The team earned the #37 spot on the list as one of the top teams in the nation in 2019 for closed units and also took the #52 spot for its 2019 sales by transaction volume, moving up over 130 spots from last year’s ranking. Locally the team is ranked as the #1 selling Real Estate Team in the RVA region by volume and units and was also voted as Richmond’s Best Real Estate Team in 2019 by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Going into its 6th year of business, The Yeatman Group is set to climb the charts yet again this year and is on pace to sell over 600 homes and over $250 million in Real Estate sales volume and continues to provide a “New Way to Real Estate” in 2020.

COUNTY LAUNCHES NEW “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS” WEB PAGE Photo by Emily Alwood, EmmiClaire Photography

NEW STATE LAW SUPPORTS SOLAR INSTALLATIONS Interested in solar power, but concerned about HOA objections? Sunlight Solar says: They can’t stop you. The Virginia Energy Plan, approved as S.B. 504 on July 1, restricts homeowners associations from prohibiting solar installations unless there’s a recorded declaration that demonstrates “reasonable restrictions” concerning size, location, number and manner of placement on the property. The bill says a restriction will not be deemed reasonable if it adds to installation costs by 5% over the projected cost or decreases projected output by more than 10%. “This is big news for people who’ve felt they’ve been treated unfairly when pursing a greener, more efficient, cost-effective energy source as HOAs have typically made it difficult to get approval,” said Brandon Fuller, operations director for Sunlight Solar.

Chesterfield County has launched a new citizen web page, “Know Your Rights and Resources.” The purpose of the page is to connect residents to national, state and local organizations fighting discrimination in the areas of credit, education, employment, healthcare, housing, public accommodation, voting and more. The page provides links to federal human rights laws enacted to shield federally protected classes from discrimination, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Civil Rights Act, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Fair Housing Act, and more. The page can be found at www.KnowYourRightsRVA.com. The county’s Department of Citizen Information and Resources will manage the web page. The new web page is a joint initiative of Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover counties.

LOCALLY OWNED GIFT SHOP IS KNOWN FOR ITS PERSONALITY AND PERSONAL SERVICE NEED A SPECIAL GIFT? SOMETHING AFFORDABLE? PREFER TO PATRONIZE A SMALL LOCAL BUSINESS? You’ll find all that and more at Tweed. In business since 2004 at 4035 Lauderdale Drive in Henrico County, the shop is owned and managed by Kate Stottlemyer and her mom and dad, Carol and Paul Viall. The 6,000-square-foot shop sells gifts for every occasion, including bridal and baby showers, and carries branded collegiate merchandise, Richmond-themed products, boutique-style clothing, beach décor, gifts for dog and cat lovers, and more. “We love finding unique and well-priced items,” Stottlemyer said. One of Tweed’s specialties is the full line of bags by Scout, a Washington, 20

Midlothian Lifestyle | September 2020

D.C.-based brand known for colorful totes that mix both function and fashion. The shop is the No. 1 single-location Scout retailer and one of 10 Scout destination shops in the United States. Personalization is also a large part of Tweed’s business with in-house embroidery, engraving, printing and vinyl machines. “We can personalize just about anything in the store,” Stottlemyer said. The newest addition to the personalization side of the business is Tweed Studio, which features hand-drawn illustrations of homes, penned from a photograph, and then precision engraved on wood cutting boards that are crafted locally. Stottlemyer is always on the prowl for new gift ideas and trends, and the store displays are constantly refreshed with new products. “If you have not been to Tweed this week, then you have not been to Tweed,” she said. “We want to thrill our customers every time they visit the store, so finding new products is essential.” Complimentary gift wrap is another way Tweed wows its customers. “We want our customers to know that when they come into the store, they will leave with a beautifully wrapped gift.” Stottlemyer grew up in New Jersey and caught the entrepreneurial bug as a kid working in her mother’s bookstore and gift shop. “She’s always been a hard worker,” said Carol Viall. “Through high school and college she had three jobs.” One of those jobs, working at the shop, eventually won out over waitressing and lifeguarding. Stottlemyer fell in love with Virginia while studying at RandolphMacon, and it wasn’t long before Carol and Paul also relocated to Virginia. Now married with two sons who arrived not long after the shop opened, Stottlemyer has continued the family tradition. “I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with my parents every day,” she said, “and to learn this business from the best.” A website refresh in 2018 added e-commerce to tweedathome.com, positioning the store to continue serving customers when COVID-19 hit and the store was forced to close temporarily. “Our online business never stopped, and we were able to offer curbside pick-up and delivery while we were closed to customers shopping inside the store,” Stottlemyer said. Since reopening in May, Tweed has continued to offer curbside pickup for customers who were not yet ready to come back inside the store. While Stottlemyer and Viall are curtailing travel due to COVID, eliminating an annual buying trip to Atlanta, they continue to work with product reps looking for classic and trendy merchandise. Facemasks and home décor continue to be strong sellers. “People have been home more, so they’re coming in and looking for a quick and easy refresh for their home,” Stottlemyer said. For the future, Stottlemyer plans to expand the e-store offerings and to continue to bring in new and unique products to the store. www.TweedatHome.com

