From our deck which faces a 90-acre conservancy, I watched a pair of pileated woodpeckers, prehistoric looking birds, work on a long-gone hollow tree trunk with their bright red plume bobbing against the blue summer sky.

Now, as families get back into the groove of school, sports, extracurriculars, work and traffic, we need to keep that carefree feeling alive. I bought some slide-in screens for the windows in our old house that were odd sized so I can feel any whiff of a breeze. I’ll keep a pitcher of lemonade in the refrigerator and invite my neighbors to come sit on the porch awhile.

I will keep this magazine’s calendar pages open to remind of the concerts, festivals and farmers markets happening every weekend.

Exposed areas such as your face, arms, hands, neck and feet will be examined. The screening is open to all adults, 18 years old and older. Recommended screening attire includes shorts and a t-shirt. Qualified interpreters will be available free of charge, with advanced requests. As with other cancers, early detection is important. Working from her home in south Buckhead, Lisa has been creating a purposeful line of earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets that have meaning to her and to those who shop her line.

“I make my jewelry because of the experiences I have had. People connect with the symbolism of my pieces because of the experiences they have had,” says Stein of her Rebel, Stargazer and Gamechanger lines.

Through a series of traumatic events that lead to the death of her husband, Lisa struggled, but found great strength in her craft. Many of her designs are symbolic of the loss, rebuilding and inspirational experiences she has had along the way.

The Compass, made with white, yellow or rose gold and pave diamonds, represents the search for luck, success, wisdom and guidance. The Stella Star is a reminder that you’re heading in the right direction, your true North Star, and the Hamsa Protection amulet symbolizes the hand of God of all faiths, and hope and peace in today’s world. CALLING ALL NORTHSIDE YOUTH ORGANIZATION (NYO) PLAYER ALUMNI AND CURRENT AND FORMER PARENTS, COACHES, VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTERS. On October 6, NYO is hosting a very special event to commemorate 70 years of youth sports at Chastain Park fostering the growth and development of young athletes as part of the North Atlanta community.

Beginning with football in 1949, and along the way adding baseball, girls and boys basketball, softball and cheerleading, NYO has grown to become one of the largest intra-league youth sports programs in the country. They serve nearly 2,500 area families and 5,000 children ages 4 to 17 register annually. As a dedicated community partner and longtime lessee of the City of Atlanta, NYO maintains high quality playing fields and a gym at Chastain as well as at numerous facilities at local partner schools and churches. To promote an inclusive environment, NYO offers multiple ways for the community’s youth to play on a team, including a needs-based scholarship program and the Christopher League for children with disabilities.
