RENOVATE & REFINE ADD SUMMER CHEER TO THE FRONT OF YOUR HOME!

FRONT PORCH SUNSHINE ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY STACEY COLLINS

SUMMER IS THE PERFECT TIME TO ADD A LITTLE CHEER AND SUNSHINE TO YOUR FRONT PORCH! It doesn’t take much to make a statement and I’ve got some tips that will make it easy to give your own porch a quick refresh! Lemons are huge right now and are a great way to add a pop of color that just screams Summer! I combined mine with black, white, and aqua for a fun combination. Start off by picking a focal point for your door that will really be the star of the show! For me, I used a door hanger and layered it over a wreath. Next, I always recommend the look of layered rugs by the door. Pick something a little bigger for the bottom and a smaller one on top. This will add instant interest and dimension! I love using my chairs on either side with adorable cushions and pillows on them. You’ll have a place to sit and it will look cute too! Of course, flowers are a MUST when you are doing a porch for Summer. I went with yellow flowers in little galvanized pots to tie in with all of my lemons. Last but not least, an adorable porch board sign is never a bad idea! This completed the look of my Summer front porch makeover and tied it all together. I always say that it doesn’t have to be complicated to be cute, and it really is so true! Decorating is a true passion of mine, and I love that you can make your home a reflection of you and your style by simply making it your own. I hope you’ve been inspired to give your porch a little refresh this Summer and that you can use these tips to help you along the way. Happy Summer and Happy Decorating!

summer bucket list BEAT THE HEAT THIS SUMMER WITH A LIST OF IDEAS TO STAY COOL ARTICLE GABRIELLE GROOTERS HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU HEARD, MOM I’M BORED, WHAT CAN I DO? Parents across America fear that dreaded question. We are here to give you all the ammunition you need to combat those Summer boredom woes. We’ve interviewed kids around the community to reveal our Top Summer Bucket List for an epic summer. This list is kid-tested, and we think parents will approve! Teens, we have some activities we think you’ll like too. Keep reading to check it out.

1. summer bucket list craft Our friends at Primrose School in Spring Hill created a fabulous summer bucket list craft that will keep all of your summer bucket list ideas at your fingertips. Supplies: + Small bucket + Popsicle sticks + Marker Instructions + Use a marker to write a different activity on each popsicle stick. Help your child brainstorm activities you can do together this summer. A few ideas include flying a kite, building a fort, going on a walk at the park, and having an outdoor tea party. + When your popsicle sticks are done, place them into the bucket. + Whenever you and your little one are feeling adventurous this summer, choose a stick Photo by Primrose Schools

and enjoy the suggested activity! By Primrose Schools

2. go jump in the lake… or any water! Summers in TN are hot; we’ve got the perfect way to cool off! Go jump in the lake, pool, run through your sprinkler, or get drenched with a slip in slide. Cool, refreshing water is the best way to stay chill during the dog days of summer!

3. water balloon fight A little healthy competition always breaks up the monotony of summer! Divide friends up into two teams. Assign them each a home base with a bucket full of water balloons. Load up and…attack! Who’s the winner? Whoever has the most fun! Who needs a pool when you can have plenty of summer fun with a water balloon fight!

4. watch a movie at a drive-in theater The Drive-In has been a Hot Spot on everyone’s list lately. With COVID-19 restrictions, this is the perfect solution for a family night on the town, or shall I say, in your car. We recommend Hi-Way 50 Drive-In, Lewisburg, TN, or the Stardust Theatre in Watertown, TN. Want to stay closer to home? Create your own outdoor movie scene with a white sheet or outdoor screen, projector, DVD player, and speakers – you’ll have everything you need to catch a movie under the stars. Don’t forget the popcorn and sweet treats!

5. go camping! Go Camping or if you prefer a more glamorous experience, make it Glamping! If driving far away to find the perfect outdoor camping scene seems overwhelming, bring the fun to your backyard with a camping /glamping adventure! Make s’mores, share a fun craft, and tell campfire stories by flashlight in the comfort of your backyard. If it gets too hot, you’ll have the comfort of your bed just a few feet away!

6. paint a picture! Grab your brushes and paint; it’s time to design your very own masterpiece. Creating art when the summer weather isn’t cooperating can be a fun way to unleash your creativity and test your artistic abilities.

7. take a hike or nature walk! There is something special about being outdoors and taking the space and time to appreciate all that nature has to offer. From birds chirping to leaves rustling in the wind, the sights and sounds of nature bring a calm and peace to appreciate the simple things in life. We have so many parks in the Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station area to experience. Port Royal Park, Thompson’s Station Park, Harvey Park, and Preservation Park, to name a few. Go on a nature walk and bring your binoculars to go bird watching and see what other creatures you can find in their natural habitat

8. bake up some summer treats and celebrate a picnic lunch together Planning a picnic is almost as fun as enjoying one. Sit down with your children the day before and plan out what you want to have on your picnic lunch. Take your kiddos to the grocery store and allow them to select all of the items you’ll need. Ensure that one thing is something you can bake up and possibly decorate together like sugar cookies or a yummy cake. Once everything is prepared, pack it up and select the perfect shaded spot to enjoy a picnic at the park or backyard! Allowing your kiddos to enjoy the process from beginning to end will make your picnic all the more memorable!

14

Spring Hill Style | July 2020

9. go fishing If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxed feeling, enjoy a day of fishing. Whether your goal is to catch and release or spend time in nature, fishing is one way to create great memories and meaningful conversation.

10. night games – parents, this is for you! Remember those nostalgic summer nights when you and all your friends used to run around the neighborhood playing hide-and-seek, capture the flag, ghost in the graveyard, and kickball? Who says kids get all the fun; no rule says adults can’t play too! Round up some of your friends, head to a nearby park, and create your Summer Fun! Bring flashlights and light-up sticks for safety and added giggles!

11. document your summer fun and join our instagram contest. There is nothing better than documenting your summer as it rolls by. Photographs allow you to capture family memories and offer great reminders of the adventures you experienced all summer long. CHECK OUT THE DETAILS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR INSTAGRAM CONTEST AND SCORE SOME FREE GIFTS! 1. Follow us on Instagram: @springhillstylemagazine 2. Tag us in a photo capturing your moment of Summer Fun. 3. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #springhillstylesummer for your chance to win one of these great prizes. + $25 Gift Card to Beach Company Chill + Gift Card to Drive-In Theatre + Summer Fun Bundle to help you beat the heat! Each contestant will be put in a drawing. Winners will be randomly selected on August 1, 2020! We can’t wait to see who wins #springhillstylesummer
