Hello friends, MY MOM USED TO SAY, “APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS.” Here in the south, our flowering trees and bulbs have already started to pop and spring is tugging us along into warmer weather. Mom was an optimist. Living in Michigan, perhaps were it not for her sunny disposition, we would have all been miserable. Winter goes on and on there (though, not this year, as our globe struggles). My brother Tim was born in Detroit April 20 and more than once he celebrated a birthday with a toboggan party at the golf course. Now, he lives in Northern Michigan, above the 45th parallel and chops cords of wood each fall to fuel his wood-burning furnace all winter long. He was born to embrace winter, I guess. Happy Birthday, big brother! I applaud his commitment to using renewable and natural resources (fallen wood from his property - helping keep the forest fire free and healthy). Over its lifecycle, the biomass is a carbon-neutral fuel source. Cool! In my house, I can’t do anything quite as grandiose, but I recycle religiously, try to buy gently used stuff (garden tools, baby gear for the grandson, shelves for the garage, lawn furniture, even a sweet ski jacket) and add as little mass to the landfill as I can.

Much of the architecture, however, is pastel and proper, tipping toward colonial, influenced by Danish settlers giving Aruba a refined and welcoming face. What began as a fishing outpost for Amerindians has changed hands between the Spanish and Dutch throughout the centuries, and is now a diverse constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Aruba is a true melting pot, with over 90 nationalities represented in its population of more than 110,000 friendly residents. The pride runs deep, calling Arubans home. Daniel grew up in Aruba, starting at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino as a bar back and was recognized for his gregarious nature and work ethic. He says Marriott believed in him and provided extensive mixology training and now he is a featured bartender at the swank lobby bar and restaurant. The night we arrived, he was shaking a very sophisticated Old Fashioned, smoked in a tiny jewel box fired with cedar chips. That beats rum punch all day. Aruba continued to surprise me, with 18 percent of the island designated a national park. Arikok National Park stretches across nearly 8,000 acres along Aruba’s rugged northeast coastline. The volcanic lava formations provide an exciting terrain for an adventurous 14

drive in an open-air UTV (utility terrain vehicle). Getting behind the wheel, settling into the bumps and ruts, I forgot where I was until our guide signaled us to pull off, pointing to Conchi, The Natural Pool. We stopped for a swim in the warm water to rinse off the dust, listening to the wild waves crashing just the other side of the cliffs. To soothe our windburned faces, we stopped at the Aruba Aloe Factory, toured the farm founded in 1890 and slathered on their hypoallergenic face lotion fortified with pure aloe vera (leaves hand-cut within hours of harvest), vitamin E and jojoba oil. Heading back to the Marriott, we had a choice between the family pool and adult-only pool. The larger “family” pool offered up just the right amount of party with three generations hanging out by the pool bar, a surprisingly talented frat boy grandson singing Motown hits, poolside, generously playing to the audience of late afternoon swimmers all sipping drinks. We watched the sunset over five courses at the Marriott’s “pop up” restaurant, Atardi, ON the beach. Tucking our shoes away on the patio, we could dig our toes into the sand and feel Aruba’s pull.

When he and Joe toured the space, they immediately realized the camp’s potential for growth and the possibility of providing other workshop and camp opportunities throughout the year. They are continuing to seek partners to help make this happen. “We are always looking for new restaurant sponsors to help with lunches, and we applaud Chick fil-A, Roasters, and Café 290 for their continuing support,” says Joe. “We are excited to get to know our new Sandy Springs neighboring businesses in the vibrant downtown area.” Sandy Springs and Dunwoody area jazz fans know Joe Gransden and his 16-piece Big Band from Cafe 290, where they play the first and third Mondays of each month, and it’s been his tradition to invite local high school jazz bands to open for his show. “We have middle and high school bands play from 8:00 - 8:30 then invite them to stick around and listen to our set,” says Joe. “It’s a great opportunity for the young musicians to experience a professional band in a smaller venue and we’re always impressed by the level of talent these students bring.” Joe’s Jazz Camp is supported, in part, by generous contributions from benefactors who sponsor scholarships, donate equipment and volunteer time to help make the students’ experience smooth and meaningful. means there need to be gorgeous drinkware options, serving platters, cheese boards, and more that can function for a large party atmosphere and in your daily life at home. We also wanted to make sure we had unique monogramming options, for those wanting something more unique & modern as their signifier. WREN is the ideal collection for what you need at home, complete with stylish + modern monograms in a ridiculously easy-to-shop digital store.” For Dave Brautigan, Founder of WREN & Carved Solutions, a 2019 Fortune 5000 company, developing WREN home has been a collaborative team effort. Every team member is involved in each step of the design, testing, and manufacturing process. At the top of Dave’s mind: “People don’t have room for a large cupboard of cutlery, silverware and fine china and they certainly don’t have time to hand wash every single piece. And, we wanted to ensure that the products are crafted in the United States, with an emphasis on living wage facilities and environmentally safe practices.” The WREN home product line-up consists of premium glass and acrylic drinkware, triple-milled soaps, custom linens, as well as exceptional cutting boards, serving boards, and trays. Spring Clean You OUR FRIENDS AT CREATIVE MEDSPA INTRODUCE THREE TREATMENTS FOR YOU TO CONSIDER FOR A SEASON OF YOU.

