Livin' Large in June

“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy…”

After a dry spring filled with about 10 different types of winter chills, summer is finally on its way as the calendar turns to June. It’s time to gear up for the hazy, lazy days and nights that will have us joining family and friends as we return to our favorite outdoor activities.

Along with celebrating the official 1st day of summer on June 26, this is also the month in which we celebrate Father’s Day. It is a very special time in which we take the time to show our dads how much we love and appreciate them. In recognition of this special holiday, we dedicate the June issue of Hendersonville Lifestyle to honoring all the special men in our lives who have given so much to make us who we are.

This month, we are featuring several great stories about people and places that are important to gentlemen all across Hendersonville and Sumner County.

First up, we introduce you to three outstanding men who give of themselves each and every day to help our community continue to grow and prosper.

Next, we chat with a professional wrestling Hall of Famer who is proud to call the City by the Lake home.

Continuing, we visit one of Hendersonville’s most unique new businesses that offers luxury accommodations for automobiles, recreational vehicles and your other favorite power toys.

Finally, we visit with a world-renowned entertainer who balances beautiful landscape photography with his music.

As always, our City Scene and Business Monthly sections will keep you in tune with many of the exciting events and activities that are happening in the Ville.

Now that we have got your attention, it’s time to get started!

Take it easy, Hendersonville. We’ll see you around town soon.

Men Making A Difference in Hendersonville

Three Leaders Helping Sumner County Continue To Grow And Prosper

JOHN ISBELL

SUMNER COUNTY MAYOR

Community

“My activities include Rotary, the Hendersonville Citizens Police Academy, Tunnels to Towers, Leadership Middle Tennessee, Sons of the American Revolution and Chambers of Commerce across Sumner County.”

Motivation

“I am motivated by the opportunity to build relationships. At its core, county leadership is fundamentally about cultivating strong relationships at the local, state and federal levels.”

Mentor

“Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to have many influential mentors. My father instilled in me a strong work ethic, and to always be honest and courageous. Other mentors include spiritual leaders Pastors Maury Davis and Dan Smith, and my trusted friend Dr. David Black, who has strongly influenced my political career and personal life.”

Why Hendersonville and Sumner County?

“My family moved to Hendersonville in 1976, and I have had the privilege of watching it grow into a vibrant, economically thriving community.”

Greatest Life Lesson

“The greatest thing I’ve learned is to be careful of the bridges you burn. You may need to cross them again in the future.”

Advice to Others

“Lead with integrity, serve with humility and invest in relationships. Anchor your life in faith and family and pursue your goals with diligence.”

Community

“I am on the Board of Directors for TRICOR, which is dedicated to rehabilitation and second chances for incarcerated individuals. I am also active in the Tennessee, Nashville, and Sumner County Bar Associations, serving on the Executive Committee and as a past Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association’s International Law & Practice Section. In addition, I serve as volunteer General Counsel to the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Shalom Zone.”

Motivation

“I am motivated by helping businesses navigate complex legal challenges and helping my clients be more successful.”

Mentor

“My mentors were Charles Bone and William Wright, not only in the practice of law, but in the importance of getting to know your clients so you can better advise them on what’s best for them. I learned that nudging clients toward a reasonable resolution is often better than encouraging litigation.”

GEORGE J. PHILLIPS

ATTORNEY AT PHILLIPS | RALSTON

"After

college, I returned to Hendersonville to raise my family, ensuring my children would benefit from the same exceptional educational and community opportunities I had enjoyed. I am deeply grateful that my family was welcomed into the Sumner County community and given the opportunity to prosper.”

John Isbell “

Why Hendersonville and Sumner County?

“Hendersonville and Sumner County offer a rare combination of opportunity and quality of life, a great place to grow a business and to raise a family. Having been involved in the formation of numerous companies, I can attest that Sumner County is fertile ground for small acorns to grow into mighty oaks.”

Greatest Life Lesson

“The greatest thing I’ve learned came from my father, the son of a sharecropper and a World War II veteran. He instilled in me a strong work ethic and a commitment to family, community and country.”

Advice to Others

“Love your family, work hard, get involved in your community and ensure everyone is treated with fairness, respect and kindness.”

CHRIS TAYLOR

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FORWARD SUMNER

Community

“I am a Board member of United Way Sumner County, the Drug Recovery Court and Chair of the Sumner County Solid Waste Board. I also teach kids in grades K-5 at Northfield Church. I am lucky in that my current work role allows me the opportunity to help with our schools, municipalities and county in a multitude of ways out of the limelight.”

Motivation

“I am motivated by serving – at home, at church and at work. I love helping whenever and wherever I can.”

Mentor

“I have been blessed to have several people breathe into my life. These days, I receive great wisdom and advice from my Friday Devotional group of Charles Bone, Charles Kimbrough, Don Dixon, Lee Willingham and Dr. Chaffin Summers. I was also mentored by the late Murray Brown.”

Why Hendersonville and Sumner County?

