On March 13, 2020, COVID-19 was declared a national pandemic. Days, weeks and months have passed. Event organizers of the county fair have found themselves facing unprecedented times and the 2020 Williamson County Fair will not be the same as it has been the past 15 years. Due to the current pandemic, social distancing and guidelines related to large group

gatherings, the Board has faced the "pit in the bottom of my stomach" decision to not produce a live, on-the-grounds fair this year.

Board members have been wrestling with how to share the agriculture, livestock, creative and culinary arts, Little l's Farming, competitions, cultural

Though their porch doesn’t expand the length of the home, the couple made the most of their space. They kept the porch decor stylish and simple so it’s not cluttered or distracting.

Long rectangular windows make up the backdrop of the front porch. Blassey explains, “Because of the size of the windows and the entire glass door, you’re not only showcasing the outside of the home, but the inside.” It’s a unique and beautiful overlap. Blassey adds this won’t be a challenge for the couple as they always keep the house clean. Thoughtful details such as the porch’s recessed lighting and the slender silhouette sweetgum tree prevent blocking the windows.

The wood column is the most distinct aspect of the porch as it brings a sense of nature to an industrial setting. Since moving in, the couple has worked on the landscaping and added a horizontal slatted fence that shortens in front of the porch. The wood fence gracefully leads your eye all the way up to the porch column as it is the same stain. Its black hardware and lantern fence toppers match the home’s black trim.

1. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream, sugar and vanilla with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form in the mixture.

2. Start with a thin layer of whipped cream on the bottom of a springform pan (determine the size by how large or small you want your icebox cake to be). Then top with an even layer of chocolate (or your favorite kind of ice cream).

3. For the next layer, top with an even layer of cookie crumbles, cake crumbles, chocolate candies, crushed graham crackers or anything else you want to layer your cake with.

4. Continue with layers of whipped cream, ice cream and toppings until you have reached the top of your pan.

5. Refrigerate at least 4 hours, top with more cookie crumbles or chocolate sauce, slice and enjoy!

WHEN THE HEAT OF SUMMER MOVES INTO TENNESSEE IN FULL FORCE, KEEPING OUR HOMES COOL IS A TOP PRIORITY. You can have the best air conditioning system, but if your windows are not energy efficient, your house may still feel like a sauna.

Windows that are old, have seal failure (you’ll have fog and dirt buildup between the panes), or water leakage (you’ll see rot around the windows and windowsills), need to be replaced. Doing this will result in not only a cooler home, but lower electric bills as well.

Rick Schuman, a sales representative for Pella windows for over 15 years, and Paul Atwood, a trade representative for Pella, provide some helpful advice about replacing your home’s windows.

Look online for a professional window installer that only handles windows. If you go to Pella.com and put in your zip code, you can easily schedule an appointment with a representative.

A 5/8 thick triple pane with low E (emissivity) will reflect the sun rays while still allowing in visible light. There’s a balancing act because you want energy efficient windows, but still want the sunlight that comes through to look natural and maintain the true colors on the walls. Also, look for an energy label of .30 or less.

The lead time is 4 to 6 weeks, so don’t wait too long to get started. For an average size house, allow three to five days for installation. Once they’re in, have a salesperson come back out and walk around the house to make sure everything looks fine.
