As you read and consider your own home, remember this: home should be a place you love, a place that brings you safety and peace of mind. In the words of the great American poet Maya Angelou, "I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself." So, Asheville, wherever you find yourself, rejoice in it, as it is your home.

FOR LMT HOMES OWNERS MIKE AND LAUREN TAMAYO, CHALLENGE TRANSLATES INTO OPPORTUNITY. However, this comes as no surprise when you learn of the duo’s impressive background. Before delving into the home and design industry, both Mike and Lauren were involved in professional cycling. Mike was the general manager and director of the UnitedHealthcare Professional Continental men’s and Union Cyclist Internationale women’s programs for 11 seasons. Among her many awards as a professional cyclist, Lauren is a 5-time Track World Cup medalist and a 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist in the track cycling team pursuit. To say that rising to a challenge is in Mike and Lauren’s very DNA is an understatement. What began as decades of hard work and dedication to their careers in cycling have seamlessly translated to their work as home builders and designers.

Mike and Lauren Tamayo
“We can look at something and have a vision that others may not have,” Mike says. “We see challenging lots as an opportunity to get creative.” Mike and Lauren first tried their hand at home construction almost unintentionally when they built their first home. “We kind of fell into [this industry] because we built a home for ourselves and it worked very well,” Mike explains. And the two have made their business extremely successful by homing in on each of their assets.

Mike says: “I focus on the business operations, financial movements, permitting and everything from the breaking of ground to the framing of the house, whereas Lauren focuses on all of our design details.” They also work hand-in-hand with Broker Asheville, a local real estate team made up of six real estate professionals. “We are so thankful for the relationship we have with Broker Asheville,” Mike says. “We often share blueprints and design ideas with them so that they can give us advice and recommendations based on what they see clients are looking for in a home.” Mike and Lauren are able to utilize the recommendations from Broker Asheville throughout the entire building and design process, but they always incorporate elements of their own design style as well. “I like to use the concept of minimalism when I design,” Lauren says. “Our homes often have a lot of clean lines and open floor plans.” One of the best examples of Lauren’s design aesthetic is the home pictured throughout this article. This home is also a prime example of Mike and Lauren’s ability to turn a challenging lot into an opportunity for them to be creative. “This lot was on the market for a long time before we purchased it,” Mike says. “So many others stayed away from it because it posed so many challenges. But we decided to reframe those challenges into opportunities.” And when all was said and done, the home, located at 52 Ardmion Park, turned out to be a stunning success, offering over 3,000 square feet of space and unparalleled 180-degree views of downtown. 18

and cleanliness; a clean home is a happy home for most. Although, the prediction for more dramatic laundry rooms, accent furniture, guest bedrooms and tile choices has also been correct. ID.ology Interiors & Design is a full-service design firm that believes in eco-friendly products and stands by a healthy home. Healthy furniture plays a big role in this and choosing healthy furniture can extend the lifetime of yourself and your home. Here are some of our favorite natural choices that follow this year’s hottest trends. 1. From the environmental line through Cisco Brothers, this bed is made from non-toxic, flame retardant and pesticide-free wood. 2. Another piece from the Cisco Brothers environment line for a healthier choice of an accent chair. 3. Talk about a kitchen that has a feeling of calming and cleanliness! This light soft color is so popular and we hope to see more of it. 4. A pop of drama never hurt anyone! This is a more modern style laundry room. 5. For a dramatic accent, Sherwin Williams’ color of the year is Naval Blue. 6. This could easily be another color of the year; we love this unique dramatic green tile.
