Summer, Summer, Summertime… Cue the BBQ!

There’s nothing like the summer—the smell of hot dogs and burgers on the grill after a long day of swimming, half melted ice cream cones, too much fun in the sun, games, and a general sense of adventure with kids out of school and less restrictions in the day-to-day schedule.

It’s toasty out there, but as is always the case in our little corner of the world, there is plenty to do here in Henderson!

In our Gents issue, we tap into the age-old question: Is whisky on ice nice or better on its own? We sit down with Vegas Knight Hawks Coach Mike Davis giving us a behind the scenes look at their indoor football league’s season at Lee’s Family Forum, and leading with passion, purpose, and commitment. We hear from Dr. Kevin Tsui, owner of Henderson Pulmonology, on the importance of men prioritizing their health to remain active and present for their loved ones. We share Custom Closets’ story about brotherhood in building their family business, and, as always, feature updates and fun events happening this month.

Cheers to the dads with the cheesy jokes, the grill masters, the sports coaches, the intellectuals, the gamers, the handymen, and the ones who are the backbones for us every day. We wish you a wonderful Father’s Day and appreciate all that you do!

If you have something you’d like to see in the magazine, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out!

Coach Mike Davis

Leading the Vegas Knight Hawks with passion, purpose, and a commitment to community

Coach Mike Davis has taken the reins of the Vegas Knight Hawks, bringing with him a deep passion for football and a strong dedication to player development—both on and off the field. His leadership captures the spirit of indoor football, blending fierce competition with a genuine commitment to growth. With Davis at the helm and the electric energy of Lee’s Family Forum behind them, the Knight Hawks have become one of the most exciting teams to watch. CONTINUED

Davis noted that when the team takes to the field, “the atmosphere becomes electric” in Lee’s Family Forum. The energy is contagious, and his excitement is matched by the fanbase, which has grown steadily as the team becomes more embedded in the community.

Since joining the organization in 2021, Coach Davis has found a true home in the indoor game. “The most exciting part for me is just watching these young men grow from day to day,” he shared. His coaching goes beyond the playbook—he’s dedicated to shaping not just better athletes, but better people.

A key factor in his success as a coach is his ability to adapt his coaching style to the modern athlete. He acknowledges that coaching today is different from the past, particularly in how coaches engage with players. “Twenty years ago, you could coach young men hard, and they just accepted it,” Davis explained. “Now, you have to be more relatable. You have to understand what makes them tick, it’s not about being a hard-nosed coach.”

As a coach, he faces the challenge of balancing his demanding role with his personal life. “When you come to work, it’s time to work,” he said, emphasizing the importance of focus and dedication. However, he also values the time he spends with his family, finding it essential to unwind and recharge after the intensity of a game or practice. This balance is crucial for long-term success and personal well-being.

Davis’s connection to Las Vegas extends beyond football. The city’s unique energy and dynamic culture play an important role in the team’s identity. “Las Vegas is a huge recruiter,” he said. “Everybody wants to be in Vegas, and the community plays a big role in what we do.” The Knight Hawks are committed to giving back to the community, organizing youth camps and other outreach initiatives to make a positive impact on the lives of young people in the area.

As for his legacy, he’s focused not just on wins but on building lasting relationships. “If we can make our players better when they leave Vegas after six months, then we’ve done our job,” he said. His vision for the Knight Hawks extends beyond championships; he wants to leave a lasting impact on his players’ lives, helping them grow as individuals. The bonds formed on the team are so strong that he stays in touch with players he coached years ago, a testament to the family-like atmosphere he fosters.

Coach Mike Davis is a standout figure in the world of indoor football. Whether on the field or off, his influence is shaping the future of the Knight Hawks, and he’s just getting started.

“Everybody wants to be in Vegas, and the community plays a big role in what we do.”

BREATHE EASY

Dr. Kevin Tsui has become a trusted advocate for men’s respiratory health in the valley. As an internist, pulmonologist, and critical care specialist with over a decade of experience, Dr. Tsui is on a mission to help men breathe easier and live healthier lives. Through his practice, Henderson Pulmonology ( hendersonpulmonology.com), he provides personalized care for conditions ranging from COPD to sleep apnea, all while emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention.

“Many men tend to overlook early symptoms like a chronic cough or mild breathlessness,” Dr. Tsui explained. “These are often dismissed as signs of aging or attributed to lifestyle factors, but they can be early indicators of serious conditions such as COPD or even lung cancer.” He noted that ignoring these symptoms can lead to worsening health outcomes, including reduced energy levels and limited physical activity, which can significantly impact quality of life.

