“THE BEST AND STRONGEST THINGS IN LIFE COME IN SMALL PACKAGES…” On August 20th, Parkridge East Hospital added a life-changing piece of technology to their Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). As everyone knows, being a parent to a newborn is never easy and especially when the baby is placed in intensive care after delivery. Families across the U.S. struggle with the need to stay by their baby’s side after he or she is placed in the NICU. This can become difficult as work, family obligations, travel, and the need to rest makes it a struggle for families to continuously stay with their newborn. This is the key reason Parkridge East Hospital became the first hospital in the East Tennessee area to add “NICView Cameras” in their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The NICView Cameras are an innovative small camera system placed at designated bed spaces in the NICU and allows parents, family and friends to view their infant in real-time, 24/7, through

Christina Chadwick describes one experience where the parents of a newborn asked to surprise their family on the day the baby was released from the hospital. The parents called and asked the nurses to turn the camera off and place a piece of paper under the camera that says, “Surprise! I’m going home today!”. When other family members were unable to see the baby after logging-in, they quickly called the hospital and asked the nurse on duty to check the camera. Much to their surprise,
“The cameras have really been a blessing for the NICU”
the camera then noted the announcement of the baby’s departure from the NICU. This is a unique way parents, family members, and nurses like to utilize the cameras for the parent’s enjoyment. What else makes these cameras unique? Their bank-level security. Viewing of the baby’s intimate environment is protected by encrypted transmissions. Live streaming is only accessible to specific users using passwords issued by the NICU. No recordings are made and no images are stored. After the baby’s departure, the NICView cameras are discharged and never used again. This is helpful for parents to remain stress-free knowing the cameras are unable to get hacked and the video is never recorded or used again for any purposes. There are 22 NICView Cameras currently operational at Parkridge East Hospital. “FRESH-MEX” FOR EVERYONE!
Ta c o Mamacita ARTICLE MADISON FRAZIER
16
Chattanooga Lifestyle | January 2020
TACO MAMACITA In the heart of Chattanooga’s Northshore district is one of the area’s favorite restaurants, Taco Mamacita. Offering a family-friendly environment, Taco Mamacita takes pride in being a restaurant everyone will love and has loved for ten years. Their main goal is to ensure everyone who walks through the door finds the perfect menu item to fit their taste buds. Taco Mamacita’s staff takes pride in accommodating food allergies and dietary restrictions as well. What, may you ask, keeps people coming back for more? Is it the delicious entrees? The wide range of specialty drinks? The always-fresh ingredients and relaxed atmosphere? The answer – it’s all of these and so much more. And of these, perhaps none are more likely to “woo” people back and make them loyal patrons than the freshly made to order homemade guacamole. Beginning with a ripe organically grown avocado, the wizards in the kitchen add just the right amounts of jalapeno, tomato, onion, and cilantro to make the perfect chunky “guac” appetizer. Pair it with Taco Mamacita’s salty gluten-free chips and your taste buds are in for a real treat. Or maybe a cup of their piping hot Tortilla Soup is just what you need to warm up on these chilly days. Served “Hot Pot” style, one can choose the traditional recipe featuring chicken, cheese and homemade broth, or the Vegan version which excludes the chicken and cheese and uses a tomato-based broth. Now for the most important item – tacos! It’s no secret Taco Mamacita makes some of the best tacos in and around Chattanooga. Farm fresh ingredients and delicious meats make any taco on the menu a “perfect” choice. Their tacos are served “sandwich style” replacing your favorite sandwiches, such as The Po Boy BLT, California Club and Sloppy Jose, with a flour tortilla verses your typical slices of bread. For the person with special dietary needs, or those who prefer a more “healthy” option, Taco Mamacita offers a variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free taco selections such as The Avocado Taco, Freakin’ Vegan, Vegan Jerk, and Vegan Black Bean. Perhaps you’re more in the mood for an amazing homemade enchilada. The Gringo, Suizas, or Brisket Rancheros, consisting of two tortillas packed with farm fresh meat and topped with Taco Mamacita’s signature hot queso dip, are perfect for the meat lovers at your table. Love enchiladas but without the meat? No problem. Taco Mamacita also offers their mouthwatering Vegilladas packed with perfectly seasoned black beans, feta cheese, rice, and signature Suiza sauce. What also sets Taco Mamacita apart from many other restaurants is it’s staff. The Taco Mamacita motto is “legendary service”, where each employee strives to ensure every guest enjoys the best dining experience possible. For example, if it’s your first time to visit, you will get the “tour-de-mama” where your server will introduce you to menu items, give personal recommendations and mention the most popular dishes. “Not only do we strive for great food quality, but we also know part of the experience is great customer service. That is why we take pride in our staff being informed of the menu, and always putting our guests first”, Hannah Cecil, General Manager of Taco Mamacita, explains. The folks at Taco Mamacita understands a happy staff translates to happy guests. Operating Partner Heath Bowen puts it this way: “People love coming here because it looks like the staff is having a good time. The staff loves what they do and enjoys the environment where they work which spills over to tables and reflects amazing customer service.” This modern taqueria takes pride in “fresh-Mex” by serving your favorite Mexican dishes using their made-from-scratch ingredients to make your favorite comfort food. Taking pride in their quality food and quality service, Taco Mamacita is the perfect spot for you to kick back, relax and enjoy some outstanding appetizers and entrees. So, if you’re in the mood for a real treat, grab a friend or your family and head on over to Chattanooga’s most beloved “taco joint”. You won’t regret it!

ARTICLE SUE G. COLLINS PHOTOGRAPHY SUE G. COLLINS, KRISTY PETRILLO
“YOUR HOUSE IS GORGEOUS!” called a kayaker as she floated down the wide heavenly slice of the Toccoa River one warm Sunday. “Thank you!” I replied from my Adirondack chair perched on the sun-dappled riverbank lawn of the 8,000 square foot home, its expansive bank of windows reflecting the mellow holiday river scene. My husband smiled. Mostly because it wasn’t my house at all and I was acting like the queen. But also because he was so relaxed and happy, blissful in the lodge’s luxury (and in anticipation of binging his favorite Netflix series in the huge screening room). After a few days at Toccoa River Home, a pretty 2-hour drive from Chattanooga outside Blue Ridge, GA, we were all very comfortable in our new role as the lords and ladies of the estate. Maybe it was the resort-like heated pool outside or the full-size sports bar and movie theater inside. Or, perhaps

it was the deep leather sofas, soft easy chairs and plush beds we’d get lost in. Everything about the house, from its warm heart pine floors to the soaring 22-foot ceilings, contributed to our feeling of pampered well-being. With six fireplaces, nine bedrooms including a bunk room for 12, and 7 1/2 bathrooms, and a kitchen boasting a chef’s 36” range and walk-in butler’s pantry (with an additional stove and dishwasher) our only regret was we didn’t invite 30 of our favorite people to join us. Kristy Petrillo is the force behind Toccoa River Home. She is a 15-year resident of her beloved Blue Ridge, a top producing real estate agent and HGTV celeb — she’s been featured as an agent/home remodeler for several shows on the network. “I’ve been able to discover, purchase, and renovate a select number of luxurious rental cabins and lodges, using my expertise and insights to make each property supremely inviting and enjoyable,” says Kristy. “The Kristy Collection is the culmination of a career identifying what people love, and finding a way to connect them to it.” At this luxurious riverfront estate, with more than 400 feet of frontage on the lively Toccoa River (beautiful in any season), families celebrate their good fortunes, colleagues plan their next moves and friends gather to cook and eat together, play outside and make new memories.
