MAIN STREET MEDINA REPORTS CONTINUED GROWTH THROUGHOUT 2019 As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a nationally certified Ohio Main Street Program, Main Street Medina spearheads efforts to preserve the economic sustainability of Medina's Historic District by sponsoring and producing events, facilitating the attraction of new business and expansion of existing ones, promoting the location, supporting economic development and more. Their annual review reflected that the nonprofit organization experienced a year of financial stability and growth in 2019. Main Street sponsored over 40 events that year alone, with the Candlelight Walk being their biggest event, according to The Medina Gazette.
CHARITABLE GIVING IN MEDINA COUNTY RANKED AMONG OHIO'S BEST At the end of 2019, The Medina Gazette reported that Medina County was ranked fourth in a recently completed study measuring charitable giving. The study, completed by New Yorkbased financial firm SmartAsset, used data from the Internal Revenue Service to access 10 different communities' level of charitable giving. According to The Gazette, "tax return numbers using federal, state and local payments as well as deductible entries such as mortgage interest, mortgage points and mortgage insurance payments were taken into account. The study then took those totals and divided each county's total charitable donations by its total net income. The results of these numbers were narrowed down to a 'donation index.' The study then divided communities' number of tax returns with charitable contributions by the total number of all tax returns. These results were classified as a 'contributor index.'" The study reported that Medina County had a donation index of 18.0 and a contributor index of 61.2, placing the county fourth overall. 10

COLOR TRENDS ARE PREDICTED BY COLLECTING
CONSUMER
REPORTS
FROM PURCHASES OF HOME GOODS, FASHION AND INDUSTRY FORECASTS. For 2020, the collective reports show consumers are gravitating towards surrounding themselves with serene and calmness. According to Sherwin Williams paint forecasts, colors are divided into five categories: Alive, Mantra, Play, Haven and Heart. + ALIVE: Deep tones, olives, navy, sleepy blue and clay. + MANTRA: Pastels with gray undertones. Misty taupe, (breathless is reported to be the color of the year) mystical and grayish. + PLAY: Clean colors. Black, pink, teal, gold, aqua and berry. + HAVEN: A more intense tone with gray undertones. Granite, functional gray and porter green. + HEART: Deeper neutral colors. Beige, taupe, grayish-whites and tan.

OPEN HOUSE (CONTINUED)
If we were to select one color that we think will be the most successful in 2020 in both home décor and paint, that color would be green–or more accurately, shades of green. This includes everything from green-blues such as deep emerald to muted sage greens. However, it will likely be more of those complex and muddy shades of green with gray undertones that we will see. As interior designers, we are often asked our thoughts on a single color in home décor
Master Bedroom
and are always approached with what is the new neutral. The Mantra and Heart categories as described above both include similar neutral looks in color. The master bedroom pictured in this article is subtle and serene, keeping with the core neutrals of Mantra by using only shades of taupe and whites. Shades of taupe are a warmer and softer feel to what we have seen in past years. The great advantage of using these tones as your base colors in your design is the flexibility that it gives you. Adding in an accent color like turquoise, aqua, navy and black can create a dramatic contrast. Sometimes a bold color trend such as Play can be accomplished with pops of colors in accessories. The living room pictured has a contemporary style with clean lines and architectural elements on the fireplace stone, wood flooring and wall color in the neutral Heart category. We added accents in the Play look to finish out the room.

Home Office
In the kitchen (pictured on the first page of this article), you see pictured we used a large selection of grey-beige, taupe, cream and gray-green. The views at this residence presented us with a desire for more organic elements, such as natural wood tones and beautiful stones/granites. This home falls under the Haven category. The home office we have designed is a great combination of the Alive and Mantra categories. It shows soft touches of pastel aqua walls, and the ivory of the cabinets and cream of the area rug contrast beautifully with the bold black background of the bookcase, gold and turquoise patterns of the wallpaper and the accent chair. For more information about this year’s color trends, consult the interior design experts at The Interior Design Studio by visiting them online at InteriorDesignStudioOH.com or by calling 330.725.7623. WHAT’S THE FIRST THING THAT SOMEONE USUALLY NOTICES WHEN THEY DRIVE PAST YOUR HOME OR PULL UP IN YOUR DRIVEWAY? It’s your front doot. The front door to your home can make a big first impression and a bold statement about your personal style. Real estate agents will tell you that, along with landscaping, your front door is the key to giving your home the ultimate curb appeal. Father and son, John and Dave Fetherolf, of Bent Nail Architectural Millwork, are the local experts in custom doors of all kinds. Bent Nail specializes in entry and interior doors for both residential and commercial projects. And, as their name would indicate, they handle a large spectrum of other custom woodworking projects besides doors.

