OPENING SOON: AHN NEIGHBORHOOD HOSPITAL IN MCCANDLESS CROSSING SHOPPING CENTER The four-story, nearly 50,000-square-foot facility is one of four neighborhood hospitals AHN is building across western Pennsylvania. The raising of the structure’s final steel beam, a major milestone in the construction of the hospital, took place earlier this year. AHN McCandless Hospital will feature full-service 24/7 emergency care with shorter wait times, on-site labs and imaging, inpatient care, along with women’s health services, including infertility treatment like in-vitro fertilization. The hospital is part of AHN's $1 billion investment to expand access to convenient, close-to-home health care services. The other three locations for the small-format hospitals include Brentwood, Harmar and Hempfield. The McCandless hospital is expected to be open by the end of this year.

Having a planner who stays up to date on the latest trends and fads is also critical. “I want my clients to have the best planner, so I am continuing to educate myself, whether it’s getting certifications or attending conferences,” she says. FINANCIAL BUZZ

APPROACHING RETIREMENT

ARTICLE JASON SOLAK PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF SECURE MONEY ADVISORS

WHILE OUR CONCEPT OF RETIREMENT MAY BE SOMEWHAT OF A FIXED IMAGE, THE PATH TO GET THERE IS CONTINUALLY EVOLVING

WITH A MODERN PERSPECTIVE

“The 401(k) has essentially replaced the pension yet people roll the dice with it and continue to take risks, risks they cannot afford to take. They do it because nine out of 10 advisers recommend risk for retirement, and it’s really easy for these advisers to take risks with someone else’s money, especially when they’re collecting a fee and/or commissions.” This leaves people vulnerable to the inevitable ebbs and flows of the market. AYELLET RUBINSTEIN AHARONI, OWNER OF RUE BOUTIQUE, TALKS FALL FASHION TRENDS AND THE BACKGROUND ON THE BRANDS SHE CARRIES

Pittsburgh North Lifestyle | September 2019

Pas de Calais look for fall at Rue Boutique.

FROM A YOUNG AGE, AYELLET RUBINSTEIN HAS ALWAYS HAD A LOVE FOR FASHION. “I was born and raised in Israel, and I’d save my money from babysitting jobs to buy beautiful clothes that were more expensive but made of better quality,” she says. With a long and successful career in retail, Ayellet finally opened her own store, Rue Boutique, in November 2016. The store, a lifestyle brand selling everything from men’s and women’s clothing to home decor and gift items, has been gradually growing ever since. A testament to the store’s service and well-curated layout, Ayellet and her incredible team keep customers coming back by the selection and quality of products in the store. “A lot of the companies I carry have interesting stories behind them and do so much good for the world,” Ayellet says. “They’re not companies just making clothes to sell them.” One such brand that Ayellet carries is called Late Sunday Afternoon out of Venice Beach, Ca. “This brand makes everything with their own hands in a planet-friendly way. With every purchase, they give a blanket to a child in foster care. In addition, from all the leftover material they have, they make comfortable dog beds that are donated to a local animal shelter. It’s incredible,” she says. Another brand the store carries recently changed its dye process to help the environment. “Bed-Stu, a shoe and accessory brand in my store, recently started using vegetable dye instead of chemical dye for the shoes and accessories they produce,” Ayellet says. “Things like this inspire more customers to invest in the quality that the brand provides because they are in turn helping great causes.” Aside from carrying brands with impactful missions, Ayellet also makes it her mission to take note and stock of the trends and desires of her clientele. Look no further than some of the stylish brands she carries—from this month’s incredible cover look from Frank & Eileen, to the looks below from Pas de Calais and Velvet by Graham & Spencer. "For women’s clothes for fall, there is more emphasis on high-waisted pants. Brands are trying to shy away from skinny jeans, which everybody loves, to wide-leg, cropped jeans as well, so expect to see variations on those in my store.” Rubinstein also notes that another big trend for fall is leopard and python prints. These animal prints are a huge trend for fall and can be worn as an accent with belts and bags, or in the clothing as a statement,” she continues. Rue Boutique’s success can ultimately be attributed to Ayellet’s point of view when it comes to selling. “I want to sell things that are unique and feel good,” she says. "Everything I stock in my store has a story, and I’m passionate about it. The fact that my customers can see that and appreciate that makes my job all the more gratifying.” RUE BOUTIQUE 730 Providence Blvd., McCandless 412.635.9900, RueBoutique.com CONTINUED >

“Each type of natural stone has different characteristics that make it harder, softer or shinier than other stones,” Dwight says. “Depending on your particular application, it is more sensible to use some types of stone rather than others.” Once the stone is acquired, the finishing process takes shape—literally!—as the stone is designed to the buyer’s preference. Like sanding wood, a smaller grit and longer sanding give stone a shinier, more polished look, whereas less will make it look more natural. “Usually, polished surfaces are used where a modern look is sought, which require more delicate care and handling compared to antiqued or tumbled surfaces, which have a natural finish and wear better over time,” Chris says. To better showcase such finishes, in 2018, Dwight and Chris opened Ultimate Granite and Stone Gallery. This by-appointment showroom houses the finest stone from around the world the company uses for its projects. Ultimately, the father and son team, along with their many employees, continue to be a company that provides ultimate quality products while maintaining exceptional customer service for generations to come. TREND SETTER

TRENDY CUTS

for men

THE STYLES YOU WANT + HOW TO GET THEM

The FADE There are many different types of fades, but ultimately a fade haircut is one that tapers in length the further down you go on the back and sides, meaning it isn’t trimmed to just one standard length all around. The level of fade (low, mid or high) depends on what point the shortest part of the hair begins to fade into a longer length. ASK FOR Taper fade, low fade, mid fade, high fade or skin fade

The man bun This popular style is good for many types of hair as long as you have a lot of it. You’ll need length in the front, back and sides generally long enough to at least brush your shoulders. KEEP IT CLEAN Be sure to keep your sideburns and neckline trimmed even as your hair grows out.

The quiff Closely related to the pompadour, the quiff haircut requires longer hair in the front and shorter hair in the back. The longer hair in the front is brushed upward and back from the forehead and away from the face. This look can be sleek and shiny for a classic look or texturized and matte for a modern take. ASK FOR Short sides and a long textured top. Be sure enough hair is left on top to brush back instead of standing straight up.