Dr. Tsui highlighted the particular risks posed by undiagnosed conditions like obstructive sleep apnea. “Sleep apnea is more common in men and often goes untreated,” he said. “It not only disrupts sleep but also increases the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, and cardiovascular problems like arrhythmias.” He stressed that addressing these issues early can help prevent long-term complications.

For men with high-risk lifestyles—such as smokers or those exposed to airborne irritants at work—Dr. Tsui recommends proactive measures to maintain lung health. “Annual lung cancer screenings with low-dose CT scans are crucial for men aged 50–80 with a significant smoking history,” he advised. “Pulmonary function tests can also detect diseases like COPD or asthma before symptoms escalate.”

Additionally, he encourages sleep studies for those experiencing snoring or daytime fatigue and emphasizes the importance of vaccinations against influenza, pneumococcal disease, and RSV to reduce the risk of severe respiratory infections.

Dr. Tsui understands that many men prioritize work and family over their own health, often delaying medical visits until symptoms interfere with daily life. To counter this trend, Henderson Pulmonology strives to make care accessible and convenient. “We offer flexible scheduling, including sameweek appointments, so busy professionals don’t have to choose between their health and their responsibilities,” he said. The clinic also places a strong emphasis on patient education. “Helping men understand their condition and how proper management can

improve their energy, sleep, and longevity is central to our approach.”

One of Dr. Tsui’s key messages is that maintaining health is not a burden but an investment in one’s future. “I always remind my patients that taking care of their health is a gift—not just for themselves but for their loved ones who depend on them,” he shared.

“TAKING CARE OF YOUR RESPIRATORY HEALTH IS AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE. EARLY DETECTION AND PROPER MANAGEMENT CAN IMPROVE ENERGY, SLEEP, AND LONGEVITYHELPING MEN STAY ACTIVE AND PRESENT FOR THEIR LOVED ONES.”

Beyond clinical care, Dr. Tsui takes pride in creating a supportive environment where patients feel heard and valued. “Breathing is something most of us take for granted—until it becomes difficult,” he reflected. “Our goal at Henderson Pulmonology is to help patients stay ahead of serious lung problems with proactive, compassionate care.”

The clinic’s comprehensive services cater to patients across the valley. Whether managing chronic diseases like asthma and pulmonary hypertension or investigating new symptoms such as lung nodules, Dr. Tsui and his team are dedicated to improving respiratory health.

Recognizing the unique challenges men face when it comes to health, Dr. Tsui offers invaluable guidance: “By viewing health maintenance as an investment rather than an interruption, men can stay active and present in all aspects of their lives.” His dedication to educating patients and providing accessible care reflects his belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to improve their respiratory health and live a more fulfilling life.

A FAMILY BOND THAT BUILDS BEAUTIFUL SPACES AND LASTING TRUST

BROTHERS IN DESIGN

BY SHOT BY BEL

In a world where true gentlemen lead with integrity, strength, and a sense of purpose, the bond between brothers can be one of the most powerful forces—driving success, inspiring innovation, and shaping legacies. When those bonds are rooted in shared

solving problems and doing things the right way—rather than taking shortcuts—laid the foundation for what would become Custom Closet Systems. Recognizing a growing demand for durable, custom-built closets in Las Vegas, Alesandro saw an opportunity.

“OUR FAMILY DYNAMIC HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR GREATEST ASSETS.”

values and mutual respect, they create not just a business, but a family. That’s exactly what you find with Custom Closet Systems Inc., a company founded and led by three brothers whose dedication to craftsmanship and personalized service exemplifies a genuine gentleman’s spirit.

Alesandro Arguelles, the Founder and CEO, along with his brothers Emanuele Arguelles, Vice President, and Alfredo Arguelles, Senior Vice President, have crafted a reputation for transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary reflections of their clients’ personalities—through quality, care, and a deep understanding of what it means to serve with heart.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE BUSINESS

Alesandro’s journey into custom carpentry began at a young age. He started working in home carpentry early on and quickly realized how much he cared about quality work in every home he entered. His passion for

Reflecting on their shared journey, Alfredo explains, “Our brother Alesandro has always been committed to doing things the right way. His dedication to quality and craftsmanship inspired us all. When he decided to start this business, we knew it was more than just a venture—it was a chance to build something meaningful, rooted in integrity and excellence.” He adds, “It wasn’t an easy risk to take, but my brothers were there to take it with me.”