Medina County's Most Trusted Name in Home Solution Services HALLMARK HOME SOLUTIONS CELEBRATES 14 YEARS OF BUSINESS
ARTICLE WARREN WATKINS PHOTOGRAPHY HALLMARK HOME SOLUTIONS
STARTED IN 2006 BY MIKE HALL, HALLMARK HOME SOLUTIONS HAS BEEN PROVIDING MEDINA AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES WITH THE FINEST OPTIONS IN WINDOWS, DOORS, METAL SHINGLE ROOFS AND CLOSET SYSTEMS FOR OVER 14 YEARS. After working in the window and door industry for 38 years, Mike opened Hallmark to provide what he felt was a better way to serve customers with quality windows and doors. His son, Bryan, came aboard in 2016 and has helped the company expand its services, which includes their metal roofing, interior doors and custom closet systems. By adding metal shingle roofing to their services, Hallmark has tapped into a specialty market of roofing that few home renovation companies in the area can offer. Metal shingle roofing is surging in popularity as more aesthetic options have become available. Homeowners now have the ability to choose from styles of metal shingles that imitate 26

materials like slate, tile and wood shakes. When looking at a metal shingle roof from the street, most people would have a difficult time recognizing a roof finished with metal shingles. Metal shingle roofs are also more energy efficient than traditional asphalt roofs. Although aesthetic is important, the biggest advantage to installing a metal shingle roof on your home is its longevity. It's not uncommon for metal shingle roofs to last for 50 years, which is two to three times longer than an asphalt shingle will last. That reason alone is why Hallmark added metal shingle roofing installation to the services that they provide. “We want to supply our customers with products that provide longevity with them,” says Bryan. “For instance, we don’t want to sell you a roof that will last 15 years like a typical asphalt shingle does. We want you to buy the last roof your house will need while you live there. And the same thing goes for our windows. We offer our customers a lifetime warranty on our windows as well.” By offering a lifetime warranty, Hallmark Home Solutions has created and maintained a solid reputation with local homeowners because they have made that conscious decision to work with products and materials that are meant to last. When Mike went into business for himself, he knew that if he wanted to be successful and competitive he would need to cut out the middle man or wholesaler. By doing so, he was able to lower the cost of his windows and doors. It also made it much easier to get For more information about Hallmark Home Solutions, visit HallmarkHomeSolutions.com or call 1.888.587.8189.
parts under warranty by going directly to the manufacturer. Mike explains his business strategy by saying, “If you go to a wholesaler, you have to buy what they sell. We pick what we sell. Most companies have maybe only one or two window lines and they’re going to come in and tell you why that window is everything you need. We carry multiple manufactures and multiple styles. We have vinyl, wood and aluminum windows. So based on what you are

looking for, we can get you the window that fits your needs, not try to simply sell you on what we have.” It's certainly a strategy that has served him well over the years. Hallmark’s referral and previous customer business accounts for 70% of their sales. Such a high number tells you that people want to do business with Hallmark again and are so pleased with the service and products that they want their friends and family to do business with them as well. During our conversation, it was easy for me to see why Hallmark has such a high percentage of referral and repeat business. Mike seemed more comfortable telling me about happy customers than he did telling me about how his business has grown over the years. When making a point about having a window finished the way the customer wants it before it’s even installed (instead of putting the window in and having the customer finish it or paint it afterward), he says, “If they want it painted or stained, we’ll see that it gets done before it’s installed so that when we are done, all they have to do is put the drapes back up.” No sooner had Mike finished that sentence than Bryan chimed in with: “But if they ask us to, we’ll put the drapes back up for them too!” With attitudes like that, it’s obvious why Mike and Bryan Hall have made Hallmark Home Solutions the most trusted name in home improvement and restoration services in Medina County and beyond. 28

Fine arts meets performing arts. Experience the thrill of witnessing giant masterpieces being created before your eyes in mere moments and join the challenge to see if you can guess what is being created.
