she would still be with us today. The mission of Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) is to educate as many people as possible about the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer because, currently, there is no early detection test for the disease. Early detection and treatment are vital to increasing survival odds.

RENOVATE & REFINE

Don’t be afraid to do something different, and don’t take things too seriously. If the piece you’re working with doesn’t have any real value, you have so many options to liven it up, including paint, finish and hardware.

Spread the vintage love. Use antiques strategically and as accent pieces to keep your overall aesthetic from coming off as too dated.

Make your piece multi-purpose by turning the lid into a game table or by storing your cocktail accessories inside for an easy-access mini bar!

Repurpose old tins, mugs, teacups or storage containers into succulent gardens. Because succulents have shallow root systems, they can survive (and thrive!) in smaller spaces.

NEW HOME, NEW HUES FROM LEAH ATKINS DESIGN

BUOYED BY AN ENTHUSIASTIC YOUNG FAMILY AND A BLANK SLATE, DESIGNER LEAH ATKINS WAS GIDDY. Her clients had just bought a new house off Heards Ferry Road and tapped Leah to wave her magic wand and make the house into a home. Their priorities were minimal: find beautiful ways to display the painted family portraits throughout the home and also create engaging living areas and fun play spaces for the two elementary-aged daughters. Leah and her team work with Sandy Springs and Dunwoody clients and find the area charming, with such a wide variety of home styles and a real family focus. For this family, color became a theme, with intense wallpapers and deeply hued furnishings warming every room.

3. THE PLAYROOM

(770) 676-2796 1. The grand foyer in the home provides a bright and welcoming entrance. Leah chose to replace the extravagant iron stair spindles with white wood to give the space a more inviting and modern feel. Guests are welcomed by the curved staircase and a view into the formal living room, dining room, family room, and the upstairs hallway filled with art. Leah chose to paint the underside of the stairs a bold blue as well as the arched windows in the family room, tying the spaces together. 2. The formal living room was originally pink and outdated with a chair rail. Leah replaced the chair rail with new trim and added a gorgeous wallpaper throughout the room. Four lavender chairs circle a lavender ottoman creating the perfect conversation space. The seating area is reflected in the lacquered ceiling, also lavender to balance the room. The turquoise chandelier and coral rug bring in pops of color that accent the wallpaper beautifully. 3. The playroom for the two girls was designed with their styles in mind. Leah created a space that is fit for kids but will also grow with them. Toys were used on the shelves as decor and the perfect reading nook was created with built-ins. The walls were covered in a blue dotted wallpaper and the cupcake roman shades add the perfect finishing touch. This room gives the girls a space to read, craft, and play games together. 4. The second master bedroom upstairs serves as a luxurious guest suite. The custom headboard, bed skirt, and drapes each incorporate the same striped velvet fabric to create an elevated vibe. The small console bedside table is ideal to be used as both a nightstand and a desk, providing guests with a spot to read or write comfortably. 30
