KEEPING YOUR BODY IN BALANCE… AND TREATING THE WHOLE PERSON RATHER THAN INDIVIDUAL SYMPTOMS... IS THE KEY TO WELLNESS, ACCORDING TO DR. CHRISTY JENKINS OF NATURO HEALTH SOLUTIONS & AGELESS SPA, A WELLNESS CENTER IN ST. CHARLES COUNTY THAT FOCUSES ON NATURAL AND PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE. Dr. Jenkins, a board-certified naturopathic doctor with over 25 years experience in health care, specializes in herbal remedies, detoxification and weight loss management, homeopathic medicine, chronic conditions, and natural health counseling. With Dr. Jenkins, it’s truly a calling. Her passion is to see people achieve optimal health. By blending the best modern medical science with natural medical traditions, she hopes to teach her clients how to become ambassadors of their own health.

“My priority in skin care is to teach clients how to promote healthy skin and combat the signs of aging related to poor lifestyle and genetics. “When I first became an esthetician, I thought that I would just enhance one’s beauty,” she says. “I had no idea how personal each time with my clients would be. With almost seven years in the field, I realize there’s a much bigger picture of why I am an esthetician. It’s not just to enhance what we can see on the outside, but to also do the same for the inside. As women, we often struggle each day with comparing ourselves to what we see from social media, TV, etc, but we must truly realize beauty starts from within.”

Dr. Jenkins received a proclamation for June 24 as Health Day
Dr. Christy Jenkins recently received a Proclamation from the mayors of St. Charles and St. Peters implementing June 24th as “Health Day” in St. Charles/ St. Peters. On that day each year, the community will unite collectively to support the fight against disease and will focus on a healthy lifestyle. From 1pm-2pm, all businesses and citizens are urged to buy and/or sell only healthy items. “We need to saturate our communities with healthy options,” said Dr. Jenkins. “And by emphasizing prevention and early disease detection, we can have a healthier community.” The goal of Dr. Jenkins is to spread her efforts around the country so that June 24 will become a nationally recognized Health Day…”providing an

OUR CULTURE IS EVER-CHANGING AND CONSTANTLY SEEKING TO IMPROVE ON WHAT HAS ALREADY EXISTED. The fields of science, technology, and medicine are just a few of our rapidly changing bodies of research and discovery. We are also exploring healthier alternatives in our food, our choice of exercise and activity, and natural medicine. One such natural alternative that has been a “buzz word” for some time is acupuncture. For some, the word “acupuncture” may conjure up images of needles and feelings of fear and uncertainty. Consider this your opportunity to lay your fears to rest, and soak up some education on this alternative treatment modality. Traci Bredenkamp owns and operates Acupuncture on Main located in Historic Saint Charles. With a National and State recognized Certification for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Traci is well acquainted with the rich history and long-term benefits of this practice. The earliest record of acupuncture dates back to 100 BCE in Japan. However, many eastern countries and Europe also began to practice acupuncture at this time. Traci explains that acupuncture is “a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin filiform needles through a person’s skin at specific points on the body to various depths to stimulate the nervous system, brain and fascia (connective tissue surrounding the muscles) to heal.” Acupuncture also unblocks energy in the body known as meridians, which connect to the nervous system and can help restore the body. This process is completely pain free but can pack a punch where health benefits are concerned. Traci shares that the mind-body connection associated with acupuncture aids in various forms of physical and emotional stressors including, but not limited to: “depression, insomnia, musculoskeletal pain, allergies, immunity issues, cancer support, digestive issues, infertility, migraines, digestive issues, IBS, PCOS, sinusitis, tendonitis, and grief.” In addition, acupuncture treatment can result in “reduced back pain, relief of neck tension, relief of various joint pains in the hands/arms/hips/ankles, relief from headaches, improved immune function, enhanced mental clarity, and increased energy.” Acupuncture on Main offers additional services such as sound healing, cupping, a percussion massager, and gua sha, which is a light scraping to the surface of the skin to draw up toxins and targets tight areas of the body. Acupuncture on Main is available by appointment at AcupunctureOnMain.com or by phone at 618-207-8869.

A time when gyms are most crowded and clients start trying to lose those unwanted holiday pounds. The problem is that taking an hour out of an already busy day can be daunting. A trainer works with you to set up and explain each series of movements that would be most beneficial to you given your goals. The X2 Robotically Controlled Resistance machine is a system that has pulleys both overhead and on the side, a foot plate, a sliding seat, an adjustable bench and a large computer screen that displays realtime feedback. “In 20 short minutes, we can help you increase strength, bone density, flexibility, and mobility,” says Frank Ochoa, director of sales and marketing for QuickHIT Fitness Labs. “It eliminates the need to do any other strength training and can replace your cardiovascular workout as well,” Frank adds. Clients range from 14-year-olds who want to increase their ability to perform at their chosen sport, to 70-year-old men and women that want to maintain strength in their daily activities of living. If weight loss is your goal, the facility also has a full line of Health and Wellness Supplements, as well as nutritional guides and meal plans that can assist you. Included in the membership is access to a state-of-the-art Body Kiosk, a non-invasive scan via Near-Infrared Technology that will read your weight, lean mass, body fat, as well as your Body Mass Index and resting metabolic rate. The sessions range from $44-$55 and two sessions per week is recommended for optimal results. There are currently two locations in St. Charles County. One of the goals Community Strong Action Teams are working toward is “no new incidents of diabetes in the County.” Be sure to at least have your blood sugar checked annually.