FAMILY DYNAMICS AS A GROWTH CATALYST

The Arguelles brothers’ dynamic is central to their success. “Our family dynamic has been one of our greatest assets,” Alfredo says. Each brother has a clearly defined role, but their collaboration and mutual support create a resilient and innovative environment. “What one of us may be missing, the other has,” he adds, emphasizing how their individual strengths complement each other. This trust and shared purpose have propelled their growth,

allowing them to overcome challenges more effectively and maintain high morale—an energy that permeates their work and client relationships.

STRENGTHS THAT DRIVE SUCCESS

Each brother brings a unique skill set to the table. Alesandro, a master carpenter, is the hands-on expert during manufacturing and installation. “His experience in craftsmanship ensures every project meets our high standards,” Alfredo notes with admiration. Emanuele, with a Master’s in architecture, creates precise digital designs using CAD software, laying the groundwork for flawless execution. Alfredo himself, also an architecture graduate with retail experience, excels at client communication and relationship building. “My role is to understand our clients’ needs and translate their vision into reality,” he explains.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES TOGETHER

One memorable challenge was integrating modern technology into their traditional craftsmanship. “In 2013, we purchased our first CNC machine,” Alfredo recalls. The transition from handcrafting to robotic manufacturing was daunting, but their combined experience and willingness to learn helped them succeed. “We believed that blending traditional skills with cutting-edge technology would elevate our quality,” he notes, and today, their innovative approach sets them apart.

“MY ROLE IS TO UNDERSTAND OUR CLIENTS’ NEEDS.”

PERSONALIZED SERVICE AT EVERY STEP

What truly distinguishes Custom Closet Systems is their commitment to personalized care. “We guide our clients through every step before we even step into their homes,” Alfredo says. They utilize advanced design programs to help clients visualize their spaces, ensuring clarity and confidence from the start. Clear communication and meticulous attention to detail ensure a smooth, stress-free experience, highlighting their commitment to customer satisfaction.

A LEGACY OF FAMILY AND COMMUNITY

Founded in 2005 by the Arguelles brothers after relocating from Detroit, the company embodies their values of hard work, integrity, and family. When Alfredo joined in 2008, he brought fresh energy and a new outlook that helped drive the company’s growth. Today, they are deeply rooted in Southern Nevada, actively contributing to the community and raising a large family with nine children among them. Their journey is a testament to a legacy built on trust, quality, and heartfelt dedication to their craft.

Brothers in design, brothers in life— Alesandro, Emanuele, and Alfredo Arguelles continue to exemplify what it means to serve with honor, skill, and familial pride.

Is Whisky On Ice Nice?

The best way to enjoy your whisky: on the rocks, rock, neat, or with water

In speaking to whisky lovers (most happen to be men, but do accept me in their brethren as a fellow enthusiast, writer, and educator), I’ve learned a great many opinions on how to drink whisky. Specifically, preferences on adding water and ice vary greatly.

A brand ambassador that I had the privilege of listening to recently said the obvious: both dilution and temperature change when you add ice, so if you are going to add something, a little water is best. I personally prefer to use a water

dropper, so I can add one drop at a time until I get to the desired taste. Here are the differences:

Rocks: Provides the highest rate of dilution as a lot of ice melts quickly. If you are drinking a barrel proof whisky, it kind of defeats the purpose as the distiller didn’t add water as they do in every other type of finished whisky.

On the Rock: The single rock, cube, or sphere is the slowest to melt and thought to be the most aesthetic. It’s nice if you want to stretch out your tasting. I often order on the rock if I want my drink to last longer.

Neat: This is the way single malt Scotch is served at a tasting event, in a branded Glencairn or Neat glass so that proper nosing for aromas can be achieved - and a dram of Scotch, smaller than an ounce, fits in them perfectly.

Water: As I mentioned above, quoting the brand ambassador, a little water is better for a

fine whisky over any kind of ice. Often, if ordered with water, the water is served in a separate vessel on the side so you can add in as much as you want.

Quoting another expert on the subject, Richard Paterson of The Dalmore famously and enthusiastically demonstrates in his Scotch classes how to drink single malt Scotch whisky: Paterson fills a lowball glass to the rim with ice, adds Scotch and then ceremoniously throws it over his shoulder onto the carpet of the classroom – because that much ice makes the drink worthless. One more quote, never “add green tea or milk  to whisky. You can add a little water, but not a lot of ice.”

Ultimately, the reason we add ice can be for aesthetics, to stretch out the time spent on one glass, for cooling, and for dilution. However, the number one reason enthusiasts add water is … drumroll please … because adding a little water actually opens up a whisky to show more aromas and flavors.
