THE YEAR IS 2020 AND THE SEASONS ARE SHIFTING IN A MOST UNPREDICTABLE WAY. Summer is here, the days are long and unhurried, the sun is warm on our faces. If you are a book lover, reading is the perfect pastime. While we treasure the excitement of rich historical novels, brilliant biographies and exploring the unknown, we also crave a good “how to”. Imagine books that hearten the best of life, both personally and professionally.

For many, time at home has expanded exponentially and through this lens we are able to focus on what really matters. Following a spring with ample time for chores and home improvements, “staycation” is next level. Our holiday destination may be our freshly painted front porch, swaying on a comfy hammock or appreciating the efforts of a well manicured lawn. Wherever our happy place is, now more than ever we seek: more joy, more purpose and more opportunity. So carve out and create a happy space to unwind and relax, linger over literature and gather inspiration and motivation.
JOY AT WORK Hit the refresh button on your work space this summer. We all know disorganized papers and unnecessary tasks are the modern-day hazards of working, and they can slowly undermine our well-being. In Joy at Work, Marie Kondo and Rice University business professor Scott Sonenshein offer stories, studies, and strategies to help make space for work that really matters. Using the world-renowned KonMari Method and cutting-edge research, Joy at Work will help you enjoy the productivity, success, and happiness that come with a tidy desk and mind.
YOU ARE A BADASS AT MAKING MONEY You Are a Badass at Making Money will launch you past the stumbling blocks that have kept financial success beyond your reach. Drawing on her own transformation—over just a few years—from a woman living in a converted garage with tumbleweeds blowing through her bank account to a woman who travels the world in style. Jen Sincero channels the inimitable sass and practicality that made, You Are a Badass an indomitable bestseller. She combines hilarious personal essays with bite-size, aha concepts that unlock earning potential and get real results.
THE BOOK OF JOY Two spiritual giants. One timeless question. In April 2015, Archbishop Tutu traveled to the Dalai Lama's home in India, to celebrate His Holiness's eightieth birthday and to create what they hoped would be a gift for others. How do we find joy in the face of life's inevitable suffering? They traded intimate stories, teased each other continually, and shared their spiritual practices. In this unique collaboration, The Book of Joy offers us a reflection amidst turmoil, to discover a level of peace and courage to live a life brimming with joy.

1. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream, sugar and vanilla with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form in the mixture. 2. Start with a thin layer of whipped cream on the bottom of a springform pan (determine the size by how large or small you want your icebox cake to be). Then top with an even layer of chocolate (or your favorite kind of ice cream). 3. For the next layer, top with an even layer of cookie crumbles, cake crumbles, chocolate candies, crushed graham crackers or anything else you want to layer your cake with. 4. Continue with layers of whipped cream, ice cream and toppings until you have reached the top of your pan. 5. Refrigerate at least 4 hours, top with more cookie crumbles or chocolate sauce, slice and enjoy!

ARTICLE REBECCA FRIEDMAN
FRESH AND SIMPLE LEMON CURD
CITRUS IS IN SEASON. Stores will have beautiful fresh lemons and oranges from spring and into early summer. It’s hard to find recipes that use more than just a few tablespoons of lemon juice, though. Lemon curd is a rich and buttery spread made from simple ingredients. It’s easy to make and can be used to fill dessert pastry shells, served with pound cake, or spread on toast or English muffins. It is both sweet and tart, and pairs well with berries. Serve it with pancakes or waffles and top with some fresh raspberries or strawberries for an impressive brunch. Using this recipe, I won first place in category (curds and soft spreads) in a statewide canning competition.
lemon curd INGREDIENTS
+ 3/4 c. lemon juice (or orange juice)* + 1 tbsp. grated lemon peel + 1/4 c. butter, cut into pieces + 1 1/4 c. sugar** + 4 eggs, lightly beaten *Fresh or bottled juice will work. **Use 1 cup sugar when using a less acidic lemon juice (like Meyer lemon) or orange juice.
INSTRUCTIONS Place a non-reactive bowl over a pan of simmering water to create a “double boiler.” Combine the lemon juice and peel, butter and sugar, in the double boiler stirring until the butter has melted. Add the beaten eggs to the lemon mixture, stirring it constantly with a wooden spoon. Continue to stir over medium to low heat until the mixture has thickened and coats the back of a spoon. (Be careful not to overcook, or it will separate.) I'm Rebecca, a Westfield native living in California where I own
