SPECIAL, AFTER THIS YEAR’S UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES BROUGHT ON BY COVID-19 IMPACTS. For inspiration, we can all still focus on the concept of “one flag, one land, one heart, one hand, one nation evermore!” At the time of writing this article, Frisco city staffers definitely were planning to host fireworks and the Glow Run, however, they were considering and planning for adjustments for some of the other annual activities. They remain “hopeful” that they can fine-tune activities to work within current public health guidelines and individual safety concerns, but of course, their constant monitoring of the potential coronavirus alerts and updates will determine the final event execution. In the meantime, please enjoy these uplifting images from last year’s Frisco Freedom Fest. During the first week of July, visit FriscoFreedomFest.org to confirm final fest offerings.

BY PARTNERING WITH THE MINUTEMAN PRESS FRISCO TEAM, ONE CAN “My heart is to give back to our community when I can,” he says. Of the 30-plus categories of products and services that Minuteman offers, Erik says it’s still the relationships with customers that drive him. “We genuinely care about how each other’s days are going,” he says. Part of the reason that Erik says he launched the Frisco Minuteman Press office during January 2019 is that it was a good fit for the lifestyle he wanted. Plus, the business model fit his entrepreneurial mindset. From having worked for a major banking company’s customer contact team and from operating his own driving business, he says he knew he thrived in custom service aspects and that he wanted a relational business. “Now, every day is different, sometimes hour to hour is different, and I get to meet owners and managers of all types of businesses,” he says. Among the variety of businesses leveraging Erik’s Minuteman Press services are operators of barbershops, roofers, restaurants, insurance companies, nail salons, real estate agencies and karate classes, for example. Erik says he also prints labels for a business owner who makes praline bars in 10 varieties. From yard signs, menus and window graphics to banners, brochures and business forms, Erik works with them to customize products to embody the essence of their businesses. 24

Erik provides free delivery of customer products within the Frisco area. Amid COVID-19 shutdowns and public health concerns, he expanded his delivery area for those who were sheltering in place. He also worked with other nearby vendors to ensure the right types of equipment were available to keep production local. A new service he’s handling for clients is filling out and submitting city sign applications needed to secure permits for banners. “We also keep disposable masks, and spray as well as liquid sanitizer, for any customer who now comes in,” he adds. New Minuteman Press Frisco customers also receive a free cloth mask with the logo of their choice. To help businesses reopening after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, Erik says he recently has been producing disposable restaurant menus and floor graphics to designate physical-social distancing line demarcations. He also can produce items in a Microban plastic material intentionally designed to eliminate microbial growth. “We can produce anything you can put a name, image or logo on,” says Erik. 469.294.0702 8200 Stonebrook Parkway, #107 Frisco-TX.MinutemanPress.com

GIVING BACK

free ways to support local businesses PUMP UP THE ENTERPRISE HEART OF OUR COMMUNITY ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON

1) LIKE, COMMENT ON AND SHARE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS. Online algorithms drive how often and to whom posts get shared. So, business posts without much reactions to them don’t fare well in the world of social marketing. Support local businesses by leaving detailed comments, asking questions and liking or loving the posts of businesses you really want to see survive. 2) BE A BUSINESS CHEERLEADER IF YOU CAN’T BE A CUSTOMER. If you aren’t in a business’s target market or a product or service is not one you can use, a different way to support those businesses is consider buying it and giving it to someone else who could use it. 3) LEAVE AN ONLINE REVIEW. By making it a habit to leave online reviews, you’ll encourage other customers to try those products and services. And, you will prompt a smile to those working teams for those same businesses. 4) REFERRALS. Show

through

word-of-mouth.

Purposely talk about local businesses and recommend them to friends and family. That simple step will land companies with new customers, who also hopefully will use word-of-mouth to extend the goodness. 5) SIGN UP FOR COMPANY NEWSLETTERS. Newsletters are a great way to stay up-to-date with business news, updated services, hours of operation and new products. Help local businesses grow their email list by signing up and sharing links to encourage others to do so, too. 28

Corners of the Heart MAKE IT A HABIT TO NOTICE THE GOOD!

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY JULIE BROWN PATTON

CREATE A LIFE THAT FEELS GOOD ON THE INSIDE, TOO. By training our brains to seek out and soak up the good, it helps to counter life’s disappointments and threats. Seeking “the” good in life upon waking each day can be challenging. But it’s so worth it! Stress, discord, chaos and frightening developments seem to surround us more than ever lately, and that can leave our brains in the historical fight-or-flight mode for a good portion of sleep. No wonder it’s harder to clear our minds so we can be open to noticing all the little details that are going well, the simple things that bring us joy -- such as discovering secret blackberry patches, wrinkling bunny noses, busy bees bobbing with gigantic pollen thighs and hummingbirds showcasing precise, acrobatic maneuvers before your eyes can blink. Good facts and soothing developments are around us daily. The sun warms your cheeks with cheery kisses. Your favorite coffee or tea flavor smells heavenly. You catch that the sight of someone’s smile makes you automatically grin. You feel invincible when holding certain tools. An unexpected, favorite memory pops up on social media. It’s about pausing for a second to notice these inspiring, little things occurring. Make it a habit to look for “the” good, because habits become patterns, and patterns can influence lifestyles. In fact, try to make it a habit to notice so many good aspects each day, the challenge becomes finding that one best thing that gave you joy; in other words, what will be your “THE” good thing that happens each day? Allow yourself to look forward to making your good, mental list and deciding what “the” best one will be. Even look for the good in the bad by asking yourself what lessons were learned and what was gained. Remember: Life is like a camera. Focus on what’s important and capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. And if things don’t work out, just take another shot.
