Building an ALL IN Culture
There's something special about telling the stories of people in our community doing amazing things. Last month, we featured the lives and work of exceptional women who are making things happen with courage and ingenuity, and this month we are privileged to introduce to you some interesting men who bring their talents and leadership to better the lives of those around them.
In this issue, we highlight Highlands Ranch High School's principal of eight years, Dr. Christopher Page. Dr. Page was named the 2023 Colorado High School Principal of the Year by the Colorado Association of School Executives. The Colorado Springs native has been part of the Douglas County Schools for nearly 20 years, serving as coach, teacher, dean, assistant principal and activities director before becoming principal in 2015.
In case you don't know, it's "THE" Highlands Ranch High School, according to Dr. Page. That pride in community also shows up in the "All In" culture he has promoted these past eight years. He strives to create a community in which staff, teachers, students and families show up for each other, support each other, and in turn feel supported. All in, all the time.
Dr. Page's dynamic leadership is just one example of the great stories being lived out in Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree each day. We strive to bring you their stories here every month because we are firm believers that storytelling builds a powerful community. Learning more about the lives of those around you builds empathy, connection and, we hope, a kindness that is so desperately needed in the world right now.
We hope our stories inspire you to be ALL IN with your family, your neighborhood, your faith community and your town.
See you around town!

MOTORCYCLE
ADVENTURE RIDING
ARTICLE BY ELIZABETH WATSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY JAMEY MARTIN
Longtime friends Jamey Martin and Trevor Morton had both owned motorcycles for a few years when they decided the best way to make sure their bikes didn’t just sit in storage would be committing to absolutely, no matter what, making the time to plan and take one group backcountry trip every year.
Since all official organizations require a proper name, and the title “grown men riding motorcycles into the backcountry and occasionally making very poor choices” wouldn’t fit on a sticker, the group decided on the title Adventure Idiots.
Every year since 2015, the Adventure Idiots have gotten together for backcountry
motorcycle trips lasting seven to 12 days and covering anywhere from 700 to 1,100 miles.
“I think of tour riding as being on pavement, staying in hotels, riding something like a Harley or a Gold Wing. Adventure riding involves getting off the pavement as much as possible. Backcountry routes, dirt trails, water crossings, and camping,” Martin says.
Martin rides a 2004 BMW 1150GS. The tires, suspension, and crash bars on adventure bikes are designed to handle sometimes extreme backcountry conditions.
“I’ve never been on a trip where I haven’t eaten it at least once or twice. We never

want to be reckless, but sometimes you catch a rut, or there’s a river or creek crossing and you hit a rock you can’t see. That’s just part of it,” Martin says.
Some companies, like Lone Tree’s Colorado Motorcycle Adventures, provide guided tours. For riders who like to do their own research and planning, a great resource is Backcountry Discovery Routes. RideBDR.com provides free GPS tracks, information, and planning tools for 12 established BDR routes.
“The planning is fun, but I think the best part is getting to camp at the end of a long day,” Martin says. “Knowing you just put in some miles through beautiful country and then getting to make camp with a group of your closest friends, build a fire, have a drink, relax. That’s adventure riding.”

2023 MEN OF INFLUENCE
At the end of his first year as principal of Highlands Ranch High School eight years ago, a teacher approached Dr. Christopher Page and asked what they could do to create better connections between teachers and students.
That’s what gave Dr. Page the idea for his “All In” vision. “I went into our last assembly of the year and we talked about being all in. We said that the idea of being all in is that we’re all in for each other all the time,” Dr. Page said.
And ever since, he’s been focused on creating a culture where staff, teachers, students and families are committed to being part of an engaged and supportive community.

ALL IN - Students Taking Pride In Their School and Supporting Their Classmates
DR. CHRISTOPHER PAGE
PRINCIPAL, HIGHLANDS RANCH HIGH SCHOOL
For the past eight years, Dr. Page has served as the principal of Highlands Ranch High School. He’s a statistical anomaly because he was also a student teacher at Highlands Ranch High School. The odds of a person being a student teacher and then principal at the same school in an urban area are approximately one in a billion.
Dr. Page’s stats are also impressive with his recent selection as the 2023 Colorado High School Principal of the Year. According to the Colorado Department of Education, there are 522 high schools in the state of Colorado.
Dr. Page was awarded this honor by the National Association of Secondary School Principal Selection Committee through a competitive process.
Erin Kane, Douglas County School District Superintendent, says, “The culture at ‘THE Highlands Ranch High School,’ as Dr. Page calls it, is a true family environment. He is incredibly committed to his students, staff, and families, and is someone we can count on, from the district level, to lend his voice to make our amazing school district an even better place to work and learn.”
One of Dr. Page’s contributions to the district is that he co-founded and chaired the first Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility Committee for Douglas County Schools. The committee focused on increasing equitable practices and training, diversity in thoughts and actions, and inclusion and accessibility for all learners. The resulting policy represents input and involvement from over 3,000 stakeholders across the Douglas County School District.
When discussing his recent award, Dr. Page says, “When I found out I was selected for High School Principal of the Year, I had an overwhelming joy in my heart. I am so proud to be the principal of Highlands Ranch High School, and this recognition is an acknowledgment of all the amazing accomplishments our students, staff, and community have been able to achieve over the years.”

