RUNNING Running is a great way to improve fitness. It is more challenging than walking and has many benefits including: strengthening bones and muscles, improving cardiovascular fitness, and helps maintain a healthy weight. A great way to start running is to set small goals for yourself. For example, start off with two minutes of light jogging then start to slowly add a minute as it starts to become easier.

WALKING
02.
Walking is also a great way to get active and improve fitness. Walking has many benefits such as reducing risk of heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure etc. A great way to start walking is to get out and explore. Find a trail, neighborhood, or park and start walking!
03.
PERSONAL TRAINING Personal training is fantastic for improving fitness. Personal training has many of the same benefits as walking or running and with added benefits such as guidance and coaching to help keep you safe, fun and exciting workouts, and a great community to make new friends. To get started with a personal trainer look for personal training services such as GYMGUYZ Williamsburg who are all certified personal trainers or go to your local gym, many gyms also offer personal training or group training.

After I finish my undergraduate degree, I want to get an MBA and work at my own start-up companies. WHAT SPARKED YOUR INTEREST IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTER? I think the process of bringing an idea from fiction to form is one of the best feelings in the world. Since grade school, I have been interested in product design and start-up culture. With the resources and time available at William & Mary I hope to finally act on my ideas and build companies around them. My friend on the College ultimate frisbee team mentioned his involvement in the Entrepreneurship Center’s weekly Rocket Pitch competitions. Also, I am part of a consulting group on campus called Tribe Innovation. Many of the older members attend the business school and recommended the Entrepreneurship Center as a good resource to help stimulate innovation. DESCRIBE LIGHTFOOT AND TELL US WHERE THE IDEA CAME FROM. Lightfoot is a shoe cleaning product that uses ultraviolet germicidal irradiation to kill pungent bacteria in shoes. This idea came from a conversation with my dad about hospitals using UV-C light to kill COVID-19. I thought that if it were so effective at killing viruses and bacteria it could easily eliminate shoe odor. WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS IN DEVELOPING LIGHTFOOT? I am going to start making prototypes as quickly as possible. With the William & Mary chemistry department I hope to optimize the bacteria-killing process. Then, using my findings, I hope to finalize a product that will save consumers time and money. For more details and to support, contact Bjorn at bbshockey@ email.wm.edu.

DISCIPLINE. Resilience. Dedication. Excellence. These are the qualities the newest coaches at the Dreams Gymnastics Center seek to instill in every child they train. In a world where the tempo of life demands immediate results, Georgi and Sylvia Videnov devote countless hours patiently coaching, mentoring, and training youth to become not only excellent gymnasts but also outstanding young men and women. “Coaching to us is more than a job where we go to work. Coaching gymnastics is a way of life for us, we have a heart for leading, teaching, and coaching kids. We love kids, we love the process – to build up a child – and we are devoted to kids,” say the Videnovs. The couples’ pedigree and tradition of excellence speaks louder than words. Georgi and Sylvia met at the Vassil Levski National Sports Academy, in Sofia, Bulgaria where they both earned their master’s degrees from the Academy in 1991 and 2004, respectively. GIVEN THE CLOSE QUARTERS MANY OF US HAVE MAINTAINED IN RECENT MONTHS THE CONCEPT OF LEAVING THE KIDS BEHIND FOR A WEEKEND ESCAPE SOUNDS BLISSFUL. Departing one largely tourist-driven location for another captivating destination could get tricky, so we took the guesswork out of things. Wilmington, North Carolina is less than a five-hour drive from Williamsburg and packed with plenty for two. The first stop is at home base. For this trip, The Hive Wilmington serves as your “hive away from home.” This unique and artfully designed destination offers a fivesense experience for each of their fourteen rooms on property. Drop the bags, refuel, and head over to the local Satellite Bar and Lounge for a cocktail after the journey. Wake up to a delicious craft coffee and bite to eat at Bespoke Coffee and Dry Goods before getting sized for a surfboard or paddle board at Savage Surfboards and a morning riding surf at Crystal Pier in Wrightsville Beach. After a couple hours of carving waves, Poe’s Tavern will have just the right eats to curb the most ravenous appetite. Their Tell-Tale burgers and appetizers are sure to hold you over for a walk through Airlie Gardens’ famous August Art Exhibit or the famous Wilmywood region of town. Either choice would make for some fun photos to share with the family once you get back home. Pop into Old Books on Front Street to peruse a few treasures to bring home just before grabbing dinner. A trip to the beach would almost be a waste without sampling local seafood. Enjoy surf or turf, with just the right amount of class, at the award-winning Cape Fear Seafood Company. A relaxing sandy sunset stroll along the beach would bookend an excellent trip before retiring for the evening.

Williamsburg Lifestyle | August 2020
TORTILLA
ESPANOLA A BELOVED SPANISH CLASSIC TORTILLA ESPAÑOLA, OR POTATO OMELET, IS A SOUL SATISFYING TAPA. The comforting flavor of this classic Spanish dish is popular across Spain and served at almost every restaurant and café. We think it is the perfect centerpiece for brunch. Add a side of seasonal fruit and a pitcher of Bloody Mary’s!
INGREDIENTS + 7-8 Yukon Gold potatoes + 9 eggs + 4 Tbs Spanish Olive Oil + Spanish sea salt + Cracked black pepper + 2 Spanish onions, diced + Sliced Chorizo and Piquillo Peppers (optional)
DIRECTIONS Thinly slice peeled potatoes (about 1/8”), place in a pot of cold water with the salt. Boil for five minutes. Do not overcook. Drain and rinse cooked potatoes in cold water. Sauté onions until translucent. Add chorizo to onions (optional). Cook for 3-4 minutes and remove from heat. In a bowl, beat eggs, add salt and pepper to taste. Add sautéed onion to egg mixture. Add potatoes. Fully coat potatoes with mixture; do not break potatoes. Add Piquillo peppers (optional). Heat the tortilla pan on medium, add olive oil. Pour potato and egg mixture into the pan, cook on low 6-7 minutes. While this is cooking on low heat, heat the other side of tortilla pan on medium with a tablespoon of olive oil. Then pour the tablespoon of olive oil onto the tortilla, connect the pan, close it, and flip it. Cook another 6-7 minutes until eggs are set and the tortilla turns a light golden color. Remove from heat. Serve warm alongside a green salad and La Chinata Aioli Sauce.

+HANDCRAFTED+
FUN PAPER CRAFT ACTIVITY FOR YOU + YOUR KIDDO ARTICLE NICOLETTE MARTIN
M AT E R I A L S + Cardboard + White crepe paper + Construction paper + Glue + Scissors + Beads, yarn, pom poms, etc.
DIRECTIONS 1. Take your cardboard and cut two pieces into the shape of a llama (we found a stencil online). Then, cut strips of cardboard the depth you want your llama to be. You’ll connect these to either side of the llama cutouts to enclose your piñata. 2. Glue your strip of cardboard all along the edge of one side of your llama, then glue to the other side. (Be sure to leave a hole you can close up later so you can fill it with your favorite candy!)
PIÑLLAMA
3. Starting at the neck, cover the front, back and sides of your llama with white crepe paper, cutting a slit every half inch or so to create the traditional piñata look. 4. Cover all remaining sides the neck and head with white construction paper, cut to fit your design. 5. Using construction paper, beads, pom poms, tassels, buttons, etc., add some flair to the rest of your llama! Bonus points for incorporating different shapes and textures into your final product.