VIVACE

MICRONEEDLING

WITH RADIO-FREQUENCY Clear your bathroom vanity by purging all those beauty products that just don’t work. Looking youthful and beautiful is one thing we all aspire to. For many of us, it is crucial not only in our personal life, but our business life as well. Looking beautiful is subjective, but it is my belief that we all strive to look our best. These days, science and technology in the beauty industry is so advanced, achieving and maintaining a healthy, youthful appearance is easier and more affordable than you think. At Creative Medspa, we offer the latest, most advanced rejuvenating treatments that will not only stop aging in its tracks, they will reverse it! Our most popular treatment, the Vivace Fractional Microneedling with RadioFrequency combines the rejuvenating benefits of microneedling with the skin tightening effects of radio-frequency and the healing benefits of

LED light. This trifecta of skin rejuvenation improves skin tone, texture and firmness and leaves you with brighter, tighter, youthful looking skin. When we combine these treatments with our top-of-the-line, medical grade skin care products, chosen just for you by our experienced, internationally licensed aesthetician, your treatment results will be enhanced and maintained for years to come. TRUSCULPT 3D Don’t throw out your skinny clothes just yet! truSculpt 3D is a non-surgical radio-frequency treatment that will permanently destroy targeted fat cells and will sculpt and contour your body. Patients have experienced an average of 24% reduction in fat thickness in one single treatment. Although the primary target is fat, a potential benefit is skin tightening and the reduction in the appearance of stubborn cellulite. The procedure is virtually pain free and there is absolutely no downtime. Although many start to see their results in 6 - 8 weeks, full results are visible by 12 weeks. LASER HAIR REMOVAL Throw out those razors! Shaving is annoying and time-consuming. Not to mention, it can cause ingrown hairs, cuts, bumps and razor burn. Many of us find ways to eliminate shaving by using depilatory creams or by waxing, but these methods often irritate the skin and are not permanent. Laser Hair Removal is an effective solution to getting rid of that unwanted hair so you can forgo shaving indefinitely! Our lasers are safe for all skin tones and ethnicities and can treat everything from coarse to fine hair. Our experienced, internationally licensed aesthetician is also a certified laser specialist so you can rest assured you’ll receive the highest level of service, skill and efficacy. CULINARY CREATIONS

Meatless Monday DAVIO'S MUSHROOM BOLOGNESE

Mushroom Bolognese INGREDIENTS + 1 onion, coarsely chopped + 1 medium carrot, coarsely chopped + 1 celery rib, coarsely chopped + 1 medium parsnip, chopped + 1 pound king oyster mushrooms + 1 pound of lobster mushrooms + 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil Kosher salt Ground pepper + 1 ounce dried porcini mushrooms + 1/2 cup dry red wine + 1/2 cup Parmigiano-Reggiano, plus + 24 oz of San Marzano tomatoes + 1/4 cup mascarpone cheese + 1 teaspoon minced basil + 1 teaspoon of parsley + 1 1/2 pounds spaghetti, cooked until al dente and kept warm

DIRECTIONS Although mushrooms aren’t packed with protein, these earthy, umami tasting plants surpass meat in many ways. Besides being low in calories and fat, mushrooms are rich sources of vitamins and minerals and are full of substances with antioxidant, anti-cancerous, and anti-microbial qualities. This spring at Davio’s, we are mixing up our favorite Italian Classic, Beef Bolognese, by replacing the meat with a hearty dose of Portobello, Oyster and Crimini Mushrooms! Not only does our meat-free variation taste amazing, but it’s also the perfect meal for anyone trying to take off those extra few pounds the winter always seems to add. 34