DR. ISAAC CHUNG
ORTHODONTIST, I-ORTHODONTICS
When asked about his role at i-Orthodontics Dr. Isaac says, “As a board-certified orthodontist, I specialize in providing custom, high-quality orthodontic treatments for pediatric, adolescent and adult patients with the use of braces and Invisalign.”
He continues, “My role in the practice is also to make sure patients have fun every step of the way of their smile journey. Smiles and laughter are what drive us at i-Orthodontics.” That may be why i-Orthodontics trademarked motto is Live Life Smiling.
According to Dr. Isaac, i-Orthodontics was established with a greater mission than straightening teeth. They were built to change lives. The practice was established in 2008 with a mission to build self-esteem, create impact, and to serve the community through philanthropy.
As the youngest of eleven children, Dr. Isaac received a lot of guidance from his older siblings. But according to him, “It was my parents, though, who instilled in me the value of hard work and determination. My parents also taught us to live a life of gratitude.”
Dr. Isaac probably needed to draw on that determination when he succeeded in completing the 118-mile Triple Bypass Bicycle Ride. It was his first cycling race and the first time he had ridden over 100 miles.

RYAN CANADAY
PASTOR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, FREE SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY
Canaday lives in Highlands Ranch and is the pastor of FREE Spiritual Community located in Denver.
FREE is a spiritual community designed for addicts, loved ones of addicts, and spiritual refugees.
“Tami, my wife, and I started FREE Spiritual Community in our backyard in the summer of 2018,” says Canaday. That same year Canaday had officiated at six funerals that were drug and/or alcohol related.
“My recovery has taught me not to waste the pain. So I began allowing the pain to be the fuel for starting a movement. FREE has continued to grow. We moved from our backyard into an actual building, and I have been serving as pastor and executive director of FREE for the past five years.”
The recovery he mentions started when he got sober in January 2013. At the time, he was serving as a pastor at a local church. “Early on I hoped no one would find out. I was filled with so much shame. I was the drunk pastor. But a few years into my recovery, I began sharing my story openly, honestly, and publicly. Others in the community began reaching out, sharing their struggles with addiction. It became clear to me how big the problem of addiction was in the community.”
FREE’s mission is to break the silence of addiction while creating space for healing, recovery, and spiritual connection. “We gather together as a community every Saturday evening at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. We celebrate breakthroughs in life, there’s always a message of hope, and a guest storyteller who shares their experience. FREE hosts numerous 12-step meetings and other recovery meetings every day of the week.”
As the pastor and executive director at FREE, Canaday gets to remind people who they are. That you are always worthy of love and belonging. God loves you simply because you are.

EMMANUEL ELIASON
PRESIDENT AND CEO, ELIASON WEALTH MANAGEMENT
Eliason Wealth Management is a registered investment advisory firm in Centennial. Eliason describes the company by saying, “We are passionate about financial literacy for the masses and bridging the wealth gap in America while helping individuals, families and small businesses create, preserve and transfer their wealth.”
Growing up in a modest background, Eliason was inspired to understand how the financial systems and other factors caused some people to be wealthy and others not so much. Coupled with a gift and passion for education, coaching and training, Eliason found a natural fit to provide professional services for financial education, wealth creation and wealth transfer.
“As a Certified Financial Planner professional, I serve as the firm’s lead financial planner and investment advisor. I oversee our firm’s community financial education outreach programs where we provide free financial literacy classes on various topics like retirement planning, social security, tax planning, investment management and more,” he says.
An important aspect of the firm is community involvement. “We regularly give back to our community through free financial education at local churches and nonprofit organizations for African-Americans, African immigrants and other minorities who are underserved.”
Outside of work Eliason’s priorities include, “Having family time with my wife and children playing a board game called Ludo or watching Shark Tank.”

