WHILE REGIONAL FREELANCE ARTIST RACHEL ROE NEVER ASKED HER HUSBAND FOR DEDICATED WORK SPACE, HE GLADLY TURNED HIS BLUEPRINT PLANS FOR A GARDEN AND TOOL SHED INTO AN ART STUDIO JUST FOR HER. “It’s a designated space for me to work, but it’s also a tangible reminder of when someone believed in me when I really didn’t believe in myself,” says Rachel. of two young boys. “The space hasn’t changed much but my focus and intention when creating, nowadays, has. It’s still a space for escape and creativity, but my work hours and energy levels have changed a bit,” Rachel quips. Rachel says surrounding herself in nature, cloaked in her backyard, helps seclude her from life’s distractions. “It’s important to be so immersed in my work that it’s almost like my brain forgets what my hand’s doing. That’s also probably why I like my work space to be as cleaned-up as possible. Any extra visual clutter distracts me,” she says. Her business is known as Rachel Roe Art + Design. She’s done abstract paintings, illustrations, custom logos, commissioned portraits and digital home illustrations. She says this year she has fun collaborations and licensing projects that will be released. “I’m also starting to create pieces that are part of a larger series,” she adds. “While having a dedicated work space is awesome, I’ve had to adapt to weird work hours, such as nap and bed times, and unconventional work spaces, like painting on my kitchen table, to make it work. I think if you have a passion for something, it kind of just flows out of you and it’s not restricted to a certain time and/or a specific space,” confides Rachel. Rachel’s original work can be purchased online at RachelRoeDesign.com. 16

If you have a babysitter who likes to cook, you could set out the instructions and ingredients for them to have something fun to do with your kids—it beats ordering pizza again!

ingredients + Prep

Depending on what you order, you may need some of your own supplies. When you select your meals, think about what you will need to cook the food in and if any other kitchen utensils would be helpful. Have them ready to go so you don’t have to make any last-minute trips to the store, defeating the purpose of getting your box delivered! Look over the prep times and cook times to ensure you won’t be rushed, and have fun! If the meals are foods you would enjoy reheated, you could do all of your cooking the day you get the box to meal prep for your week, or you can just store the ingredients to the other meals in your fridge and cook them throughout the week.

If you’re a little less-experienced in the kitchen, meal kits are great for learning! Read the instructions carefully before you get started so you don’t feel frazzled while the heat is up high, and take your time. Gobble is great for beginners because all of the meals are prepped for you and can be cooked in 15 minutes with just one skillet. If you want to learn how to do more plant-based cooking for your health and the environment, Purple Carrot makes it easy to enjoy delicious meals and not even miss the meat. If you are a more seasoned chef, feel free to take your own spin on the recipes and add some extra flavor or swap out ingredients to make it perfect for your palate. This is the really fun part! It’s time to start taste-testing. Make a note tab in your phone for tracking what you love and what isn’t your favorite. GIVING BACK

ANGEL HOUSE THE INSPIRING STORY OF THE ORGANIZATION BRINGING ABANDONED CHILDREN FROM THE SLUM TO SAFETY + INTO THE LOVING ARMS OF CARETAKERS WHO WILL RAISE THEM TO BECOME FUTURE LEADERS IN THEIR GENERATION

MORE THAN 31 MILLION ORPHANS IN INDIA LIVE TRAGIC LIVES IN THE SLUMS; COMPLETELY ALONE, SEARCHING FOR A PLACE TO CALL HOME. No families, no proper clothing, and no sense of stability whatsoever. Without a miraculous rescue, each child is doomed to end up in one of three places: forced child trafficking, child labor, or begging on the streets. The reality of this injustice came to life for Lindsay Russo while caring for a group of hungry orphans during a humanitarian trip to India in 2010. Nearly 70 children, full orphans, had gathered into a tiny room with dirt floors and cinder block walls to eat their one and only meal for the day being provided by a local feeding program. The children ranged from ages 3 to 12, and they had no place to live. Moved with compassion, Lindsay was unable to turn a blind eye to what she had just witnessed. She thought, ‘These children need a safe place to call home,’ and upon her return to the States, she was determined to make it happen.