“I grew up in the military, and we bounced around a lot. It has been incredible to see my children grow up in the same schools and have lifelong friends. Sumner County is an amazing place to raise a family; the schools are second to none and it’s a safe community with good people.”

Greatest Life Lesson

“At one point in my life I used to be very selfish with my time. I wanted to spend it on what I thought was important – coaching my kids, pursuing my interests, etc. I felt like I had ‘done my part’ and was still giving back in my way. God humbled me and taught me that its His time and I wasn’t finished. My wife and pastor were instrumental in understanding what God was teaching me and what I needed to do. From that point on I ran for the County Commission, accepted roles on several boards, got back into Church leadership, accepted greater roles with the Metro Nashville Police Department and earned my MBA.”

Advice to Others

“Don’t be afraid of taking chances and trying new things, as the enemy uses fear/anxiety to stop us from achieving God’s plans and blessings He has for us.”

King Of The Ring

JEFF JARRETT STANDS

TALL IN THE WORLD OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY

Along with its well-known base of musical entertainers, Hendersonville is also home to one of the most famous professional wrestlers of all time – Jeff “Double J” Jarrett. Recently, Hendersonville Lifestyle sat down with Jeff to find out more about him and his many accomplishments in the wrestling world.

WHY PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING?

“I was bitten by the wrestling bug at an early age. I especially love the sports entertainment side of professional wrestling. It is a very unique form of entertainment that draws from Hollywood, Broadway and the sporting world, and blends it all together to create a great fan experience.”

Wrestling Superstar Jeff Jarrett holds his signature guitar during a match at the 2025 Hendersonville Pig Fest.
"I HAVE NEVER REALLY FELT LIKE I HAVE HAD A FULL-TIME JOB. THAT'S  BECAUSE OF MY LOVE AND MY PASSION FOR WRESTLING.”

WHEN DID YOU START WRESTLING PROFESSIONALLY?

“I have been wrestling a long time, so as of last month, I celebrated my 40th year as a professional.”

HOW MANY MATCHES HAVE YOU HAD SO FAR IN YOUR CAREER?

“Over my 40 year career, I have competed in over 5,000 matches.”

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST MATCH, AND WHO WAS YOUR OPPONENT?

“My first match was at the Mid-South Colosseum in Memphis, and my opponent was Tony Falk. It ended in a 10 minute draw.”

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL VENUE THAT YOU HAVE EVER HAD A MATCH?

“I have wrestled at all kinds of places ranging from high school gyms to New York’s Madison Square Garden to the Royal Albert Hall in London. However, I think that my most unusual venue was in Jerusalem.”

HOW DO YOU TRAIN TO KEEP YOURSELF IN WRESTLING SHAPE?

“I train regularly at UFC Gym in Hendersonville in order to stay in wrestling shape. Fitness is a passion for me – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.”

WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE WRESTLER GROWING UP?

“Without a doubt, it was the fabulous Jackie Fargo – often imitated but never duplicated. I loved his strut so much that I patterned my own strut after it.”

WHO WAS YOUR MENTOR?

“I have had three mentors who influenced me, Jerry ‘the King’ Lawler (ring techniques), my father (wrestling mindset and psychology) and my grandmother (business side of wrestling).

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WRESTLING MEMORY?

“My favorite wrestling memory was when I won my first heavyweight title in the United Center in Chicago – the house that

Michael Jordan built. I grew up as a Bulls fan, so to win my first major title there made it very special for me.”

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR SIGNATURE GUITAR MOVE?

“When I made the move to the WWF in 1993, I took on the Double J persona. Since I am from the south, I thought that Double J should have a guitar. It fits with country music, and it adds depth to the character.”

WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO BE THE TITAN’S 12TH MAN BACK IN 2018?

“Being selected to be the 12th man was a very unique experience. I have always been a huge Titans fan, and I had gotten to know a lot of the guys on the team, including Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones, Zack Pillar, Jevon Kearse and the late Frank Wychek. On a side note, I recently became partners with former Titans coach Jeff Fisher for the new Nashville Kats arena football team.”

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WRESTLING IN FRONT OF THE HOMETOWN HENDERSONVILLE CROWD DURING LAST FALL’S PIG FEST?

“Wrestling at Pig Fest was amazing. Despite having wrestled all over the world, I had never competed in my hometown. I had no idea that it would be such an emotional night, especially with my family being there. It turned out to be one of my favorite nights in my entire career.”

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short

Creative Director: Jen Birn

Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill

Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX

MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.

Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When in all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:

MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?

A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”

Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”

This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Golden Memories

Legendary Oak Ridge Boy Publishes A Photo Book Chronicling His Travels

William Lee Golden began his musical career nearly 70 years ago in rural South Alabama by singing on his grandfather’s weekly radio show.  From those beginnings, Golden developed a lifelong love of music and harmony, especially the type performed by country, gospel and pop quartettes.  Since joining the Oak Ridge Boys in 1965, he and his bandmates have sold over thirty million records.

