MY CAMARO 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO Z-28 RS

MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH CARS COMES NATURALLY. My dad is a car buff, and I grew up on the aroma of exhaust and Turtle Wax. When I was 10 years old, I remember seeing what I thought was the perfect looking car! It was a Camaro. So sleek, so powerful looking… Oooh, it was gorgeous! I knew it was the car for me. When I turned 16 and told my dad that I wanted a Camaro. “Well then, you better get a job,” he said. From my first job at 11, removing staples from stacks of paper to be scanned at his office, through the many jobs after that… I worked summers and holidays solely with that Camaro in mind. At 17, I bought that LeMans Blue 1969 Z-28 RS Camaro! I picked up my best friend Leann for the inaugural ride and have been in love with it ever since. Now I’m privileged to be able to use it for something good. Each year, Choate Construction hosts Cars & ‘Q, a charity car show and party to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic, terminal disease that eventually took the life of my friend Leann, the original inspiration behind our support of CF. Through car buffs uniting, funds have been raised and dedicated to curing CF, resulting in dramatic medical breakthroughs that have drastically changed the landscape of cystic fibrosis.

WITH BUCKHAVEN LIVING WITH A NEW NORMAL, TAKING CARE OF OUR SKIN DURING SUCH A CHAOTIC AND STRESSFUL TIME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER. Stress along with stress eating can create inflammation in the body and weakens our immune system. At Artisan Beaute’ in Buckhead, we are here for you and your skincare needs.

BuckHaven Lifestyle | May 2020

1. Wash your hands. Sounds easy enough, but not performed enough before touching that beautiful face. 2. Cleanse with Lait U. Leave cleanser on and use frozen cryosticks as an inflammation reducer. Massage with lymphatic drainage movements - starting from the center of the face and moving out, releasing TMJ tightness, and going on the jaw as well. Focus on lifting to prevent sagging in the skin. 3. Add in a mask frequently to maintain balance in the skin especially since you can’t see your favorite esthetician during this time! (Let’s talk – send a DM on Instagram at: @ArtisanBeauteAtlanta – address it to Bisma, and just let us know “I need help with my skincare," and I will personally respond to you, and go through every step unique to you and your skin. You might even get a little something extra special. 4. Sprays of Leauxygenante all over my face to keep it simple. This is like an intense vitamin shower for your skin. 5. Apply your prescribed serums as recommended by your aesthetician. 6. Creme Masque Vernix layered on the skin (I will sometimes sleep in a thin layer) for approximately 20 minutes. I use the prescribed creme for my skin in the AM along with finishing serum. Ask me what I think about finishing serums, the conversation may never stop. I love them!

CRYOSTICKS ARE LIFE. Especially as we enter into the warmer weather, I promise you won’t regret it. My favorite are by Biologique Recherche`, and available at Artisan Beaute` (along with my other favorite must-have products). All tightness and tension in the face, especially with the major current events, dissipates. CityLifestyle.com/BuckHaven

MOTHER AND

Daughter MAKE HISTORY FRANKLIN POND DUO INTRODUCE YOUNG ATLANTA MUSICIANS TO THE PLEASURE AND EXCITEMENT OF CHAMBER MUSIC

BuckHaven Lifestyle | May 2020

FAMOUS MOTHER-DAUGHTER COMBINATIONS AREN’T RARE. Think Anne Boleyn and her daughter Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Wollstonecraft and daughter Mary Shelley (Frankenstein author) or, more recently, Judy Garland and daughter Liza Minnelli. But northside Atlanta has a notable pair of its own, who are making a powerful impact on the city’s classical music scene. Ronda Respess and daughter Virginia (Ginny) Respess Fairchild are the unique pair of Atlanta musicians leading Franklin Pond Chamber Music, a flourishing year-round non-profit program for talented young musicians of middle-and high-school ages. Both are also established professional musicians, Ronda as a violinist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Ginny with the Atlanta Opera Orchestra. Love for chamber music led Ronda to found Franklin Pond almost 20 years ago. The program began with just four string quartets of students practicing at her home on Franklin Pond Road. Two quartets were assigned to bedrooms, another to the living room, and the fourth to the porch – when it wasn’t raining. The sixteen students were coached by professional musicians from the Atlanta Symphony, with occasional guest artists leading master classes. Ronda’s idea met with enthusiastic reception from the young musicians. Franklin Pond grew dramatically into a year-around program with regular public recitals and an expanding team of professional musicians, plus 4-day retreat at Jekyll Island. Because chamber music is composed for a small ensemble of instruments playing together in an intimate setting, usually without a conductor, it offers young musicians the fellowship of practicing and performing with others without stepping into the formality and intimidation of a full orchestra. It requires immediate communication with other players and with the audience, presenting opportunities for leadership, cooperation and inspiration. Ronda’s daughter Ginny is now a key part of Franklin Pond Chamber Music, administering its diverse activities under the supervision of a board of 15 devoted music lovers from the Atlanta community. She’s currently absorbed in details for hosting Franklin Pond’s most dramatic and high-profile activity: The Third Annual Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition. This year’s competition, open to all young Georgia chamber music groups, is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend at Spivey Hall, the Atlanta-area chamber music mecca. An international panel of prominent judges will select the recipients for cash prizes in multiple categories. Young musicians take note! Hundreds of young people from the Atlanta area have participated in FPCM’s programs. Amazingly, half of them have gone on to study music in college or graduate school, and numerous participants have chosen music-making for their life work. “Franklin Pond made me be a musician!” one young musician explained recently. “Playing chamber music is a great human exercise. It allows you to have a distinct voice, while it teaches you to listen to the other players around you. It inspires you to do your best. Most chamber music study programs are for older people, but Ronda and Franklin Pond want to instill these values in younger kids. They’re right—you’re hooked for a lifetime of making music with other music-lovers.” A talented mother-daughter duo ensures that this exciting experience is available to Atlanta’s talented young musicians. connecting 30 acres of green space together with a 3-mile walking trail known as the Blueway Trail. The project has taken 3 years to complete and Blue Heron raised over $750,000 for trail construction and improvements. “Visitors can now travel seamlessly to all three Blue Heron properties. It’s a significant milestone as we continue to grow and evolve,” executive director Kevin McCauley said. “Plans for Phase 2 include linking Blue Heron’s trails to nearby Chastain Park and PATH400.” Blue Heron also celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Blue Heron Nature Preserve shares its facilities at 4055 Roswell Road with the Atlanta Audubon Society and The Amphibian Foundation, making the Preserve an environmental asset unlike any other in metro-Atlanta.
