER, ENTERPRISE BANK & TRUST I enjoy giving back to the Kirkwood community by leading people in a lifetime of financial success. I’ve been in the banking industry for almost ten years, and there is nothing more rewarding than being able to offer solutions to clients and even non-clients that come in with a problem. Enterprise Bank and Trust is committed to the community in ways other than providing banking solutions. We sponsor the reading program for the Kirkwood Library, as well as the fireworks show for the city of Kirkwood. And also, we love raising funds for Kirkwood Youth in Action. Personally, I enjoy collaborating with the schools in Kirkwood. I am passionate about being able to educate young adults on the basics of banking. You would be surprised how many students come into the bank who don’t know how to fill out a withdrawal slip or how to truly use a debit card. To be able to provide an education that prepares young people for the real world is a fantastic feeling.

ABBY L APIDES OWNER, SUGAR CREEK GARDENS Remember the old saying, “A pansy a day keeps depression at bay?” We are committed to making you smile and brightening your day with plants and flowers. You may notice a few changes here at Sugar Creek. In our commitment to being good stewards to the Earth, we are working on ways to promote a healthy environment. Certain pesticides have proven to be extremely harmful, disrupting the all-important food chain. While we’ve always limited our use of insecticides in the nursery, we’ve gone a step further– we’ve committed through the Missouri Prairie Foundation’s Grow Native program not to sell or use these products. To help ease the single-use plastic problem, we’ve changed our trunk liners from plastic to paper. They’ll keep your trunk clean, and can be recycled or composted. Simply place the used liner in your recycle bin or compost bin. Or even better, you can use the liner as an organic weed barrier and soil builder. Just place it where you don’t want weeds and top with a bit of mulch or compost. They will naturally break down, enriching your soil. While there is so much we cannot control right now, we continue to look for ways to better our earth and our environment.

“I THINK EVERY WOMAN SHOULD TAKE TIME TO SIT IN THE PRETTIEST PLACE IN HER HOME,” STATES INTERIOR DESIGNER KAREN KORN, OWNER OF KAREN KORN INTERIORS. “A formal living room can serve as a beautiful retreat.” In the absence of a formal living room, Karen suggests that virtually any room can be transformed into an oasis. “In my design practice, I love to play on symmetry, balance, color, and pattern to create enough tension to be interesting, but tranquil at the same time.” Creating ambiance can be as easy as changing a light bulb (see Bright Idea on the opposite page). Karen believes creating your haven begins with finding simple ways to add feminine touches that offer a sense of soft comfort, simple contemplation, and self-connection. “With thoughtful interior design, you can feel the calm of any space,” notes Karen.

PACK YOUR SMALL SPACES WITH A BIG PUNCH BY STARTING YOUR OWN CONTAINER GARDEN
IT MAY BE THAT YOU DON’T HAVE MUCH SPACE TO WORK WITH; MAYBE YOU ARE ALWAYS ON-THE-MOVE; OR, MAYBE YOU JUST SIMPLY COLOR TO YOUR SPACE. It doesn’t matter what your reason may be. Container gardening—the practice of growing plants exclusively in containers rather than in the ground—is a great way to pack some punch into a small (or portable!) space. With container gardening, there are almost endless possibilities. Whether you’re looking to grow decorative plants or edible ones, there’s likely an option for you— and it doesn’t have to be limited to simply growing herbs

on your windowsill. There are several factors to keep in mind when you first start your container garden, the first of which being to decide whether you’re going to keep it indoors or out. Different plants grow best in different environments, so be sure to choose species that will thrive where you’ve decided to put them—making sure they are receiving the proper amount of sunlight and moisture.

Here are a few other things to be aware of when you get started: CONTAINER SIZES: Large containers may be easier to grow plants in than small since
they have more space for large root systems and larger amounts of soil retain more moisture. + CONTAINER DRAINAGE: Your container must have a drainage system—even if it’s just a few holes you drill in it yourself. For plants that need to be watered more frequently, consider self-watering containers. + CONTAINER MATERIALS: The fun thing about container gardens is that you don’t have to limit yourself. Get creative with the containers you use (while keeping the above information in mind)! We love repurposing vintage items into unique containers.

A MONROE FAMILY FAVORITE

S P E N C E R ’S G R I L L IN 2010, MY FAMILY MOVED HERE FROM DC. One of my top priorities was finding a local business where myself, my wife, and my daughter could become regulars. Spencer's Grill got us from week one. We go every Saturday morning. My wife and daughter both have their regular orders - #3, over medium eggs with rye toast; and a toasted bagel with cream cheese and hot chocolate with no whip, respectively. I tend to trust whatever the special is. It has ranged from burgers that I get made into omelets to chicken and waffles. The staff knows us so well that when I call in and say, "Hey, it's Rob Monroe," the staff responds, "Okay, so a number 3..." Spencer's is our first-day-of-school breakfast and half-day lunch location for me and my daughter. My daughter celebrated her 8th birthday at Spencer's. The owner silenced the entire restaurant so that a waitress with an amazing voice could sing "Happy Birthday." Then, the chef served my daughter a special birthday pancake with ice cream. That made my daughter's day, her week, and her year. She's almost 13 and still talks about that part of her birthday. Spencer's is family for my family.