While most people are aware of his musical talents, few are aware of his other artistic accomplishments. In addition to his musical creativity, he is also an accomplished photographer.

Over the years, William Lee has refined his photographic skills, and he has received widespread recognition for many of his images.  These days, he primarily images landscape and scenic views from around the country that he captures while on tour with the Oak Ridge Boys.

Recently, he published a book of some of his favorite photos titled “Golden Memories – Landscape Photographs

Captured on Tour with The Oak Ridge Boys”. To introduce his book, he was feted in an artist lounge and book signing celebration held at Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center on Saturday, Apr. 11.

During the event, William Lee participated in a question and answer session moderated by Monthaven Executive Director Cheryl Stritchik. For over an hour, he described his photographic journey and techniques, and he told the stories behind some of his favorite works, including a sunrise silhouetting two people fishing out on Old Hickory Lake.

“When I first saw the sun beginning to rise, my attention was immediately drawn to the two people fishing in the early morning, a man and young boy,” said William Lee. “It made me think of a grandfather teaching his grandson how to fish.”

At the conclusion of the question and answer session, William Lee mingled with his fans, signing copies of his book and taking selfies with them.

“
I want everyone to see what I am seeing when I am on tour."

RALLYPOINT MOTOR CONDOS

Luxury Accommodations for Everything That Drives You

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICK

On Hendersonville’s East Main Street lies one of the city’s newest and most unique businesses, RallyPoint Motor Condos, LLC. Founded and owned by J.R. and Carol Ernst, RallyPoint draws the attention of thousands of motorists every day who are intrigued by its beautiful, expansive structure.

Within the walls of the four building complex, there are 31 large condos that owners are able to store all types of valuable vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, boats and recreational vehicles. In addition to the condos, RallyPoint also features a spacious and well-appointed owner’s clubhouse known as the HUB. All of the property is protected by a gating system that has a sophisticated access control system that allows condo owners to enjoy 24 x 7 access, as well as to provide guest passes to family, friends and vendors.

“The idea for RallyPoint started with a need to store our RV, and to free up some garage space,” said J.R. “When we started to explore the concept, we soon realized that we would be developing the first motor condo complex in Tennessee, but not the first motor condo complex in the country.  This discovery led Carol and I to extensive travels visiting other motor condos, both successful and not successful.  During these visits, we determined what we liked, and what we felt we could improve on.  We took that information, combined it with a lot of sketching, some land planning, and the assistance of some professionals to develop what RallyPoint’s look and feel is today.”

Today, the complex offers seven different sizes of motor condos.  Individual units range from 25’ x 40’ to 50’ x 55’. However, the majority of them are either 25’ x 50’ or 25’ x 55’.  All ceilings

range from 22’ – 24’ high in order to allow mezzanines and car lifts. Exterior drive aisles range in width from 50’ to 55’ to permit safe maneuvering of large trailers and Class A recreational vehicles.

The original condo prices started at $317,000 for the small 25’ x 40’ unit and went all the way up to $879,000 for the largest 50’ x 55’ unit. Currently, there are 3 condos available starting at $409,500.

RallyPoint’s flexible design allows owners to customize their individual condos to their hearts’ desires. In each of the 28 occupied units, the condo owners have

decorated their units to reflect their personalities and desires.

In order to assist owners with customizing their units, RallyPoint selected McPherson Shaw, Inc. as the preferred contractor to make the build out process easier. However, owners are not limited to a particular contractor, with one exception. All of the steel mezzanines in the units are manufactured and installed by a local Hendersonville company, Steel Works Metal Fabrication & Design.

“Some people refer to the RallyPoint condos as ‘man caves’,” said Carol. “Jokingly, I’m offended by this term as women also like cars and power toys.  We have a very involved community, and it’s not just guys.”

Early in the planning stages, Carol and J.R. went through an extensive process to select the perfect name for the complex.

“At first, we had our own ideas about what our brand name should be. Since our day jobs are in the hotel business with Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites, we understand the value of brand recognition,” said Carol. “As a result, we met with Proof Branding in East Nashville during 2020 to create a Brand that spoke to not only the high-end storage aspect but also focused on the community and social nature of motor condos.   Ultimately, they helped create our name, logos and the RallyPoint registered trademark.”

In the future, Carol and J.R. want to continue to expand their endeavor beyond Hendersonville.  They currently have a land planner reviewing sites in Williamson County for suitability.  Any potential new sites are likely to be larger than the Hendersonville complex, offering 60 to 80 motor condos. They also have other locations in mind, but their ultimate goal is to sell franchises to grow the RallyPoint brand.

Collectors of classic vehicles often have to make sacrifices when adding to their inventory due to a shortage of storage space. This situation often results in owners having to sell some of their most treasured items in order to bring in something new.

Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem – RallyPoint Motor Condos, LLC. Since 2025, Hendersonville-based RallyPoint has been offering collectors the perfect solution for storing all kinds of power toys, including muscle cars, motorcycles, boats and recreation vehicles.