DR. KEVIN O’DONNELL, DO BREAKTHROUGH REGENERATIVE ORTHOPEDICS
“After spending 12 years as a Primary Care Sports Physician in an orthopedic clinic, I became increasingly dissatisfied with the limited non-surgical treatment options available for common conditions such as rotator cuff tears. However, in 2008, I was introduced to the field of Regenerative Orthopedics which has been a game changer for me and my patients,” says Dr. O’Donnell.
Dr. O’Donnell says that he is now able to offer cutting-edge bio-restorative care that can often spare patients from undergoing surgery. “I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting field. Since learning these new skills and treatments, I have never looked back.”
Breakthrough Regenerative Orthopedics is located in Centennial. They strive to “get you back to your best self.” Their core values of integrity, compassionate care, and excellence guide them in treating their patients how they would want their own family to be treated. In addition to regenerative procedures, Breakthrough Regenerative Orthopedics provides recommendations for supplements and collaborates with trusted providers across the spectrum of physical therapy, orthotics, and bodywork to support the healing process.
“As a physician in the field of regenerative medicine, I am part of an exciting and rapidly advancing area that focuses on promoting tissue regeneration and harnessing the body’s natural healing processes. Unlike traditional surgery, we prioritize non-invasive techniques and consider cutting to be a last resort,” says Dr. O’Donnell.
When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with family and finding the best tastes of his hometown. “Being from Pennsylvania, I have a particular fondness for Philadelphia hoagies and cheesesteaks, and Taste of Philly in Highlands Ranch provides a close resemblance to what I would typically enjoy back home.” And when Dr. O’Donnell isn’t “adulting” at work, he is busy wrangling his three little minions. Cole 10, Ryan 8 and Jack 4.

DAVID SIMONSON
BOARD OF DIRECTORS, TREASURER, HIGHLANDS RANCH METRO DISTRICT
Simonson decided to run for the board of the Highlands Ranch Metro District because he believes, “Servant leadership is crucial to continual improvement for our local, county, state, and even national communities.”
According to Simonson, the varied services provided by the Highlands Ranch Metro District includes a range of municipal-type services such as construction of infrastructure including arterial roadways, storm drainage facilities, traffic signals, and fire stations, installation and maintenance of parkway landscaping adjacent to arterial roadways, construction and maintenance of parks and trails, maintenance and operation of the historic mansion, outdoor recreation and programs for all ages, maintenance of open space and community events.
Board members serve the community in a variety of ways. Some of the more critical responsibilities identified by Simonson include setting priorities for programs and services, approving expenditures, and establishing fees and property tax rates.
One of his favorite non-work day activities is visiting his daughters at their respective colleges whenever he possibly can.
“My other favorite activity began because of my wife’s development of the South Denver Food and South Denver Strong groups on Facebook in our community. They have given us ample opportunity to explore a variety of different events and restaurants that we otherwise might not ever be aware of.”

THE TEAM AT SHOWPLACE CABINETRY DESIGNS TIMELESS KITCHENS THAT OUTLAST FLEETING TRENDS
When it comes to kitchen design, Jann Levinsky doesn’t think much of the word “trend.” An architect by training, Jann is the manager of Showplace Cabinetry Design Center. She and her design team—Jennie Claus, Lisa Parkinson and Karen Zirkle—help homeowners design classic, timeless kitchens that won’t need another remodel for decades.
With sky-high home prices and increasing interest rates, Jann’s team is pretty busy these days. “We have a lot of clients lately who have shopped around to buy a new home only to discover it makes more sense to remodel their existing home,” Jann says. “And I say, if you like your neighborhood and you like your neighbors, stay put and remodel, because you’re only increasing the value of your house.”
Renovating a kitchen can be a complicated and expensive investment, but Jann and her team are the experts who will guide overwhelmed homeowners through every step of the process—and that process starts with a visit to the Parker showroom, located at The Crossings at Stonegate on Lincoln Avenue. Filled with stunning kitchen vignettes, consumers are bound to see something that fits their new-kitchen vision.
For those who really don’t know where to start, Jann offers this tip: “Get on Houzz and Pinterest. If there’s even just one element in that picture—a fixture, a tile, a color—print it and circle it so I know what you like and where your tastes are.”
But don’t worry (or consider yourself warned): Jann will not allow you to wander down the wrong path. “I don’t do trends. The kitchen has to reflect the architecture of the house. I’m not going to take a craftsman house and throw in a very contemporary kitchen or bathroom. It just makes no sense.”
And if you think you can’t afford a professional kitchen designer, think again—what seems like an added expense will pay for itself with a smooth renovation process and years of enjoyment without regrets. So go ahead and take the first step—make an appointment with a kitchen designer.