ROBBIE BOLT, GENERAL MANAGER OF THE FLOOR STORE, HAS WORKED IN FLOORING FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS, AS AN ESTIMATOR, SALESMAN, SALES MANAGER, AND TERRITORY MANAGER. During that time, he visited a lot of flooring showrooms – and he was making mental notes. “I’ve been in everyone’s showroom in Central Virginia,” he said. “I saw what worked and things I didn’t like.” Those mental notes became reality this past February, when Bolt opened The Floor Store showroom at 1281 Carmia Way. Custom designed by Bolt, the showroom combines the best and eliminates the rest.

AT THE FLOOR STORE, WHAT CUSTOMERS WANT IS TYPICALLY IN STOCK - SO PROJECTS GET DONE FAST

Midlothian Lifestyle | September 2020

Robbie Bolt and The Floor Store team

“So many flooring showrooms look like outlets,” said Bolt, who has seen his share of untidy, unappealing floor stores. By contrast, Bolt’s showroom is large, well-lit, and very organized. Customers are greeted by knowledgeable associates at a reception and consultation area. Beyond, customers can go left to browse giant rolls of neutral-toned carpet, straight ahead to peruse hard flooring options showcased on custom-made elevated presentation tables, or go right to meander through a selection of sample boards sorted by type. One thing Bolt knew he wanted was enough space to have popular brands and styles in stock. In addition to the carpet rolls that fill the entire left wall of the showroom, hard flooring is stacked in boxes underneath the elevated presentation tables, and a warehouse in back offers additional storage space, plus a loading dock. Customers who hate to hear, “We’ll order that for you and it’ll be here in two weeks,” are apt to be pleased at The Floor Store. “Most showrooms just show you samples,” Bolt said. “We buy in bulk so that we have many of the most popular products in stock. Buying in bulk also allows us to offer lower prices.” CONTINUED >

SHARING A CHEESE AND CHARCUTERIE BOARD WITH GUESTS IS EASILY ONE OF LIFE’S FINEST PLEASURES. Charcuterie – from the French for “cooked meat” – encompasses all sorts of preserved meats, including salami, prosciutto, pate, and confits. Creating a charcuterie assortment is virtually impossible to get wrong. When creating a board, have fun, experiment, and let whimsy be your guide! Start by selecting 3-5 cheeses of different textures and milks. Try one soft, one firm, one wild card, and one blue. Next, choose charcuterie items, like dry cured salami and a chunk of pâté. Third, choose accompaniments – something sweet (dried or fresh fruits), something nutty (plain or candied), something pickled or briny, a chutney, jam or honey, even sliced fresh cucumber or radishes. Top off with a crusty baguette and some wine, and you have a satisfying meal where every bite becomes an exploration of new flavor combinations. For best taste, let your cheeses and meats come to room temperature before serving. Sara Adduci is a self-proclaimed cheese and charcuterie nerd. After falling for a two-year aged gouda in 2004, Sara started working in a cheese

This nose-to-tail butcher shop, opened in 2006 by Tanya Cauthen, boasts a fine selection of cut-toorder meats, house-made specialties, artisanal cheeses, wines, and a knowledgeable staff to help you find exactly what you need. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE CELL PHONES EQUIPPED WITH CAMERAS THAT HAVE GREAT FUNCTIONALITY AND PRODUCE HIGH-QUALITY IMAGES, ALLOWING USERS TO TAKE PHOTOS GOOD ENOUGH TO PRINT AND FRAME OR HANG ON THE WALL. Of course, there are a plethora of phones out there with cameras of varying quality, and each has its own specifics. Personally, I have the Google Pixel 3, which takes extraordinary photos, and other phone brands have similarly high-quality cameras built in. But having a great cell phone camera is only half the battle. A lot depends on you, the cell phone photographer. What do you need to do to make sure your cell phone photos are the best they can possibly be? I want you to look at your camera roll on your phone. See if you notice any differences in the photos. Think about possible reasons why they are different. What time of day were these photos taken? Were the subjects in full sun or shade – or maybe a mix of both? What was the angle when you were capturing your subject? These are all questions I consider when I’m out on the job taking professional photos, and also when I’m just taking photos on my phone. There is definitely a strategy in doing this, and here I’ll be sharing some tips and tricks to help you feel empowered and confident in taking your own phone photos of your family, friends, and whatever else strikes your fancy.
