For 12 straight years, we’ve also been recognized as one of the best by U.S. News & World Report. This year, we’re ranked #4 overall and in the top five in seven specialties—including #1 in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery. MOTHER-DAUGHTER DUO DESIGN, SELL LUXURY BRIDAL GOWNS WHEN KAITLYN SANICHAR’S MOM FIRST ASKED HER TO DESIGN A WEDDING GOWN, KAITLYN QUICKLY SAID YES. She was only 11 years old when she sketched out her first design. It was a fluffy ball gown with a sweetheart neckline, hidden pockets and a row of tidy white buttons down the entire backside. “My mom loves everything bridal,” says Kaitlyn. “She knew what she wanted the dresses to look like but just couldn’t design it, so that’s when I started to help her out.” 10

Cypress Lifestyle | September 2020

Kaitlyn — a self-described creative perfectionist — loved to draw and watch bridal shows for fresh inspiration. At first, her designs were just a hobby, but pretty soon she asked her mom to go a step further. “She said, ‘Why don’t you just open your own shop?’” says Nadira Sanichar, Kaitlyn’s mom. Soon after, in 2017, Nadira launched Kaitlyns Bridal out of the family’s remodeled upstairs game room. Nadira contracted manufacturers to bring Kaitlyn’s sketches to life but also ordered styles of her own choosing from new designers. Then, earlier this year, the two re-opened their showroom in a new business park at the corner of Queenston and Barker Cypress. It was a dream come true for the mother-daughter duo who’d invested so much care into every detail of their boutique. Nowadays, Nadira runs the day-to-day operations, booking brides and reordering inventory. Kaitlyn, now a 13-year-old honor roll student, spends less time designing, but helps around the shop from time to time. Kaitlyns Bridal carries every style of luxury wedding gown from stately ball gowns with cathedral-length trains, to revealing mermaid-styles fit for a beach wedding. Brides can even customize their own wedding dress by mixing and matching elements of separate gowns. Sleeves can be added, skirts detached or lavish embellishments sewn to suit any bride’s personality. “Once it comes to life, you’re not going to see this specific one in other stores because it was done for our store only,” Nadira says. The shop also offers unique jewelry and bridal accessories such as flower girl baskets, ring-bearer pillows and corsages. Nadira is constantly on the lookout for new styles to add to the collection and updates inventory every three months. Her goal is for brides to find a dress that fits their personality and budget. At the same time, she takes extra care to give each of her brides one-on-one attention during each fitting. Brides are given complete access to the entire showroom during their visit and can order special alterations in the shop. In many ways, working with brides has been a part of Nadira’s life since childhood. She grew up in Guyana where her home was often used for elaborate family weddings. Nadira would help brides dress and tend to them throughout their big day. As an adult, she coordinated her sister’s wedding and weddings for two cousins. When it came time for her own wedding, however, it was a disastrous experience. She felt forced into choosing her wedding dress and didn’t enjoy the style. “I think that’s what really wanted to make me do this so much more,” she said. “I didn’t want anyone to have that experience.” KaitlynsBridal.com 917-324-4545 12258 Suite C Queenston Boulevard Houston Texas 77095

ESCAPE THE SUMMER DOLDRUMS WITH A ROMANTIC JOURNEY TO AN ALLURING TEXAS HILL COUNTRY BED AND BREAKFAST. Once the site of an old mill, the Creekhaven Inn sits on the edge of Cypress Creek in Wimberley, a scenic Hill Country playground between San Antonio and Austin. The romantic lodge is nestled in a picturesque property thick with gnarly cypress, sycamore and pecan trees. Guests can meander along its private creekside, watch birds and native deer or rest easy beneath Creekhaven’s eclectic greenhouse patio. “The energy is indescribable, but definitely palatable,” says Helena Hauk, who owns Creekhaven Inn along with her husband, Don Huak. The couple purchased the bed and breakfast just two years ago, upgrading facilities and adding their own twist to the property’s nearly 100-year-old history. Creekhaven’s natural beauty, set atop the rocky Edwards Plateau, is a stark contrast to Cypress’ grassy, urban terrain. Summers are less humid and its distance from sprawling cities make for quiet, relaxing evenings. The shade from Creekhaven’s ancient trees and its proximity to the creek, keeps the property even cooler than nearby Wimberley.

TREND SETTER FASHIONISTA JESSICA BRIDGES’ FIRST FORAY INTO ENTREPRENEURSHIP STARTED YOUNG. On her sixteenth birthday she was out looking for a job so she could buy her own shoes and stylish threads. Soon after, Jessica worked her way through college and earned a fashion merchandising degree. Jessica eventually left the industry to raise a family, but her love of fashion never faded. After a few years out of the fashion industry, she missed the chaos, the creativity and the clothes. To create a tasty board full of adventurous textures, be sure to incorporate a variety of sweet, salty, crunchy, and soft foods, says Chef Jennifer Burnett, of JBistro Style Chef Services. Chef Jennifer curated this month’s featured charcuterie board and offers helpful tips for those looking to create their own spread. Her board incorporates fresh raspberries, a jelly dip, soft cheese, crackers, pesto, prosciutto, merlot cheese and fresh greens for a creative flair. “Accessorizing the board is key,” she says. “Create ‘stations’ for each pairing by using a beautiful fig leaf or something similarly beautiful.” Other tasty options include adding a handful of tangy pomegranate seeds or Spanish Marcona almonds roasted in olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. Chef Jennifer also suggests including at least one homemade item - such as parmesan chips instead of storebought crackers - to make a board uniquely yours. Her best culinary advice? Be willing to adapt and learn.

+ Pepperoncinis The word ‘pepperoncini’ is the generic Italian name for ‘hot pepper.’ Contrary to its name, pepperoncinis are sweet and mild peppers.

“Knowing how to cook is only a small portion in choosing this as a career,” Chef Jennifer says. “Having heart is the main ingredient.” Chef Jennifer’s delectable creations are available for order and delivery. JBistroStyle.com 832-655-6698 17527 A Huffmeister Rd. Cypress, Texas

By taking care of your corneas, you can extend the health of your eyesight and reduce vision loss with age. An easy way to remember what to eat for healthy eyes is to look for orange foods. Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and butternut squash are all high in vitamin A.

H E A LT H Y SKIN Did you know that vitamin A is also imperative for skin health? So while you’re caring for your corneas, you’re also boosting your outer glow. If you want to kick it up a notch, be intentional about eating plenty of foods with omega-3 fatty acids to reduce acne and inflammation and help your skin produce its own collagen. For your healthy fats, go for flax seed, walnuts, chia seeds, and fish.

For soft, flowing tresses, make sure you’re getting an equal amount of B vitamins in your diet. We naturally get plenty of B-6 because it’s in most grains, but it’s easier to end up with a biotin or B-12 deficiency if you don’t pay attention. Focus on foods like salmon, eggs, spinach, and broccoli for a healthy balance of B vitamins for your hair.