White cabinetry is classic for a reason—because it always works. These Edgewater 275 cabinets from Showplace are painted a soft cream with a walnut brushing in a matte finish.
2 | SHOWCASE YOUR STYLE
Including a few glass-front doors makes space for showing off your prettiest dishes and glassware. The seedy glass panels in these doors add a vintage touch.
Why settle for one color of cabinetry when you can have two? The island cabinetry is rustic alder with a pecan stain, ebony stain and satin finish. Combining white and wood? Classic.
These
The perimeter countertops are a solid-color man-made quartz, which are durable and easy to maintain, while the island is topped with a beautiful, natural quartzite.
6 | MAKE A STATEMENT
This vent hood may look custom, but it’s actually one of Showplace Cabinetry’s standard hoods. A high-end range deserves a dramatic hood, and this one fits the bill.
PREVIOUS PAGE: The owners of this Parker kitchen didn’t veer from the original layout, but the perimeter cabinetry was replaced with Showplace rustic alder, and the massive, 12-foot island was painted moss-green with vintage brushing. To open the space for multiple cooks, the range was replaced with a cooktop, while the oven and microwave were moved to the opposite end of the run.

SOFT TOUCH
In a room made of hard surfaces and straight edges, choosing a backsplash tile with subtle color and curvy lines adds some much-needed visual softness.
Why should you hire a kitchen designer?
A kitchen designer can create a detailed plan that works within a client’s budget. We help make thoughtful decisions and have everything in place to avoid costly mistakes or changes. And we keep everything on track and on time.
PRETTY PENDANTS
Good, functional lighting is everything in a busy kitchen, but big kitchen islands topped with pretty pendants make the space warm and inviting.
We see things from a different perspective. Our experience and training enable us to see details or imagine possibilities beyond what many contractors and/or clients can envision. We know how to balance different textures, colors, lines and overall scale.
We are here to help educate our clients with options they may not know exist, offer advice on how to improve the overall function of their kitchen, and coordinate all aspects of the project. Our job is to guide them in the right direction, one decision at a time.
Our clients have full access to our expertise and our commitment to designing a kitchen that functions properly and has the look and feel the client envisioned. Each of our designers listen and incorporate the client’s ideas with our knowledge to create something we know the client will love.
CHEF’S DREAM
For serious cooks and avid entertainers, quality, high-end appliances are a must. And stainless steel will never go out of style.

LEARN ABOUT HIS FAMILY TREE
Family heritage websites can offer insight into dad’s past and be an interesting way to study the history of your family. Present Dad with a report on his ancestors or dig in together!
PLAN A STAYCATION
You don’t need to go very far to have a great time with Dad! Explore a new neck of your own woods with a family staycation. You can go out on the town, stay at a fancy hotel and maybe even enjoy some room service!
GO BIRD WATCHING
Lay out a blanket in your backyard and grab your binoculars for a peaceful, naturefilled day. Make a list of how many different kinds of birds you see and guess if you can identify them.
GO BOWLING
Bowling is a timeless classic Dad is sure to enjoy. Bonus if the bowling alley has an arcade, chicken wings and Dad’s favorite beverage of choice.

HAVE A WINE AND PAINT NIGHT
Sign up for an artistic experience at a local wine and paint shop so Dad can let his creative side show and you can have a custom piece of art for years to come.
TACKLE A TASK TOGETHER
Is Dad a hands-on guy? Why not spend the day constructing a tree house or painting a birdhouse? Or better yet, help him organize the garage or start a garage redesign.
DO A FITNESS CLASS TOGETHER
Consider signing him up for a fitness class together. Whether he likes cycling, boxing or HIIT, encourage him to be adventurous and try something new.

FIRE UP THE BACKYARD GRILL
There’s no greater way to get to a Dad’s heart than the word “barbecue”. Grab extravagant meats like a rack of ribs or wagyu beef burgers and go to town.
CONSTRUCT SOMETHING OUT OF LEGOS
Harken back to Dad’s childhood with a specialty kit of legos. Embark on a family project of helping Dad build models of favorite movie props like the Death Star or Hogwarts castle.
HAVE AN OUTDOOR FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

COOK SOMETHING ADVENTUROUS
If some of Dad’s role models include Gordon Ramsay and Bobby Flay, consider thinking outside the box and create a meal with something you wouldn’t usually go for like bison burgers or grilled octopus tentacles. Tackling a complex recipe may seem challenging but the memories and the meal will be worth it.
If one of Dad’s favorite pastimes is binging the Star Wars saga over and over again, how about setting up a family movie night from your own backyard? Hang a white bed sheet and project a movie onto the screen via a projector. FAMILY CARE | LIFE + CULTURE 44
